View 3 RepliesAlright so for some reason ever since I've "upgraded" to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 I've been having numerous issues with my computer taking a very long time to boot and I've noticed it is logging me in sometimes without asking me for my password at boot. I really want to stop the black screens as waiting 5-10 minutes every time I turn my computer on is annoying. Also I don't see why it would log me in without prompting for my password as why else would I have a logon password?
View 4 RepliesMy main bug annoyance is when starting a new email, the first letter isn't auto cap.
View 2 RepliesIn Outlook, I rely on the auto fill when typing an email address. usually, the name fills in after typing one or two letters. Since upgrading to windows 10, this feature no longer works. Although the list of correct email addresses appears, when I click on it, it no longer fills in the name and I have to completely retype the email address.
View 1 RepliesI Have 3 computers in my office and i want to connect them to RDP with auto after the turn on.
the idea to not allow my workers to use the computer and work only with RDP.
How can I update my time automatically each morning before the stock market opens. My PC loses a couple minutes a day and I need to be synced with the market. I see it updates weekly, but by Tues I'm out of step.
View 3 RepliesMy system upgrade to windows 10 from 7. But my system encounter a auto login last active user problem.
View 2 RepliesI had win10 set for auto login, but after updates(I think) now requires for a login password? I reset auto login but reverts back.
View 1 RepliesI use "netplwiz" to set auto login feature. But i found that if i use local account, it works well, but if i use Microsoft account to log in windows 10, it will still ask me for passwords when waking up from sleeping mode or power on.
View 8 RepliesAt the moment I have a Local login and I am considering changing to a Microsoft login. If I do, does this mean that when my PC starts from a boot, that instead of the pin that I use to login to my account on the PC, I will be asked to login with both my Microsoft account username and password? If I make a mistake will I be locked out of my PC?
View 3 RepliesThen I used that to connect the onedrive. Then when I rebooted, I realised I had forgotten to write down the password. This means I cannot log into windows with my user id. I've tried calling, and the automated password reset website, but because I hadn't actually sent any emails or created any folders, I cannot recover my login. I'm losing 5 years of personal pictures, wedding pictures, music, podcasts, books... it is terrible and I haven't been able to sleep since I did it.
View 6 RepliesNew to PCs in general. Bit of back info - built a PC a month ago. Have had a few set backs with drivers and BIOS update, but it seems everything is stable for now.
I signed into my Xbox Live account about a week ago, which is linked to my hotmail/outlook account Ive had for ages. This automatically linked to my PC user account I have on this PC. I found out by rebooting, login screen shows my name as usual, but now underneath shows my email. It also changed my login password to my outlook password. Is this something to be concerned about? I can still login fine, but been nagging me because Ive never had a login password automatically switch on me before.
Im pretty tech savy, but this one is boggling my mind.
Wifi dongle I'm using is this a DLink DWA-140
Router is using WPA2-PSK
Background info: I connect to the internet through my ISP's supplied router, i've set it up with my own SSID and my own password, it works perfectly fine with my android phone, my GF's iPhone, my tablet, my laptop, her laptop, her iPad.. but not with my PC running windows 10.The problem: When i boot, it doesn't always automatically reconnect to my wifi, despite having it checked as "connect automatically". My wifi dongle can see every other wifi network within 20 miles, EXCEPT my own wifi. Go figure?!
In order to get it to connect i have to hit "Connect to Hidden network", type in SSID, type in the password, which windows will prompt me is incorrect, hit cancel, wait a second, and BAM it connects to my wifi.
Things I've tried:
Open search, type "services.msc" open services.Scroll down to "wlan auto config" right click, stop the service.Navigate to "C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWlansvc delete everything in this folder leaving only a folder called "profiles" delete everything in the "profiles" folder except for a folder called "interfaces" delete everything in the "interfaces" folder)Restart "wlan auto config" connect to your wireless network, enter your passkey, (ensure the connect automaticly box is checked)Restart your computer job done, your computer will now connect to your wireless network automaticly on boot.>failed.
Hiding my SSID, and un-hiding it in router config, that worked for a couple of weeks, but now the problem is back. Have tried this solution again..failed.
Uninstalled the wifi dongle in device manager..failed.
Running the router as configured by my ISP.failed.
As of late, I no longer have my email program auto-start at boot-up.
Also I have never been able to solve the problem of no left click function on the Task Bar and no right click function on the Start button.
I upgraded to Windows 10. I didn't like it. I reverted back to 8.1. Now, every time I turn my laptop on, the Windows Update screen pops up and starts installing Windows 10. I have changed auto update settings to ask me first, but to no avail. I even selected DO NOT check for updates, to no avail. How do I get this to stop?
View 1 RepliesI have a home server, and I have multiple users to able to have multiple private folders. So, let's say I have my own user and my partners user and a server user.
I have some applications that I want to run on startup, and so does the server user. My partner has access to a folder, and the server has access to some folders and so do I. But I need to run some software that can only interact with my folders. This software also doesn't run as a service, and I've tried a bunch of workarounds but they don't work with this piece of software due to other issues.
So, what I'd like to do is, upon boot, have multiple users load their designated apps upon startup. Is that possible? Can I have Windows 10 log in to multiple users upon startup to have their respective applications load and run?
