Networking :: Work Offline / Online Button With Network Location?
Jan 28, 2016
I have a network drive, which I set up to save a copy of a folder for offline use using the instructions here:
Working with network files when you are offline - Windows Support
I am not able to find any option for setting the drive to work online or work offline. I did manage to set it up to work offline yesterday, but forgot how. Now, I cannot find any work online or work offline button. Is it in a different place in 10?
I have changed my router. Is a 'FritzBox fon WLAN 7170'. First i connected, it was all good, i tried to connect to browser and it was good. Then i tried to connect Steam. "Could not connect to the steam network, either check your connection and click 'Retry' or start Steam in offline mode."I looked up for the probem, tried to:
- start the shortcut with -tcp - turn the firewall off - remove Steam from processes - uninstall Steam and install it again. - delete all files from Steam (without steamapps folder)
I tried other games online, they don't work either..I saw that video - Fritz!Box Firewall Port forwarding - YouTube (is 3:22 minutes long, if you want to watch it)I saw on the internet i can connect to the router settings with WIFI connection and i can't connect (CMD - ipconfig - Default Gateway in the browser).
Do i need to port forwoard all of them ?Is the Dynamic DNS the case? Why is the IPV6 with "No network access"? -Is the IPV6 important for online games?Do i need to set IPV6 ON?
I installed Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago without any incident. However, this week I have noticed that I am unable to play any videos in my hard drive (regardless of format or video player... tried Windows Media Player, VLC, the photos app) or online (like in youtube or facebook). When playing videos on my hard drive, the video player is blank and doesn't play (although VLC shows the filename and the track length just fine). When playing videos through a browser (I use Chrome) the page simply crashes without playing the video.
I have also encountered a browser error where Shockwave Flash isn't responding. I have only one flash player installed so it's likely not a conflict issue on my browser.

I have been fighting this problem ever since Windows 7. Every time I try to access my computer from another device on my network, I find I am unable to connect. I go into the Ethernet settings, and see that Make This PC Discoverable is turned off. If I switch it on, go back, and then immediately open the settings again , it is switched off again. When I look at my Network and Sharing Center, my network is set to Public network.
The only way I've been able to successfully set it to Private and keep the Make This PC Discoverable setting turned on is to change the Category setting in the registry for my network to 1. It works, and I'm able to do whatever it was I wanted to do over the network. But then the next time I want to access my PC from my LAN again, same thing.I have tried all the suggestions I can find, most of which are mentioned here: Network Location - Set to Private or Public in Windows 8.Nothing prevents it from going back to Public again after a while. This is incredibly frustrating as it completely defeats the purpose of having a local area network!
I'm not sure if it's related to the last update or not, but suddenly my homegroup started saying my other PC was offline. So I went and left it and recreated it, and sometimes it'll connect for maybe 5 minutes then disappear again. Also, it's saying almost everytime I try to join that Windows No Longer Detects a Homegroup on this network. Very strange since it's showing it. I can get to the other computer via the Network icon so it's not a disaster, but this is a frustrating issue.
scanned through the 250 odd titles that came up but could not find reference to relocating the offline files folder. I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windowscsc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:).
I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.
Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Any reliable way of relocating the csc folder?
I have restarted my pc at least more than ten times today so just i can connect for 10 or 15 minutes at once. this is the message from my connection trubleshooting: website (Microsoft Corporation) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. Detected Detected. The remote computer isn't responding to connections on port 80, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings, or because it might be temporarily unavailable. Windows couldnt find any problems with the firewall on your computer. and this is another detail from the message:

I have tried resetting the internet through command prompt and by following youtube videos but it did not work. I've been having this problem for at least 2 days already.
I only have this problem with Win10 Pro x64, regardless of the version/build numbers (v1511, build 10586.29 currently). After making a few connections to my network location that I add, in this case a WebDAV file server for school I use, Windows will eventually decide that the location doesn't exist anymore. If I remove the drive, and add it again via "Add a Network Location", no matter what address I enter, the location "...doesn't exist..." (click for image). The wizard will start, I give it an address, and after a few moments it tells me it cannot find the location, while the Windows Security box's bar is still moving from left to right trying to connect.
If I use a third-party program, it will work at first like above, but after I connect so many times after system shut downs, these programs will eventually stop working too (but they at least retain a cache so I can view my drive offline); this is because Windows Explorer decides again the location doesn't exist. If I decide to boot via my Win8.1 install, it works as I would expect it to. EDIT: A few days later I tried one of the 3rd party ones (MountainDuck for example) and it's working again. I imagine it will eventually quit again though like before.
