Networking :: Can't Share Folder With Another Computer
Feb 7, 2016
I have two windows 10 pro computers. first computer has a folder on the root of the C drive that i want to access from the second computer- both on the same wifi network, same workgroup, set to private network in windows- no homegroups set up.
I can enable sharing of the folder, but i can't select the user account from the second computer that i want to have access to the folder- when i try to select the user account (from the second computer), i can only see the local computer accounts- how do i set access for a specific user account on the second computer?
I'm pretty sure i remember this being more easily done back on windows 7, but honestly it's been awhile since i've needed to set up folder shares.

i think this should be a pretty straight forward process, but i'm getting stumped!

I had Windows 7 on the main computer at home. The printer was attached to that computer, with sharing turned on. Other computers in the house, some upgraded to Windows 10 and some not, could all use the printer. Now i have upgraded that desktop to Windows 10, and no one else can print to the printer.

I have a new Windows 10 system (A) which has a printer attached. I'm trying to share the printer with another computer (B) also running windows 10, both computers can see each other on the network but when B tries to look at A it gets a message that it can't access A.The printer is shared and as a far as I can see file and printer sharing is enabled but the add printer routine can't find it.
I can see A and it's shares on a W7 computer (C) on the same network without problem and it has detected and can use the printer. All computers are in the same Workgroup and both W10 machines (A+B) are in the same Homegroup.B was able to use the printer when it was attached to D, unfortunately D is now dead and replaced by A.

PC is a brand new tower running Windows 10 & I love it but I cant seem to get my Mac laptop to connect to the Kodak c310 AIO printer when I hook it up to the new tower. It connects to my old Mac Pro tower easily over the same LAN.
The LAN is an ether-net using a Linksys 4 port router. The Mac identifies the tower as being on the network and seems to try to print to the Kodak but then just hangs at sending the data. As I said above, it prints fine over the same network to my old Mac tower.
I have followed all the steps here: [URL] ....
Enabled LPD protocol & printer sharing in Windows 10.

Drive C: on a new win10 laptop is marked Shared for Everyone, read+write+control (because it will hold a webserver and database server that must be manageable from other workstations in the workgroup).
Yet win10 refuses access to a map-network-drive request from File Explorer run as administrator on any win7 machine in the same workgroup.

I have two computers both now running Win 10. One is hard wired to my router, and the other is on wireless. I am not using Homegroups....just the old method of work groups, which used to work pretty well. (I also have some XP computers.) The computer on wireless can see the C drive on the hard wired computer, but not vice versa. I shows the C drive but when I click on it says it can't be accessed. I have set all the permissions for the C drive on that machine, giving full access to "everyone". I went to the Security tab and set the parameters to allow access for authenticated users. (When it runs through the files it frequently hangs with an error message, but continues when I hit return.)

Using Windows 10 I have tried several times, but I'm unable to recover my network or shared drives passwords. How can I delete the need for the password, or how can I recover or reset the password?

I have 2 new PC's set up and running, connected to a NAS via a Switch. Internet is available via a router.
I need to be able to access folders on and from both machines. I have shared C: on both, given permissions on both (everyone = Full control)
I can see the relevant machines in the network section of Windows Explorer (master & backoffice). Sometimes I can see C: on the other machine but I can not connect to it. If I Double click I get "path not found" error ( 80070035 I think )..... masterc
If I type in using the IPaddress it connects and works fine.... 192.168.1.69c
It seems that once I've used the IPaddress method, it can sometimes use the name method ( But this is hit and miss )

I need to share a window on my Windows 10 PC via VNC (to an Android device). UltraVNC says it can share a single window, but I can't get their VNC server to do this, only the entire Desktop.
VNC servers that can share a single window?

I've got a LAN in my home/office with 5 machines now running Win 10 and I've not been able to transfer files between them due to "permission problems". These were all running Win 7 and sharing files with no problems but now I'm blocked. I've made every "advanced" change I can think of to networking and sharing screens and to firewall screens. The machines can see each other in File Explorer but "access denied" on transferring anything but vanilla homegroup folders. Need to get some insights on "permissions".

