Nov 26, 2015I have a HP Stream 11 laptop I bought from Walmart, it came with Windows 8.1 and I went through the charade of upgrading from 8.1 to 10 so it would validate they key and then I immediately did a clean install. Sadly with this laptop, it only has a 32 GB eMMC drive (non-upgrageable), when formatted it is brought down to 28 GB, after the clean install I was at 15 GB, I have installed very very few and rather lightweight applications that at most take up 1 GB. So left with 14 GB, what I have noticed since then... it seems as the updates rolls out, I'm starting to run out of space, I just did the "November 1511" update and I am now down to 5.75 GB free. Is there anything I can do to slim down Windows 10? or Should I just downgrade to a different OS?

Nov 15, 2015I am using Windows 10. And I just received November Update yesterday.
My new Samsung 250 GB SSD is on the way , and I don't want to install a fresh install. With my 1Mbps (128KBps) internet it will take more than a day to complete.
My HDD is 500 GB , but C drive is only 50 GB.
I want to close only the C drive into SSD and make it a 200GB+ partition (or less but more than 50 GB). I will be using HDD for media storage and SDD for OS and Apps.

Jan 18, 2016I'm trying disgnosis for my Dad, who's trying to move over to SSD.
The story so far: Using AOMEI backupper bootable disk, we tried to clone his current HDD onto the SSD. Part-way through the clone process, it gives an error saying that the drive is too fragmented to clone, and stops.
We run defrag on the C: Drive, resulting in a 1% fragmented drive at the end, and try again.
The same message crops up - too fragmented. It turns out the 'recovery' partition (It's an OEM machine, so its ~10Gb rather than the normal 100Mb) is too fragmented to clone, and we can't defrag it.
So we just clone the C: drive, leaving 1Gb of unallocated space, and then use the recovery DVD's to run startup repair, hoping it will restore the MBR or 'normal' recovery partition, and make the system load.
All we get is a blue screen with a blinking cursor in the top left that persists or over 5 minutes.
Startup Repair completes successfully. According to the Log file it ran 2 iterations of the repair operations, and found no errors! However the drive still will not boot.
This is particuarly annoying as I have used backupper both personally and professionally and have NEVER seen the fragmentation issue before, or had any issue at all for that matter with a cloned drive.
Performance :: External Hard Drives Impacting Startup Performance
Jan 23, 2016My PC performance with Windows 10 is very good except when it isn't
One of the things that is perplexing me is that my external hard drives seem to be impacting my startup performance. Following start up Task Manager performance tab shows one of my external drives (G) working at nearly 100% and the noisy disk drive suggests that it is working hard. The disk transfer rate also indicates movement between the PC and the drive. This is despite Drive G being used only as a storage/backup device with no automated actions configured. Yesterday Drive G became very hot as a result.
If I disconnect Drive G, my second external hard drive Drive F takes its place and task manager shows the same activity as previously shown on G. If both drives are connected F shows no activity.
Drivers/Hardware :: Hard Drive Inaccessible After Upgrade (Apps Stored On Drive Run)
Jan 14, 2016Problem: When I click on my H: drive or try to access it from the command line, it gives me an access denied error. However, all of the applications that I have installed on that drive run without issue. So, there is some access there. (See attached images. The first shows the hard drive state in diskmanager and in windows explorer. The second image shows the minecrafter launcher profile (that it is stored in H: and the application running, proving that there is some access.
System: Home built PC: (C:) 240GB SSD for OS, (E:) 1TB HDD for file storage and backup, (H:) 1TB HDD for large applications and video editing files. All drives are Simple, Basic, and none have encryption. All use the SATA connectors.
Process: I had Windows 7 Home 64 bit with, among many other things, Comodo Internet Security, Virtualbox, ImageDisk.
During the upgrade process, I noticed that Windows 10, during the upgrade, ran the file system check and fix "problems" on the H: drive.
(Side note) Having forgotten to uninstall Comodo before the upgrade, I did not have network after the upgrade. The fix was non-trivial as I had to use a second computer to download the unofficial comodo uninstaller. Reboot. Uninstall the network devices. Reboot. And once Windows 10 was up and running, it reinstalled the network devices and the network was available.
Still, whether before or after the Comodo uninstall and reinstall, the uninstall of ImageDisk, or the uninstall of the Virtualbox network device, I have no access to the H: drive.

