No Internet Applications Working / Cannot Click Task Bar
Jul 29, 2015
So.. I upgraded to windows 10, and like usual, I had high expectations.I installed it, it seemed to work fine and all, then I cant click the task bar. Literally, cannot click into anything except for Steam and Windows Explorer. No start menu working, no internet applications working. So.. I go to reinstall windows 10, and I get the same shit. So now that I cannot open up the start menu, I cant even revert back to Windows 7.My only option now seems to be to just chuck all my shit on my external and do a clean wipe.. Which I don't really want to do but will if needed.
I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had problems going into and out of sleep mode which seem have been resolved by installing updates for Intel Graphics. Now I can't get anything to come up when I left click on the Start button. All of the other icons in the task bar will only work with a left click of the mouse, nothing happens with a right click. Also, I did not get Cortana when I upgraded to Windows 10 on this device. I also upgraded another lap top and have Cortana on that one. With all of these problems occurring one after the other, can I reinstall Windows 10?
Say I have a desktop 1 with MS Word open. If I then open another desktop (desktop 2), and then open a word file from my hard drive on desktop 2, windows 10 will take me out of desktop 2, put be back on desktop 1, and then open the file I requested. I then have to open the desktop switcher, and manually drag the word document from desktop 1 to desktop 2.
Effectively, if I have a window of one application open in one desktop, and I then open the same application in a different desktop, windows will move me back to the original desktop and open the application there.
This is extremely annoying and occurs with all applications, is there any way to fix it?
my Toshiba Satellite has Windows 10 and it shows that it's connected to the internet though when i try and run chrome it say's it's not connected when i run steam it say's it cannot connect to the steam network.
I'm running a small, industry specific program in Windows. It runs fine on a LOT of Windows 10 installs, but on the occasional Windows 10 machines I have the following happen.
- The program loads like normal. - The user is prompted to enter a PIN to enter the software. - The software just sits there, showing no input even though the user has entered their PIN. - If I right click on the taskbar, all of a sudden the PIN shows as entered. - The user then presses the login button and again, nothing happens. - If I right click on the taskbar, again, the software refreshes and the next screen is shown.
This goes on and on. The app will only refresh when the task bar has been right clicked.
Now interestingly out of the say 10 or so Windows 10 machines that we've had issues with, some of them can be fixed by running a Windows Update. Others can be fixed by running in compatibility mode. Some of them though, simply won't fix their behaviour.

I tried the powershell command, but it did not work. Is there any quick fixes to this? I'm not ever good with OS related problems! Also, I can't use cortana, so I am guessing this is definitely an OS related problem.
Laptop issue. I was using it without any problem, but ten I restarted it. I could normally login, but when desktop shows up I cant click any icons, run task manager and when pointing mouse on taskbar, it changes to wait circle. After some time window saying that program stopped working shows up but it does not change anything.
I am using windows 10. I can get on the internet with my chrome browser. When I click on the windows "search the web and windows" icon a message pops up saying it can't get on the web right now.
Since I downloaded win 10, every time I click on a link to an internet site, I get a pop-up box asking which app to use to open the link: IE, Edge or another app. There is a box to check "always use" the answer I give, which for me is IE. I am only using the desktop and IE 11 on the desktop. Checking the box to always use IE does nothing. I have a new Dell Inspirion which came loaded with win 8.1
I have run into a small issue were the icons on the taskbar such as, wifi, battery, sound, and action center will not do anything when clicked, when i click the time it wont open the calendar, if i right click sound and battery i can open it that way but when i right click action centre and click open action centre it wont do anything.
Start Menu doesn't work upon clicking. Task Manager works when system first boots but then goes into "Not Responding" mode, doesn't work either. Cortana/Search doesnt work. Currently cant click icons on desktop either. Right click doesn't seem to be working either
Third party apps like games seem to be working fine oddly enough.
Tried a system restore, system restore failed. Tried reinstalling windows apps via powershell, command ran for a really long time, before I got the "Server Execution failed" message. Have tried creating a new user, new user creation via "Manage User Accounts" tends to hang again. Have tried running below from cmd, returned with no errors.