I've done everything I can think of to rule it out including:
Disable AV suite & protection/defense components Make sure any networking related services are running Use DMZ on router briefly to rule it out Using Windows Troubleshooter Disable firewall chkdsk (via my USB copy) DISM repairs via my install.wim file Run system repair (via my USB copy)
Interesting enough, this is a relatively clean install. My first Win10 install had huge problems with the v1151 update, so I formatted and installed Win10 v1511 right. This problem, exactly the same, occurred with my first install too, eventually just ceasing to work like now. Whereas I'd expect the problem to start after I installed some program or service, it always happens a few weeks later out of the blue, when nothing new has been installed that could explain why it stopped working (or at least to me).
At this point, I'm lost and don't know if this can be fixed, or if this is another problem to add to the list of "Windows 10 killed networking in general".
I've attached a CBS log, but importing my install.wim file doesn't change it, nor does it probably change my login background which I know also makes the system find errors.
My Windows 10 is in Turkish so some folder descriptions my differ from the English one! I'm using a folder in D (Windows 10 installed on C) named as Downloads to secure my downloaded files incase of a format or etc and changed the location of the Windows Downloads folder by simply right clicking the folder and choosing the Properties > Location in C:User[my username]
But in the start menu (which i enabled the view of Downloads folder from Control Panel>Personalizations>Start>Choose which folders ll be shown>Downloads "ON") when i click on Downloads it says "This shorcut doesnt work............... Do you want to delete the shortcut?"
my start button wont work, i cannot restart my computer and even from the sign on screen the only option i ave it to shut down. my icons are still on the taskbar but i cannot view them and when i open my browsers its deleting my last sessions even when i have them saved to appear each time i open the browser. my time and date is gone as well as any viable option to get to my drivers and computer settings. the only thing ive been able to get to is the actio of using the windows button and pressing r but each seach i get an error message that anything i type cant be found.
when i click on the start button, either right or left click, there is absolutelyno kind of response. i cannot get to the control panel, nor turn off the laptop, nor anything else. the stupid thing is only two months old
My computer tech had me download Windows 10 on my husband's computer. While we were using it last night the Start button quit working. Part of the toolbar were deleted also. It appears this is a common Windows 10 issue. I have tried all the fixes I can find, but am hesitant to download from unknown sources.
See my post below about upgrade issues. I just downloaded and installed the old Windows 7 games. I went to start to find them and up came this error. A blue rectangle appears on the screen and says they will try to fix it when I sign out and in again. I have just done that three times. I have also switched users. The other user has the start menu working just fine. Stupidly I am back to my own login so I can't tell you exactly what the error message says.
Is there any other way to access programs (apps as they are now called) other than via the start menu?
I have a brand new HP laptop with 8gig of ram, and noticed that with cortana location enabled my wifi speeds slow way down especially since the last windows update. Noticed this since the latest windows 10 update which was suppose to update cortana?
Since the January 12th 2016 update my laptop/Win 10 has gone hey-wire.If laptop sits idle for awhile, the Windows 'button' (and the Win key) do not work ... I powered off and rebooted - win key came back but during reboot got several extraneous windows.Suspect maybe the update didn't go correctly but don't know how (or even if it's possible) to force the update to 'go' again.
The restore button at the right top corner doesn't work, I can't minimize the window to the required size likewise other window applications. You can't see two word documents at time you are able to see one of them in full display, or otherwise you have to minimize it to the taskbar to see the other. is there solution for this? I couldn't compare two documents (pdf version and word version at the same time)
I upgraded recently from w8.1 to w10 using free UG offered by MS. It has been working well until about a week ago, when suddenly one evening (it worked well throughout the day) when I clicked on the start button the tiles did not show up. I have done sfc scan and DIMS/restore health many times; all of them show there are no system integrity issues. I am able to work on my files by going through file explorer. Right click on start button works, but left click doesn't.
About two days ago, I got a notification windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n142txeyewy!microsoft.windows.in. I searched all over for a solution to this problem...and finally in one of the threads in this site I found the following solution provided by USgroupie in August 2015 (13th Aug) to enter the following command in Powershell - Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} - I entered this and the system ran the whole process and did come up with a number of red-notifications saying it could not register a number of Apps...
However, the beauty is that after I upgraded to w10, I have not installed any apps except ofcourse the office 2010, adobe reader and such. In fact I have never used the app store...I have an MS account but I use only a local account.
i try to left-click on the windows start button, nothing happens. the other half of the time, the appropriate menu of apps comes up. the right-click part of the start button ALWAYS works. is there a way to fix the start button so it always works? OR is there a way i can bring up the menu from the right-click menu--perhaps a command prompt....
Just upgraded to Win 10 and kept losing internet access. After troubleshooting my home network is now named "Network 2". How do I change the name to "Network 1 "?
Another issue I see (on a different Win10 machine) is when i right click the start menu the links that are pointed out in red do not work. all other links work fine. It seems the shortcuts are broken but i looked in the user folders and they are all there. clicking the links in the users folder opens the screens but using the shortcut doesn't seem to work. it's very odd.
