I have restore point space limited to 2Gigs on my Tablet. I've noticed that when a new restore point is created at the top of the list, an old one is removed from the bottom of the list. Sooner or later, I will end up with totally new restore points. Is there a way to save one specific restore point, and not loose it? (without actually backing up (not an option on my Tablet) ).

View 8 RepliesI see that Win10 has deleted the function to schedule the creation of restore points! Supposedly it creates a new restore point before downloading updates (if the function is turned on; by default it is off!).
I like to schedule the creation of points every few days or each week to prevent viruses from corrupting things. This feature is so important; I can't believe they have hidden it, made it less functional, and turned it off by default!
Is there any way to run the creation button from the task scheduler or something to automatically schedule restore point creation?
When I manually try and make a restore point using the windows program it ends with a property page error.
It still does the restore point ok and seems to work all right if I need to use that point to restore.
No error notifications pop up using the System Restore Point shortcut tool or when system does a restore point when adding new programs or drivers.
So my best guess is the error is showing up because this page is open

I installed windows 10 technical preview yesterday . I found a problem with system restore. It goes through everything normally but after it reboots I get an error. In the details it says:
System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.

I was able to use Instant_Restore_Point under Win 8 (worked great), which I found here: [URL]
But I can't get it to run under Win 10, even after adding (in the appropriate place) these lines:

I had 8.1 and now 10, but the issue is with a restore point i did, a program i was using for work was acting up after windows did an auto update.
Did a restore point and now things are not opening right, applications that use to open just hang...i want to reinstall windows 8.1 BUT i dont want to reinstall Photoshop and other essential programs.
I want to restore and keep files BUT if there is an issue with doing that then ill reinstall from scratch.
After the recent (automatic) upgrade to windows 10 ( I have been running windows 10 for months), I can sign in to windows 10 but the desktop that appears with my sign in is something foreign and all my files, pictures and videos are NOT in any folders under Documents. So I thought I would go back to a restore point but am a bit afraid to since I cannot find a Restore file and I don't know how Microsoft and windows 10 works in this are or if my files are included in the automatic backup by the "system restore point" process. Then I thought I should, on my other windows 10 laptops, "create" a restore point from time to time as I feel is needed.
View 5 RepliesI set tried to set up the mail app. I was not suscessful. Would not sync. No mail from Outlook. I read how to delete the mail app and reinstall it from the shop. I ran the program to do that and it work. It removed the Mal and calendar app.
When I tried to go to the shop app, and down load the current mail app, as instructed, the shop will only stay open 3 seconds and then it will close. I rebooted the computer several times, no avail.
My question is how do I restore my computer to just before I removed the mail app.
My problem is that I cant set a restore point as Windows says some files are missing. So when I try and reset Windows it says it can't find the reset environment.
View 3 RepliesAfter restoring my computer back two days using System Restore, I noticed in PC Settings>Personalization>Start>Choose which folders appear on Start, that all the options are greyed out except "Settings". I was wondering if there was a way to fix this? I already tried SFC /Scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, but neither fixed the problem.

I received an update from Microsoft yesterday (Cumulative Update for Win 10 - KB3081424) and noted during the installation that no restore point was created. System Protection is ON and I am able to create restore points manually. Thus, this is only a minor annoyance since I can successfully create these points on my own. However, I would prefer for the system to do so when important updates from Microsoft come down. I guess it is possible that the update referenced above did not generate such a point but found that unusual since it is listed as a Cumulative Update.

View 6 RepliesI noticed a folder named" Windows.migrated" and I deleted in error thinking it wasn't necessary anymore. This was after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. Unfortunately it caused ALL my store apps including the default ones to be deleted. I'm a bit lost of what to do now. I don't have a restore point to access.
View 3 RepliesI have recently had to re-install Windows 10 and had problems before so decided this time to do a clean install and then run the system image backup. This went well but when it came to the testing of the restore a problem arose. I was using the Repair Disc created after the system image backup completed and could not understand the source file indicated was not where I had put the backup.
The restore said the file was on the C: drive which was what I was trying to restore to.
I just bought a WD My Passport Ultra and it comes with a copy of WD Backup. Never using backup software I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I had no problems at all until I ended up with a message "These files failed to back up: UPPS.bin, 15.77kb". so I decided to try and find the file, which I found. The question is, what this file does and is it necessary to backup? Probably most of you know where this file is but for those who don't you can find the file at: C:UsersUser NameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsUPPSUPPS.bin.
View 6 RepliesI have a paid Utility that I use to set certain performance adjustments. What I'd like to do is find out exactly where I can make these same adjustments from within Windows 10, so I can make these same adjustments on a PC where I don't have access to that same utility.
Here is the first batch of settings, restart the Shell, force DLL unload from memory. Increase paged memory usage for NTFS. I can disable Auto Restart fro the Advanced Settings panel in System Info, so that's not a problem. The last item "Adjust Processor Scheduling for best performance of Programs/Services, I know where that is as well, so it's the top three settings I'm not sure where they are.
This one, I'm not sure where to shut off the prefetcher
And finally these three settings. which tell the system to shut down quicker.
But most important is at the very bottom there, "Automatically Close Non-Responding applications"-
Which is very useful when apps want to hang during shut-down.
I don't know exactly how the tool is doing some of these things.
I have the Utility in my home systems, so it's no problem here, mostly it's when I have to work on a PC when I am away from home, these particular settings useful with performance.

I did a clean install of windows 10 and now i am trying to do a system image and save it to usb but windows keeps saying this is not a valid location, my usb is a sandisk 64 gb formatted to the correct format that windows asks me to do. I have tried to do create a image on two usb flash drives but i keep getting the same error from windows that this is not a valid location .

I'm trying to backup to an external Seagate drive.
I've tried several fixes as I was previously having this issue too ([URL]), but nothing has worked.
I created a system image on a Seagate external hard drive using Windows 10 Home, and I created a restore disc for booting with an external BUFFALO DVD drive connected to a USB port. I went into the UEFI and set my BUFFALO drive as the first drive to be used for booting at power up or reset. When I restarted the computer, a message appeared saying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". I pressed a key. After a few minutes, the following screen appeared:
I used the down-arrow key to select US and hit enter. Then the following screen appeared:
I used the down-arrow key to select "Choose Device" and hit enter. Then the following screen appeared:
This screen gave me only two options: (1) Boot with the BUFFALO optical drive, and (2) Boot with the Solid State Drive which the HP Spectre x360 has (instead of a real hard drive). When I used the down arrow to select the BUFFALO optical drive, the screen that asks for the desired keyboard layout reappeared. When I selected US and hit enter, the screen that asks for a booting option reappeared. When I selected "Choose Device" and hit enter, the screen that gave me the option to boot with either my BUFFALO optical drive or the Solid State Drive reappeared. I found I could keep going around in circles like this, without ever having an opportunity to restore the computer with a system image I had created earlier.
Is there an application, freeware or paid, that works in creating restore points in Windows 10, so if an installed application messes things up, I can restore the saved point, so Windows 10 loads as if the application was never installed in the first place, and Windows registry etc is restored to as it was BEFORE the application was installed?
