Performance :: 32bit Slower On SSD Than Windows 7?
Feb 3, 2016
Have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 a few times already and keep going back to Win 7 'cause it system slows down (start up and shutdown) after second reboot on Win 10.
It takes about 30 seconds to load on Win with all kinds of installed programs. Win 10 takes at least twice the amount and i have barely loaded anything yet.

I am on 64 bit Windows 10 Pro 10586.29. Before the last 2 updates, my system, with a 512GB SSD would shut down in 4 to 5 seconds. Since the last 2 updates, it has gone from a very fast 5 seconds to about 15 to 20 seconds.

I recently purchased a computer with Windows 10 32 bit installed. The guy I bought it from said there seemed to be something wrong with the RAM (8GB installed but only 3.25Gb usable). I checked the RAM and it was all OK, then doing a little research I found that this is common for machines designed for 64 bit. My computer system indicates that it has a 32 bit operating system, x64 bit processor. I have downloaded the 64 bit ISO file but when I open the setup.exe file I get a message telling me that "this app can't run on your PC".
I have talked to a Microsoft techo through the chat option who confirms that my computer is able to run 64 bit (after I gave the techo direct access to my computer). At that stage I was seeking assistance with the 64 bit download which the techo resolved. After the successful download I am now having a problem with the installation.

I have downloaded Windows 10 and created multiple USB's using Rufus/Windows 7 USB Tool/Even The Win 10 Creation tool, however everything time I try to install using UEFI the USB drive is never detected therefore it can't boot. I change it to legacy and it does boot and will only install the 32bit version...
I have downloaded the 64bit image only numerous times, created it with either with one of the above methods, even with Rufus settings correct, I can never install the 64bit version. As a test I did the same steps for Windows 8 media and it works fine under UEFI and install the 64bit version.
UEFI is selected in my bios, secure boot is off (even tried it with it on) - Even burn them all to DVD to no avail.
PS I even install the 64bit version of 8 then tried to run the setup within the ISO of 4 different downloads of either both images and the 64bit only image but all state that I need to insert the 64bit media and setup can not install.

I have a 64-bit desktop PC with 8GB RAM installed on it. I had installed 32-bit Windows 7 Home on it (when I purchased the O/S DVD, years ago, I only had a 32-bit machine). Yesterday, I upgraded it to Windows 10.
"This PC >> Property" shows :
-- Installed Memory (RAM): 8 GB (usable 3.4 GB) (less than half)
-- System type: 32-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
Thus, my installed memory remains underutilized. This situation can be rectified by changing the Operating System from 32-bit to 64-bit, I guess. But, the question that I face here is "How do I do that"?

Whenever I'm installing a big game(say 28GB), Windows 10 gets bogged down and sluggish. I can't even watch movies without them getting slowed down every now and then. Whatever program/folder I double-click takes a lot longer to open up. I don't recall this happening on Windows 7 Ultimate. Why is this happening?
My Rig:
Windows 10 Pro x64
Phenom II X4 945
nVidia GT630
Seagate 500GB 7200rpm SATA II

I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?

This didn't happen right away. They worked fine for a month or so. It is not the ISP, my ISP is very reliable, they consistently give me the bandwidth I am supposed to get. 20MB down 2MB up. The problem laptop averages 0.3MB down and 1.5MB up.
The other hosts on my home network are not having any problems. I have another Win 10 Machine that was upgraded from Win 7 that is working just fine. One Ubuntu client and one more Win 7 client.
Fixes I attempted:
I went to the HP website and applied the recommended updates.
Checked Microsoft updates - none were suggested or required.
I removed and readded the network adapter drivers. Several times.
The hardware in question is:
HP Envy 17t Laptop
OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36)
Wireless:Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter driver: 6.223.215.14
Ethernet:Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Adapter driver: 10.1.505.2015

I just installed the TP Link T6e 1300 WiFi adapter card and everything was ok until I noticed that all my applications are launching in 32-bit instead of 64-bit. Some programs won't open, but are "running" according to task manager in 32-bit. Is there anyway I can troubleshoot this?
OS:
WIndows 10
Expansion Card:
TP Link T6e 1300
MB:

Today I used a registry cleaner to fix my slow system, but instead of repairing it it made my PC stuck in user login bootloop, but they backed up the registry and I have it. So the question is, how can I import the registry in this non-booting PC?
I tried running RegEdit from CMD from Repair DVD, but "load hives" is greyed out!

My wife's Samsung laptop gets a failure whenever trying to do an image backup. Actually, this has been happening for quite a while - even before she installed Windows 10 when she had W7. I was hoping that the problem would go away with W10 but it hasn't. Backup runs almost to the end and then fails with the attached message. The message says to run dskchk on both her drive and on the backup drive which I did. No problems were found. (I backup my desktop on that drive all the time with no problems.) I tried backing it up on another external drive that also tests good but got the same error message.

I notice that after i run these commands in powershell or cmd:
sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} .
and run sfc /scannow again, I always get this. It seems like my windows is always corrupted and I think that is causing my to get start menu, search menu, and task bar issues after stand by. What's wrong with my computer?
I have to do a clean install apparently, also the command broke my apps.
Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml}

However it wont let me, I have tried disk cleanup and tried to delete the windows old folder, but it tells me I don't have permission to delete this folder, and if I try again it says that I need permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this folder.

I Created an image backup using Windows 10. I burned the repair CD. I booted from cd. Options are most recent backup [but it only shows D:, the factory backup partition]. No browse capability. Other option does not let me browse to the folder the system created, "F:WindowsImageBackup". How do I restore from this image instead of the factory image?

I have a problem with my Win10 laptop and the best way to describe it (i think!), is that the minimize/maximizing of windows is not behaving as expected.
For example: sometimes I am unable to maximize a window properly, it seems to maximize, but not come to the front of the open windows. so if I have a browser open, and try to maximize MsWord, the word window maximizes, but sits behind the browser so I then have to minimize the browser.
ALSO sometimes even this doesn't work as for some reason a window will change its position to off the screen so the only way to maximize it (without ending the program and re-starting), is to hover over the taskbar icon, right click the needed window and hit maximize.
