Networking :: PC Shows Twice In Homegroup?

Jul 30, 2015

I just rejoined my dad's homegroup, but my computer appears twice... one with my MS account profile picture and name and one without either... but they both show the same folders, etc.

Is it possible that the homegroup is picking up the local account I had prior to logging in with my MS account?

Now my MS account one vanished and now it's just "Chris."

Networking :: Can't Get Homegroup Password

Jan 3, 2016

I had to do a complete reinstall of Windows 10. However, the new install still recognizes the old homegroup and I didn't write down the password. Now I can't change the password. When I open up the homegroup window, I can join, change sharing settings, but I can't change the password. I have administrator rights for the pc.

Networking :: Cannot Connect Onto Homegroup

Jan 2, 2016

I have set up a Homegroup on two laptops which use Windows 10 and both connect to the Homegroup. However, neither will display any computers on the Homegroup.I have tried all sorts of things but all I seem to get from the Homegroup trouble shooter is that there are network problems. I have tried changing the advanced sharing options on both laptops to:

1. Turn on network discovery and ticking automatic setup ....
2. Turn on file and printer sharing
3. Allow windows to manage ....

Then clicking save changes. When I go back into the screen the radio button that I selected for turn on network discovery has been deselected and the turn off button selected. Nothing seems to make any difference!

Networking :: Getting Homegroup To Work?

Feb 10, 2016

My desktop has a MS account and my portable is a local account. I have set my desktop with a Homegroup PW and have chosen what I would like to share with my portable (following the forum's instructional video). However, I do not know how to proceed from here in order to get the two computers to communicate. Do I have to go to my portable and enter the PW, and if so, how is this done? If not, what do I have to do? Also, I would imagine that once things are set up right, in order to communicate, both computers would have to be on?

Networking :: Create A Homegroup

Aug 16, 2015

I upgraded (free) two computers to Win10 primarily so I could view the hard drives from either computer. When one was Win7 and the other was win8.1 I tried to set up a homegroup for different operating systems with no luck.

When I go to Control Panel/Homegroup (win10) there is no option to create a homegroup. The only options are: Change advanced share settings... ; Start the HomeGroup troubleshooter; and Join now.

None of these leads to creating a HomeGroup. How to create a HomeGroup?

Networking :: How To Delete Old Windows 7 Homegroup

Jan 22, 2016

I had a Homegroup defined on Windows 7 Professional before upgrading to Windows 10 Professional. The annoying thing is right now I don't have an option to create a new homegroup, I only have an option to join the homegroup that was created on this same machine in Windows 7. The problem is I don't know the password and I'm not giving the option of changing the password or removing the Homegroup.

Networking :: Homegroup Stopped Working - PC Offline

Oct 2, 2015

I'm not sure if it's related to the last update or not, but suddenly my homegroup started saying my other PC was offline. So I went and left it and recreated it, and sometimes it'll connect for maybe 5 minutes then disappear again. Also, it's saying almost everytime I try to join that Windows No Longer Detects a Homegroup on this network. Very strange since it's showing it. I can get to the other computer via the Network icon so it's not a disaster, but this is a frustrating issue.

Networking :: Can't Find Show Password For Homegroup

Feb 10, 2016

having trouble recovering my password for a Homegroup, Windows 10. I know, know - I don't know why I don't have it written down along with my other bazillion passwords..I'm on the computer I used to set up the Homegroup, which I vaguely recall setting up a year or two ago when we first got this desktop. I'd like for other computers to access files on this desktop, I assume via the Homegroup. but I can't recall the password to connect to this desktop via Homegroup.

I've read that if I'm logged into the account on the computer used to create the homegroup, I should be able to go through control panel/ Home group/show or print password - but I don't see that option.

When I go to CP/Homegroup... it says "bsn on NISNESTPC has created a Homegroup on the network" - and only gives me two buttons to "join now" or "close". If I attempt to "join now" - I get as far as needing to enter the password, of which I can't remember. There are also 2 links for "change advanced sharing settings..." and "start the homegroup troubleshooter". how can I recover my forgotten HomeGroup password in Windows 10??

Or is there? do you know a way to display only the machines live on the LAN.?

Networking :: Homegroup Settings - Where Are Details Stored

Mar 5, 2016

I have a network of small computers for different purposes some Win 7 some Win 10. In upgrading my older Win 7 machines I made a few mistakes and have wiped a number of them. These older machines were all connecting to a homegroup for interchange of files.

Now they are on Win 10 the homegroup settings are rubbish. To remove them from the current list f homegroups computers requires you to log them on and leave the homegroup. This is obviously not possible. There was in the initial release of Win 10 a method, by right clicking a machine, to be offered a drop down which included the option to remove the computer from the homegroup. Unfortunately this never worked.

What I am looking for is the location of the storage where these older computers are recorded so I can try to remove them manually. Is it in the Registry?

Networking :: Homegroup - Accessing Shares Asks For Credentials?

Jan 26, 2016

Several PCs in my store.. some running W7 starter, some W10 Home pro.

A few days ago suddenly I could no longer access a folder on another W10 computer, where we tend to store a lot of important documents. The computer where the other folder is, runs also W10.

