Option To Install Apps To SD Card Blocked?
Jul 3, 2015
In the latest builds (from 10158 to 10162) the option to install Apps in Sd card is blocked. Whether it's only for these builds or will also be blocked in the final win 10 release.

I know it's not possible to move/install metro apps on sd card in win 8.1 but i want to know if it possible in win 10 insider preview. If yes, do i have to move them manually or can i assign the sd card as default install location.

In attempting to set up Cortana, I get the requirement that location services must be turned on. That is greyed out (which makes sense on a desktop with no location capability). But it is then impossible to proceed with Cortana.

After I upgraded from Win 8.1,
1. Ashampoo programs would not find my (Conexant SmartAudio 221) sound card - Ashampoo looking into this promising a fix after diagnostics - but for weeks now.
2. Audacity would not run beyond v 2.03 (which is reported by others on their forum).
That was 32 bits.
I tried a clean install, 64 bits, and to my surprise, no problem with Ashampoo progs or Audacity 2.1.1.
I'll be using my 32 bit installation whilst I slowly configure the 64 bit version for quite a while.
Other than clean booting, and trying to identify possible conflicts, is there any more specific area I could look at? I have quite a lot of multimedia programs installed.

I have installed Windows10 on a Gateway FX530 desktop PC. All has gone well with one exception. The OS seems to recognize that there is a card reader attached, I can see them through Device manager. When I insert a SD card the system completely ignores the device and will not allow me to access it. I have tried to change the drivers, without success. This card reader worked just fine with Windows 7 Pro and there was no indication that they would not work with Windows 10 when I ran the upgrade test.

I have been creating generalized images for deployment in an enterprise scenario. In order to do so, I've installed Windows 10, booted into audit mode from the Welcome Screen, then customized Windows. After this, I can run sysprep with an unattend file (generalized mode) and upload the image to my deployment system. From there, I'm able to deploy the image to any model I choose.I've done this successfully for both Windows 7 and Windows 10. The issue I'm experiencing is with the CopyProfile option. I believe it to be not working properly for Windows 10.
If you set the value to true in the unattend file, the customization you've made (changing the desktop background, rearranging start menu tiles, editing settings) should transfer to all new user profiles after running sysprep. This works flawlessly for Windows 7. For Windows 10, it does so, but it causes the search bar and Cortana to be inaccessible. The search bar appears in the start menu, but nothing can be typed into it. By other means, you can find the Cortana/Search settings, but those can't be accessed either.
I've run several different experiments, but the only setting that causes this failure is "CopyProfile". I believe it to be broken currently for Windows 10 sysprep. Running sysprep with the same unattend file, without using "CopyProfile," creates no errors.

I'm planning to upgrade my Win7 laptop to Win10 next week and I'd like to know if there is an option for clean install (Delete all files, fresh windows settings, old windows moved to "windows.old" folder) from Windows Update or do I have to download Windows 10 Media Creation tool?

Windows 10 has a recovery option, comprising of two choices. I know the differences among them, so, yeah.
My question is: what's the difference(s) between a bootable disc and recovery?

I have set group policy to notify for update and notify for download, so when I manually check for updates, it shows any that are available, however when there are multiple updates available, there is no option to download/install an individual one, it just downloads / installs all of them?
Is there a way around this, as there is no point of the manual setting if it downloads /installs all of them at once anyway?

Just a few final comments about the free upgrade.
1. Upgrading does not allow an installation with dual boot option.
2. Windows 7 is gone after one month. If you don't like it, too bad.
3. My "legacy" Dell colour laser printer will not function with Windows 10. It works flawlessly with Windows 7 and getting a new printer gets rid of the saving plus a lot more than the savings of a free W10. I will pass on the "free" upgrade.

I was wondering i reinstalled my win 10 PC and didn't want to type password all the time on startup so typed in the run command: netplwiz as stated on some websites, this did the job/worked (no problems straight onto desktop).
Now finished most of the installs of my software but i didn't like the name windows gave my computer (system/about rename pc), so changed it to jasonpc. After this windows needed to reboot computer after changing the name,
Now get login screen (see picture 1) then if i click ok it comes up with (see picture 2 ) IE: has 2 options on bottom left hand corner Jason (jaylad33@hotmail.com - my default and Jason under that, of which i am assuming windows created it with changing name and the most likely cause of which it is stopping it from just going straight to desktop.
It is not a shared computer. In my opinion if this is my personal pc it should have option to disable security on passwords or install of OS or include in update for this option to opt out of any passwords if pc is of personal use.

So I just installed Windows 10 a day ago, and all I have to say is wow, Microsoft did great. I'm blown away by it's speed/ease of use! Anyways, when I click on Cortana, the only options that I have are to show or hide the Cortana icon, I don't have a "Show search box" context menu selection. I installed Windows 10 through the insiders program page when I installed.

recently started using Reflect, moving away from TrueImage. I'm pretty happy with it so far, except for the outlandish price (yea, I know, free version fine for most but I like to password protect my images).
I notice there's an option to put the recovery on the boot menu, reminiscent of Norton Ghost.

Apparently, I have yet another problem with Windows 10. I noticed today on my laptop that that when I right click on an application from the start menu there are options such as Pin to Start, Pin to Taskbar, Uninstall, Run as Administrator and Open File Location. However, when I right click on an application on my desktop PC, the only option I have available is Pin to Start.

Have set up a VPN server connection on my Windows 10 Pro desktop. Clients can connect to the VPN server but can't access the internet through the VPN connection.
I have the identical set up on a Windows 7 VPN server and client can connect through to the internet using that machine.
Everything seems identical in the set up, however the RAS Interface on the Win 10 shows "no internet access," where the Win 7 server does. This seems to be the issue, but can't figure out how to change the settings on the Windows 10 server to make this work...

I have been using a graphic ping plotter -Nullsoft Netmon- for many years. It has run on Windows from Vista to 8.1 without any problems. After 15+ years on a satellite provider, it has saved me many hours in tracking down slow internet access. I upgraded to windows 10 yesterday. Netmon worked for about an hour after the upgrade and then stopped while I am still getting good internet access..
I am using Viper AV and Vipre firewall. The firewall rules for ping and other ICMP packets block only Public Inbound and I have never had to change this. I have to assume that some change in Win 10 is giving me the problem. Where would I look to solve this problem?
This is an area I haven't had to deal with before and I am nervous about playing with security settings.

I remember the feature on Windows 7 where you could choose "Hide icon and notifications" which would, well, hide both the icons and notifications.I know you can easily hide the icon for non-Modern/Metro programs by just dragging it to the area inside the ^ icon. I've done that for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but yet if it blocks something I still get a nagging notification saying it did so.
For the time being, I've just turned notifications off inside of MBAM as it gives that option... but not every program lets you do that. A lot just force the notifications on you. When I look in Settings, it says "no apps have requested notifications yet" because I assume that only applies to Metro/Modern apps. Other programs sort-of have their own way of doing it.
Or WILL they for sure show up in Settings if they use the "normal" Windows notification method? MBAM does its notifications differently from most, but I remember that in Windows 7 I COULD get rid of them just by choosing "hide icon and notifications" from the Windows options.
