View 3 RepliesMost often I face this problem with my USB drive like Pendrive, Portable Harddisk, SDMMC Card etc which are not in use anywhere and does not show in Task Manager but still you cannot eject it out or get the message "safe to remove". If this situation arise how to overcome and eject the USB out safely without corrupting your contents in the USB Drives.
View 5 RepliesI installed Quicken 2016 on my SP3, but it won't open unless I "run as Administrator." There is no error message when I try to open it regularly. I am the only user and am logged on as Administrator. Quicken 2015 worked just fine. I am running build 10586.14 version 1511. Quicken support seems to think it is a Windows 10 issue.
View 1 RepliesHow do I reenable back the 'Always ask before opening this file' security popup for a .js script file? It is normally executed by Microsoft Windows Based Script Host.
While it is annoying for everytime I double-clicked it instead of right-clicking it to edit the code, disabling the security popup would mean that the script would try to run and this is not really good..
I have windows 10 and it wont automatically open this disk that plays this ancient video i have (2012)
I put it on an imac and it opened automatically and played the video perfectly.
But when i open it on my windows 10 PC i only get 2 files.
One labeled VIDEO.TS
One Labeled AUDIO.TS
audio.ts is empty but video.ts has a bunch of different files on it such as .BUPs .IFOs VOBs.
Windows 10 only recognizes the VOB files and i can only open them on movie maker. But the largest one is 978mbs and the second largest is 4600kbs
the largest file is the only one that "works" and it shows nothing but music
Now the video i am talking about it really a kind of slide show. a bunch of pictures with music thrown into the background.
How can i make this dvd bootable to the movie like it was on the iMac?
Every time im trying to open a folder on my PC Im getting this message:
"This file does not have a program associated . Please install a program or , if one is already installed , create an association in the Default Programs control panel "
The only way to open the folder is to use right mouse button click and choose open, very annoying to work like this. The only strange thing I see is that when I klick right mousebutton on top it seems windows wants to open my folder with "cmd"...
Also see JPEG below.
A file called backup.txt is trying to open every time I turn on my laptop. It never opens because there's no default application for the file, so Windows usually asks me which app I want to open it with. I chose notepad because it was a txt file, but nothing happened.
View 5 RepliesThis is a clean Windows 10 Pro 64-bit install on a home-built system (ASUS Sabertooth X99 with an i7). When attempting to open graphics files (JPG, GIF, etc) this is the error that pops up:
File System Error (-2147098360)
Where you open your jump list in File Explorer and then click on something like your Videos or Downloads Folder to have the jump list close like normal, but then nothing open? I also noticed that when I right click on the start button, I can't get any of the options on the menu to launch either.
View 9 RepliesOne thing that drives me bonkers is having a mouse pointer open any file whose name I might inadvertently hover over for a few seconds. I want files to open ONLY when I double click them. In earlier versions of Windows it was easy to turn the open on hover feature off, which I always did. However there is no option to turn it off in Windows 10 that I can find anywhere in Settings.
View 9 RepliesWhen trying to open a .DOCX file in Word 2010 I receive the following error message:
“there was an error opening the file.”
What can be causing this to happen?
Recently a change occured (after an update?). I have a folder containing only 6 shortcuts, linking to devices or to drives, connected to devices, in my home network. Opening this folder takes about 30 sec. It has to do with those shortcuts that link to drives, connected to devices, which are off.
Apparently, file explorer, when trying to present the shortcuts, also tries to get some info from those drives. After failing, file explorer nevertheless decides to present the shortcut after long waiting time. This effect has come recently in W10. In most cases, the effect is there, but in a few cases, the map is opening normally.
I do not know what happened, but I lost some file associations, such as opening .torrent files and magnetic links with utorrent and text files (.ini, .txt etc.) with Notepad++. Additionally, Start Menu and tray options, such as volume slider and wi-fi menu are not opening anymore. Settings starts, though. I already tried to apply that CSSEmerg67758.diagcab fix, but it didn't work. I can't perform a system restore as well, I get this error: ....