Jan 9, 2016Pen Drive and external hard drive keep getting errors! So I select to fix the problem scandrive recommended scan and repair. But there's never anything wrong with them it reports! And it takes ages to scan it takes 10-15 minutes for 32GB pen drive. Windows 7 Pro done it in a flash! Anything I can do about it.

Jul 30, 2015Ever since doing a fresh install of Windows 10, in "This PC", my secondary hard drive is not in the list. I have already tried right clicking "This PC" and clicking Manage -> Disk Management, but there is nothing there except my SSD with Windows 10 installed.
I have tried changing SATA cables, SATA ports, but it still does not appear in This PC. I have also tried installing my hard drive on a another computer to see if the files were corrupted. They were not, all files were still the same before the installation of Windows 10. I did not leave the hard drive plugged in during the installation.
In the BIOS, my computer recognizes both my SSD and my hard drive, but in This PC, it's still missing.
Performance :: Previous Versions Does Not Work On System Drive But Second Drive
Jan 8, 2016I have two physical disks in my notebook, one simple partition each, BitLocker encrypted. Drive C:, which is my system drive and drive D:, for some media stuff.Windows Version is Windows 10.0.10586 x64.I have configured VSS to use the "Previous Versions" feature in case I accidentally delete or overwrite a file. I did this on my Win7 install to and it saved my butt at least three times.
VSS is running (Volume Shadow Copy Service set to "Manual"), snapshots are there but when I right-click on a modified file (or on the root of the disk) and click "Previous Versions", my D: drive correctly displays the existing snapshots, on my system drive C: there is always a "There are no previous versions available" message. But, when I click the "System Restore..." button, I get a list with my snapshots, so I guess I could restore my system.
configuration seems to be ok and the two manual snapshots are there on both drives. For the moment there is no system restore point, but it does not work with snaps created by them either.

I was surprised, but I assumed I just had more on it than I thought. However, since then I have re-installed Windows for my own reasons and was surprised to find despite removing all documents and applications in the re-installation, I only had 90 GB free. This leaves 110 taken up by an unknown cause. I could not find many large files in file explorer when I searched for large files (file:gigantic).

Oct 24, 2015I have two hard drive on my PC, as SSD for the OS and a HDD for all my storage.I seem to have a problem with search, that it will only find stuff that is stored on the SDD.To get it to look for other files on the HD, I have to click search my stuff, and even then it still doesn't work.Is there a way to fix this? Feb 10, 2016My old computer was a windows 8 that was upgraded to windows 10. I just ordered a new i5 6600 which comes with windows 10, a 250G SSD and 1 TB hard drive.. My old hard drive appears to be a Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA which seems to be the same as the one in my new Vanquish. My old hard drive is 2/3 full and is backed up often. My question is can I move this old hard drive to my new computer as a separate drive without formatting it and use the data on it (or transfer my data) or does it need to be formatted (thus giving me roughly 2 TB of space with the 1 TB provided with the computer). It was my C: drive in the old computer.

I ran into an issue with the installation disc not detecting the hard drive (ie, no hard drive is listed when the screen appears to select the hard drive to install Windows on).
I've tried various drivers (latest from HP and Intel website, OEM OS installation discs etc) with no luck.. at the very least, the Windows 7 driver from HP's website for that laptop should work for installing Windows 7- same results, does not detect hard drive.
At this point I'm wondering if maybe it's a BIOS setting that's causing this? I don't recall changing anything in the BIOS when I last installed Windows (which was v8), but it was awhile ago, so can't be certain.
