View 1 RepliesI uninstalled Windows10 on my laptop, now it cannot start up again, it was showing launch repair and says it cannot do it automatically. =Won't accept user name or password on recovery .
View 9 RepliesI was working on my laptop just fine this morning and when using a specific program noticed it was saving work as a previous user. So I went to accounts and changed the user name to mine. Now when I start the computer and am prompted for password it just says "incorrect password" even though it still shows the "password hint" as the same as it used to be and the user pic is still the old one.
I am freaking out as I have deadlines due today and can't access my computer!
I actually did not forget the password, but I flucked up with the net use pc /random command. What to do now. Windows 10, ASRock motherboard, No windows account...
View 1 RepliesIf I upgrade a Windows 7 Pro desktop to Windows 10 Pro, then I do not have any issues. However if I do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, and create the password for the administrative account.
After getting it all setup, I add it to the domain on the network. I can log in with the login info from the Active Directory Server. Now the problem I run into, is say if I want to even change a file name, it asks for the Administrative username and password, at which point I have to enter ComputernameUser for the username then Password when the pop up happens.
Is there a way I can remove that? It doesn't seem to do that on any Windows 7 pro to Win 10 Pro upgrades though. And I have several more machines to do clean installs.
How's that possible? Imagine a tablet (SP3 or whatever; mine is a Dell), Win10, two users. Both have chosen the Picture Password login. Nice.
First showstopper: At device turn on, the last accessed user login is present. No worries, it was so for 8.1 as well. But there was a back arrow to go back picking another one.
Here is not: Win10 Picture Password login has nothing. Niet. Nada. Only the picture. And some useless space on the left. You want to choose another user? Nein. You can't from there!
I tried different methods: swipes (what? In Win10? All gone, me fool!), pressing ESC (I've a connected keyboard), pressing my account image. nothing.
The only way? You must click to choose a different method of access (aka Text Password). From there there is the users-picker that let you choose another user.
I just upgraded a new laptop to Windows 10 with the latest build. Everything was great until I rebooted after uninstalling some bloatware and now I can't get back into Windows. The login screen comes up and the only user account (admin) is listed, but there is no where to enter the password. This has be baffled.
I've been trying to get into safe mode, but the HP Envy 15 that I'm using doesn't seem to want to let me do that.
Why can't i put my password in the password box on windows 10 start page. Cursor won't click on box and typing my password just doesn't appear?
View 1 RepliesThe user profiles which came across with the upgrade work perfect but when I decided to create another user profile and login, I cannot click on the Start menu button as it does not work!
I have had to use the command prompt logout.
I think when windows is creating a new user profile, it is not creating all the correct files but could be wrong!
I was in my users folders & deleted them (Download, Favorites, Videos etc...)Then, i realized that my start menu which has option to "ON" to make them appear, got issue with link missing.I recreated all the forders by default with windows tools (regedit & i have all references created in reg %USERPROFILE%* & in my user folder)
So... i've tried a last attempt by, creating a new user, & create Start Menu Places & pushing the links etc but even with that, nothing done (looks like it's more for people getting grey menu on/off)HOW to retrieve the missing link from elements in start menu for :
- Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos.
All the others links are working :
- Homegroup, Network, Personal Folder, File Explorer, Settings, Power, All apps.
My son's user account displays the Windows 10 Start Menu and Cortana functions as it should. He doesn't have to log in to use his account. MY user account, which I log into with my Microsoft creds, has the "Start Menu and Cortana won't work" problem. I must right-click the icon to get the list menu view.
I thought that the whole computer was the subject of the "Start Menu won't work" problem and resigned myself to the idea that it was a hardware problem. Learning otherwise tells me that it's some kind of configuration. I have administrator rights and did the setup. Oddly, the Start Menu and Cortana functioned on my login initially, but buzzed out shortly after installation (which was immediate upon the upgrade release).
I've already done multiple iterations of sfc /scannow. The report is that there's nothing wrong.
Brand new W10 user.Or, at least trying to be a user.Every time I start up the PC, it asks for a Password, or an invitation to make a PIN.I just want it to start.I don't want or need a Password.