View 6 RepliesAt the first after I upgraded my notebook from windows 8 to windows 10, I just realize that 1 of my 3 user account is not exist anymore (the Guest account is not there just after I upgrade it into windows 10). As I tried to make the new Guest account and still didnt work (I dont want to follow such a complex email registration required by windows 10 to make a new user account), I thought to delete my secondary user account. However, I just realize that there is a file that I saved in the Desktop under my secondary user account. Is there a way to restore this desktop file that is saved in my deleted user account?
I have opened C:Users but I cant find the folder with the name of my deleted user account. It's very important yet big file (around 2 GB).
I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly. What did win10 change?
hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias
ip - works fine
hostname -works fine
alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work
I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.
Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that? When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.
Under the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to copy a ripped movie file (iso) from my G drive to desktop. The file is 45GB. It gets to 99% then a message comes up saying the process can't complete because the System has the file open. I have nothing running and can't find anything where the System is accessing/linking to this file.
I thought it might be a permissions issue, so I wanted to download the Reg edit to add a "take ownership" command but the TenFourms link is not working. Take Ownership - Add to Context Menu in Windows 10 <<<< won't open web page.
I ran sfc /scannow and there are some errors reported that could not be fixed. There is a CBS.log file but I have not looked at it yet.
I also ran the DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth (I forget the full command line now) and it came back saying it could not find the files "online".
Using Win10 Pro x64. I would like to disable windows showing .zip files in explorer as a folder...When you highlight it the contents inside the .zip are shown in the right pane view. I've scoured the net and found ways for Win7(which I did disable .zip folders on my other Win7 machine) and Vista, perhaps 8 too but I don't want to risk trying a method for older versions of windows. Any solution/reg hack or whatever to disable .zip folder?
View 5 RepliesI just installed Windows 10. Not sure if I like it, but I'm trying hard.
Problem: When I go to File Explorer, in the left panel, when I click on a folder name, the contents of that folder (both sub-folders and files) show in the right panel.
In the left panel, when I click on ">" beside a folder name, it will expand in the left panel showing the sub-folders, but not "loose files".
I could have sworn that in earlier versions of Windows the files also showed.
Is there a option setting somewhere to change this behavior and to show the files also in the left panel?
3 days ago I was exploring an older hard drive. When I tried to explore the desktop folder of that drive Windows Vista, it wouldn't open. It suggested that i shared the folder so I could explore it or copy files from that folder(which is what I originally wanted to do). When I did, the folders on any drive stopped opening. When I try to open any folder, it flashes white and returns to the desktop.
View 1 RepliesI installed W10 five weeks ago and until now all has been well.
When I turn on my laptop the"normal" picture screen opening appears showing the correct date / time.
Any action to open the log in screen or any key press results in the log on screen showing for about a half second followed by a blank screen with only the cursor arrow showing.
About a minute later the picture reappears.
When I want to open a JPG file, a list pops up to choose what program to open it. I select the one and there is an additional choice to always use the selected program automatically. I check that also. However it still pops up with the 5 or 6 program choice window when I click on a JPG file. How do I get the choice to stick?
View 1 RepliesI have been using WIndows 10 since they released it and one issue has been plaguing me since then. Whenever I leave my computer and come back after some time i will notice apps are opened sitting in my taskbar. The main apps that do it are Photo and Calendar.
I don't use those apps for either photo or calendar things and I am not even signed into Windows 10 with a MS account.
But every hour or so, these apps open up and hang out in my taskbar. I have even removed them from default apps and uninstalled what I could but no luck.
When I click on the Calendar app there's a brief flicker then nothing I cannot open it
View 2 RepliesI know this has been asked previously. I am working on a single user Toshiba laptop. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. Now none of the apps are opening. Tried the fix listed. There was a link to install bUT I cannot get to the Internet so I am unable to use the link provided. This machine came with pre-installed software so I cannot downgrade back to Windows 7.
View 1 RepliesI keep on getting this bug where it won't let me click on some tasks running on the taskbar, I am currently using Windows 10, is there any fixes? Am i the only one getting this issue?