New to windows 10, I have 2 accounts both in family. When I log into my account and open File explorer, I can see all the programs copied across from my previous PC, e.g. music, pictures etc., however, when my wife logs into her account, and opens file explorer the folders are all empty. How do we share common files on a single PC using file explorer and not a network or OneDrive?

I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly. What did win10 change?
hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias
ip - works fine
hostname -works fine
alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work
I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.
Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that? When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.

I can only see one folder, of many, on one of the other PCs I'm creating a mapped drive for.
This has been an intermittent problem. Usually disconnect and reconnect fixes it, but not now.

My network is really simple. A win10 laptop and a win10 desktop. The desktop has a couple of hard drives and the laptop needs to see one of them.
At various times it's all been good but then something mysterious happens and we're back to square one.
So I've set up a homegroup and both computers belong to itI've set up sharing so that the homegroup can read/writeI've added my husbands email address as a user on the desktop and accepted the invitation so that it doesn't show as pending
Yet, when I go to the laptop I can see the homegroup and the two computers that are in itI can see the network and the same two computersIf I click on the drives I get a no-permission error

I Upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago, I shared one of the folders on my desktop and now I can't close the share.
When I click stop sharing on both the ribbon and the context specific menu, after I right click the folder, nothing happens.

I've got a problem in stopping sharing some folders across my home network. Not sure if it matters, but I'm on Windows 10 Pro, running my admin user account.
Anyways, I have a folder I want to unshare from my network called Pictures2 which I believe is empty. The problem is I don't seem to have access to it even though it seems to originate from my PC.
While I was able to unshare the 'Videos2' folder by going into the Properties normally, I can't stop sharing 'Pictures2' from my network even though my computer is the one sharing it. Double-clicking gives a "Windows cannot access XXX" error.
I did notice a difference between these folders which may or may not be important - The Pictures2 folder doesn't have an owner (either that or it can't display it in advanced security settings) while the Videos2 owner was SYSTEM.
My user account was in the 'shared' list of both these two folders which is strange, as I couldn't access Pictures2 but could access Videos2.
Honestly I don't know how or when they were even created and I can't find them on my local drive if they're even meant to be there.
I tried using the manual cmd method suggested in another thread but get this:
I would like this Pictures2 folder unshared, and if I know where it's located on my PC I can delete it too.

I have a strange issue on my Windows 10 computer: I can only see 1 computer under my home network, but other computers do not appear at all. However, I can access them fine typing in the address bar manually.
Also, for some reason, "LEESERVERPC" does not appear on my network folder, but it appears on the left pane. Is this a Windows 10 issue? Other computers are running Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 7 and they easily find all computers in the network. I rebooted and resetted my router countless number of times. Refreshing doesn't seem to do anything.
Background: Originally, my Windows 10 computer was seeing all the computers in the network. As I was trying to set up another computer on the network, I refresh my network several times from my Windows 10 computer, and all a sudden all the computers except 1 disappeared on my Windows Explorer "Network". Every other computer in the network has no issues.
See Pic:
I want to emphasize that I CAN ACCESS the shared network computers. It's just that Windows Explorer's "Network" does not show most of the computers!

scanned through the 250 odd titles that came up but could not find reference to relocating the offline files folder. I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windowscsc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:).
I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.
Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Any reliable way of relocating the csc folder?

I have two machines running Windows 10 "ermintrude and dougal" and I want my home folder on each to be shared with the other on my home network. dougal can see my home folder on ermintrude, but not the other way round. I have been through all the advanced sharing settings on each machine and compared them, and I have done the same for the sharing settings for each home folder, but I cannot find any difference between them. They are identical. Each is set to share as owner using the same Hotmail address as login and the same password. As I said, I cannot find anything different between the two configurations.