View 2 RepliesOk, so I am having a strange problem. In my PC's admin account, when I attempt to switch users by: Start Menu > (click user account) The start menu disappears / rolls back down. I cannot switch users this way, but this only affects my admin account. What can I do to make it work like normal?
View 1 Repliesget rid of using a password to start windows.
View 3 RepliesAfter pinning some user-installed applications to the Start Menu they looked fine. Today, all the icons that should be displayed in the buttons are gone. To determine what a given button does I have to hover over it, and the title appears in text. They still work to institute execution but are surely not the intuitive, user-friendly stuff we are suppose to applaud in W10.
Like my other problems of this nature, restart does nothing to correct the problem. And I cannot remove and reinstall the buttons since a right-click on them does absolutely nothing. All Windows provided buttons still have their icons, but right clicking on them does nothing either. I can drag-and-drop the icons around on the right side but cannot even resize them since a right-click is useless.
How to remove password from windows 10 start up screen on pc. I don't want to make my pc password protected so how to remove that password.
View 2 RepliesWhen I first installed W10, after I entered my password it would proceed to boot up without having to press Enter. For some reason it no longer does so. I have crawled through all the Settings pages but have not found how to make that work again.
View 4 RepliesAll of the previous versions of Windows that I ever set up, you were able to set auto-start with no password. Inow have Windows 10 and can't for the life of me find a way to do this. Is it not available option now in Win 10 ?
View 6 RepliesUpgraded Windows 10. Left computer overnight. Blue windows start screen with password entry. Cant type password. In the lower right corner there is a wifi, clock and shut down button. mouse pointer does nothing. I can do a hard shut down with on/off button but still comes back with the same display.
View 1 RepliesWhile try to write a path for addons such as a game, there is no user available in the folder?
View 3 RepliesOk so i am furious with Micro$oft now! the other day i was FORCED to change my microsoft account after much nagging i did so and i dont like changing logins too much. (this was a week ago)
now for some random reason on earth without my permission my windows login also changed login passwords to the microsoft account. I DONT WANT THAT! that password is too long and complicated for someone who locks his computer every 5 minutes or so. why did this just kick in now? i changed M$ account pass over a week ago and today it decides to change windows login?! can i change JUST my local windows login separate from microsoft login?
if i try to change pass from settings it it goes online and says you cant use password that has been used before.
after an update at starting, tablet laptop start gives picture/clock screen, that slides to the password screen but when password block is touched on screen or mouse clicked the screen flips back to the picture/clock ... how to deal with this kind of lock out that the typing box won't open and loops to clock screen? have turned off for an hour to see if that does it..but if not...would restarting into a repair or recovery be possible fix...i have never been able to get into safe mode without being logged in but have gotten into recovery during a restart which made me wonder if entering a recovery during boot and reversing the upgrade was possible if all else fails...
View 1 RepliesA couple of issues with W10 start menu ( - not sure if they're symptoms of the same thing. This is GA x64 W10 with all current updates installed
1) Pin to start menu doesn't pin anything to the start menu. I wanted to pin File History - R click in control panel, select Pin to Start - doesn't pin. Tested on another machine and it works there.
2) R click the Start button for the Power User menu - all I see is Network Connections - same result with Win X. Again, works as expected on another install.
how to save me doing a re-install?
Edit - SFC reports no violations.
Edit - switched to a local account on the machine and PU menu is there and working - so is this a permissions thing? My original account is admin.
I had hoped Windows 10 corrected the "rename user account" function but nope. I renamed a User Account due to conflict on the LAN [same name, same spelling] and sure enough, now I have two names for the account, one a slightly hidden original name, and permissions issues. To rid it, I will create an all new Administrator account, move everything over, and demolish the old. How to do? the docs/files are easy... the settings for apps etc are not as I recall
View 1 RepliesCan I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?
View 3 RepliesI upgraded my kids' computer to Windows 10. It had an administrator account (for me to set things) and two separate user accounts for my daughter and my son.
I made the *mistake* of logging into Chrome with my Gmail acct ID while on my Daughter's user account.
Now, it's no longer her account. It has a password (It never had a password before). And instead of her name, it's literally my gmail account name.
I need to take some time to clean out the user account settings, but she has her steam, minecraft and other settings on her account. I don't really want to trash it and make a new one.
