PC Reboots Itself
Aug 17, 2015
Ever since I've upgraded to Windows 10, my computer randomly reboots (from hibernation mode). Once it was exactly at 3:00 AM, the other were random times. The spookiest of all times was when it randomly booted, I shut it down, and then it booted again five minutes later - two times in a row. I took a look into the Event Viewer, and the first events are as follows (I have to freely translate as I haven't been able to make my German Windows display the events in English):
- System time was synchronized with the hardware clock
- The firmware has sent start metrics
- In this system there are 0x1 start options
- The start manager waited 0ms for a user input
- The guideline for the start menu is "0xFEC00000"
- The start type was "0x2"
- The system got reactivated from standby. ... [some timestamps] ... Reactivation source: unknown
This has happened more than once (although I can't say for sure that this was always the reason for the unprompted reboot).
I know there are some options to prevent Windows from rebooting, but firstly I'd like to establish the causes as I'm kind of unsettled right now....

My Windows 10 installation does not boot anymore, the PC reboots while it's booting up. I have tried every advanced options available (safe mode, low resolution video...) to no avail. I tried enabling the bootlog but I cannot find the log file when I eventually browse the disk from my windows 7 OS.
I'd like to restore the installation rather than reinstalling it. The build was not the very last one but the preceding one, so not so old.

Once every day after first start up my pc decides to reboot, and it seems to be quite random at which time it reboots. Can be just when I enter windows or after 20 minutes. Then the power goes back on for a sec and it tries to start but then in an instant reboots again and then it runs fine for the rest of the day. I have not done extensive testing on different components and since I dont get a BSOD I dont really know where to start and since it only happens once a day I can only test one solution every day .

After an update, my win 10 machine will boot to a generic setup, it loses my software, settings, etc. If I reboot a couple of times or shut down and reboot, everything show back up and it runs fine.

I have an Asus Ultrabook, UX302L. It came with windows 8 from the factory, I upgraded it to windows 10, all nice and wonderful. About a month ago, I replaced my HDD with an Samsung 850 Evo SSD and I installed a clean copy of Windows 10 which I activated with my windows 8 key. All good till here. But after that my nightmare started:
I can't put my laptop to sleep, because when I try to wake it up it restarts instead, and I lose all my documents, programs started before, etc.
I tried to install a older Intel Management Engine because I found out that the last one is buggy (and it is, I can't even put my computer to hubernate with it, the fans just keep running till it drains my battery, but with the IME 9ish at least hibernation work), I tried to disable fast boot, to install an older version of the integrated intel graphics card driver, tried to put my HDD's to never sleep, disabled hybrid sleep, set the AHCI link power management to HIMP/DIMP, etc.....

A number of Windows 10 users have various shutdown-related issues. The most common issue is that their PC reboots instead of shutting down. When they click shut down in the Start menu, Windows 10 doesn't shutdown, but instead restarts. Here is what you can do to avoid this issue.
Actually, it is hard to tell what is the exact cause of such behavior, because the reason can be different from PC to PC, but in this article we will explore some solutions which can be useful if you are facing this problem of your PC rebooting instead of doing a shut down with Windows 10.
1.The first thing you have to try is a clean boot. Using a clean boot, you can find if the OS is damaged by some third party app or a bad driver. By preventing them from loading, you can exclude the influence of these two factors.

First off my windows 10 install worked fine for about a month and then all of a sudden I have been experiencing 2 to 3 ramdom crashes and reboots. There is no BSOD, the computer just simply turns off and reboots, even though I have set the advanced settings not to automatically shut down on error. I have also updated to the latest BIOS ....
My system - self build.
Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard
4 sticks of Corsiar dominator RAM running at 2133 (they are specified up to 2666)
default BIOS settings - no overclocking
2*EVGA Geforce 980s in SLI
I have disconnected all usb devices but this is still happening. What is strange that it just started out of the blue. Before i just do a fresh install, any diagnostic approaches?

Every time I switch on my PC I get to the loading Windows screen and then my PC reboots, it only does this once and on second boot it boots into Windows fine, even tried a fresh install on Windows and it's still the same, can't see anything in the event log only this.
The last shutdown's success status was false. The last boot's success status was false. All drives are up to date, PC running fine with no issues apart from the above, I don't use sleep or hibernate and power to the PC is switched off from the mains.

Wondering if this is possible on Windows 10, Not delay, to DISABLE AUTO reboots when a user is logged in ?
When I am done doing someone on my PC, I just kind of walk away, it goes to sleep, the monitor shuts off after about 25 min, so I just hit the space bar and I am back to where I was. This is always how I have used my computers at home and I need to continue to this way. I DONT want to hear, SAFE YOU FILES, CLOSE your Programs, etc, That is how YOU USE YOU computer, not mine.
So after installing Windows 10, it just takes it on it's own, no setting I have found to disable it, I am ok, with Windows yelling at me "reboot me !!!" ever few hours but, taking it on it's own to reboot over night is a problem.
2 times now I have lost something that was open, One was a game I had minimized that I forgot about before I went to bed and lost my progress.

