View 1 RepliesI have an Acer laptop that is only used for the Internet. The OS was recently upgraded to Windows 10, not by me. The problem is a forgotten or misused password. I can't get beyond enter your password. I'd like to reset the password, but Windows 10 isn't letting me do that.
View 1 RepliesMy wife's laptop upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 several months ago. As soon as it finished she lost access to her old files. And we didn't remember the admin passwords. I created a new account for her. But she needs her old files......emails,recipes,etc. Then we were out of the country for a month.I am not very computer literate. I've probably spent 60-70 hours trying to learn because of this problem. I stumbled through Ophcrack with no luck. I used the Utilman reset last week. I reset the 2 local admin passwords to blank and created a new admin account. There was another administrator account that I couldn't reset. I don't know if it is a higher authority or what.
The new Local Account Administrator I created seems to have limitations. Some things I've tried,it responds I don't have permission. I changed my wife's acct from admin to user.I thought I would be able to reset her password. It doesn't give me that option.
I had no problems with either upgrade on my laptop to Win10 Home or desktop PC to Win10 Pro, It's only after a recent update on my PC with Pro that I can't get past the password screen when logging into Yahoo mail. Filling in my user name/email account works fine but the next screen for my password won't work. I click the "continue" button but nothing happens. This is the only site so far where this happened.

View 2 RepliesI have installed Windows 10 recently (previously Win7). I used to have two local accounts, both administrators. I have forgotten the password for one of the accounts.
Is it possible to reset the other account's password from the other account?
I recently gave one of my work laptops to an employee to use a a job over the last few weeks, so I deactivated my Windows Live and created a local account. I for the life of me can not remember the password, I did a little bit of Googling and I keep seeing paid softwares on how to get it fixed. The unit doesn't require a password to boot up so the device is still usable.
Is there anyway that I can remove, reset, or retrieve the password without a paid software?
my son has deleted the master administrator accounts on my laptop and I am unable to restore the accounts.
How do I get the Windows 10 to reinstall the Operating system and recover the accounts?
No I cannot do it via restore or refresh as you need administrator facilities to perform these tasks.
Normally I use my sister's computer and sign in as a guest. I had a ton of pictures there that I backed up frequently on an external drive, but the last 1000 or so hadn't been backed up.
The thing is, today I come to the computer to find it's now Windows 10 and there is no guest account. The other accounts kept all their files like nothing happened but mine are all gone like they never existed.
My wife's account is no longer on the startup screen of my computer. I have delted her account & reset it multiple times and deleted from the registry as well. Every time it does not come back BUT when I add it back in as a user it says she can sign it but again, its not on the startup screen. When I reset her account the registry does not have her account back in either. I have tried both family user & other user but never shows up on the startup screen ????????
View 1 RepliesI seem to have lost all my files, music and apps in my W10 user account. I am unable to click on the start menu, the only way I can get any function from it is to right click on it. The start menu does not seem to work on any of the accounts.
Have uninstalled my McAfee AV
Have tried to do a W10 reinstall ( The previous version of windows was W8.1) But get the "Something Happened W10 Instillation has failed" at first the 25% 33% 44% and now the 83% part of the instillation.
A few days ago I signed into my Windows account and it gave my PC a password that I know but I do not want a password and I cannot take it off all I can do is change it

View 3 RepliesMy friend have perched a copy of MS Office, but he can not download it because Microsoft account is asking for the password to the old windows account. The windows account was made 10-12 years ago and the password is forgotten.
View 5 RepliesAfter I had installed Windows 10, I restored some backup files I had from another computer using Windows 7. When I tried to access the files, I was told that none of my software could load the files. After doing some research on several of the Windows forums, I found out the account I had been using from the very beginning was not the "real" Administrator account. As such, I could not change any of the User Privileges. Research again indicated I needed to "activate" the EUC Administrator, which I did.
However, I was never asked for a Password when it was activated. Now, when I try to access the new Administrator account, I can't get past the Logon screen as I do not have a password. I have tried ALL the passwords I can remember from both the current Windows 7 and 10 User/Administrator accounts on this and the other computer, all to no avail. HOW do I either determine what the "default" password is or how do I change the "default" password without knowing what is in the system right now?
During the Local account changing process(From Microsoft Account). I have changed my username from existing one to new one and i leave the password fields as empty. After the completing the process. i restarted my laptop and i try to re-login. Now password required to Login.
View 5 RepliesI have linked my Windows 10 app store to a BT provided email address. After rebooting it has asked me to login. It has changed my local account from my name to my BT email address and asking for a password. This is not my normal password and has seemed to link my BT account within the Microsoft environment and assigned it a password. I now cannot log in to my PC? I have spoken to Microsoft about 15 times and just keep getting passed around. I have tried resetting the password via Microsoft but it fails every time. Any way i can switch to log in locally via my old password?
View 1 RepliesWake up this morning and wife's PC demands a Microsoft Password in order to operate the computer. I know nothing of Microsoft passwords - never needed one before. The solution: Log on to the Internet to reset the password -- BUT you cannot log on to anything without the password. Research on another computer reveals the cute trick of holding down the shift key while restarting in order to get back to a previous build of Windows - BUT you need to do this as an administrator - which you can do by signing into Windows - FOR WHICH YOU NEED A PASSWORD!
View 1 RepliesWhen I first bought this laptop I was able to use MS Edge, MS Games, etc. I didn't like having to sign in every time I sat down since I was the only one that uses it, so I disabled that feature. Now, I've decided I'd like to use them. So, I went in and added my pswd, and I even added my PIN, but it still won't give me access to those features.
View 1 RepliesI've been using my original password for several months to log in to Windows. Yesterday I was prompted to change my password, so I did. Now, my desktop image has reverted to the default "window with smoke", most of my desktop icons have disappeared, a navigation app that normally runs on startup is not there, and the bottom toolbar looks different. Even my email app, Thunderbird, acts as if I had never used it and I had to set it up again.
It looks as if my account identity has gone back to a default "new windows 10 user" setup. How can I restore my old setup?
Windows 10, set to boot in safe mode (alternate shell) without network access. So, I forget my microsoft account password (usually i used my pin), how to get into the alternative shell or how to boot normally.
View 5 RepliesI actually did not forget the password, but I flucked up with the net use pc /random command. What to do now. Windows 10, ASRock motherboard, No windows account...
View 1 RepliesAfter installing Windows 10, I changed my Administrator account password, losing my EFS-encryption on some system files.
I didn't read the fine print:
Now, I can't downgrade because it keeps giving me the error when trying to downgrade that I need to remove the Administrator (even though I de-activated it through net user Administrator /active:no).
When I open my email account from my browser I am taken straight into my emails without having to put in my account name or password. I always sign out. I never check the "keep me signed in" box. But this invariably happens. Surely there should be some security measure to prevent this as it seems to leave the system open to hackers.
View 1 RepliesNew to PCs in general. Bit of back info - built a PC a month ago. Have had a few set backs with drivers and BIOS update, but it seems everything is stable for now.
I signed into my Xbox Live account about a week ago, which is linked to my hotmail/outlook account Ive had for ages. This automatically linked to my PC user account I have on this PC. I found out by rebooting, login screen shows my name as usual, but now underneath shows my email. It also changed my login password to my outlook password. Is this something to be concerned about? I can still login fine, but been nagging me because Ive never had a login password automatically switch on me before.