=> sfc / scannow
Have run a malware check, returned negative.
Have run the windows troubleshooter, got a message "Fix or work around emerging issue 67758"
Getting this message right now:: ms-settings personalization-background => This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
I haven't performed a clean install of Windows yet on my system, as I am trying to determine if there's any way to fix this problem without formatting my disk.

I haven't been able to locate the program and am not sure where to find the correct program. I've searched the net but there's no mention of Windows 10.
Got my Win 10 at the lauch day and have been enjoying it until I decided to do some clean up. I ran Ccleaner and Puran utilities reg cleaning tools. After that the start button and task bar became unresponsive.
I tried to google the issue and found out a sort of a solution, but it's not good enough to be permanent. This was that fix: Right click on the Start Menu button and open Command Prompt (Admin)Enter PowerShell in the command linePaste the following line in the Administrator:
Wait for the PowerShell to execute the command (ignore a few red error codes).
I'm also having problems with updates which seems to be failing everytime. I was hoping the updates would fix the first problem, but since the updates won't istall, I can't know if they would.
So now I'm thinking about fully resetting the install, but since I don't have external hard drive, I wouldn't want to go that far with this.
"start menu and cortana aren't working. We`ll try to fix it the next time you sign in. Sign out now".My 5.1 speaker system has only 2 speakers working now. My task bar is not working either.
Windows bottom task bar has stopped working after windows 10 up date. Windows logo, search, and task view all not working. computer boots up fine no issues at all. except for the task bar.
I installed wind 10 in aug 2 days ago my right click in my icons on the bottom wont respond it works every where else I went to windows update and it says I last updated 7/15 but I put win 10 in on aug 30th? Im not sure if windows did something as far as I know I didnt and I have added anything.
This issue just popped up after restarting my computer today. Earlier, all the task bar icons were showing and I could see the time/date, but clicking on them would do nothing. Also whenever I tried to open pictures with "Photos" I would get an error message about something timing out and I would have to use windows explorer.
So I restarted, and when I booted my computer up again, the task bar icons never showed up and the time and date is gone. I can't click on cortana and clicking the windows icon will bring up nothing. I've restarted twice since then but nothing has worked so far.
Sometime in December, 2015 my keyboard Windows button and my task bar Start menu and Search stopped working and without the ability to START I lost all the tiles. Windows has now become very cumbersome to use.
I have given up on Windows 10 and it's too late to recover Windows 7 (Windows 7 was great). Really wish this had not happened as I have been a Windows user since version 3.1. I guess I posted this here because I'm frustrated with the problem and need to air it out. Must buy a new PC.
For the second time in a row after an update my start button and task bar have stopped working. I downloaded a batch file from a forum site the last time and it worked, so i used it again. My system is now working again. As this appears to be an issue that Microsoft cannot resolve I am now going to turn off automatic updates.
I use a HP laptop & since the last few days I am not able to open any files or click on something since the left (main) key & double tap on the mouse pad are not working! Although I am able to move the cursor/pointer over the touch pad & the right click is working fine as well! I searched the entire internet & nothing seem to work! The last thing I remember doing that might have caused this problem (earlier everything was working fine but sometimes touchpad used to get stuck) is hitting the fn+f5 button that I read in this thread Touchpad not working for windows 10.
My audio seems to not be working. I have never had this issue with this computer before until 2 days ago. I was able to roll back my system to an older date which fixed it for about a day. This time, however, it did not get the same results. My audio is just...well... gone. The sound (lower right corner in the task bar) says it is muted. When I click the icon it brings me straight to a troubleshoot, which we all know never actually fixes the problem.
The driver is installed and before I get asked if I have done the un-install and re-install, yes I have.I have un-installed and re-installed close to 6 times now. I have gone into the services and restarted (stop and start) the windows audio service close to 12 times.
Due to my audio working when I rolled back the system before, I assume my sound card is fine, but the software is not working properly (despite what the device manager says). I have also updated my system to windows 10 from windows 8.1, yet the issue remains.
