View 9 RepliesI recently upgraded to Windows 10 because there are a handful of upcoming games that I am interested in that are only available from the Windows store (Gears of War, Killer Instinct, and Quantum Break), and I also want to take advantage of dx12 when games start to utilize it. I've read that some people have noticed a minor dip in fps after upgrading, but my experience was so bad I had no choice but to revert back to Windows 7 Ultimate.
Examples:
Rise of the Tomb Raider- Windows 7-max fps-62, min fps-43. Windows 10-max fps-44, min fps-31
Just Cause 3 Windows 7-max fps-54, min fps-30. Windows 10-a consistent 30 fps.
Project Cars Windows 7-max fps-118, min fps-88. Windows 10- max fps 88, min fps-73.
Mad Max Windows 7-max fps-111, min fps-88. Windows 10- a consistent 60 fps.
As you can see, these represent more than just a "slight drop" in framerate which I was willing to accept.
My PC :

gtx 980 ti x 2 SLI
32 gb ddr3
Asus Extreme Motherboard.
My new custom desktop build is around one month old now. I am experiencing issues while gaming, for example AC Syndicate.
Sometimes I get an BSOD, but thats very rare. Also, the BSOD is freezing as well, so Windows is not even generating dump files. It only happened one time. That one time I collected the dumps to start a thread here: New Custom Build - BSOD within Games - Windows 10 Forums
But as BSOD crash analyst axe0 said, without dumps we cant analyze anything... What has been done?
- Reformatted PC, then I thought the issue is solved, but it came back...
- All non-microsoft services are disabled
- All startup entries are disabled
- Memtest ran around 12 hours, no issues
- Used HWMonitor to check temperature while gaming and freezing, no heat issue detected.
- Ran Furmark around 3 hours, no freezes...
- Replaced GPU, no changes...
- BIOS is up2date, but there is a new BIOS which I tried to install, but BIOS said "cannot read file"
ASUS
--> Currently running on v1104, published on 2016/01/14
--> most up2date BIOS is v1105, published on 2016/01/20 - not able to install it
I have Windows 7 pro installed and then upgraded to windows 10 with latest updates etc for it. it is installed on C drive like normal. i have another hard drive G that i use to install bunch of PC games ranging from new to old. I noticed that when some of the pc games want to install Direct X componets, MS .net redistro packs etc an error occurs saying i do not have Admin rights to do this. I know Win10 comes with Directx 11 and that the pc games have direct X 10 so i do not need that updated every time a game asks same goes with the redistro packs for .net and other comparable components do i need to install these components everytime i install a game? why am i getting an error in which i have to be an admin when i already am in the admin group.
View 1 RepliesRecently my computer has been making my games stutter and lag. This never been a problem as I have 16 GB of RAM and Radeon r9 200 with an AMD 8 core processor. What can I do to fix this inconvenience? I already uninstalled my GPU driver with DDU and reinstalled them. Nothing happened. I noticed this issue the most in Xcom and Bioshock: Infinite
View 1 RepliesI dunno whats happened all of a sudden. but after doing the recent windows 10 update (Major update) most of the games i play and applications i use are now becoming unusable!
Certain games and or applications are going to 100% disk usage which cripples performance until i close the game or application down. then everything returns to normal...
After doing a bit of digging ive came to see that its always the same issue
Image > File Name
Archeage.exe > Pagefile.sys
Photoshop.exe > Pagefile.sys
etc etc..
Will it remove all of my games i installed on the other drive such as D: if i upgrade from 8.1 to 10 ?
View 2 Repliesi'm having an issue with downloading apps from win 10 store. That is bassicaly what i get every single time. They did provide me with steps to follow, first two didn't find/fix any issues, third one i couldn't execute due to an error which i don't understand and therefore cannot fix on my own.
View 1 RepliesI've been experiencing the same crash repeatedly now, while playing any game(it's happened so far in Rainbow Six Siege, Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3) my screen will randomly lock up and there's always a loud EEEEEEEEEEEEE sound until I shut the PC off manually with the power button.
I've tried checking the event logs and there doesn't seem to be anything in there when the lock happens and the PC is completely unresponsive during the lock.
DM Log attached.

