BSOD :: 30 Seconds After Bootup

Aug 27, 2015

I recently updated my HP to Windows 10. During setup after I logged in, I got the BSOD. I thought there was nothing wrong until I logged in and found out that I didn't have Start Menu access. About 10 seconds later, the BSOD came up again. Now every time I log in, about 10 to 30 seconds after login, I get the BSOD.

BSOD :: Black Screen And WAIT During Bootup

Aug 30, 2015

For two years I have had three hard drives installed. One small one went bad and at bootup I would get that information with "Press F1 to resume" which I would do and then windows would load. I upgraded to windows 10 from 7 three weeks ago, same message, and no problem, as it would still go right into windows. Last week I noticed windows update had a list of important updates. I believe I also had an nvideo GeForce driver update which I am sure I did first without problems.

When I did the windows updates and had to restart, I noticed I had a slightly different look but it still took me to the same press F1 to resume. However, the result was it went to a totally black screen with a tiny band of the new windows blue across the top and in the middle of the screen it said WAIT, not in windows type but in the same script when you first begin booting computer. It just remained there and there was no activity taking place, no blinking red light or solid red light like my computer always does.

After at least 20 minutes of no activity I rebooted with the same result. Repeating the F1 kept giving the same result, and further reboots and then the F1 caused the computer to reboot maybe 2 out of 5 tries instead of directly going to the black screen. At one point I quickly saw something where I believe it askd to press tab or possibly delete and then gave an option to press F1 or F2. I am not sure which I pressed but it did go into windows and everything was fine for the rest of the day. I let my computer on but at some point overnight it had rebooted and back to the press F1 to resume which results in back to the black screen WAIT and this is where I am at again (I am using a different computer to send this).

BSOD :: Critical Error Event ID 41 After Every Shutdown And Bootup

Aug 29, 2015

Prior to upgrading to Windows 10, my system was running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. When running my previous OS (WIN 7) I rarely had errors listed in Event Viewer. Now after upgrading to Windows 10, I get errors/warnings I never used to get under Windows 7.

The error is of the "Critical" level in Event Viewer.

After doing a normal shutdown, and then booting my system, I check Event Viewer and always find the following critical error:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

---------------------- START: Event Viewer XML error text ---------------------

- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power" Guid="{331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4}" />
<EventID>41</EventID>
<Version>3</Version>

[Code] ....

I never used to get this error after doing a normal shutdown (prior to upgrade to Windows 10, when I was on Windows 7). Now it happens all the time. Why this error is occurring after doing a normal shutdown followed by a boot?

I suspect it's a glitch with the first production release of Windows 10, but I have no proof of that. My system runs fine, yet I get the above error (and a number of other errors) since I upgraded to Windows 10.

BSOD :: Kernel Security Fail Check

Sep 8, 2015

I'm not trying to be curt, but I have about 2 minutes until this thing crashes. I have an old Dell, a new, clean Windows 10 Install and an intermittent and annoying problem. 3 hours is probably the longest the machine has run without a BSOD. I get a 5 hour loop at least once a week on startup. I'm at my wits end.

Installation :: Alternate Boot Drive Fail After Upgrade To Inspiron 580?

Mar 12, 2016

After upgrade Dell Inspiron 580 to win 10 the system boot option F12 seems disabled and the box will not boot from the alternate drives (cd then USB) enabled on the motherboard. F2 still brings up the system motherboard edit.

The failure to boot from cd defeats my drive imaging backup software.

I am unable to find a secure boot option on the motherboard, so I suspect the issue is something else.

Logon Process Initialization Failure (occasionally While Logging Off)

Aug 25, 2015

I get the message: "Interactive logon Initialization process has failed." This occurs only once in a while, while login off from a user. I get a black screen with a dialogue box with the message and an OK button. I can't click the OK button and need to do a reset because the computer is frozen.

In the event log I get the following message: ID4005: Logon process from Windows has suddenly ended. (translation from Dutch). Also, a refresh doesn't work. I did a full fresh re-install of windows 10 but the problem remains. Maybe a certain program I'm running?

