Aug 2, 2015I have updated my desk top with no problems and have set it to sleep after an hour, however it still goes to sleep after 10 minutes. It then sits with the blue sign on screen with no account pic or sign in box for ages before going to a blue screen which flickers for a few seconds before giving me the sign in options. I have tried adjusting all the power saver options to no avail!

Aug 10, 2015When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".
Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.
BSOD :: System Freezing From Fresh Boot Or Sleep After Several Minutes
Sep 28, 2015I have been monitoring for several weeks to try and find a pattern. After startup (fresh) or from sleep by Pc works fine for a several minutes or hours then just freezes!! I thought it was the sleep issue but now i notice it does it from a fresh start.
I have also tried using different browsers no different. It can happen when dragging to another monitor but it also happens when doing nothing it just freezes the mouse. I cannot recover i cannot activate Task Manager. I have reboot via pc power button.
I have latest drivers i think also Event viewer report not shutting down properly not sure if that is the crash or what. I keep loosing lots of work I am on.
Power Saving And Sleep Modes - In 5 Minutes Only Screen Goes Blank
Oct 19, 2015Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.

Jan 9, 2016so i upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 the other day (clean install) and my monitors go to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity i have my screen and computer set to never sleep everything is set to never no screensaver i have set system unattended sleep to never (ive set it to +&- ten minutes and doesnt do a thing) i am at me wits end ive edited registry keys to no avail..should i just go back to my windows 7 partition.

Feb 10, 2016For some reason, my disk, when i open my computer and at some other point, always spikes up to 100% for a few minutes.
This happens when :
at the start, Something called System and compressed memory always make my pc go to 100% disk usage. Later on, there are all those Service Host going up to 100% and something called RzStatsManager
When i open norton or when i download something new it also goes to 100%, each time I open google chrome too and Steam make the disk go to 100% at the start and every time i open it it goes to 20% and the system memory goes to 80%...
All these times, the disk spiked at 100% for a few minutes.
I disabled all my notification, each time i open my PC i disable Windows search and superfetch but it spikes up every time. What can I do?
Performance :: Hangs After 10ish Minutes
Dec 22, 2015I upgraded from windows 7 pro x64 to Windows 10 pro x64. Since the first time I upgraded, it's all good the first 10ish minutes, and then nothing works.If I open a new tab in Edge, that one doesn't load. If I click a link on an existing page, it doesn't load.
The windows menu shows up when I click it, but I cannot search anything in it.If I start a new application, it doesn't start it.Win-R does show the command runner, but anything ran there doesn't start (even cmd or notepad) (no matter which app, explorer, notepad, etc...).
Restart/Hibernate/Shutdown doesn't do anything.I have to force reset (hardware button) to be able to use the computer another 10ish minutes before it becomes unusable again.
I tried removing many services/apps at start-up, didn't work. Malwarebytes and panda antivirus didn't find anything wrong. Repair start-up / system didn't work. So I performed a clean install of Windows 10 (still pro x64).
Performance :: Monitor Turns Off After 2 Minutes Of Inactivity?
Aug 20, 2015I recently updated from Window 8.1 to Windows 10. The upgrade went fairly well except for my laptop monitor turning off after 1 or 2 minutes of inactivity. I have changed all power settings to appropriate times. At times, normally after a fresh restart, my screen saver kicks in correctly. However, after a few times of working correctly, my monitor begins to turn off again.

Feb 1, 2016Every time i leave my computer idle for 5 minutes, disk defragmenting starts acting up. It never did this on Windows 7, and its very annoying. This causes my fan to speed up and it stays that way until i give it some input.
I always put my computer to sleep when I'm done using it, and would rather defragment manually. I want to turn this 5 minute defragging off, but how?

Jan 21, 2016For the last 3 weeks anytime I "restart" my hp 32 bit pc it takes 6 minutes and all the while the screen is black with a small blinking light in the upper left corner everything is fine after it finally restarts and if I shut it down and start it back it starts normally and in the morning when I first start it up it starts normally it just happens any time I restart it for any reason.

Feb 10, 2016So I've and tried some more and I cannot seem to get my PC to Sleep. I was upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Ultimate. It's a custom built rig for gaming and streaming movies. Not sure why, but I put it on sleep, I see the PC go down as if it's in sleep mode and then I leave the room. I go by the room again and the PC is back on.

Oct 19, 2015I've tried everything I've read but nothing will make my PC sleep. It worked fine with Windows 8.1 but since 10 it doesn't matter what I change, the only way to make the PC sleep is to do it manually.
Here are some of the steps I've followed with no success:
- powercfg /requests shows nothing
- powercfg /energy doesn't show anything interesting
- no media sharing is enabled
- homegroup is disabled
- disabling NIC has no effect
- removing everything from the PC other than power and HDMI for video has no effect
- everything but my mouse is set not to wake pc (I have also tried with the mouse also set to no avail)
- updated drivers where possible
The weird thing is if I don't log onto the PC from a reboot, it will sleep just fine - the minute I log on it refuses to auto sleep. Also, if I boot into Safe Mode, the sleep works just fine again.
It's combined with the auto setting for windows update (despite having disable wake timers selected) the PC will sometimes wake in the middle of the night and stay on until I sleep it again.

Aug 9, 2015I hear the computer turn back on and the light is on, but the screen is still black. My mouse and keyboard are unresponsive (can't turn backlight on). I have to do a hard shut down. When it's back on, it's like it woke up from sleep mode, not a fresh restart.
This just started happening today I think so I did a system restore, but the problem persists. The only thing I remember doing today was updating my ATI drivers.

