Play Buttons Not Working - Audio Dropping Out And Sounding Robotic
Jan 4, 2016
So I've used Windows 10 for about 6 months now without any issues beyond a game or two not working, which usually have obvious solutions or unofficial patches. This one stumped me though.
Basically, all play buttons stop working randomly, as well as audio dropping out and sounding robotic, as if slowed down significantly, upon returning.
Some background, this issue began a few days ago, after my third monitor broke. I won't go into that, as it shouldn't matter, but after it broke and I unplugged it, the issues began to arise. I was attempting to edit something in Premiere Pro when I noticed it first. The preview window would not play, although the play icon would turn into a stop icon. I didn't think much of this, but decided to test something else by making a new project and putting some other footage in. This worked. I assumed that the issue was with my SD card, as the other footage was gameplay recorded directly from the PC, whereas the other footage was taken from my camera. I rebooted, and the issue was gone... for a bit. A little bit later, the same issue occurred. This time, however, no footage whatsoever would work. Even YouTube wouldn't work. The only software that could play video was VLC. I did have this issue before, I believe sometime in November. That time a reboot fixed the issue for months.
Later I began to notice other issues. Audio would drop out for a few seconds, no matter what was playing. Spotify, YouTube, Premiere, everything. Sometimes it would come back normally. I've checked my interface, and it appears to be fine (it's a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). Sometimes audio comes back robotic, like it was slowed down by editing or by using the speed option in YouTube. I've never had this issue with Windows 7.
I've reset to a slightly earlier build of Windows, but it hasn't worked. Since I've had 10 for more than a month I cannot revert to 7 without a clean install, which I'm hoping not to do, mainly because a clean install would obviously be terrible since I'll have to reinstall everything, but also because I do like Windows 10, and have had no issues so far.

Recently I've been on Windows 10 Pro x64 bit, I did a clean install after the free upgrade and loving 10 so far..
I've been playing tons of my regular games.. Battlefield 4, ArmA 3/ ArmA 2 DayZ Mod ( OverPoch ) , Insurgency, etc.. mostly FPS and survival games.. lately in ArmA 2 I've been getting this lag/freezing and the audio will be like robotic till the freeze stops and the game runs like normal again..
this happens throughout play sessions in ArmA 2 DayZ mod and has happened like once or twice in Battlefield 4 but hasn't really happened again in awhile.. I'm trying to see if there is a fix to this or if it's just an ArmA issue or Windows 10 and ArmA compatibility issue..
My Specs:
Windows 10 Pro x64 bit - Clean install
MSI GTX 970 4gb OC
i7 4770k 3.50GHz
MSI B85-G41 PC Mate(MS-7850)
111GB ADATA SSD S510 120GB (SSD) - for My OS
465GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKS-00UU3A0 (SATA) - Programs
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM001-1CH164 (SATA) - Games
16gb DDR3 ram
1000w PSU
I have updated my onboard sound drivers ( Realtek) to the very latest along with my chipset..

First off: My drivers are up to date as from August 15, 2015 and it didn't solve anything.
The problem: My media buttons (the ones on my keyboard {picture below} of my Razer keyboard and my HP Spectre x360 Laptop) don't skip, pause or play a song in Spotify anymore. To explain more clearly I made a video about it on YouTube where I illustrate the issue.
I read about disabling Windows media player sharing network service in system configuration but as soon as I'm out of that window or close the system configuration window then the media buttons don't work (regardless of the fact that the Win Media play sharing netw. is on or off (after pressing apply). It's all illustrated in the video though, so if it's not clear what I mean check out the video.

I have a HP 15-E092 Laptop. I upgraded the laptop to windows 10 a few months ago and the touch pad and buttons worked fine.
Today I was using the mouse pad perfectly fine. I then went to sleep for abit and when I came back to the laptop, the Mouse pad and left and right click buttons no longer worked. I have checked in device manager and can no longer see the entry for the synaptics pad that was there before.
How can I get this working again, as I prefer to use the pad as I use the laptop alot on the move.

I have a Dell Latitude E6520 running Windows 10 Pro x64. When I try to watch YouTube I get no audio. Spotify plays and gives no errors but doesn't have sound. When I plug in headphone sound plays but as communications headphones.
When I try to play a test sound through Speakers/Headphones I get an error that says "Failed to play test tone." When I try to troubleshoot it can't identify the problem. I have attached the report from troubleshooting.

Ever since I have upgraded to Windows 10 I have lost pretty much all of my bass in my headphones and my microphone now sounds like a robot to a point that you are not even able to make out what I am saying. I have a Realtek audio card and I have tried playing with all of the settings. It recognizes everything as being plugged in as well.

Received an automatic update for my Windows 10 a couple of days ago and since then my PC has been sounding the notifications sound (as if I'm receiving a new email) every minute or so without actually reporting any new notifications or new emails. I've unplugged all externally connected devices (in case it was a device issue) and have found that the only way it stops is if I close Outlook (2016). I usually leave my Outlook open so I know when new emails arrive - but as it's sounding notifications for no apparent reason I've just closed it down to get some peace. I've even tried setting the notifications sound to 'none' for Outlook in the Notifications / All Settings / System / Notifcations & Actions tab - and yet it still sounds a false notification when Outlook is open.

