When ever I leave my system on, windows goes to sleep but the cpu remains on fan's running and all but when you try to wake the system up nothing works the only way is to hold the cpu power button down till the system completely shuts down. Was running windows 7
I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 on the 29th. At that time my system would go to standby sleep without and issue. Since the big day, I can only get it to sleep by using the sleep option on the shut down or sign out drop down.
I have reinstalled my graphics card drivers. I have also reinstalled my network adapter and deselected the option in power management to "allow this device to wake the computer".
Everytime I reboot my monitor says Monitor is going to sleep, then logo from Dell then boots, been doing this for a year, I use no sleep functions in power options,
So I've and tried some more and I cannot seem to get my PC to Sleep. I was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate. It's a custom built rig for gaming and streaming movies. Not sure why, but I put it on sleep, I see the PC go down as if it's in sleep mode and then I leave the room. I go by the room again and the PC is back on.
I have a HP Envy that is only 11 months old. I installed Windows 10 not too long ago and now I am experiencing issues with the sleep mode function. I have tried many other suggestions in power troubleshooter and other "fixes", but nothing is working.
Here's the issue. When my laptop enters sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. The keyboard is unresponsive with the exception of the backlight key. No matter what I do, I cannot wake it and this includes Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The power button remains lit, but the screen remains black and will not wakeup. The only way to fix this is to hard reboot the laptop by holding the power button down until it shuts off and then reboot it.
I downloaded windows 10 yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine. However, every time I shut my computer, it's supposed to go into sleep mode from which a shake of the mouse will wake it. It is indeed going to sleep, but I can't wake it through any interaction with the mouse or keyboard. The power light is still on, indicating that the computer is sleeping, but I can't get it to wake up. I have had to hold the power button to turn it off and then on and I'm pretty sure that's terrible for my computer to not shut down properly.
After upgrading to W10 my pc keeps waking up from sleep mode. I've disables the reboot and scan in to wake the pc in task scheduler, I removed the wake on lan, mouse and keyboard from waking it in device manager, and I've disabled what I can in power management. It still wakes up a few minutes after going into sleep mode..
I recently updated my pc software frm win 7 to 10.nw when I switch on pc after win logo display the screen remain blank fa abt 30 mins then it goes to sleep. This problem is happening after update to 10.
So when I go somewhere, like today, I sleep my computer until I get back. Lately it has been turning back on after a while sleeping. Today I left the house around 8:45am and slept the PC. I got back at around 12:30pm and the computer was on. I do not have Intel Smart Connect installed.
When I first bought this desktop, after the prescribed amount of time of inactivity (it may be something like 15-20 minutes), the computer would go to sleep. As I've used it more, I've added a few different software items here and there. This computer is mainly used for school and leisure work, so there are no "heavy duty" programs on there. Recently, however, I've noticed that the computer will continue to stay on and the fan running (or something is humming) all of the time. Is there a way to check what program may be running that makes the computer think there is activity, when there is none?
I always put my computer to sleep at night before bed, after I installed W10 whenever it wakes up I get a grey screen with the number 90 in the bottom right corner.
If I have say 10 programs up and am in the middle of things on each and I hit sleep then:
1.) The computer indeed goes to sleep i.e. the CPU Fan goes off. 2.) When I come back several hours later I always find that the CPU fan is on. 3.) When did the CPU Fan come back on? How do I set this time? This is the big question! 3.) I then use my mouse and the screen shows me the position on all 10 programs exactly as I left it.
Now the CPU fan coming back on after xxx minutes which I want to control means it rebooted some time after it went to sleep. On this machine there is a raid controller so the reboot process took about 5 minutes.
Other facts: If I hit sleep so the machine appears to turn off and the CPU fan stops and then put off the switch on the PSU then of course when I come back into the room in 8 hours or whatever I must turn the switch back on. I then hit the power button and wait 5 minutes while the raid controller and the CPU boot up and then I am back onto the 10 programs exactly where I left them.
So in the sleep command I want to set the time when it reboots to say 7 hours if I am going home to dinner and rest. If I am going to be away for an hour I want to set this time to say 1 hour. That way I can save having to hit sleep and then turn off the PSU switch to keep my CPU fan off all the time I am away.
To put it another way if I just hit sleep and leave for all I know it reboots after 5 minutes so electric saving is low!!
