Is there a way to get Restore Points created automatically periodically? The only ones showing in the Restore Point window are those I created manually. System Update has never created one.
View 8 RepliesI see that Win10 has deleted the function to schedule the creation of restore points! Supposedly it creates a new restore point before downloading updates (if the function is turned on; by default it is off!).
I like to schedule the creation of points every few days or each week to prevent viruses from corrupting things. This feature is so important; I can't believe they have hidden it, made it less functional, and turned it off by default!
Is there any way to run the creation button from the task scheduler or something to automatically schedule restore point creation?
how do i schedule system restore point in win 10?
View 2 RepliesNew desktop computer - Windows 10 Home. In System Restore, Configure, the Max Usage slider is all the way to the left. What does that mean? The hard drive is 1 TB, so I'm not concerned about how much it uses.(On my old Windows 7 desktop, I moved the slider to the right and it now saves fewer restore points.)
View 9 RepliesI have restore point space limited to 2Gigs on my Tablet. I've noticed that when a new restore point is created at the top of the list, an old one is removed from the bottom of the list. Sooner or later, I will end up with totally new restore points. Is there a way to save one specific restore point, and not loose it? (without actually backing up (not an option on my Tablet) ).
View 6 RepliesWhen I manually try and make a restore point using the windows program it ends with a property page error.
It still does the restore point ok and seems to work all right if I need to use that point to restore.
No error notifications pop up using the System Restore Point shortcut tool or when system does a restore point when adding new programs or drivers.
So my best guess is the error is showing up because this page is open
Does it on two machines running Home 10586.14
I'm running a task schedule to run a program at a certain time. It worked great in windows 7 but since I upgraded to 10 nothing happens when the task is run. I've run SFC and Dism see below and no problems found.
C:WINDOWSsystem32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
C:WINDOWSsystem32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

My monitor keeps turning on in the middle of the night (desktop on 24x7) and I went through the power settings (advanced) and turned off network/keyboard/mouse pwr mgmnt in device manager. It still keeps turning on overnight but I don't know specific time.
Under powercfg - waketimers I see one entry for mcupdate scheduled. I went into turn windows features on/off via control panel and under Media there is only Media Player, there is no Windows Media Center that I could uncheck. How can I turn this *feature* off and hopefully it won't impact windows updates, my malwarebytes or avast scans (which both run after midnight at some point).
I was thinking it was Avast turning on monitor to display results of scan. Only issue it sees every night is unable to access my Outlook *.ost files for 2 email accounts. I think I just need to know how to disable the mcupdate task but haven't found exactly where to do this. What is turning my monitor on overnight. I physically turn it off when done using the PC and this only happens overnight while asleep.
Since upgrading to w10 from 8.1, automatic shutdown from task scheduler won't work. After googling i can't find a solution.
It is saying "one or more of the specified arguments are invalid" which is strange as it worked in 8.1, all i have in the argument box is /s.
After upgrade to windows 10, tasks still run but don't appear in task scheduler so I can't edit them. Where are they kept? More importantly, how to I get them to show up where I can edit them?
When opening Task Scheduler I get at least 50 boxes I have to close before I can exit the program (or use task manager to do so.)
I installed windows 10 technical preview yesterday . I found a problem with system restore. It goes through everything normally but after it reboots I get an error. In the details it says:
System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
Source: %ProgramFiles%WindowsApps
Destination: Appxstaging
An unspecified error occurred during system restore. (0x80070057)
I like to run Windows 10 as a Standard User. I use Syncthing to sync my files from my PC to my laptop and another machine. I want to schedule syncthing so that it starts when I log on. However when creating a task, I get a message saying the user doesn't have permission. How should I do this? I've followed this guide but it assumes you are running as Administrator. Starting Syncthing Automatically Syncthing v0.12 documentation
I've solved it using the second part of the guide, using the shell:startup folder, however I'd prefer to use Task Scheduler if possible.