Bootup Takes Two Tries

Oct 12, 2014

I have a strange anomaly with my HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Entertainment Notebook that had Windows 8.1installed. When I started bootup, it got so far and froze up. I had to do a hard shutdown. On the second try, the laptop starts, but takes an inordinately long time to get to the lock screen.

I thought that when I installed my 240 GB SSD drive and installed Windows 10 that the anomaly would be gone, but it's still happening.

If I shut down, I have to go through the two bootup tries again.

Black Screen During Bootup

Oct 22, 2015

During boot up I get a black screen for about 1 min then the login for my account. I notice a lot of hard drive activity during the black screen. I'm using amd-catalyst-15.10beta-64bit-win10-win8.1-win7-oct12.exe (latest one).

Win 10 works fine except for the black screen. I've had this black screen since day one but it seems to be longer.
I have tried AMD 15.7.1 driver.

I don't have an on board graphics.

I'm almost thinking of grabbing another hard drive and do a clean install and see if that fixes it.

Networking :: No Internet For 30 / 60 Seconds After Bootup

Nov 6, 2015

I've had this issue for a while and haven't really bothered to do anything about it till now. Since I upgrade to Win10 some months ago, I've noticed that every time I start or reboot my PC my internet connection dissappears after the first 5-10 seconds and then returns some ~60 seconds later. The loss of connectivity is not displayed in the Network sys_tray nor will Chrome/Edge tell me I do not have a connection. What happens instead is that the browser tabs take a very long time to load until they all suddenly load at once. Services like steam connect on start up, but then I go into offline mode as soon as I "lose the connection".

I'm not using WiFi and have not changed any hardware since upgrading to Win10. My suspicion is that I'm able to receive packages, but my outgoing packages are being, somehow, blocked. I am using zonealarm but have also tried with it uninstalled.

Start Menu Opens On Bootup

Nov 8, 2015

Sometime over the last month or so, every time fire-up my laptop, the start menu is open. I can click anywhere outside it and it will close, and does behave normally. It's more annoying than trouble. I don't consider myself a noob, but this is perplexing as I cannot find a setting to start up the OS without the start menu being open. Maybe a reg hack?

My assumption is MS did this in some recent update trying to introduce me to their new way of thinking. I only think this as after I upgraded to 10, I deleted all the tiles in the start menu that I didn't want. One day about a month ago, more came back. I figured it was MS trying to sell me on tiles, yet again.

Black Screen During Bootup With Exception

Aug 1, 2015

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 with MAJOR hassles (BSOD, black screens, freezes, unresponsiveness, etc), so I decided to do a clean install. But during the install, it hanged at the black screen after "getting devices ready." I did a cold boot and got a black screen. The display didn't get a signal since the monitor light stays yellow instead of turning green.

I disconnected the power cord and held the power button down for a few seconds (some discharge static electricity method I found on the web), and reconnected the power cord, and it boot up fine into the Windows setup menu and set up everything fine. After downloading some programs and stuff, I turned off my PC off and booted it up, and I get this same black screen issue. Weird thing is, if I do the same method of holding the power button down and stuff, it boots up fine to the login menu and desktop.

What I've read or something, I should remove the CMOS battery or something, or upgrade the BIOS, etc.

Accounts :: User Account On Bootup Of Computer

Feb 2, 2016

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. My wife and I use the same computer at home and each have a user account.

On Windows 7, when the computer started, the first screen we would see is both user accounts and select the appropriate one. Windows 10 (as many of you already know) seems to go directly to the user account that was on at shutdown. Is there any setting I could make to offer the choice of both user accounts each time on boot up?

No BIOS At Bootup - PC Only Shows Mobile Display

Oct 4, 2015

These are my PC Specs:
CPU: 5960X
Mobo: ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME
GPU: GTX 980
RAM: 16GB 2800 XMP

I booted up my PC and not only did it not display the BIOS, but the post beep did not sound. I hear another beep normally, but I think that's related to an overclocking error when applying the XMP profile for my RAM. When my computer gets into Windows 10, my resolution is a 640x480 and it doesn't display my GPU, instead it displays a mobile PC display. How did this happen? I have a 27" monitor at 60 hz. It literally changed overnight, and I can't seem to find System Restore. I don't think I'm automatically booted into safe mode.

