PC Performance Loss After NVIDIA Driver Update

Aug 18, 2015

General decrease in PC performance. So yesterday I updated my NVIDIA drivers from GeForce Experience (driver version 355.60) and ever since that my PC's performance has dropped considerably. Things are generally slower, but it is most most noticeable in games.

before the driver update I would get solid 60+ FPS in Battlefield 4 at Ultra settings, but now the average is 30-40 FPS on medium settings. Same situation for all my other games. I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, and installing an older driver to no avail.

PC SPECS:
Strix GTX 970
AMD FX-8350
8GB RAM
600 WATT PSU

Nothing has been overclocked.

Nvidia Driver Keeps Disappearing

Aug 24, 2015

Specs: Windows 10, GTX 780, 4670k, Samsung 250gb SSD, 16gb RAM

The other day I was trying to downgrade my Nvidia driver to 353 because I was trying to play a video game in a stretched 4:3 resolution but apparently with the latest windows 10 drivers theres some kind of issue and it was impossible to get it to stretch.I went into device manager and right clicked uninstall on my GPU under display adapters, I think this may be where the problem occured. I was trying to uninstall the driver so I could fresh install the old one. After I did that uninstall I installed the 353.30 64 bit windows 10 driver that I downloaded from the nvidia website.

Everything worked fine but after a few hours the driver somehow stopped working, my second monitor turned off, I no longer have nvidia control panel, etc. I reinstalled the driver and again everything was fine for a while until it disappeared again.

Nvidia Driver Blue Screen?

Jan 10, 2016

So I'm on Windows 10 Pro, and a while back before I reset Windows and am where I am now, anything Minecraft related would crash as soon as it finished loading. So I'd open up a modpack or just plain Minecraft and as soon as it got to the title screen, boom, blue screen (Page fault in non paged area) so I looked everywhere for answers but none of them worked. Ultimately I just reset my PC (while keeping files if it makes a difference). So after installing my programs again Minecraft was no longer an issue, it worked as expected. Fast forward to today.

I open up Nvidia Geforce Experience to use Shadowplay, I click on Shadowplay, flip the on switch, and when I click the "Allow Desktop Capture" button, Bam same exact blue screen as before. I have tested both my RAM and SSD (windows memtest and Samsung magician's test for my 850 Evo) I don't know what is causing it anymore, I could test and see if the bluescreen occurs while on my integrated graphics or something. (Not sure if Geforce Experience would even open without my card though.

System Specs:
CPU: 4790K
GPU: Msi GTX 970 4G
PSU: Evga 650 watt supernova
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866Mhz
SSD: 250GB Samsung 850 Evo

BSOD :: NVIDIA Driver Causes System Instability In Lenovo Y510P?

Jan 9, 2016

I am currently running the 358.50 version of GeForce drivers, however there are newer ones available (361.43). For some reason when I tried updating, my system got really unstable and eventually blue screened with KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. When I rebooted it was fine, until I tried to use a graphics intensive application (Photoshop) that caused my laptop to switch from Intel HD to NVidia. My computer locked up and crashed again. I booted into safe mode and rolled back the driver, but I need to install that driver eventually as I use this laptop for gaming and Photoshop.Maybe another driver needs to be updated?

BSOD :: Freeze Crash And Nvidia Driver Stopped Responding

Dec 28, 2015

I recently did a clean install to get Windows 10, but I'm getting two issues atm. The major one is a freeze crash where the computer will freeze, and the have the audio go really slow, robotic or at other times it will stutter/repeat. Sometimes the screen will also go black. It started happening around once per a day after I installed Windows 10. The only way to get out of it is to restart the computer, but when I restart it, the computer doesn't get past the windows loading screen. But on the 2nd restart after manually pressing the power button, it finally goes back to normal and boots up properly. It's happened around 4-5 times already since I installed Windows 10 a week ago.

The second issue might be related but around once a day, my screen turns black and I get a notification that Nvidia driver (model #) has stopped responding and has recovered. It's really quick and lasts only 3-5 seconds, so its not that annoying. This is a issue that I've had for a while even back in Windows 7. I always update the drivers for the GTX 660 Ti using Geforce Experience from Nvidia, but it never solves the issue.

I did get 1-2 BSODs since installing Windows 10, but I'm not sure if they are related. In the dump file, there is information that says the BSOD error is a "VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR (199)" with the driver reporting a invalid fence ID. I looked it up online and I tried a solution, but it didn't work. I'm a bit stuck on what to do next. I also forgot to mention that if I press the sleep key on my keyboard and later awake from it, windows tends to slowly crash and eventually BSOD. By slowly, I mean that the taskbar starts to disappear as well as the start menu, but I can still use my programs such as Chrome to a limited degree, which is quite weird.