I was able to use Instant_Restore_Point under Win 8 (worked great), which I found here: [URL]
But I can't get it to run under Win 10, even after adding (in the appropriate place) these lines:
If instr(objOS.Caption, "Windows 10") Then
GetOS = "Windows 10"
And making the adjustment:If GetOS = "Windows 8" Or GetOS = "Windows 10" Then
How can I get this script to work?
I had 8.1 and now 10, but the issue is with a restore point i did, a program i was using for work was acting up after windows did an auto update.
Did a restore point and now things are not opening right, applications that use to open just hang...i want to reinstall windows 8.1 BUT i dont want to reinstall Photoshop and other essential programs.
I want to restore and keep files BUT if there is an issue with doing that then ill reinstall from scratch.
I have set up a scheduled task called its time and every time I try to run it here is what comes up. I am using Win 10 and have plenty of ram 12GB.
Here is message in attachment.
It has worked in past with Win7. But no go in Win10?? I'm not sure I did the image correct. And I don't know how to attach a document.
After the recent (automatic) upgrade to windows 10 ( I have been running windows 10 for months), I can sign in to windows 10 but the desktop that appears with my sign in is something foreign and all my files, pictures and videos are NOT in any folders under Documents. So I thought I would go back to a restore point but am a bit afraid to since I cannot find a Restore file and I don't know how Microsoft and windows 10 works in this are or if my files are included in the automatic backup by the "system restore point" process. Then I thought I should, on my other windows 10 laptops, "create" a restore point from time to time as I feel is needed.
View 5 RepliesI set tried to set up the mail app. I was not suscessful. Would not sync. No mail from Outlook. I read how to delete the mail app and reinstall it from the shop. I ran the program to do that and it work. It removed the Mal and calendar app.
When I tried to go to the shop app, and down load the current mail app, as instructed, the shop will only stay open 3 seconds and then it will close. I rebooted the computer several times, no avail.
My question is how do I restore my computer to just before I removed the mail app.
My problem is that I cant set a restore point as Windows says some files are missing. So when I try and reset Windows it says it can't find the reset environment.
View 3 RepliesAfter restoring my computer back two days using System Restore, I noticed in PC Settings>Personalization>Start>Choose which folders appear on Start, that all the options are greyed out except "Settings". I was wondering if there was a way to fix this? I already tried SFC /Scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, but neither fixed the problem.
View 4 RepliesOS is Windows 10 Home version.Want to create a custom restore point.Windows creates restore points by default by still I want to know if there's any way to create a Custom One,that might be like,of a specific Date and Time.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 this past week. All is well except for one thing. I received an update from Microsoft yesterday (Cumulative Update for Win 10 - KB3081424) and noted during the installation that no restore point was created. System Protection is ON and I am able to create restore points manually. Thus, this is only a minor annoyance since I can successfully create these points on my own. However, I would prefer for the system to do so when important updates from Microsoft come down. I guess it is possible that the update referenced above did not generate such a point but found that unusual since it is listed as a Cumulative Update.
View 4 RepliesEarlier one could create a reset/restore point of time, where is this option located in Windows 10?
View 6 RepliesWhen I access Task Scheduler, an error appears that says SqmUpload_S-1-5-21......... no longer exists. To see the current tasks, click Refresh. However, the same message appears when I click Refresh. I can close the message and it appears the Task Scheduler is OK. A person on the Microsoft boards gave me several steps to follow beginning with booting into Safe Mode. However, I received a message when I accessed Task Scheduler that it doesn't function in Safe Mode.
View 2 RepliesAt one time I was showed how to set an alarm using Task scheduler. It worked great when I was using Windows 7. Since I have upgraded to Windows 10, it doesn't work anymore.
I put in the scheduler the same words but when it is time to go, a pop up comes and asks
"what program do you want to use to open this?" I am using a mp4 file and I have it associated with my VLC player. It opens up great from within the folder however doesn't work using the Task scheduler.
I have a Windows 10 Laptop. Tried using Task Scheduler to automatically run Good Sync program on a predefined schedule. However, it fails to run the program. My user account has administrative priviledges.
