View 5 Replieschanging language in newly purchased Dell Inspiron laptop from Japanese to English for installing files and programs from previous USA computer. We changed the display language but when installing, the language reverts back to Japanese.

I just tried to update to W10...BUT it simply opens up the install dialogs in FINNISH and says I can only perform a clean install and not keep my settings and files because the OS is different language than the one to be installed (Finnish).
how do I change the install language to English - I assume it just checks where I am and assumes everyone here wants a Finnish OS as force-feeds it to me. But a complete clean install just now is a big no-no, so I want it to install it in English instead.
I'm using an english windows 10 with hungarian keyboard. Not even complicated, right? My location is set to Slovakia and my problem is that the date on my lock screen is in slovak and if I install anything with "use my default language" language option it's installed in slovak. My question is: Is there any way to change the default language without changing my location?
View 1 RepliesSo i changed my language from Norwegian to English just to try Cortana, and then i switched back again. But then i noticed that the "Most used" list of apps in the start menu was gone. Any one else who have experienced this? It has been empty for 24 hours now.
View 3 RepliesI downloaded the Win10 Home single language ISO for a clean install on a new build PC and skipped the activation step during install. Now I need to activate. If I purchase a copy of Windows 10 Home in store or digitally, will I be able to use the product key in my current install without need to re-install?
View 7 RepliesI've clean installed windows, reinstalled all my drivers, and reset the bios but my computer is still performing slow. I went from a MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 motherboard to a MSI A55M-E35 one and from Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 to Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8 GB) BLS8G3D1609DS1S00. I don't believe there should have been much of a performance change because of the hardware so I'm thinking I probably did something wrong.
View 1 RepliesI have a problem with a new Dell XPS 13 I bought in China. It apparently does not allow language packs, and I have a really hard time understanding most of the words. I tried returning the laptop and buying back in the USA, but the store didn't accept returns. Now I'm stuck with a basically useless computer that I bought for no reason and I need to install English onto the computer. Any ways I can do this?
View 1 RepliesIs there any way to change task priority in W10, as it was in previous versions (Task Manager|Set Priority)?
Dropbox likes to spend the first 10 minutes after waking up my computer taking 60-90% of processor cycles, and I've also noticed other processes which seem to pop up and monopolize my system resources. I'm running an older Acer with a fairly slow Core 2 / 1.4GHz processor and it's just choking on the load. Under W7, it was very usable but in W10 it seems like even getting keystrokes/mouse clicks to register sometimes is like watching the old Cable TV guide channel.
I just switched to a new motherboard, its an ASRock H97M-ITX/ac. Before I turned off my pc with the old motherboard I uninstalled some devices like the IDE controllers, network adapters, and sound. Then I installed the new motherboard, turned on the pc and noticed right away it was very slow but after a few restarts and installing the new motherboard's drivers it was somewhat faster but I could tell that it still wasnt right. I ran a benchmark on my ssd and got what I think is a really bad result:
Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 19.763 MB/s
Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 12.059 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 6.253 MB/s [ 1526.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 5.544 MB/s [ 1353.5 IOPS]
Sequential Read (T= 1) : 17.194 MB/s
Sequential Write (T= 1) : 11.953 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 2.197 MB/s [ 536.4 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 3.296 MB/s [ 804.7 IOPS]
I'm pretty sure this is terrible for a SSD. So I guess I did something wrong. I'm prepared to reinstall Windows, but thought I'd check in here first because it would save some time if I could just fix my current Windows installation. Obviously a clean install would be best but the time involved in getting everything set up again!
I'd like to hide the language bar, as I did with Win7. Currently I have 2 keyboard layouts installed (German, which I use and English) My display language is English, and it seems I cannot remove the English keyboard layout. Under Win7, when only one layout was installed the Language bar would disappear automatically: how to hide it in my case?
View 9 RepliesI admit I use Japanese keyboard input by default. It all went well, only that 5 minutes ago the "tablet side" of the Windows 10's schizophrenic mind started to speak japanese... the rest is still in english, its just the apps and the tablet things that appear in japanese now. Now, is there a big red language button somewhere that will make my WHOLE system appear in english?
