I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my desktop. Mostly it's just fine. However, I like my screen to stay on when I'm in the office area; cycling through my desktop pictures. Windows 10 is putting my monitor into sleep mode (I assume it's sleep mode because the monitor goes black and is still on and just a mouse wiggle brings it to awake) after 10 minutes (I believe that's how long) and I can't find any options to disable this feature. It's not in the standard setting options for screen saver/sleep. It's not on the monitor itself. I saw posts of many people who are unable to get Windows 10 to go to sleep and my problem is the opposite...how can this be? How to adjust the sleep/no sleep feature in Windows 10 for a desk top?
View 1 RepliesWhen my son tries to watch YouTube movies, it says "The Video is unavailable with Restricted Mode enabled. To view this video, you will need to disable Restricted Mode."
The only way I have found to disable restricted mode is to turn off safe search. I'd rather leave that on.
Any other way to disable restricted mode?
So yesterday my wi-fi started to turn off randomly for no reason, its not my internet connection becouse it works on other devices. Also i already tried ticking off power saving option on my network adapter, it worked for a while i thought, but after i restarted my laptop even though its still ticked off, its still turning off randomly.. (Also i noticed it turns off when i plug or unplug my mouse?)
Other problems i have:
1. Cant set opera as my default browser it asks me if i want to set it as default every time i open it and i always click yes..
2. Cant turn my touchpad off even though when i use fn+f9 it says its turned off..
I have a Windows 10 PC, with one of it's functions being that of a file server/NAS for my home network. I set it up with password protected sharing and a user account/password that everyone knows and uses to access it. I didn't really have any reason to use password protected sharing at the time, but it was the default so I left it.
Now I have a couple of network streaming devices that can't handle password protected sharing, so I was considering turning it off. Is there any reason not to turn off password protected sharing on a private network? Obviously I don't mind everyone on the network having access, but I was wondering if it had any other potential security benefits that I haven't thought of.
Windows 10 keeps starting in flight mode!
View 9 RepliesI have a desktop computer with built in WiFi and Bluetooth. I have installed the latest drivers from the MFG website (ASUS ROG Maximus VII Formula). The problem is that Airplane mode will not disable. When you click on it, it shows that you clicked on it, but immediately resets to "On" no matter what.
You will also notice that WiFi and Bluetooth are missing from the control panel.
I have made sure both devices are enabled at the BIOS level, however, due to Airplane mode being forced on, they do not even show up in the device manager (even under "show hidden").
I do not thing this is a BIOS/Driver issue; this appears to be a bug.
I just upgraded from windows 7 to 10 and when using Edge the airplane mode keeps going on. I put it to off in network and airplane mode then it goes to the internet but as soon as I do anything airplane mode comes back on keeping me from getting on internet. Cannot even get any updates
View 1 RepliesBeen using this laptop since October with no issues. Upgraded to Win10 yesterday and now, every couple of hours, the laptop goes into airline mode. Once I was able to restore wifi in the settings area, but most of the time when you turn off (move the slider) to airline off, the wifi slider does not come on.
The keyboard method does nothing to restore wifi. My wife has had the same issue since upgrading two weeks ago.
I am using hp 14-r029tx and windows 10 pro. The problem is, I have my wifi on. But the airplane mode status shows activated which means airplane mode is on. If my wifi is on then how come airplane mode is also on? Sometimes wifi takes too much time to load and sometimes have to reboot also. my wifi adapter is QUALCOMM Atheros qca 9565 with Bluetooth.
View 9 RepliesMost of the time we need to boot in safe mode with Networking to fix some of the issues. In some of the windows 10 computers wireless not working in safe mode with Networking
For an example my dell 5547. Has a wireless card, Intel Ac-3160 works fine in normal mode, But in safe mode it refuses to detect any Network, I am seeing similar behavior in some other models too in windows 10
Wired Networking (ethernet) is working.
My HP laptop keeps wanting to start in the airplane mode. I have reset it to the normal WIFI mode many times and it keeps going back to Airplane mode. I have contacted HP support twice. They took control of the computer and did there thing twice. Ptoblems is again occuring.
View 1 RepliesI have windows 10 pro and in my notifications and action center, airplane mode is in blue and wont let me turn it off, I'm using a desktop and not a laptop anyway to fix this or is this normal?
Also in the notification and action center, the wifi tab is greyed out.
I am on 10565 Pro version though this occured in last build too. Whenever I come back to my pc in the morning after putting it in hibernate mode for the night my airplane mode is always on. I notice it first by my bluetooth mouse being disconnected and then wifi connectivity.
The one fix I tried is unchecking the allow to shut off option to save power under device manager properties for my wifi adapter.
