View 1 RepliesI found this video on youtube. It fixed one of my major problems with windows 10, bing! As much as i love having a search right on the taskbar, bing just does not seem to work with me !

So I just installed Windows 10 a day ago, and all I have to say is wow, Microsoft did great. I'm blown away by it's speed/ease of use! Anyways, when I click on Cortana, the only options that I have are to show or hide the Cortana icon, I don't have a "Show search box" context menu selection. I installed Windows 10 through the insiders program page when I installed.
View 8 RepliesWhen I use Cortana, she'll get what I want, but she'll use the Bing search engine ON Google Chrome.I'd rather have her use Google instead.
View 1 RepliesMy windows 10 button, cortana, and google chrome won't work. The image for Microsoft edge and the windows store on the taskbar are black now and also won't open. I tried using the scan in powershell and it said that it couldn't find any problems. Also I believe my Nvidia drivers need updates but they also won't open it says it had to close. I already used malwarebytes to check for malware. I'm not sure what to do its been working for the whole time I have had windows ten which has been a decent amount of time but it just yesterday started this.
View 5 RepliesI just got new computer with WIN10. Before that I use win7. I want to set Internet Explore and Google search as my default to use on the internet. Can I do that and how to set it up.
View 10 RepliesHow can I - Use chrome/google for search results
Currently when we type anything into the taskbar search, it launches Edge + Bing to give the results.
I would like it to use google and my chrome browser cos I find it gives better results.
I'm using a windows 10 TP virtual machine, the "Search the web and Windows" feature, can I get it to use Google and not Bing? I changed it to use Chrome and not IE, but can't figure out if there is a way to use Google search on it.
View 1 RepliesI like the concept / idea of being able to search from the taskbar but I want to change the default search engine used by the search box from bing o google without changing my browser or installing another app or extension. I don't want to use google chrome and its bing2google extension.
There has to be a way to force Win10, Cortana and the search box to use another search engine of your own choice. Changing the default search engine of IE & Edge is easy enough to do.
It would be great if Google could develop an app to change the search engines used by Win10's search box, IE & Edge in one click. It would be a lot quicker and less tiresome than doing it all manually.
I have google.com.au set as home page as I mainly start browsing with a search. I first started to have problems last night when opening a new TAB for a new search and selecting Home page rather than using the Bing search on the new TAB. As soon as I start typing the search bar jumps to the top left corner and gives you a few suggestions, but after I finish entering my search word/term and click the search icon or press enter I can see internet traffic by the light on 3g modem but the page remains blank.
This is now starting to happen on my homepage when first opening Edge. I type in my search the search bar jumps to top left corner showing a couple of suggestions, but that's as far as it will go.
It does however work normally sometimes. Last night was the first time I came across this problem and I'm sure I've done searches this way since I started using EDGE without any problems.
I had my wife try the same thing (in EDGE) with the same result, though she uses Firefox as her default browser.
Problem:I press Start / I type the filename of any files I know exist in my Google Drive folder (c:/users/Luke/Google Drive) nothing appears. It says "Windows is still indexing some files. This might not be everything just yet."
Thing is, if I go to Indexing Options, it clearly says "Indexing complete." and there's no HDD activity (and it's had ages to rebuild the index)... and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).
The best workaround I've found is switching off Indexing (which reveals files in Google Drive folder, but now searching the whole computer takes forever)
I accidentally deleted google as my search engine from windows 10 no longer available for selection ..
View 1 RepliesI have a problem when pressing the search button. When I press the search button it launches the browser and goes straight to Google and in the search area reads "{searchTerms}". I have the latest version of WP 10 (insider fast). According to one site I found it could be virus?
View 3 RepliesHow do I delete Bing search enging from Microsoft Edge and change to Google. I've already added Google, but how can I delete Bing?
View 9 RepliesI managed to change the search engine to Google in the new Win10 search located in the menu and also in Edge. However, the little address toolbar, that can be added to the taskbar by putting a checkmark in the address toolbar after right clicking on the taskbar and choosing toolbars has suddenly switched to Bing as the search engine. I would love to have this set at Google as it always was. I find this toolbar so much more convenient than the one that came with the new win10 menu. I have already turned off Cortana over there.

My windows is on C and my music is on Z. If I write one of my track's name into the search it doesn't say anything. Can I make the search find those things?
View 1 Repliesjust done a fresh install with the latest iso available. here it is the problem using search/cortana... (honestly i didn't care in the past, so i don't it's a normal beahaviour) -loggin in as administrator i can use the search and find settings like "system restore" or "personalize" -loggin in as limited user, no matter if local account or microsoft account, i can't search for settings and i get the message "incomplete" on top of the window... but all documents, images, start menu entries, etc. are showed perfectly. i googled around, but i couldn't find what happens to me. solutions are for completely broken search service. even create a new account or recreate the index didn't work.. is it normal for limited users?!? bug?!? i don't want reinstall again
View 5 RepliesI am enjoying Windows 10 very much, but I don't have the option for the Cortana search bar. When I right click on the taskbar and hover over Cortana, I can only choose between hidden and icon. I tried to change the value in the registry to 2, but that didn't work.
View 1 RepliesI was just wondering if it is possible to keep website as the home page but change the search engine to google? I current have the default homepage where all the news and everything are there as soon as I open edge. but I HATE bing as my search engine and would like to change it to Google search engine but keep the same home page is there anyway to do this?
View 1 RepliesI know that a huge part of Windows 10 is that they are trying to make it all on the cloud, but I feel MUCH more secure with everything on my computer. I will want to use the cloud for some things, but not for everything.
The thing I want to avoid the most is using my Microsoft account to sign into my computer. I want to have my own local account that is separate from all internet as my computer login. If I want to do stuff online, I will go to the browser.
My annoyance is that Every time I try to search for a folder or program using the search button, it opens Cortana, who immediately asks me to sign in with my Microsoft account. At first I was fine with it, but then I noticed that it changed my computer login into my Microsoft account login.
Is there a way to make Cortana stop telling me to sign in to Microsoft every time I try to search for a folder?
You know how hitting windows and then typing in a program name brings it up? How do I bring the programs from another drive? I'm okay if that means ONLY bringing up programs that the other drive.
View 1 RepliesIf I take ownership and delete Cortana from Windows/SystemApps will my search function on the taskbar still work (that is, search within the PC)?
View 2 RepliesIn windows 10 it says I can chat with Cortana and ask it questions and get a personalized response, but this isn't the case for me. It says I can speak aloud or type, but since I've no mic, I choose to type.
When I ask it something like "How's the weather" or "How tall is Jeff Goldblum?" I get a bing search page that pops up instead of a Cortana response. All of the interests are enabled and such and I've filled out the about me with my name.
As soon as I start typing ANYTHING, it shows results for "The Web" and "My Stuff" but doesn't even try to ask Cortana the question.
I just reinstalled and there's no option in her settings to turn off the web search she does when you search for files on your pc and such. How else could I turn it off if its not listed in her settings?
View 5 Repliessearch box a.k.a cortana isn't working. I tried the method with task manager to end the process but it isn't working. how can i make this work?
