Is it possible to change the edge icon on the tile to one from a web site such as Google or Ccleaner etc. on a small tile. Some come that way automatically, but for others one has to hover the mouse over to see the text.
Does W10 allow pinning files to any Taskbar icons, specifially EXCEL and WORD and /or any others. I could do this in W7 but lost my pinned-file capability with the new W10 upload. I used it quite often but now at a loss .. so far do not like W10.
I've read many posts about hidden icons or icons showing wrong images etc, but my problem seem to be different from others.
When I log on after a reboot, I only see the search icon and the Task View icon in the task bar even though I have several other programs pinned.
If I open a pinned program I see it in the task bar and have the option to unpin the r-click menu, but if I close it, the icon disappears again.
If I open a program that is not pinned, and I r-click and pin the program, the task bar seems to 'refresh' and suddenly I see all my pinned programs in the task bar - and they all work when clicking on them.
How I can make the task bar show the pinned programs without having to pin a new program after every reboot?
I watched on of your videos and I'd like to know how do you pesonalise the taskbar like that. I mean, I want the pinned icons to be shown like a grid and not in a list format.
I have a high resolution screen, so the taskbar seems disproportionately small by default/ In prior versions of Windows I would just increase the taskbar height and icons would adjust in size accordingly, but not so with Windows 10. How can I resize them, or is this deature just not implemented yet? I am using build 10130
When ever I try to move my pinned tiles around on my start menu, I get 'Already pinned' with a red circle with a line threw it... I tried un-pinning and then repining them, but still get this problem..
I beta tested Windows 10 several months back, previous to the version I tested, if you removed all the pined tiles from the start menu, it would look more like the conventional start menu. However in the few version I tested, even if you unpinned all the tiles, the start menu was still 1/2 the screen, the tile area was just blank..
I have a free upgrade from Windows 7, but If they didn't go back to allowing you to remove tiles from the start menu and get more of a traditional start menu, I'm sticking with Windows 7..
Also, if I did upgrade to Windows 10, can you go back to windows 7, either by Uninstalling the upgrade and/or be reinstalling Windows 7? or does it convert and remove your Windows 7 license key there by deleting your ability to go back to Windows 7?
I updated my tablet from win 8.1 to win 10. I pinned the store app to my taskbar and is was there for a while, but then disappeared. When you point the mouse to where the icon should be, the app is there and will open, but you see no icon. This also happens for the netflix icon and the shazam icon. All other icons are okay. I honestly am not sure if this started before the upgrade, I think it did, but not positive. I have tried to unpin and repin them, but the same thing happens.
Did the Win 10 update last night. Now I can't run my pinned Excel files ("The item you selected is unavailable. It might have been moved, renamed, or removed. Do you want to remove it from the list?") But when I say Yes, it's not removed. If I click the icon for "Unpin from this list" it is also not removed. If I right click the item on the Pinned list and click "Unpin from this list" it is not removed. If I drag the file from its folder down to the icon ("Pin to Microsoft Excel") nothing changes.
The update apparently changed the locations of all the pinned files from my nonstandard location (D:DropboxCurrent where D is my Data drive) to elsewhere (C:UsersDaveDocumentsDropboxCurrent, which location does not exist). I can't figure out how to change this. The pinned list seems to be somehow locked so I can't change it, and this is the essence of the problem.
I'd been using this method on Windows 7: Windows Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target And I take it that this is how it's done in 8: File Explorer Taskbar Icon - Change Open To Target. Will the latter tutorial also work here in 10?
Just upgraded to Windows 10 and I don't seem to be able to find the Tiles/Icons to open up my emails I use both Outlook and Yahoo and they were both easily accessible through the Tiles before I upgraded. What can I do to restore them?
I would like to refresh start menu icons in Windows 10 and haven't been able to find any info about it. These is the rebuild icon cache thread but that method works only for the desktop and explorer icons - not for the start menu icons (tiles).
I have many portable programs that I run off my USB stick and I've placed tiles for them in my start menu. Most often there are not problems with them and even if I start Windows without the stick the icons are intact. However, from time to time (after some windows updates or unexpected system shut down) the icon cache gets wiped out and the icons are gone - I can see the tiles with some generic icon instead of the programs' icons. I would like to clear this cache so that Windows rebuilds the icons when my USB stick is inserted.
So far I have discovered that resizing the tiles refreshes the icon as well - so this is at least some partial workaround - not ideal because I have to do it one by one for each tile. Can I refresh all the tiles in one go?
I have reported it (and others) on the Nvidia forums. Doesn't seem to happen for light gaming for 5 minutes or so (and of course won't happen after playing solitaire) but after heavy gaming (Battlefield Hardline, the free Star Wars beta) for 30 minutes or so, after exiting most of the start menu is often blank. Takes a reboot to get it back.
I do not believe it's corruption issues on my OS or hardware issues. Things I've done:
1) SFC/scannow no issues
2) Ran this "Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + "appxmetadataappxbundlemanifest.xml")} to reregister icons.
HP Envy desktop came with Windows 10 Home already loaded. Set it up with my program shorcut icons in the taskbar. Everything working just fine for days, and then all of a sudden (well maybe not as I had just installed updates from MS) the taskbar no longer shows those icons and the Windows Start/Search/taskview icons on the left and the HP Support/Notification icons on the right show but all are inactive.
I have a question, under "Start Menu -> Settings -> Notifications & actions -> Select icons which appear on the taskbar, how does one do maintenance on the list so it only shows items that are currently installed as it seems uninstalled items are still showing up on the list." However the answer has been tried but did not solve it for me. I still have uninstalled app icons showing up. I have deleted "iconstreams", there is no "pasticonstreams" to delete, I have ran registry cleaner, disk clean up, registry search for the apps, c: drive search for left overs etc etc etc to no avail. The icons or app shortcuts must be hiding
I'm finding that my clean install of W10/64 gets corrupted "Store" and "Edge" taskbar icons if it's been running for any length of time or if I've been gaming. I haven't tried to troubleshoot or isolate the cause. I've only taken note of the problem. Shrug.
A reboot cleans them up.
Edge has white behind the "e". Store is just a white square. My other taskbar icons are good. See the pic.
