Access Denied When Trying To Backup To External HD
Jan 14, 2016So i have a folder in which i do all of my work, that's why it's a google drive folder located in C:UsersTaloGoogle DriveFacu
The thing is that i also want to back it up into my passport external drive (just in case). I'm using WD SmartWare software to do this. I have no problem in backing up my other files, but i can't get it to backup this google drive folder because it says "Access denied".
How i can allow access to that folder? I tried running the WD Smartware as administrator but the same happens.

Apr 14, 2016I was moving video files (AVI) from an external backup drive (WD Element) to another external backup drive (Seagate expansion) after having moved another video file from my laptop (Acer) to that Seagate external drive. The night before I had moved some video files from the WD to the Seagate with no problem but using a different laptop (Sony). These video files are all rather large and I can tell that the space is still being allocated on the Seagate because while the folder cannot be seen the space that was there is still being used by the Seagate because I am missing over 100GB which would be about the size of that now missing folder.
What happened was there was a message that the Seagate drive could not be recognized while the files were in the process of being moved to that drive from the WD. This is after I had already moved a video file of about 26GB with no problem into that now missing folder. When I saw the message I attempted several times to move files to that Seagate drive but I could not so I unplugged the Seagate drive from that laptop (Acer) then reinserted it into the usb port. I got a repair message that said it needed to be repaired because some files were corrupted and that no data would be lost but the drive would be unavailable during the repairs so I checked ok. It took only about 30 seconds and it said the repairs were completed and the drive was available but I noticed that the folder that I was moving the video files to was not gone.
As I stated there are more than 100GB of files in that folder some are video and others are audio recordings that were created by using the myrecording (audio and video) features of the Acer laptop and they are very important so I need to figure out if they can be retrieved from that Seagate drive. I have not copied anything else onto that Seagate drive but I have plugged it into the Acer computer to ensure it is being recognized. Both the external drives WD and Seagate are plug and play that are powered from the usb -- they have no power adapters.

Jan 9, 2016Pen Drive and external hard drive keep getting errors! So I select to fix the problem scandrive recommended scan and repair. But there's never anything wrong with them it reports! And it takes ages to scan it takes 10-15 minutes for 32GB pen drive. Windows 7 Pro done it in a flash! Anything I can do about it.

Jan 2, 2016Jan. 3rd 2016 I have a 931 GB external HDD using a brick power supply and connected by USB. I wish to do weekly backups to it via Start/Settings/Update & Security/Backup.
It is not listed when I click Add a drive, although I can see and read it in This PC. I tried a restart but that has not worked. I do see a couple of USB sticks which are too small. Trying via Advanced settings is the same.
Prior to trying to add this drive I scrolled down and followed the instruction which said to delete the previous drive which was also an external HDD connected by sata. I used THAT drive via Macrium and it got carried over in the W10 update from W8.1.
Could Not Boot From Bootable Backup Or USB Drive
Jan 17, 2016After the recent update I had some problems and decided to reset my system. For some reason I could not boot from my bootable backup drive or a bootable USB drive. I have software which came with the external drive and it previously backed up and created the bootable USB drive. So, I reset the pc and of course it wiped out all my programs like the backup drive software, Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, etc. etc.. I reloaded the software for my backup drive and then was able to restore from the image which I had previously created. Of course I had to get the update again but it went well yhis time. All the programs were there and my system is operating flawlessly once again. The image backup was a lifesaver.
I highly recommend the external usb backup drive for recovery purposes. It was extremely easy to create the bootable image backup (for recovery) and keeps a running backup as well. There are numerous ways to create a backup but this was just too easy and, as it turned out, worked well for me.
System Image Backup To USB Drive?
Apr 1, 2016I recently purchased a Lenovo 900 ultrabook, and proceeded to upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro (using a Windows 7 Ultimate product key). Now that I have done this the factory "restore" does not include my upgrade and I am concerned that I would lose it if I ever needed to restore.
So, I am trying to do a full system image backup to a flash drive, but Windows 10 says that the drive is not allowed for this. I can create the USB drive as a network share and get the backup to work using that method, but I don't really trust that it will work properly.
How to do a full system image backup to a USB drive in Windows 10 that you trust will work in the case a restore is needed?