So a few days ago I installed Windows Vista after Windows 7 wouldn't work and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Vista worked fine, but after a day I somehow managed to shut off the pc while it was updating. I thought it wouldn't be that bad, but it was. When I booted Vista, it would show the normal loading screen and after that the screen would go black for 1 minute. Then the pc reboots itself.
I thought I could fix this by putting Windows 10 on a cd and installing it, but it didn't. At first I got an error from my monitor saying that Windows' resolution was too high for my monitor (my monitor's max is 1024x1080) so I went into safe mode and changed it.
I thought it would finally work, but again it didn't. It showed the same error from Vista; normal Windows 10 loading screen, goes black, reboots.

My basic specs:
CPU - 5960X
MOBO: ASUS Rampage V Extreme
GPU: GTX 980
I turn my computer on, see the BIOS just fine, it shows the Windows 10 logo, then a black screen. If I move my mouse around, I see the cursor. After nearly 30 seconds (i'm guessing), my computer reboots itself, and the cycle repeats.
My motherboard is kind of funky. By pressing F8, it actually goes into a BIOS menu that allows me to select which device I want to boot from, instead of going to Safe Mode. This is what I'd like to do, actually, so I can choose my last known good configuration.
Is there any other way to get to this screen to choose my last known good configuration, can I use a USB flash drive and boot to it to get to a repair screen or what course of action should I take?

I am running Windows 10 (64-bit), but this problem also occurred on 8.1 and 7 (both 64-bit) with clean installations. I am also dual booting Ubuntu Studio 15.04, but more on that later.
When I boot my PC into 10, I have up to ten minutes before my PC either resets forcefully by itself, or freezes and never recovers. When I check the Minidump folder afterwards nothing is there.
I have replaced both my CPU (amd fx-6300) and PSU (corsair cx500m), and tested my RAM (with both sticks or just one), but none of that has fixed the problem.
My BIOS settings are at their defaults, no over/underclocking or over/undervolting at all.
The odd thing is, Ubuntu Studio runs fine with no crashes as far as I can see *EDIT: NOT THE CASE* , but if there was a software problem surely there would be a dump file?

for a month or so I have a samsung tv-monitor (27 TV monitor with the blue Touch of Colour (Black) (LT27D390EW/XU) | Support | SAMSUNG UK ) . Problem is that sometimes (rarely tbh -like once a day) the monitor reboots itself (the screen for 1 sec turns black in my next sec throws the Samsung logo and then it comes back to where it was before.
The monitor is connected to hdmi cable at 1080p resolution and I also have and an internal S / PDIF cable to get the sound passing from the motherboard to the gpu.
I sent the monitor to Samsung where they told me that this is a software problem that comes with windows 10 and that as far as they are concerned there is no solution to this other than reverting to windows 7. I had already installed windows 10.I have already tried installing the drivers that Samsung have on their site but it wont fix the problem.

The latest Win 10 update (from about 8/12) has really hosed me. Every morning the computer tries to install it, fails, and then removes the update. No error codes. This take about six reboots and half an hour. Never ran into this before. I'm about to roll back to Win 7 if I can't resolve this.
I tried the trick of setting "metered connection" in the Wi-Fi settings, but that did no good, apparently because the update is already stored on my machine...

When turning on Windows 10 my pointer will not show up for the password phase of startup. If I do get to the desktop, the pointer is either gone or it is frozen. I shut the computer down and after several startups, it will come back on maybe for a few minutes. I have checked the device manager for the mouse. Looked for updated versions. Ran a troubleshooting for it. Nothing says it is wrong. This has only happened with the upgrade to Windows 10. It used to be every so often, now it is daily.

I have had a bunch of unexpected shutdowns as of late, all of them of the event 6008. And with shutdown I basically mean, the same effect as pulling the plug, no BSOD or anything, and after that the PC reboots.

Yesterday my computer froze a number of times. It started off at about 3 minutes post boot up then got subsequently quicker with each restart. It eventually started freezing on the windows logo screen.
After about two windows logo screen freezes it automatically booted into safe mode. At this point I tried Clr CMOS, which had no apparent effect and then I disabled literally every startup program and that still had no effect.
Where I stand now:
- I have backed up all my data to an external drive.
- I have performed a "full reset" of my computer i.e. all personal data, installed apps and settings are wiped and windows reinstalls a clean version of itself.
- The set up of windows worked normally, but once it rebooted itself after set up was finished it automatically booted to safe mode.
I've exported an xml and a text document from speccy ....

Yesterday my friend installed windows 10, but encounters an issue when logging in. He types in his password, but it says its invalid, he then clicks next, but then the screen goes black then reboots.
He has an HP Pavilion desktop.
Is there any way to revert back to windows 7, which he was previously on?

I'm experiencing a strange problem on my secondary desktop (the crappy Alienware). Randomly, the machine restarts within a mere 5 minutes of it running.
It also restarts just sitting on the login screen, so it doesn't only happen when someone is logged in. It, of course, doesn't do this in Safe Mode.