View 2 RepliesTrying to update to W10 1511 10586. (From W10 10240) Tried normal update method from settings. Fails every time no error code just says it will try again. ( tried sfc /scannow no errors.)
So downloaded ISO media. Tried to install, it gets into installing then stops saying "trying to install different language" so can't keep all apps and files. All Language set to English-UK, tried changing to English-US still no joy. Tried reinstalling earlier W10 10240 media from CD and get "Install failed" box.
1) Is there a way of finding what W10 thinks is the original install language?
2) How do I find the error code for the failed install so I can find out more about what is causing the failure.
I have a small problem with languages in windows 10 (originally the same problem was in win8, but I didn't solve it there as well).
I bought the laptop with german windows. But whole my life I worked with english UI interface. I know what and where I should search any setup features and how they call in english version. And of course with german laptop I got a german keyboard, that a little bit different from the english one (and that is the cause of my problem, because only letters Y and Z are changed).
After the win10 installation I downloaded and installed language pack as recommended and make one as primary language. Beside it i have german language (because it match with keyboard layout) and russian language (as native). BUT, I don't need to have an english language in language bar at all, because I have the same german with correct keyboard layout. I would like to switch between only two layouts: DE and RU.
Question: how to get rid the english keyboard from language bar, leaving the english UI at the same time?
So my laptop was purchased in China which came with authentic windows 8.1. I recently upgraded to windows 10 through official pop up notification. However after trying all means I couldn't alter the display language. In the settings-region and language-language-add a language/I am able to add any language in here but when I click options in one of the added language, there's no option of "download language pack" as many tutorials on internet.I have tried under English (United Kingdom) "set language as primary" but after restart, nothing's changed . Still display Chinese.
In control panel-add a language-options-windows display language/Again there's no option of setting a new language as display language, it says under windows display language "not available in this version of Windows" (something like this, I did the translation).I can add or change input keyboard without problem. The version of windows currently in my laptop is "Windows 10 Home Chinese Version" (something like this, again I did the translation). Is this the reason I can't change display language?
In build 10240 I can download a Danish language pack in Settings. However I can't set it as primary... How to do this?
View 5 RepliesSo every time I boot windows 10 it seems to think I want that useless language bar (who doesn't know what language their machine is using?) after having disabled it every time prior.
What files to delete in order to force it to be unable to activate the language bar?
also it seems win 10 isn't letting me delete the u.s or n.z language packs despite only ever using the U.K pack for got knows what reason.
As you can see on screen, I changed language from German to Slovak ,but not all text have changed.
View 3 RepliesDuring installing W10, I clicked the wrong language, making some squares in Start Menu are labelled with language which I cannot read.
How do I change to the right language?
I bought a new laptop here in japan
But Cant change my language to english
Also cant download language pack
For some reason my computer installed windows 10 in Korean. Luckily I can understand a bit of Korean but I have tried changing all the location and language and keyboard settings back to english but everything still remains in Korean. It even says the main language is Korean. My usb that allows me to connect to the internet isn't working with windows 10 atm so I haven't got internet on my pc. I've tried all the settings on my pc and changed everything possible back to English but all remains in Korean. Not sure if I'm missing anything but it just wont work.
I tried making English the default language to use when going Settings -> Language and Time -> changing English to be my default. I also went into system locale and changed it to English but nothing. I tried restartng and signing out of my account and my pc several times. It shows Korean on the start screen too.
I bought my computer in spain and paid at the shop to have the language for w 8.1 to be in English. Will the upgrade be in English or Spanish. If Spanish what do i have to do to go to English.

Apparently cortana wont work unless i change to English US rather as uk, how do i do this...
View 1 RepliesLove Windows 10 so far, has exceeded my expectations. Apart from one annoying thing: the language typing features notification. I turned off windows tips in settings a while back and the notification stopped. But now it's back! How to get rid of it once and for all?
View 3 RepliesI was wondering how you change the language in the start up? Like when the computer is shutting down/turning on, when you wake it up from sleep and enter a PIN, etc.
When I was picking the language in the initial start up, I accidentally chose French because the touchpad was really grippy. I've changed the language back to English for when I'm actually using the computer, but the start up and lock screens are still in French.
