Feb 23, 2016I suddenly lost my start menu. After trying several failed fixes I ended up creating a new user. I downloaded my pictures folder to an external drive and attempted to upload them into the new user pictures folder using Teracopy. Teracopy is now stuck at 97%. I can stop Teracopy but I need to add the missing (but unknown) last 3% of images to the folder. How can I do this by over copying the folder without creating duplicates?
If I knew which images, and videos, are missing I could just copy them to the new folder, but there is no list of missing images. So, I want to copy the images over again but have an option to skip all possible duplicates.

Oct 12, 2015I have a new laptop, so unless this is some weird feature that's specific to the laptop, then I assume it's a Windows 10 settings issue because I've never encountered anything like this before. I downloaded several JPGs and PDFs from various emails and began to change the arbitrary "234809238ksdfjskdfjsdlkf" type filenames to specific things indicating what they are, and I got done and realized all the stuff I typed was gone and the JPGs had changed to "filename(1)", "filename(2)", "filename(3)" and the same with the PDFs.. and "filename" was the name I'd assigned to the first file of each file type. The subsequent names I'd chosen were entirely different and the files were all unrelated to one another.

Sep 21, 2015Basically my story is, my previous laptop had a motherboard failure and I had some things on the hard drive that I wanted to recover. So I purchased a new laptop, put a ssd in it, installed windows 10, then I had a hard drive caddy lying about so I took out the optical drive of the laptop and installed the hard drive from my previous laptop with the assumption that I just take ownership of the drive and drag my stuff across to the (C: ) .
But after installing the hard drive successfully, it's now showing as the (E: ) it doesn't have all the files on it from my previous setup, instead it has the exact same files as the (C: ) . It's like whatever happened windows deleted the files and replaced them with the exact same files as the (C: ) ?I have a wordpress website on that drive that I really need to recover but absolutely no sign of any files from my previous windows 10 setup.

Performance :: Won't Delete Temporary Files
Dec 26, 2015My Inspirio 14 laptop currently has 5.74 GB of useless files sitting around in it, but none of the tools to delete them are working. Both Disk Cleanup and the option in the menu at:Settings>System>Storage>This PC>Temporary Files.Disk Cleanup won't even start, even allowing for some time. (I waited a full hour for it, still nothing.)I need to know where I can access these files to delete them myself. I already deleted things in the %temp% and prefetch folders, which brought it from 6.25GB to 5.74. I have tried running Disk Cleanup from every menu and shortcut it has, but none have worked.

I have 56gigs of temp files that I can't touch/find/remove. The delete temporary files will not work to clear this. I've tried various Ccleaner and disk clean up.

Dec 6, 2015I just received a new Win 10 PC with a 500 Gb SSD for my primary drive (OS and programs) and an internal 1Tb conventional HDD for my data (library).
I would like to transfer my programs and files from my existing Win 10 PC to my new PC. My existing PC has two conventional HDDs -- both are 500Mb. The C drive has everything and the E drive is a clone.
Both the new and old PCs are running Win 10 Pro x64.
What programs do you recommend? I do have Macrium Reflect that may do the job. I'll be checking with their excellent support this week.

and run sfc /scannow again, I always get this. It seems like my windows is always corrupted and I think that is causing my to get start menu, search menu, and task bar issues after stand by. What's wrong with my computer?
I have to do a clean install apparently, also the command broke my apps.

Performance :: No Files On Desktop - Store Not Working?
Feb 10, 2016I upgraded my win 7 to 10 like a month ago, and since then I have a strange problems on my (desktop) computer.
Firstly I noticed the problem with user accounts: I have 3 user accounts, and from time to time everything disappear from my desktop (icons and stuff) and seems like just rebooting works. Then I noticed that I can't view any images, as windows default "Photos" app suddenly stopped working, so my primary photo view app is automatically changed to "TWINUI" - whatever that is. And I can't change it, as the only option I can see is paint o.0 Then I wanted to go to store and see if I can get some other app for this, but now I can't even enter the store - it just doesn't responding at all, no errors, no nothing.
I have a latest win 10 build - and I'm updating it regularly .

Feb 10, 2016So I've done a sfc /scannow for maintenance and noticed that there were some files that could not be repaired. And instead of writing this on a old topic I made my own.
I found a batch file created by "kronckew" . The code is:

I will upload the CBS file and the file created by this batch. I really don't want to reinstall my Windows.