Aug 19, 2015So I have 1 SSD and 2 HDDs in my PC and I installed Windows 10 using the auto-install while I was sleeping. I just booted up using Win 10 for the first time and everything is super slow compared to Win 7. My SSD is my C: drive and I was using that for my OS drive but my old OS drive, a HDD also has Win 7 on it also. I didn't give much thought to which drive it would install to but now I am wondering, how do I check which drive it is running off without unplugging my drives 1 at a time?

Jun 13, 2015There is just one requirement for the upgrade for my 32 GB 8.1 Tablet which concerns me (at the moment). It is the requirement for 16 GB of free storage space, which is more than twice what I have despite doing everything I can think of to reduce the demands on my HDD/SSD.
Then I found the following, rather hidden away in a forum:
'Windows 10 will use partition switching according to the pre-session presentation by Microsoft on how to upgrade to Windows 10. If enough space is not available, Windows 10 may expand the system partition to make room for the new OS. Likewise, on mobile phones, the app files and customizable system files may be transferred to SD card in case of low storage space.'
This looks to me like what I hoped might be possible. I use an 'integral' SD Memory Card (which I could upgrade significantly if necessary) as if it were a (D) partition. It now has most of my important programs on it, as portable apps. If I have understood the quote above, W10 will use my SD Card as part of the upgrade. Is this right?

Feb 25, 2016Ok, I bought a 2tb Seagate external drive which I swapped in my ps4, and took the 500 gig drive out of the ps4 to use as my external drive for my laptop.
But, my problem is, is that when I put in the usb cord to connect my external hard drive to my laptop, it lights up, but it doesn't show up anywhere on my laptop. I've done the disc management, and nothing is showing up as well.

External Drive Appearing In Recycle Bin

Sometimes when I boot (not all the time) I get an error message that the recycle bin is corrupted because the drive is showing as one of the drives that utilizes the recycle bin. It then asks me if I want to empty the recycle bin, which I do. I then go in and change the recycle bin properties to NOT include that drive path.

Automatic Driver Installation On Clean Install After Upgrade
Aug 8, 2015I learned how to perform the clean install of Windows 10 after the upgrade. The problem is after I'm finally at the desktop. There seems to be a background process of installing the realtek drivers and Nvidia drivers. But Windows update will also detect the Nvidia drivers and install them as well. But they fail every time.

However any programs that were loaded on a second (non-bootable) disk were not recognized at all. Is there any way, other than reloading all those programs, to get Win10 Pro to know they are there? I thought this would be caught when the system upgraded but this did not happen. I was trying to keep my boot drive lean and mean.

Need To See Program Files On External Hard Drive
Aug 30, 2015Windows 10 did an update on my wife's desktop that was incompatible with the Nvidia graphic drivers on it. As a result, the dual monitors no longer display. We took the computer to the local Microsoft store and they were fully aware of the problem and are working on it. But, after two weeks, the problem has not been solved. Meanwhile we bought a new desktop and had Microsoft empty the entire contents of the C: drive onto an external hard drive. They did and showed me that the external drive contained the root directory and program data that contains years of work using Lightroom.
I brought the external hard drive home and connected it. Luckily I can see the User Libraries but not the Program Data. Is there some way that I can make everything visible in the external hard drive so that I can copy the contents to the new desktop?

Dec 21, 2015In the past few days my external hard drive makes the sound (windows notification) like when I unplug it from my desktop. Then about 5 seconds later I get another sound and notification asking me how I would like to view content for G: (my external hard drive). I only have it attached to use for backups and I've checked my back up program (easeus) and my backups haven't been happening either. I used crystaldisk to check it and it's healthy. Why it would be essentially shutting itself off and on?