No Proper Bootup On Cold Start Up - Can't Detect Computer

Aug 7, 2015

Whenever I shut down my computer, I always have this problem. The Windows 10 insignia and the loading circle beneath will appear, then the screen will fade to black, and then my monitor says it can't detect my computer. I then have to unplug my computer from the outlet because I can't shut it down by pressing the power button. When I start it up again afterwards, it will start perfectly fine. And whenever I try to change the boot configurations, it automatically resets itself to the previous version.

Performance :: Via Bootup Screen Unable To Choose Which Services Startup

Feb 10, 2016

It seems Microsoft has eliminated a feature I once used prolifically: Hardware Profiles. Windows-10 does have a "hardware profile", but it is nothing like what was in XP (or in Win-7, as I understand it). I want to know if there is an alternative in Windows-10 that allows me to control which Services are enabled or disabled from one session to the next, based on the currently selected profile (XP also had User Profile, but that's a different beast, and that still seems to exist in Win-10).

In the older O/S'es (XP, 2ooo, and NT for sure), you could set up multiple "hardware profiles" (silly name because it related as much to controlling Services as it did to controlling Devices). You give each profile a name, and set which one is the default startup if you let the screen time out. This is like the timeout in a multi-boot menu, and it's a menu that comes up right after the O/S menu if you are multi-booted. If you're single boot, it comes up at that same moment in the boot process.

Then, in the properties dialog for an individual Service, in the Logon tab (if I recall correctly, or maybe it was a "Startup" tab), those profile names you made will show up as a list allowing you to set enable at bootup or disable at bootup for each profile in that list.

Explorer - Thumbnails For JPG Fail If Over 10MB

Nov 12, 2015

Recently windows started having a problem displaying thumbnails for JPGs. If I load a folder of images it shows them all for a moment, then swiftly changes loads of them to white blanks.

A bit more investigating and I realise it's only for image files over 10MB. I'm a photographer, so looking at images litterally all day, so it's quite an annoyance! Or course I use other software for sorting, organising, resizing etc, but plenty of times you just want to load a folder and see the images.

Here's a screengrab, sorting a folder by size, anything larger than 10MB is a white blank icon:

Startup Fail After Reverting To Windows 7?

Sep 20, 2015

I downloaded windows 10 from Microsoft windows website and I installed it but I thought of reverting back to windows 7 and so I did. The windows 7 boot up logo showed up but got stuck in between the boot logo. then the windows startup fixing program would be recommended for me and I did it but failed to fix the boot up error. and i cant even start windows from the safe mode as well. So what do i do to bring back windows 7 back up. and which one windows is good 7 or 8 or 8.1 and sure that i wouldn't wanna go back to 10. so how do i start up windows again?? Yeah i guess i will have to make a bootable USB or DVD drive. I would like to go for usb but not sure how to create one bootable usb drive.

Installation :: Fail To Boot - Error 0xc0000359

Aug 12, 2015

I upgraded ok with the update and successfully activated windows 10. I downloaded both 32bit and 64bit to usb using media creation tool as I wanted to clean install Windows 10 64bit on my 64bit compatible machine although am currently running 32bit windows 7 as that's what I had to hand when I built the PC. If I attempt to boot 32bit from usb it returns the error winload.efi missing. If I attempt to boot the 64bit version it just returns to windows boot manager.

Frustrated, I opted for the "reset this PC" function in settings instead as an alternative to the clean install and the reset failed, hung, then returned to the screen "what would you like to do". Once I selected "turn off PC" and it restarted and automatically continued the reset only to fail a second time. This time I choose to "return to windows 10" but it just hung. I had to rollback to windows 7 with repair dvd.

With windows 7 now installed again, I still cannot boot from either the 32 or 64 bit option in windows boot manager when I select to boot from the USB.It either returns to the boot manager or returns the winload.efi missing error.I have tried changing settings in bios to disable secure boot and fast boot but it makes no difference. I've read the Andre da Costa (sp?) wiki steps along with countless other how-to-clean-install windows 10 guides.