{2FD0AD87-973A-11E5-B6B9-ACFDCE21931D}
The first is 43.4 GB and the second is 26.6 GB. Together, they constitute 30% of my total disk usage or over 42% if you ignore my Linux VM.
Standard questions:
- What are they / what do they do?
- Why are they so big?
- Can I delete them?
I'm Running Windows 10 with a clean install originating from a late insider build. My present OS build is 10586.36. More information is available upon request.
Performance :: Delete Or Moving Files Has A Delay?
Feb 3, 2016Over last few weeks I have been noticing that when I go to delete a file or move it another folder it will actually take around 5-10 seconds to actually execute. I dont mean slow transfer but its like the process hangs for a bit. Weird thing is that it doesn't do it every single time, and hard to predict it. Everything else on my pc is working normally. My C: is a Crucial SSD
I have run disk check and disk clean and completes with no problem.
I tried running sfc /scannow both in safe mode and normal boot however it comes back with the following message. "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For
example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios."
Ok, so I start digging into google trying to figure this out as im not sure what im looking at in the logs and I come across a few other commands to try
Dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth - the message I received "The component store is repairable.
The operation completed successfully."
Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth - Error: 0x800f081f
The source files could not be found.

Oct 19, 2015In settings I have a large temporary files allocation which says I can delete, I click and it says "We're cleaning up your temporary files. Come back In a bit to checkout the results." I have left it for hours and there is no change. They are taking up a lot of room.

I think that it may be somehow related to a few errors happening on my laptop--such as live tiles not working, and the inability to use some apps without crashes.
Performance :: Corrupt Files On 3 Computers After Upgrading To TH2
Nov 15, 2015can some of you do an sfc /scannow and check your results with the November update installed? I always do this when i finish installations, and on 3 computers and 4 installations on them, 2 on one computer just to be sure i am getting corrupt files and struggling with my anger to not go back to windows 7 and get rid of all win 10 problems and MS ignorance. here is my results, many corrupted files in the log.. but is long so i don't post it...

Performance :: Strange Massive Deletion Of Files
Oct 14, 2015I encountered a very strange problem last night. A bit of backstory first:
This is my second 'reset' of Windows 10. My first attempt to update into W10 went smoothly for about 1.5 months, then I got a black screen that looped continuously and would not get past startup. After trying many solutions, I figured the installation was corrupted, and started anew.
Everything on this incarnation of W10 has been fine, for about a month. However, last night, something VERY STRANGE occurred. As I went to switch the video I was watching in VLC, I double-clicked a video to load into VLC. VLC changed the video, but my PC lagged for about 20 seconds (unusual for my PC to lag at all). When it stopped, I went to look at my desktop, which is on my first monitor (second monitor has video playing on it), which was previously covered by full-screen explorer to look for the video. I was extremely surprised when I noticed that every. single. icon. was gone from my desktop, except the folder that housed the video I picked to watch.
The only things left were the Garbage Bin and that folder. I figured they went into the Garbage Bin on mistake. Checked. Nothing.
Long story short, after I went into 'My PC' to look in other folders, I was utterly baffled to notice that 400 GBs of data had been deleted from my computer. Yes, everything that was on my desktop (massive amount of videos, games, etc) were gone. Simply.. deleted.
After looking EVERYWHERE for the files, included my Program Files, Windows.Old, etc, and realizing that the items had not only been deleted, but REMOVED FROM PROGRAM FILES in many instances, I did a System Restore. Unfortunately, this did nothing except restore the FOLDERS, as the files themselves are still gone, and the 400 GBs is still missing.
Performance :: File History Skipping Files / Folders
Feb 10, 2016I have custom libraries set up to back up my X:Pictures directory and it's been backing up just fine. I dumped a large amount of pictures to a sub folder and didn't get around to deleting the bad ones before file history threw them on my history drive. No big deal, I went through the files at their main location and deleted the bad ones and then simply deleted the entire sub folder from the file history drive and then forced file history to run.
It's no longer backing them up.
I changed my settings to back up every 10 minutes and keep forever and forced again.
There's about 800GB of free space left so that's not an issue. I tried a restart and I even tried to wait the 10 minutes. It's still not backing them up again.
If I delete a file inside that sub directory and leave it in the recycle bin and then go to previous versions for the sub folder, it shows previous versions. When I choose to restore from one, it tells me the file is no longer in the location. It seems there's an index somewhere that needs to be deleted that's telling file history that I have files backed up that I manually deleted. In relation to that, what's the best practice to remove backed up files that I wouldn't mind backing up again. The scenario I pointed out happens quite often actually. I take a thousand pictures and don't get to deleting the bad ones before file history backs them up.

Performance :: Using File History To Recover Files From A Different Machine?
Jan 14, 2016I had File History turned on an old machine that I'd upgraded to Windows 10. The machine was working fine with File History backing up files to an external storage drive. The machine died recently (motherboard completely not working) and now I have a new machine with Windows 10.
However I want to restore my files from the File History backups I had for my old machine, but I can't figure out how to make it work. Whenever I try to use the same external location as my File History drive it just makes a new backup with a different folder for my new machine.
How is this supposed to work?