Shares are usually done vie HomeGroup - share with home group users.Other computers on the network have no problem accessing it. Furthermore, I can access it from another local account on my computer, but not from my main account (which is a MS account)..It asks for credentials, although I am a homegroup user.. nevertheless I enter the other computer's only username and password (admin ones) and it still does not let me in. Try my own MS user and pass - also "wrong".

Tried leaving and joining the Homegroup.

Tried restarting network related services and setting them on Automatic.

Tried homegroup troubleshooter - says probable problem is with network, so should run Network troubleshooter.

I do so and it shows error:This network troubleshooter shows error: resource (peer to peer grouping) is online, but not responding to connection attempts.

Following the latter and some google searches, I tried adding DisabledComponents" DWORD with "0"value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesTCPIP6Parameters
But still NO-GO.

Networking :: Can't See Shared Machine / Seeker In Workgroup But Shows In Domain

Jan 21, 2016

We have a peer to peer network, with one Win 10 machine (acting as server - which we call server) which shares several hard drives for everyone in the office to access. It has network discovery on, file and printer sharing on, turn off password protected sharing off. It has all the drives named and shared properly so everyone has full access. All the other Win 7, and Win 8 machines have complete access as designed.

Another Win 10 machine has complete access as designed. All machines are part of the same workgroup Engineer. My machine is a Lenovo laptop which was upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10. When I try to access the Win 10 machine (which is acting as server), I get the Enter Network credentials pop-up asking for Username and Password which we do not use nor have ever set up on the Win 10 machine or any other. I know that there are several posts that have the Enter Network credentials popping up, but the difference is that their screenshot showed them as part of a workgroup.

See the following:

When I get the same pop-up on my Lenovo Laptop It looks like the following ....

My System Properties information ....

Notice that the example above which is part of the workgroup has no reference to a domain. My pop-up on the Laptop shows reference to a domain, and whats interesting is that the domain is the computer name of the laptop itself. There are no domains set up on any machine of our peer to peer network.

Networking :: WiFi Stop Working / Shows Only One Network And It Doesn't Connect

Feb 2, 2016

Product Name: Hp Omen 15
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Wifi card: Intel Wireless-N 7260

since some days my wifi has stopped working. If I click on Wifi icon it shows only ONE (max two) NETWORK:And I live in a building with 20+ networks, as you can see from WiFi Analyzer (I'm the red one on the right). If I deactive/reactive Wifi with fn+f12, it goes to Airplane mode and to Wifi mode again and it eventually shows all the networks/My Wifi is on the top. If it's saved, Windows connects to it and then it drops the connection; if it's not saved and I try to connect, it says "You're not able to connect to this network".The fun fact is that after some seconds every network disappear and only one is showed (probably the neighbour one..I dunno).

I've already tried to HARD-RESET the notebook keeping the power button for 10/15sec with the laptop turned off.I've already tried to follow these instructions [URL] ... updating drivers (Intel 18.12.0.3, 18.12.1.2, 18.30.0.9 [Windows 10 default], 18.32.0 [Lastest drivers]) with no success. Everytime I install a new drivers, I uninstalled the previous one + Wireless software + reboot.

I tried to uncheked "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" on my Wifi hardware settings without success. The HP Network support says I didn't choose a Wifi (Really? The problem is I don't see my Wifi on the list!).This is not related to a new Windows 10 upgrade since I've installed it months ago and It's the first time I've this problem :/ It always worked

I tried different settings too/I changed channel, I set 802.11g on my router, APSD off on the router.I set "Magic packet off, ad hoc QoS off, U-APSD off, fat channel off, incremental throughput off, HT mode off" on the card setting without success. Nothing chaned. The Hardware test doesn't detect any failure. If I go close to the router, it shows my network with full power connection and it connects to it. Then I go back to my bedroom (probably 3/4 meters far), it KEEPS the connection for 30/40min and It drops the connection and I can't reconnect to it anymore. It always worked perfectly in my room in these months (I bought it in March 2015), so the distance is not a problem, I'm 6/7m far from the router. In this case It shows my Network (Connected) and the neighbour network...and the other 20+ networks???

The only way I have is USB tethering with my Nexus 5.I tried the Wifi connection on Elementary Freya (Ubuntu linux based OS) and it shows 20+ networks available on the list. It has not connection problem with my Wifi, but sometimes it stops working, the webpages stop loading and I must reboot Wifi to reconnect to it (usually after 30/40min using it). What's the problem? Is my Wifi card broken?

Networking :: File Explorer Network Tab Shows PC (This File Is Empty)

Dec 25, 2015

Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

Printing To Homegroup Printers

Aug 31, 2015

I have a home network with 4 Windows 10 and two Windows XP computers. The 4 Windows 10 computers are in a Homegroup and all are set up to share files and printers. I can access documents on all of the computers in the homegroup from every other computer in the homegroup. Two of the computers are logged in with local user accounts. The other two are logged in with Microsoft ID user accounts. One of the Microsoft account computers has an HP inkjet printer and a Brother laser printer attached via USB ports. I can print on those two printers from the host computer and from the two computers logged in with local accounts. I cannot print to those two printers from the other computer logged in with a Microsoft user account. When I try to do so I get a notification that says "access denied, unable to connect". If I change that one computer to a local account, it works just fine immediately, but when I change it back to a Microsoft ID user account the problem recurs. That would seem to preclude driver, homegroup and network problems, but I rule nothing out at this point.