Using a Dell XPS 9343
title says it. every time I turn on the computer, my wifi is always there. when I come back from sleep mode, it is not. no wifi options are available in the network section.
it is not signal strength. I had a slight USB issue, but as I said, I always get wifi when I turn it on, so seems any USB issue would show up when I boot either way..
is the power surge to the USB ports the same whether you boot from off versus from sleep? is coming back from sleep different somehow than powering up from off?
since I have updated my dell laptop an inspiron 15 3000series to windows ten I cannot turn off airplane mode and thus cannot turn my wifi on. I have tried everything I found on the net from device manager to command prompt downloading new drivers and yet also to simple stuff like pressing the PrtScr key. I am desperate, I am an international student n the only way I can call my parents for free is via the net(i.e wifi) but it is not working.
View 2 RepliesMy windows 2003 server stopped working in normal mode, but working in "safe mode with networking" and giving reply from all peers, and reaching all remote locations. in Normal mode not even ping to peer and giving error "destination host unreachable". tried with new NIC. IP conflict coming when assigning used IP address, if giving a new IP address not even request going to peer showing the same error as "destination host un reachble".
View 1 RepliesFor some reason the Airplane mode setting can not be turned off in Network and Internet Settings, Network setting from taskbar, or Action center from taskbar. I am using my desktop and will never have it on an airplane. However, the computer does have a wifi adapter which I could use and it is able to be enabled.
Also, have other wifi devices on my home network, another PC and a tablet, a wireless printer and all are working fine. It must be a 'bug' on the desktop but someone should know that it is there. On the other PC, which is an all in one, the Airplane mode is not even in the settings anywhere.
I decided to take the plunge and install win 10 on one of my machines. Used windows update to install build 10074 from windows 7.
Everything seems to have worked fine except my network adapter (onboard Realtek thing) isn't being detected.
Figured this might be a driver thing so I installed various versions of the realtek drivers both win 7 and win 8 ones and these seem to install fine but then cannot detect the card. The installer gives an error that the card may be in "Deep Sleep mode".
Once installed the Device "REaltek PCIe GBE Family Controller" appears in device manager with no issues or conflicts, but nothing is in the Network Connections window when I go through Network and Sharing centre.
I have tried booting to the trouble shooting menu and selecting load unsigned drivers but this has not worked.
I rolled back to Win 7 and the card came back and all connectivity was restored. Re-installed win10 and back to the same issue.
This has gone from bad to worse. It started with an error message when I went to close down, to the effect that the Start Button wasn't working and would reset on restart. I restarted; it didn't reset. I could use programs but the Start button still wouldn't work. I tried to restart in Safe Mode, but the computer wouldn't go into Safe Mode -- I got the screens that let me select reset but the final step that would select Safe Mode with Networking just got skipped. I'm a little sketchy on what I did next (I got kind of ticked and had to step away from the computer for about a week to cool off, and I'm afraid I didn't write out a history while it was still fresh in my mind) but I tried a variety of things to force it to start in Safe Mode and the result is that it doesn't start at all now: the power light comes on, but the screen stays blank and there's no action on the drives. Should I use my laptop to create a USB Recovery Drive to start the desktop computer on?
View 9 RepliesI just (Dec. 19, 2015) completed the latest update to Windows 10, had trouble with my volume icon, fixed it, then found my wifi icon is stuck in airplane mode despite the laptop having full wifi functionality. Tried turning system icons on and off through the "task bar and start menu properties" dialog box, tried various combinations of "on" and "off" while restarting the entire system, nothing works. I've connected and reconnected wirelessly by both using a physical button (shaped like an antenna emitting parentheses-shaped waves) and by using the icon that's now stuck in airplane mode. I can access the internet, but I can't see the status in the task bar as I used to. All I see is the icon shaped like an airplane, even while I'm clearly not in airplane mode and when I should therefore be seeing the wifi icon.
View 3 RepliesSince my daughter (2 years old) switched on airplane mode last week, I'm no more able to switch it off and go back to wifi connection.
No more WiFi / airplane mode icons in wifi window on the taskbar, no more airplane mode option on network settings...
Everything disappeared, apart from the airplane mode icon in the right corner of the screen, which I can not switch to WiFi mode...
I will be keeping the wireless turned off most of the time on my desktop, as I use it for live pro audio. Is there a registry hack to put the switch in there, even if the computer is not a laptop???
View 9 RepliesWhen I sign out of my user profile on my 2 Acer laptops and then click shut down, the computer goes black indicating that it is shutting down. However, the power light blinks until it shuts down completely. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or what but when hibernation is disabled, it tells you its shutting down and the power light doesn't blink (instead it shuts down normally). This is not a UEFI BIOS, it is a Legacy BIOS therefore it doesn't have the option to enable or to disable fast startup. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 5250 and Acer Aspire 5749 laptops. My Acer desktop doesn't do this, but it has a UEFI BIOS.
View 9 RepliesI upgraded my Toshiba "Satellite" laptop two weeks ago. Now when I press the power button to turn it on, the white power light flashes but nothing else happens. The laptop does not switch on. Is this a Windows 10 bug or have I a hardware problem?