I have two physical disks in my notebook, one simple partition each, BitLocker encrypted. Drive C:, which is my system drive and drive D:, for some media stuff.Windows Version is Windows 10.0.10586 x64.I have configured VSS to use the "Previous Versions" feature in case I accidentally delete or overwrite a file. I did this on my Win7 install to and it saved my butt at least three times.
VSS is running (Volume Shadow Copy Service set to "Manual"), snapshots are there but when I right-click on a modified file (or on the root of the disk) and click "Previous Versions", my D: drive correctly displays the existing snapshots, on my system drive C: there is always a "There are no previous versions available" message. But, when I click the "System Restore..." button, I get a list with my snapshots, so I guess I could restore my system.
configuration seems to be ok and the two manual snapshots are there on both drives. For the moment there is no system restore point, but it does not work with snaps created by them either.

How do I get the games on Facebook in Windows 10 that I had on previous windows versions?
View 5 RepliesI need to downgrade to windows 7 again because some of my drivers are only supported up to windows 7, I don't want to bother with compatibility issues on 10. It shouldn't be any trouble but here is the thing. I can't really afford to redownload all my games because I do not have unlimited internet. Is there any possible way for me to keep my apps/games and downgrade to windows 7? Is all hope lost? (Upgrading to 10 was the worst decision ever, also for some reason there is no downgrade option in windows 10 recovery menu) I have my windows 7 disc.
View 1 RepliesI am unable to purchase any movies, games or apps on the Windows 10 store. When I click buy I enter my password then the screen loads for a few seconds then dims gray. The transaction never gets completed.
This does not happen when the software is free, only paid things.
I need finding the folder for the games I downloaded from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10. It gets annoying finding games through the search tool and having them pinned to my taskbar would also be inconvenient. I would rather they were in a folder.
View 1 RepliesI joined the insider program last year and basically upgraded to all builds from the very first public build. Before then, I was using Windows 8.1 PRO on my Asus Vivobook which was legit (pro license through my school's DreamSpark program).
I was on buil 10240 and decided to download the media creator tool for Windows 10 and chose the first option which was Upgrade my PC.
I chose to keep nothing. It installed, I logged in Windows is not activated. I try installing / updating apps from the store and it won't work. Each time, I get an email from Microsoft saying Device limit reached for installing apps & games. I removed 2 devices.
Now I have 2 devices running Windows 10, the Lumia 822 on insider preview, and Windows 10 Laptop and still have the same issue.
So my problems now are:
1. Not activated and
2. Can't install apps.
so I UPGRADED MY PC TO WINDOWS 10, AND I IMMEDIATELY GET THIS MESSAGE.
It looks like you've reached your device limit for installing apps and games from the Store on your Windows 10 device. If you want to install apps and games from the Store on another Windows 10 device, remove a device from the device list.
I have 1 device using Windows 10, and 1 computer at work running the insider preview, that's it.
So is this a sneaky [adjective removed ]you catch from Microsoft, I cannot have Windows 10 installed on more than 1 device ?
I recently reinstalled Fallout 3 but noticed every time I saved, they weren't detected in the Load screen. I checked the folder (C:UsersAlien2DocumentsMy GamesFallout3) and my saves were there! So the game is saving, but I'm unable to load any of them cuz they aren't getting detected.
I have Windows 10 which warns me the game is not optimized, but it runs fine. Also, I want to note I did not have to install Games for Windows Live when I installed fallout 3 through Steam, but when I click the warning Windows 10 gives me about the game not running properly, it sends me straight to an install link for GfWL which I decided to reinstall.
I had hoped to use the migrate method where you'd move the save files from My Games/Fallout 3 into whatever profile folder there is made from GfWL but after reinstalling and logging into my old account it didn't work.why I can't load my games?
Problem: When I click on my H: drive or try to access it from the command line, it gives me an access denied error. However, all of the applications that I have installed on that drive run without issue. So, there is some access there. (See attached images. The first shows the hard drive state in diskmanager and in windows explorer. The second image shows the minecrafter launcher profile (that it is stored in H: and the application running, proving that there is some access.
System: Home built PC: (C:) 240GB SSD for OS, (E:) 1TB HDD for file storage and backup, (H:) 1TB HDD for large applications and video editing files. All drives are Simple, Basic, and none have encryption. All use the SATA connectors.