We have a Dell Studio XPS 8100, connected to our router with an ethernet cable, and so far the internet connection has been great. However, after upgrading to Windows 10, the connection kept dropping out after a while, a youtube video would get stuck at a certain moment for example.Resetting the router only works temporarily, the cable is connected in the right way, there don't seem to be any new drivers that need to be installed. After troubleshooting the issue seems to be ''Default getaway not available''

Starting a couple of days ago my Windows 10 computer start menu stopped opening (although I can still right click on it to shut down). This coincided with a chime constantly sounding. I'm not sure if this is related, but there is a pending notification on the lower right, but I can't open that to see what it says.
I tried reinstalling Windows apps with powershell, but this didn't do the trick.

I upgraded last night from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro.I am connecting from work with RDP to my home PC. RDP is Working, but there is no Audio. This is an existing connection that worked yesterday when both PC had Windows 7 on them.I have checked group policy on the server and it allows audio redirection. On client it is setup to bring audio to remote pc as it has always been. Client is with updated rdp client to allow protocol 8.1 with remotefx.I don't have another pc with Windows 10 to check if this is some incompatibility between Windows 7 as a client and Windows 10 as host. I did install the official Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Android on my phone and tried with it, but the result is the same.

I don't know if this is a 10 problem or computer problem. My internet will drop every few hours while I am using it. I originally thought it was my cable provider, and most of the time I rebooted my modem, and this seemed to correct the problem. Then I just rebooted the computer and it also solved the problem.

This problem started a month or two ago and basically whats happening is every once in awhile (20 minutes to half an hour). My computer emits a loud buzz sounding very much like an electrical short like when you have an amp turned up and a cable shorts out when wiggled.
However there is very little wiring that can go wrong in the back of my pc. I've made sure the speakers are all firmly plugged in etc. Anyway could this be indicative of a hardware problem? It seems like the "buzzing" sound is getting worse as in it lasts for a longer interval than originally. It began as a 1 second burp but now continues for 2 or even 3 seconds at times.

I have just updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my laptop and everything works fine except for videos. When I try to watch a video on Windows Media Player, I get a black screen but the audio of the video works fine. I have been using the VLC player without problems. YouTube videos for Microsoft Edge didn't work until I switched to use software rendering instead of GPU rendering. If I try to use the Film & TV for my videos, I get an error 0xc00d11cd (0x80004005) and to visit Xbox support. In the Xbox App, when I try to watch a friends video, it says the video could not be decoded. When I try to stream my Xbox, I get a black screen but the audio of my Xbox works with what I am doing on my Xbox controller. So the streaming works, but no video. i have tried everything.

I currently have an Asus Vivopc desktop that I use as an htpc and it is connected directly to my LG LB5800 tv. The PC has onboard speakers which sound terrible and when I connect the tv via HDMI, the video works fine but no sound comes from the tv.
I still get sound from the PC but no matter what I can see, there is no option whatsoever to have the TV as a playback device. It isn't listed at all. I've reinstalled the intel and realtek drivers but that didn't work. I've opened up the playback devices, shown disabled devices and it didn't show up either.
With Windows 8 it worked flawlessly. With Windows 8.1 it would only work when I rebooted the computer with the TV on, otherwise the device would disappear as soon as it was turned off. With Windows 10, it just isn't there at all.

I just upgraded my ASUS Laptop from Win 8.1 to Win 10 X64. (It has Via HD Audio)
Initially, sound worked but the microphone didn't. I fussed with many settings but nothing seemed to work.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, then the mic seems to work but sound doesn't.
Some of the events that I have encountered are: One message said "Windows has detected that Audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems". I disabled all enhancements but nothing changedBased on other posts, I tried to change the default format to 16 bit and other Hz. Nothing worked.I tried to play a test tone in the speaker setup and got the message "Failed to play test tone".I tried to update the drivers but was informed that I had the latest drivers
I went to the VIA web site to look for new drivers but there are none listed for Win 10.
Is there something else that I can do or is it just a matter of waiting for new VIA drivers? (VIA HD Audio is such a common audio chip that I find it hard to imagine that VIA and Microsoft haven't solved the driver problem - particularly given the Insiders Hub process!)

So, after fruitless attempts at fixing the issue using other people threads I've decided to create my own.I'm one of those unlucky to be bugged by sound issues after an upgrade to Win10 from Win7. My Siberia v2 headset microphone doesn't work.
What I've tried:
1) Updating the VIA HD drivers, including the latest pack for Win10 (the one that marks your devices with (Win10)).
2) Lowering (and increasing) the bits and sampling rate
3) Installing the older drivers in compatibility mode. The one for Win7 gave me a blue screen and failed to install, Win 8.1 drivers made no difference, mic still didn't work.
4) Installing the generic Windows high definition audio device drivers. No difference.
The new driver pack from VIA still fails to set the correct device as default, enabling 'Headset' from the front panel which isn't even connected inside. Now, the 'speakers' option enables the audio playback, but microphone is still unresponsive. It behaves strangely, sometimes the volume indicator seems to be picking up noises, but it lasts only for a few moments after which there's nothing. Obviously, I've checked the micro on another PC and it works fine.

I have run into a weird problem after upgrading from a GTX 770 to an R9 390.For some reason, the audio on my left channel stopped working. I have tried re-installing my realtek drivers, using only the windows native audio drivers, and making sure that the AMD audio drivers have NOT been installed on my PC. All three yielded the same results. Also, my headphones work flawlessly when used on another device so the problem must be within my PC.
I have also checked to make sure that the audio levels were equal on both channels. I am not able to use the front audio ports on my case for testing because they also stopped working. Unfortunately, I am not sure if my front audio ports stopped working due to this same problem or if it had been broken for awhile.
