I hear the computer turn back on and the light is on, but the screen is still black. My mouse and keyboard are unresponsive (can't turn backlight on). I have to do a hard shut down. When it's back on, it's like it woke up from sleep mode, not a fresh restart.
This just started happening today I think so I did a system restore, but the problem persists. The only thing I remember doing today was updating my ATI drivers.
Every time my computer's monitor goes to sleep, on awaking the computer will BSOD with "kernel security check failure" or the screen will not turn on and reboot the PC.

View 19 RepliesOther than going through each and every task in the task scheduler, is there a way to see those that are allowed to wake the machine while it is sleeping? My PC woke up this morning at 3:30 am. It then went back to sleep about ten minutes later. I've checked all of the normal things (no auto-maintenance, etc.) so I' suspecting it is a task that woke the PC up.

View 1 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 and now I cannot wake up my computer from sleep mode. With Windows 7 and 8.1 all I had to do was tap any key and the computer would wake up. Now that doesn't work. I have to press and hold down the power button to force a shut down and then restart. This problem only appeared after I installed Windows 10. How can I fix it?
View 19 RepliesI have an HP pavilion g6 notebook laptop computer. I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had occasion to put my computer to sleep! I had been working on my college courses for a few hours, when I needed to take a break. I put my system to sleep, but when I returned to complete my assignments my computer would not turn on! It went to an off black screen, and locked up! When at sleep the power indicater blinked, which indicates that it was in sleep mode.
When I tried to awaken my Pavillion it locked up, and the only way to regain control was to manually force it to shut down (i.e. hooded power button down.) thinking this may be due to system clutter I cleaned both user disc & system files using the Windows disk cleaning function, found through the control panel, looked for both HP updates, and Windows updates.
Later I again tried to awaken my machine after putting it to sleep, and had a repeat in the inability to awaken it! A third and the last time I tried to awaken my PC from sleep I noticed that for some reason, and somehow the indicator light was solid, the screen black, and I heard my computers fan running!
When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.
View 4 RepliesWhen I put my laptop to sleep and then attempt to wake it up, it will power on (going through the boot up screens) instead of just waking up, thus causing me to lose any information open on the computer.
I have tried a few things to try to wake it up to no avail:
sfc /scannow in cmd
unplug all usb devices before going to sleep/waking up
rollback graphics drivers
resetting power plan settings and power button settings back to default state
Is there some memory dump file to fix this?
When finished my work, I choose "Sleep" in the power options. Then, when I want to work again, I hit the mouse or any key, even "escape" amd it doesn't "wake up". After 2-3 minutes, I turn the machine off and re-boot.

All was fine until I attempted to wake the computer from sleep mode recently and got the following error.
An operating system was not found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system
Press Ctrl+Atl+Del to restart
I disconnected the two external drives I had connected and tried again with the same result.
On startup, I've hit F12 to run through the Dell ePSA Pre-boot system assessment and it passes all the tests System, Cables, OS boot Path, Hard drive, cd rom drive, video card, cpu fan, system fan processor and memory.
I have the original 7, 64 bit installation disks, but nothing for Windows 10. What's the best way to get this thing going again?
When I wake up my computer from sleep mode I have to go to the bios to reset the boot drive?
View 1 RepliesMy motherboard is a P8Z77-V, with Gigabyte 7950 video card, if that matters.
I did the windows 10 upgrade, and all seems well, except waking from Standby.
If I go into start menu, and choose sleep, everything spins down, and the computer shuts itself off. I am assuming this 'sleep' is some sort of hibernate.
But when I leave the computer over night I come back and the monitors are off,but lights on tower on. I am assuming this is standby mode? Anyway, I can't wake the computer from it, using mouse or keyboard (both USB). Clicking power button on tower does nothing. I generally have to click the reset button on tower and do a full boot sequence. When I log in, I do not get a message about windows not shutting down properly (maybe that message is no more in 10?), but clearly it is a fresh desktop.
I reset all bios settings, and update to most recent bios. I have the latest graphics drivers.

Rig only a few weeks old and I noticed for the second time now when my computer is left alone for awhile it acts like it's in sleep mode but mouse and keyboard don't seem to be waking it. I fixed it last time by just restarting computer...

View 1 RepliesAfter I upgraded to Windows 10, my system won't go to sleep automatically. The display will turn off after the idle time I've set but the computer remains on. I've tested with setting it to sleep after being idle for 1 minute, and only the display turns off. If I manually go to Power -> Sleep in the Start Menu, it will go to sleep.
View 9 RepliesMy computer will go to sleep after 30 minutes, as scheduled, but only if I have not signed in to my user account. Once I sign in, it will not automatically sleep, and the monitor will not dim.
What processes are likely to be interfering with sleep? I can put it into sleep manually, and it will stay asleep. but it won't do so automatically, if I am signed in.
My laptop, running Windows Ten from a clean install, has issues with the sleep function. About once a day, when I either put the computer to sleep or when it does it on its own, the screen will go black but the computer will not stop running. All the lights are on, the fan and disks keep running. Nothing works to turn the screen back on and my only option becomes to force a shut down.
I've tried tweaking all the power options in various ways, I've tried disabling/enabling hibernation/fast start and I've searched for an answer but I do not have one.
I choose SLEEP and my PC goes to sleep, and there is a light on front of my PC Unit that flashes.
But I can't wake Windows 10 up. I tried pressing all buttons on mouse and keyboard, nothing happens ...
I downloaded windows 10 yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine. However, every time I shut my computer, it's supposed to go into sleep mode from which a shake of the mouse will wake it. It is indeed going to sleep, but I can't wake it through any interaction with the mouse or keyboard. The power light is still on, indicating that the computer is sleeping, but I can't get it to wake up. I have had to hold the power button to turn it off and then on and I'm pretty sure that's terrible for my computer to not shut down properly.

View 1 RepliesAfter an upgrade to Windows 10, my HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor will not wake up properly from sleep. After sleep, if I press a key on the keyboard or press the power button, I hear the fan and hard drive start up, and the monitor goes from completely off to on yet black. (I can see a small difference, and the monitor reports that it receives a signal.) But nothing happens, including when I press various key combinations such as those which would cause rebooting. Sometimes my mouse pointer is visible but usually not. If so, the pointer will not move. If I hold down the power button, killing the power supply, and the press the power button again, the computer wakes up (not rebooting) to the condition it was before.
As a history, this machine had a clean Windows 7 install, then a Windows 10 upgrade, then a Windows 10 clean install.
[I have a vague memory that the computer originally went to sleep and woke up OK a few times, and now doesn't. However, my memory could be wrong.]
I have tried:
* all Windows updates
* using HP website for all relevant updates, including BIOS
* display adapter (graphics card) update
* Windows Power Usage Troubleshooter
* turning hibernation off and on again in the command line (powercfg /h off and on)
PC wakes every night at 11:36. I have disabled the wake for anything feature and I cannot figure this out. Based on settings its not supposed to wake up. Is there something buried that I need to change or is this just a win 10 flaw?