I have just used the SHIFT-Restart option to activate the Windows 10 Troubleshooting and tried to open a command prompt. It asked for a password. I entered my password but was told it was incorrect.
I booted normally using the PIN I normally use, and went through Settings | Accounts | Sign-in options | Change to change my password. In the 'Old password' box I used the same password that had just failed to get me into the boot command prompt and it allowed me to change the password. It said I had successfully changed my password.
If I use SHIFT-Restart again, I still cannot get into the command prompt using the new password.
Am I dealing with two separate passwords here? If so, how do I change the one associated with the boot command prompt?
Note that when trying to boot to the command prompt, the displayed use name appears to be correct - i.e. it is the same one listed when I use my PIN to boot normally.
Asked my daughter to start my laptop. She said "The mouse isn't working," then we were hit with a BSOD. Hoping it's a one off, but just in case...
View 2 RepliesSo I started my pc today and my window search didn't work anymore, just blank no results and everything felt very slow. so i restarted into safe mode without network and now it restarted asking for my windows login which is linked to my email. But i have no network so its not logging in. i have tried f8 when restarting but don't get any options to choose which boot mode you want as you could in windows 7.
I am trying to create usb windows 10 recover/install on my other laptop but its failing.
I have a dual boot system in the following configuration:
HDD-0 = Win7 OS, HDD-1 = Win7 OS, WinXP OS. I have successfully booted into each of these operating systems - and the Win7 OS on HDD-1 is an exact clone of the primary OS on HDD-0.
I just upgraded the Win7 OS on HDD-0 to Windows 10 using the "Get Windows 10" process. I now get the new blue Boot Manger screen with all three OS's listed and I can successfully boot into Windows 10 and Windows XP. But I cannot boot into the Win7 OS on HDD-1 (which I could before the Windows 10 upgrade). How the upgrade even knew about the other copy of Windows 7, since it was not active and lives on another HDD is beyond me.
One strange thing - if I do a cold startup (power on) I get the new Boot Manger screen. But if I do a Restart from Windows 10, I get the old, black & white boot manger screen - and it does list all three OS's correctly, too.
The error message I get when trying to open (boot) the Windows 7 OS is: "LogonUI.exc - Entry point not found. RtlReleasePath could not be located in the ntdll.dll" And, like others, I now get the black screen with "Windows 7, Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine (but it was yesterday before the Windows 10 upgrade on the other HDD).
And like others, I can start the Crtl+Alt+Del to get the screen with users, Task Manger, etc. And, I can run all my applications by manually starting them in a New Task and browsing to the exe file - like Firefox.exe or Word.exe So, it looks like Windows 7 started and may be running. I just can't get into it.
I think both issues, the LogOn and the "Not Genuine" are both related to the Entry Point no located in the ntdll.dll.
At this point I really don't want to reload Windows 7 since it appears to be running and all the apps can be run manually.
All this happened after the upgrade of the other Win7 on HDD-0.
I just upgraded from windows 7 sp2 to Windows 10.. MS makes me log in with a password. I don't have sensitive information. No one but me uses the computer. Someone suggested a program to run so that when I reboot, I don't have to sign in. That works okay, but now the damn thing falls asleep, and I STILL have to sign in with a password.
So, I figured I'd get around that by extending the auto sleep time, but I can't figure out how to do that.
I can make default either speaker or headphone for listening sound. In windows 8.1, I used to get a message whenever I insert headphone, Whether headphone or mic as my socket is integrated for mic or headphone. If I select headphone, I can listen to sound. How to get it back. My machine is ASUS S400CA with VIA drivers.
View 1 RepliesI've tried everything I've read but nothing will make my PC sleep. It worked fine with Windows 8.1 but since 10 it doesn't matter what I change, the only way to make the PC sleep is to do it manually.
Here are some of the steps I've followed with no success:
- powercfg /requests shows nothing
- powercfg /energy doesn't show anything interesting
- no media sharing is enabled
- homegroup is disabled
- disabling NIC has no effect
- removing everything from the PC other than power and HDMI for video has no effect
- everything but my mouse is set not to wake pc (I have also tried with the mouse also set to no avail)
- updated drivers where possible
The weird thing is if I don't log onto the PC from a reboot, it will sleep just fine - the minute I log on it refuses to auto sleep. Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, the sleep works just fine again.
It's combined with the auto setting for windows update (despite having disable wake timers selected) the PC will sometimes wake in the middle of the night and stay on until I sleep it again.
Recently my PC has begun shutting down on its own, at about the same time daily. I have seen this problem both before my upgrade to Windows 10 (from Win 7) and after. I have looked but cannot find any task commands set...
View 3 RepliesA few months back I set up my windows to turn off at 1am each morning incase i left it on all night. Problem is i now need to have the pc on during this time (plex server). How to remove the auto turn off?
View 1 RepliesOne night I left my computer on and Windows 10 downloaded and upgraded for literally no reason, and it is without a doubt the most unusable operating system I have ever had installed on my PC. After only a day everything has broken (I must go into task manager to start any app, can't open start menu, horrible FPS in games even with my GTX 970).
Anyway, I don't have a disk or anything for Windows 7 as it was preinstalled on my PC. The option to downgrade in "Recovery" just simply isn't there.
