Networking :: Network Changed To Media Device

Dec 17, 2015

I have 2 computers on a workgroup network. I don't use Home network. This was working right before. Now, the second computer shows up as a media device on the first computer. Media Steaming is off.

The network page says computer1
and Media Devices says computer2

I've try to find something out of place with no success. The second computer has computer1 & 2 under Computer and computer 2 under media device

WiFi Network Accessibility Changed

Aug 20, 2015

I upgraded to Win 10 with 2 computers and my WIFI network worked with my printers and even a third computer not at that time upgraded. Yesterday I upgraded the third computer to Win 10.

I noticed that the name shown for my WIFI network was changed on the computers after another update on the software. Now I cannot get to my printer on my WIFI networks!

I called forWin 10 support and aafter waiting 1 1/2 hours goot to talk to a live person who told me they would charge me for fixing the problem! I told him that I had not installed, changed anything and he said it must be in my computer and they wanted to charge me - they were not "forcing me" I asked to talk to a supervisor and he gave me a number to call that went to a OLD peoples health support number!

Is the answer to change operating systems?

Networking :: Device Not Listed Under Device Manager

Oct 15, 2015

I just upgraded to Windows 10; not much problems for me, except one that I really wish I new that before upgrading.
Let me just say this; the Windows 10 app on my pc (running Win7 Ultimate) did not say anything about this issue, that's why I upgraded.

Under my windows 7 I had 2 Realtek RTL8168D PCI-E Gigabit Nic; which I had setup for teaming with the Realtek Teaming Utility; after the upgrade I found out that utility was not compatible with Windows 10, which sucks.

My real problem is under the Device Manager I only see one (1) Nic listed.... is this normal for Windows 10?

Also, how to setup a NIC Team without using the Realtek utility?

System is only a year old.

Flashed bios for updated memory compatibility.

Directly after all works except Internet.

Network controller is now missing (no "other devices", or exclamation point next to device.)

A month ago the wifi card had to be removed to free up pci lanes for an m.2 nvme, so I have no alternative method for Internet access.

Windows sees absolutely no networks or adapters.

Ethernet port is not blinking.

Mobo utility driver disc doesn't see a device to install drivers for.

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media After Installing From USB?

Nov 10, 2015

After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.

I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.

Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.

Networking :: Cannot Turn On Media Streaming

Feb 23, 2016

After upgrading from Win 8.1 to Win 10 media streaming is off and when the "Turn on media streaming" button is selected there is no effect, no error message, no action. Since this feature was on before the upgrade I'm assuming some dependent services where either turned off or not installed. I've verified WMP is fully functional with shared services on. I've successfully joined a Homegroup, allowing me to play media from other computers, so I'm not looking at my firewall for now. My other ACER laptop which was also upgraded to Win 10 from 8.1 has no problem with this service. Any troubleshooting guide/white paper that shows all the dependencies.

When I'm accessing my media library on the computer with my phone it does show all movies/songs in the same folder. I have chosen to share different folders like, E:movies E:kids E:adults C:user*videos. all those folders are shown as only one folder on the device i'm accessing my library with. Sub-folders within the paths does show.

In Windows 7 the folders did not batch up as only one folder, each path was shown separately.

Aug 21, 2015

I am using the "Cast to Device" option to play my movies on my TV. The problem is that when i play an mkv file the video lags and stutters.

The same video plays fine on the same computer when i use the Samsung Allshare program to stream the video to the TV.

Is Microsoft mkv support in beta stage? Is this a known issue?

Edit: Turns out that the issue affects avi files as well. What can cause this lagging?

Networking :: Can't Connect To Network

Dec 4, 2015

Today, while having lunch at my favorite restaurant, I tried to connect to their WiFi network as I usually do. I got the following message:Checking network resources. And then, after a few seconds: Can't connect to this network. My obvious question is, why not? To begin with, was it something wrong with my computer, or something wrong with their network?

For example:

DHCP server did not respond
DHCP server did not issue an IP addressStored password incorrect; enter new password: _________
WiFi adapter card not respondingInsufficient virtual memory

But no, none of that useful information was offered. How am I supposed to fix the problem?

Networking :: Connecting 2 PCs Without Network

Mar 5, 2016

I have a desktop PC running Win7 64Bit Ent. It's not actually in use, so nothing is connected. I also have a laptop running Win10 64Bit which I'm using to type this post. I have some audio files on my desktop that I'd like to pull off of there, and put them on my laptop, and then maybe on a cloud. My 1st question: Is it possible to simply use a USB cable between 2 USB 3 ports if I simply power up the desktop with the USB cable connected? Does the USB protocol provide for me to see those HDD's on the desktop via the laptop? I'm quite limited for physical space, and I don't need the desktop to be running permanently, I just need to get these files off of it. If that's NOT a solution, what is the next easiest method?