Aug 20, 2015Post W10 Installation - my computer constantly wakes up from sleep. It just will not stay asleep no matter what, I thought it was my mouse so I went into my device manager and changed it so it didn't have the ability to wake up my computer. It stopped for a little while at least that's what it seemed, must have been coincidence because now its happening again. Which is weird because I went into power settings and turned "Wake Timers" off completely, it's now switched to disabled. Yet whenever I runcmd and type "powercfg -waketimers" as it reccomended here [URL] .... to find out which timers are on.
It says something about volume 2 on one of my hdd's, some stuff that doesn't make much sense to me. If you need me to paste the cmd info you're going to have to tell me how. Also when i type "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" it lists "HID Keyboard Device" and "HID Keyboard Device (001)." Maybe the latter is what's waking my computer? I figured that was just another name for my keyboard or something, all I want is my computer to stay asleep and only my corsair keyboard to be able to wake it up.
Also everytime it wakes up I type "powercfg -lastwake" into the cmd and it doesn't give me any info. It says "wake history count -1" and the other 2 stats are 0, followed by no text or information. Also I forgot to mention but when it wakes up as of now, the display will actually stay off but the computers lights and everything are on. Whereas before when I thought it was the mouse waking it up, the whole computer would turn back on, display and all.

Jan 30, 2016Windows 10 is simply not able to enter sleep mode. Whenever I try, the monitor shuts off, but the computer power does not. When I move the mouse, the log-in screen appears (as it would when your computer comes out of sleep).I looked at Windows Event Viewer, and this is what I found for my attempt to sleep just a moment ago (Event 10016, DistributedCOM):"The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB70 2511 C276} to the user NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM SID (S-1-5-18) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."
I went to these IDs in regedit, and attempted to change their security permissions. I received an error message saying "Unable to save permission changes on {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}" (or the CLSID).Looking at the above CLSID registry entry more closely, I find that it corresponds to a program called RunTimeBroker.exe. The official Windows website has instructions on how to change the permissions for this program, namely, by opening Component services, going to RunTimeBroker, opening its Properties, and adjusting its Access Permissions in the Security tab.
Performance :: PC Waking From Sleep At Same Time Each Day
Oct 29, 2015Recently I have been finding my PC powered up when it should be sleeping. Using powercfg -lastwake does not show a cause but looking at system events I can that there are a series of events each day starting at 08:59:31. One of these is a Power - Troubleshooter event which says that the system has returned from a low power state but Wake Source is unknown. This and the other messages are ones that normally appear if I wake up the PC manually. There are subsequent events from Windows Update so I thought that might be the cause but it does not run immediately and I now believe that it is running because the PC has woken up and is not causing it to wake.
I have checked in Power Options Advanced Settings/Sleep and Allow wake timers is set to disabled.i have checked that on my network adaptor, 'Allow this device to wake the computer' is not checked.I have checked Control Panel/Security and Maintenance/Automatic Maintenance and Allow scheduled maintenance to wake my computer at the scheduled time is unchecked.
I had also checked in Task Scheduler and under WindowsUpdate there are 4 tasks but under Conditions, none are set to 'Wake the computer to run this task'.Checking back through the event logs it seems that this problem first happened on 27th Sep and always happens at 08:59:31. I have looked at the event log for the previous day and can see some events relating to the installation or update of a device driver although I haven't made changes to the hardware for a long time. It is followed by an event relating to Disk 3 which I don't normally have so I assume these were as a result of plugging in a USB device. There are also events relating to a windows update of VCLibs 12. how I can track down the culprit?

Oct 24, 2015After I upgraded to Windows 10, my system won't go to sleep automatically. The display will turn off after the idle time I've set but the computer remains on. I've tested with setting it to sleep after being idle for 1 minute, and only the display turns off. If I manually go to Power -> Sleep in the Start Menu, it will go to sleep.

Feb 10, 2016I have a custom built PC. Ever since then I haven't been able to go into sleep mode. As soon as I click Sleep the system powers down for few seconds then powers straight back on to show me login screen.
What I've tried so far is doing a reset with Windows 10 Pro to wipe everything but keeps files on SSD which is my primary. I disconnected my HDD which is for gaming and music so that it wont get touched. As I'm typing this the issue hasn't been fixed. The only thing that I did was some updates for OS, and that's it! I'm completely puzzled by what is happening.

Performance indicates that Sleep Mode is set for 30 minutes which I have not used, but when I leave my computer and manually select Sleep Mode is when the computer is turned off.
I checked the network adapter for the "allow this device to wake the computer" and all were unchecked

Dec 7, 2015My computer will go to sleep after 30 minutes, as scheduled, but only if I have not signed in to my user account. Once I sign in, it will not automatically sleep, and the monitor will not dim.
What processes are likely to be interfering with sleep? I can put it into sleep manually, and it will stay asleep. but it won't do so automatically, if I am signed in.
Performance :: System Turns Off At Night While In Sleep Mode
Sep 10, 2015I updated to W10 and have had no problems and this one really isn't a big deal but it's got my OCD going. I have sleep set after 25 minutes and that seems to work fine. It comes out of sleep pretty well too. But, it seems that ovenight, the system shuts down on it's own.
I've looked at the logs and scheduler and it seems that the UpdateOrchestrator was set at 3:30 am so I changed that time to 6:30 PM and the system turned off overnight again.
So, I left it awake one night and it did not shut off. Tried again the next night and it turned off. I'm going to try to remove the schedule entirely but from what I've read over the last few weeks, it will create a new task again.
What UpdateOrchestrator really does despite all my googling and don't have this problem on any other PC so I'm wondering if it has to do with hardware. WhoCrashed does not report any crashes at all. Nor do the logs tell me anything.
