Since I installed Windows 10 and I set up the power saver to recommended settings:
Turn of the display: 10 min
Go to slip: Never
It always change by itself to:
Turn of the display: Never
I do not know what to do to keep the settings I saved
I am running Win 10 on a laptop. I have changed all the power settings to "NEVER" for everything. The laptop is on AC (not battery). No power outages.
But when I come back after being away from the laptop for an hour or so. It is in sleep mode (I think) - I have to turn the button on and it comes on (to the way it was when I left but loses the connect to 2 of my USB ports. SO I have to restart the computer to be able to do anything.
I have upgraded three different machines to Windows 10 in the past month, and all three (two desktops and a laptop) have the same problem. I can't open the dialogue window for screen saver settings. When I click the settings link in "personalization", nothing happens. (It's not grayed out, it just doesn't do anything.) I can try to run it from a Cortana search, and nothing happens. I can try to run a CMD line commend, and nothing happens.
This isn't a problem with USB peripherals; I have nothing plugged into the desktops other than a keyboard and mouse. Nothing at all plugged into the laptop. I don't have gaming apps or flight simulators or anything else running. These are very clean systems that were running flawlessly until the Windows 10 upgrade. And the SS problem started immediately after the upgrades.

View 1 RepliesPower & Sleep settings won't save my screen brightness settings. On my plugged in HP laptop default the screen brightness is set to maximum despite making changes in the Power & Sleep menu screen. I've even tried creating my own Power Plan but the next time it restarts it changes to the HP recommended power plan which sets the screen brightness to maximum.
View 1 RepliesI have all the setting I can find that when I close lid to laptop it does nothing when plugged in. I have it set to do not sleep unless I tell it too period. Yes went through 'all' settings. So it will run scans, maintenance etc during night but like lid closed. But when I get up and open lid it wants me to sign back in and scan say it couldn't run.
View 1 RepliesI added a registry tweak that unlocked the power option to park the CPU...I am running a PC so battery life or power use is not an issue..just want to be clear about the min and max settings....thought it would be just ON or OFF...its the %s that confuse me....So if i set the min to 100% I assume that turns oof parking completely ?If I set max to 100% this allows the CPU to go to the max it can ? So is the min setting for parking ? and the max to just restrict the max the CPU will run ?If these assumptions are correct....what are the %s in between for ?
View 3 RepliesI am having an issue with the Windows 10 machines that I have installed thus far. I do not use a screen saver, but use the power settings to turn off the display after a certain period of time. When the display goes off, it forces me to authenticate to get back on the computer. I have tried to shut off the screensaver, check, than uncheck the box for "On resume, display logon screen". No matter what I do, I cannot get this to NOT make me authenticate when reawakening the display.
I do run a domain at my house for background info. Been working on this for a few days now with no real progress.
When I walk away from my computer, I want it to go to sleep in 20 minutes. Sometimes I return after an hour, and the computer is still awake. There's obviously a rat in the woodpile here. Some software is changing my sleep setting from 20 minutes to "Never" without my permission. Sometimes it will sleep normally for a day or 2, then suddenly something resets my sleep time to "Never".
Is there a way I can block this activity, or re-set it to the proper 20 minute setting on each startup?BTW, I had the same problem in WIn7 and Win8. I was hoping it would be fixed in Win10. It has not.
My usb fan i bought that sits under the labtop to keep it cool don,t go off now all the sudden since i had to change the bios setting to allow usb devices to wake computer.because i changed that setting so i would not haft to keep pushing the power button to make it go to sleep an since then now my power to the fan won,t go off.

View 13 RepliesI recently updated my HP ENVY laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 & immediately started having issues with my WIFI speed. I was able to connect to the wireless network just fine with no limited connectivity, etc but the speed crawls. It's only my laptop...all other wifi devices are running with no noticeable difference. I went through a bunch of troubleshooting steps and couldn't get it to improve.
I was able to figure out my wifi speed is great when my laptop is connected to ac power, but immediately drops speed when unplugged. All of my initial troubleshooting was on battery power.
I checked the driver Power Management tab and unchecked the Allow the computer.... option. Also Control Panel-Power Options and changed the Wireless Adapter Settings to be on Maximum Performance for both On Battery & Plugged In.

So, last week I upgraded my Toshiba L850-161 from Windows 7 to 10. Since the upgrade my laptop now starts up as soon as the lid is lifted, without me pressing the power button to start the computer. I am shutting the computer down via the start menu.
I thought this problem may be caused by the fast Start-Up in Windows 10, but my friend also uses this feature on his laptop but he still needs to press the power button to start-up.
I then did some research and found the Panel Open - Power On software included by Toshiba. I checked to see if this was activated but it was disabled by default.
I'm a bit stuck here. According to my settings my laptop shouldn't start when the panel is opened, but it does, and I don't want it to. I'd rather start my laptop the old-fashioned way - with the power button.
My computer was upgraded to win 10 pro 64-bit from win 7 pro using the media creation tool on a lenovo b40-30 laptop. I havent used it in two weeks. The power button lights up but nothing is on the screen. I dont think the hard drive light is on (the can symbol light.) Not even the bios shows up (the lenovo logo).
View 3 RepliesI was using Windows 10 from Last 2 months . Yesterday I did a clean install of windows 10 .everything went well. But now when I try to shut down or restart , windows shuts down. display goes off but laptop power doesn't. Fan and all power indicators stay on.

I am using a HP envy i7 laptop i usually don't switch it off regularly instead i keep it into sleep mode, last night it failed to come back to life from sleeping,it brings blue screen error message that DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE even after several restarts. The old one is perfectly serviceable, but slow (i3-2365M, 1TB hdd, 8Gb mem, on-chip graphics ). The new one is a i7-6700HQ, 512Gb sdd, 1TBhdd, 16Gb mem, NVIDIAGeForce GTX 960M . Both laptops have Windows 10 OS. How can I transfer my files, data, settings and programs to the new laptop?

I went to the forum and read how to shut the password feature off by holding the windows key + r , typing the letters provided and unchecking the box. The system then asked me to restart. My laptop will not restart - blue/black screen appears and nothing else.
View 4 RepliesI recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:
Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown
The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.
I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

View 9 RepliesMy screen saver is set to display my Pictures on Shuffle after a minute, then go to Sleep after 25mns. There is nothing wrong with my Power settings, as that goes off OK, as one person had trouble with both. I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago from Windows 7 without any problems, and my screen saver has actually come on once since doing this.
I have changed to a WI FI modem about a week ago, but I'm sure the I had this when the screen saver came on. I do have a Logie Tech Skype auto mic plugged in which I don't use regularly, but haven't tried unplugging this to see. Everything worked perfectly with W7 and WXP before that. Even with these though, I did used to have the odd time when the screen saver didn't come on, but it always righted itself. Just wondering why, if it worked once, that it doesn't work now. My Desk Top just stays put for 25mns now that the screen saver doesn't come on, then goes to Sleep, but I know I could change the time for this.
Even if we don't need a screen saver now, I liked to see MY Pictures slideshow coming up, as they looked really nice. If it is a Microsoft Error, then I hope they will fix it. Mine's not due to poor maintenance, as I have AVG Tune-up and Security installed as well as the AVG anti-virus. The Tune-up keeps the Registry clean and cleans up the Desk Top and space management etc.
Screen saver will not start. No shutdown, sleep, etc. using the Power Management. Stays on desktop forever. Can shut it down manually, but not using the Power Mgmt tools.