Networking :: Can't See Other Computers On Network

Jan 4, 2016

I have two Win 7 computers on my wired network and 6 Win XP computers on this same network. This main computer was Win 7 and just upgraded to Win 10 in November. For a year this network has worked just fine, plug and play basically when I set it up, now after Christmas shutdown (2 weeks), I can't see any of the computers on this network. The only thing I can see is the media drive on a computer called 6Head2. All I really do is transfer files from this main computer out to those 8 other computers.

What is wrong with my computer? Network discover, file sharing all checked, network location was changed from Public to Private today by me. But it did work last year, even with the network location being public.

Networking :: Can't Access Network

Jan 10, 2016

I have a home network that includes-Two Windows 7 PCsTwo Linux machinesA Brother MFC7820N networked multifunction printer..All the above are on wired connections. Then there's an 802.11n wireless link for laptops and media devices.I'm just setting up a new machine that's running Windows 10 Home, using the wireless network. I was annoyed to find that Brother don't have a full-function Windows 10 driver for the 7820N that supports scanning, but the Brother site says the built-in drivers in Win 10 should work for basic printing.

Problem: I successfully added the printer device to Windows 10 (at the 3rd attempt) using the "manual advanced" method. The printer has an entry in the hosts file, and was added by host name. The printer fails to print, with a "not responding" type message. The driver also can't pick up the status info from the printer.

What's really weird is-I can ping the printer from the W10 box (and the other machines) by either IP address or hostname. However, this printer has a web interface. I can access this from any of the Windows 7 machines, but the Windows 10 machine says "web site failed to respond" or somesuch. This happens with any of: Edge, IE11, or Chrome browsers.I can't even make a manual connection (telnet to port 80) from the Win 10 machine (timeout). The Windows 10 machine CAN access all the other devices on the home network, including the web servers (Apache) on both the Linux boxes.

This looks like the web access to that particular address is being blocked somehow. I have tried disabling my AntiVirus package (Kaspersky), but that makes no difference. Is Win10 perhaps detecting an "old" web server on the printer and refusing to talk to it? (and why would that prevent printing using lpd?)

Fixed. Updated drivers worked. Just had to restart a couple times for it to work.

Networking :: Can't See Network Printer

Feb 10, 2016

I have a USB connected printer (HP F4100) on my Windows 10 desktop. Everything appear to be working as I have no issue accessing the printer remotely on my Windows 7 laptop. The issue is trying to access from my Windows 10 laptop. I can see the shared workgroup in explorer, but no sign of the shared printer.

How to troubleshoot this? I've gone through the basics such as disabling Windows Firewall, but no luck. Everything looks fine in the advanced sharing settings and as mentioned, things are fine from my Windows 7 machine.

My impression of Windows 10 is not great so far. This along with my machine rebooting due to a security patch even though I had "Notify to schedule restart" selected. The whole mandatory security updates kind of irks me. I kind of get it, but as a power user, I should have the choice. Especially with the amount of sketchy patches that MS has released over the years.

Networking :: No Network Connection

Mar 5, 2016

I have Windows 10 laptop hooked up to an ethernet connection which has been working well for the past 6 months. On 2/18/16 it stopped working. I traced the problem to the Qualcomm Atheros network Controller/ Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller: Internet status > IPv4 Connectivity: No network connection IPv6 Connectivity: No network connection Clicked: diagnose --> System checked & reset, with IPv4 Connectivity and internet access restored.

This resolved the problem until 3/4, following a Windows 10 update. The above solution no longer works. Clicking 'Disable this net work device' and then enabling it again restores IPv4 Connectivity and internet access for a limited time but loading a new site or page is slower than it was prior to the emergence of this problem on 2/18, and then the connection is again lost after maybe 10 to 20 minutes.

Networking :: DLNA / UPnP - Folders Not Showing On Remote Device?

Aug 16, 2015

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10. I have a homegroup setup on my home network which allows me to share the music files stored on my PC with phones & tablets etc for streaming.

Since the upgrade when I access the files using Apps like BubbleUPnP or MConnect the music files are all shown in one giant folder rather than being sorted into the sub folders (Artist, Album etc) as it is on my PC.

This problem has only occurred since upgrading to 10. I reverted to 7 to check and everything went back to normal.

Is there a setting or checkbox I am missing?

Networking :: Possible To Assign Static IP For Each Network?

Jan 6, 2016

I'm using static IP for Network #1 which is 192.168.1.110

But when I try joining another network let's say network #2 with a router address like 192.168.43.1 i have to change network settings and use another static IP 192.168.43.10

Can't i just ask windows to use static IP 192.168.1.110 when i try to connect to network #1 and 192.168.43.10 when I connect to network #2 without having to manually configure it every time ?

I really have to use static IPs when connecting to those two particular networks...