I have installed W10 twice using the update feature. Everything work fine except when I want to shutdown or put the machine to sleep by clicking on those options, the machine makes noise like the HD is working. It then just shuts down and reboots again. The only way I can shut it off is by using the button on the computer.
I have an HP 8540 laptop. I have the power settings set to high performance and all the options to go to sleep when plugged in are set to off/no.
HOWEVER, it keeps going to sleep even when things like a download is running. There r a few things like my 3D printer program that will keep it awake. I did however have it go to sleep a couple of times during a print and I changed something (I forgot what it was) and it stopped doing that but not for other things and not in general. When plugged in I do not want it to go to sleep unless I press my power button. I don't have a sleep button, but that is also set to no sleep.
It does not go to sleep if I am actively using the mouse and/or kbd. I had HP power assist running but I shut that down and it still goes to sleep. Everything is up to date.
So as the title says, every now and then Windows 10 randomly decides to wake itself up from sleep. It doesn't happen at any consistent time, some days it stays asleep until I actually turn the PC back on. Using powercfg /lastwake just gives me a wake history count and doesn't provide any information.
I can't figure out why this is happening. I've tried googling it and have found similar complaints but no real solution. It's not hardware that is waking it up and I have already disabled the "allow wake" setting for my network adapters in device manager.
Today when I turned on my computer, it has failed to sleep. I followed 2 tutorials on how to fix the issue. None have seemed to work. I even restarted my system and it still won't sleep.
I just upgraded from windows 7 sp2 to Windows 10.. MS makes me log in with a password. I don't have sensitive information. No one but me uses the computer. Someone suggested a program to run so that when I reboot, I don't have to sign in. That works okay, but now the damn thing falls asleep, and I STILL have to sign in with a password.
So, I figured I'd get around that by extending the auto sleep time, but I can't figure out how to do that.
so im placing the computer in sleep mode sometimes it goes to sleep and then wakes up after 1 min or it just turns of the screens. i found it in the event viewer i think i turned of almost everything in device manager so that the devices can't wake the computer.
Is it possible to enable Hybrid Sleep in Windows 10? This is what WIkipedia says in the article about Sleep mode:
Sleep mode and hibernation can be combined: the contents of RAM are first copied to non-volatile storage like for regular hibernation, but then, instead of powering down, the computer enters sleep mode. This approach combines the benefits of sleep mode and hibernation: The machine can resume instantaneously, but it can also be powered down completely (e.g. due to loss of power) without loss of data, because it is already effectively in a state of hibernation. This mode is called "hybrid sleep" in Microsoft Windows other than Windows XP.
It's not the same as Fast Startup, because this is basically a stripped-down variant of hibernation as described in the original post. I can't find the option to enable Hybrid Sleep anywhere.
I've tried everything I've read but nothing will make my PC sleep. It worked fine with Windows 8.1 but since 10 it doesn't matter what I change, the only way to make the PC sleep is to do it manually.
Here are some of the steps I've followed with no success:
- powercfg /requests shows nothing - powercfg /energy doesn't show anything interesting - no media sharing is enabled - homegroup is disabled - disabling NIC has no effect - removing everything from the PC other than power and HDMI for video has no effect - everything but my mouse is set not to wake pc (I have also tried with the mouse also set to no avail) - updated drivers where possible
The weird thing is if I don't log onto the PC from a reboot, it will sleep just fine - the minute I log on it refuses to auto sleep. Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, the sleep works just fine again.
It's combined with the auto setting for windows update (despite having disable wake timers selected) the PC will sometimes wake in the middle of the night and stay on until I sleep it again.
Running a Dell XPS 15, (L502X). Upgraded from 7 to 10 Pro yesterday. Played around a bit with the new OS and then went off to other things. Laptop went into sleep mode after 15 minutes as it always has. But this time I couldn't wake it up. Required me to power off the unit, then power it back on. Same thing happens now each time the machine goes to sleep mode.
After upgrading to Windows 10, my PC will not go to sleep automatically nor will the displays turn off after the specified time (10 minutes). If I put it to sleep manually from the Start menu, it will go to sleep and usually stays that way until manually woken up. I had no issues with my PC going to sleep in Windows 7.
So far I've tried: Unchecking "Allow this device to wake the computer" on my NIC Disabling password required when the PC wakes up (saw it on another thread so figured I'd try it)Updating all drivers (chipset, graphics, etc)Updating my motherboard's BIOS Disconnecting my keyboard and mouse Checking powercfg /requests (its blank - everything is none)