Process: I had Windows 7 Home 64 bit with, among many other things, Comodo Internet Security, Virtualbox, ImageDisk.
During the upgrade process, I noticed that Windows 10, during the upgrade, ran the file system check and fix "problems" on the H: drive.
(Side note) Having forgotten to uninstall Comodo before the upgrade, I did not have network after the upgrade. The fix was non-trivial as I had to use a second computer to download the unofficial comodo uninstaller. Reboot. Uninstall the network devices. Reboot. And once Windows 10 was up and running, it reinstalled the network devices and the network was available.
Still, whether before or after the Comodo uninstall and reinstall, the uninstall of ImageDisk, or the uninstall of the Virtualbox network device, I have no access to the H: drive.
The new Parental Control system is generally a big step forward, though I disagree with the kids having to have an email / Microsoft account and would prefer to be able to leverage local accounts.
One area that could do with a little tweak is around the Screen Time. Specifically, I may want to allow my child an hour a day of general screen time, but limit access to a particular game / app to 1 hour per week to stop them getting obsessed. Sure I can just block them after the fact, but it would be better to allow you to define the rules up-front.
I have tried several times to create a system recovery drive on a USB.
Followed the instructions to the letter, and used two different brand, brand new USB's.
After initial start up it says I need a USB with at least 8 GB capacity, which these USB's have. But nothing happens, it just keeps asking for a USB after one has been inserted.
Jan. 3rd 2016 I have a 931 GB external HDD using a brick power supply and connected by USB. I wish to do weekly backups to it via Start/Settings/Update & Security/Backup.
It is not listed when I click Add a drive, although I can see and read it in This PC. I tried a restart but that has not worked. I do see a couple of USB sticks which are too small. Trying via Advanced settings is the same.
Prior to trying to add this drive I scrolled down and followed the instruction which said to delete the previous drive which was also an external HDD connected by sata. I used THAT drive via Macrium and it got carried over in the W10 update from W8.1.
I had upgraded to win 10 about two months ago. for the last two days my c drive is getting filled up automatically. It is in excess of 90 gb and yet yesterday It was full. I tried to check on dosv files etc but to no avail. I then decompressed all files using the option under properties on right clicking the c drive and got 25 gb free this morning. I am watching uselessly as it has already reduced to 19 gb and is reducing fast with no activity and no internet down load etc from my side.
View 4 RepliesI have recently updated to Version 1511 and thought I would try to create a recovery drive on a USB having been unsuccessful when trying in the earlier Windows 10. This time it seemed to be working with the system files box checked, though it seemed to take an age before the USB was required to be inserted. It said I would require a USB of 8GB minimum capacity so I used a 16GB size.
When it finished creating the drive ( I did not see the actual finish but no messages were left on screen) I noticed that the USB had only a little over 1 GB of information loaded.
I would probably find it useful if I could be told what files I should expect to find on the USB and the size of each. The files in my USB are titled: boot; efi; sources; bootmgr; bootmgr.efi and reagent. The sources file ( 1GB) is by far the largest.
I'm running Win 10 Version 1211 (build 10586.11) - i.e. the latest build with the latest update.
I want to create a new recovery drive but when I get to the window that says "Connect a USB Flash Drive" and the process comes to a dead stop.
-I'm using the same 16GB thumb drive that was previously used to create a Win 8.1 recovery drive so it should be good
-The thumb drive appears in File Explorer and I can read and write to the drive so the system sees it
I should also mention...
-I have attempted this with and without "include system files" checked.
-I find it interesting that after a thumb drive is inserted, I don't have the icon in my system tray that I would normally select to eject the thumb drive.
Nonetheless, I can read and write to the thumb drive. I've inserted the same thumb drives in another computer with Win 10 build 10240 and I get the USB eject icon on my system tray
My C Drive Keeps losing Space and yesterday i had 14gb then it went to 799mb and it keeps going down every 5 mins URL>...
View 9 RepliesI have upgraded a Win 7 and a Win 8 computers to Win 10. On the Win 7 I used an 8 GB USB Drive for Recovery and it did not use all of the space. On the Win 8 computer I'm getting a message that I need a 32 GB drive. I understand that it may also be backing up my Win 8 information, but 32 GB seems way too much. I hate to waste money on a drive that is not needed.