Updating Nvidia Driver Computer Rebooted Itself Then It Stopped Working

Mar 7, 2016

So, I was updating the graphics driver, and the computer rebooted itself, when it turned back on all I saw was my chosen accent color in the frame of my main monitor (I have 3). I then turned off the computer, removed the card, and plugged one of my displays into the MOBO. The PC booted just fine, and ran normally. I turned off the PC, and put back in the graphics card and booted back up, I got the same thing. I'd been meaning to do a system refresh, so I chose then to do that. I did the refresh, and now whenever I have the card in the PC, I get stuck at the HP Boot screen (not letting me enter the BIOS) and the PC beeps once, then not again. I turn off the PC, remove the card, and Windows runs perfectly.

Nvidia Driver Crashes / Then PC Restarts And Get Critical Kernel-Power

Oct 27, 2015

I have been getting these nvidia driver crashes, where the monitor turns off by itself and then recovers and I can continue using it normally, but lately the drivers just crash and a few moments after, the PC reboots on its own but fails to turn on the monitor, which forces me to do a manual reboot. After the manual reboot, I go to Event Viewer and find these errors: Critical, Event ID 41, Source Kernel-Power. Error, Event ID 3, Source Kernel-EventTracing.

Graphic Cards :: NVIDIA Driver Crashes And Recovers During Both General Use And Video

Nov 22, 2015

I am running Windows 10 with the Insider Program. It's the 64 bit version. I have the latest (just checked) NVIDIA driver for my GTX 560 Ti.

In the last few days I've experienced a problem in which the graphics driver crashes and then recovers after a few seconds. When it crashes, the screen goes black, as if there's no signal. Then it goes back on, but if I was playing a video when it crashed, the media player (MPC-HC) needs to be restarted, otherwise playback cannot be resumed.

It also happens during general use, ie web browsing and such, though it certainly is more frequent when playing back videos. I'd say 80% of the crashes occur during video playback. And when that happens, in addition to the black screen, the GPU's fan goes full power until the driver is restored.

Since NVIDIA hasn't released a new Windows 10 driver since July, is it safe to say that it's a hardware and not a software issue?

Drivers :: Display Driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Drive Stopping

Dec 8, 2015

I'm having this issue for a few months already. But today I probably made it even worse.

Here is what happens:Until yesterday I had Windows 8.1, and sometimes (One day every 1 or 2 months) I would get a BSOD when trying to play some games. I would get an error on the BSOD saying: "Your PC ran into a problem and needs restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you."... "If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE(nvlddmkm.sys)"

After that BSOD, my PC would restart. And then I would not be able to start any game. The screen would froze, the game would close, and I'd get the following error: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 350.12 stopped responding and has successfully recovered".

By that point I would not be able to play anything else. After getting that problem for the first time (A lot of months ago), I discovered that the only way to "fix" it was to do a System restore to a few days back. By doing that, everything would go back to normal for a few weeks, maybe a month... and then it would happen again (BSOD, followed by restart, followed by games not opening, followed by a system restore...)

Well.. today I experienced the same thing.. BSOD.. restart.. error... tried to do a system restore, and this time it didn't work... So I decided to try something different and updated my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, hoping it would fix everything..As soon as Windows finished upgrading, I got a BSOD, a restart, and after that I can't open any games... Now I get the same message as before, but with a different driver version (When windows upgraded, it installed the most updated driver I believe)... I had an old version on windows 8.1 because that fixed the problem a few months back...

Well.. right now I'm experiencing the error: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 353.54 stopped responding and has successfully recovered".And since I just upgraded to windows 10, I can't really do a System Restore anymore...

Disable Update Of Driver?

Jan 29, 2016

For some reason, the Intel HD Graphics driver which is included in Win10 for my notebook crashes continuously.I downloaded the driver from the intel site and that one works perfectly fine.

Problem is, Win10 updates this driver (all the time) to the one from Windows update ... and then the driver starts crashing again.

I did already set the 'Device Installation Setitings' for manufacturers apps (in advanced system settings) to No, but that doesn't work.

The only thing that works is setting the WLAN to metered connection, but that prevents all updates.

how I can have Win10Pro stop updating this driver? (Win10 Pro)
