Previews For Images ( Thumbnails ) Are Gone In Explorer
Dec 28, 2015
In explorer under view/options under View "Always show icons never thumbnails" is unchecked. I also tried to choose "Restore Defaults" from there as well with no luck. Yes, I closed and re-opened explorer after the change.
I under went under Control Panel/System/Advanced/System Properties/Performance and made sure "Save Taskbar Thumbnail Previews" was checked as well as "Show thumbnails instead of icons" was also checked.
Recently windows started having a problem displaying thumbnails for JPGs. If I load a folder of images it shows them all for a moment, then swiftly changes loads of them to white blanks.
A bit more investigating and I realise it's only for image files over 10MB. I'm a photographer, so looking at images litterally all day, so it's quite an annoyance! Or course I use other software for sorting, organising, resizing etc, but plenty of times you just want to load a folder and see the images.
Here's a screengrab, sorting a folder by size, anything larger than 10MB is a white blank icon:
My laptop is displaying the wrong thumbnails after i upgrade to windows 10. When you open the file explorer and preview an file the next file your going to preview will be same thumbnail to the first one even the other files.
I installed Windows 10 last week as an upgrade from Windows 7, and the internet part is working good. But something with the file explorer didn't work. The Document, Pictures, Music, and Video files are still there, but the thumbnails load slowly, or not at all. If it means anything, there's a green bar that slowly moves across the top of the screen.
I have unchecked the option to 'show icons instead of thumbnails' (view>options>folder options) and I have checked 'show icons' (performance>advanced) but still I get icons instead of thumbnails. I have closed and restarted file explorer multiple times to no change. I have posted the screenshot below to show the current settings.
Before reverting Lumia 640 back to WP8.1 and Lumia Camera, I was being bugged by Windows Camera Living Images (shortly LI). It seemed that camera took just still images. I don't like a camera I can't trust.
Today I took some LI with 8.1. Lumia Camera is faithful to the setting and takes video clip every time. But how to view them on W10 PC? No way. So I opened one succesfull W10M LI (visible in W10 PC and phone) in order to duplicate the structure with 8.1 LI files, but the container is more than just simple zip, maybe a JPG with zip content added into it.
Then I noticed that failed W10M LIs from last Saturday (nice christmas lights in a shopping center with "dropping" lights) also had correct LI naming and they were the right size (around 3.5-4MB when still image is <2MB). I unzipped content and - living.jpg and living.mp4 were there. One image can be found at onedrive for those who are interested.I have also some other pictures with LI naming but the size is too small and no zip content in them.
How is it possible that LI images are created by the camera but neither phone nor PC are capable to show them?Is there a way to create W10-supported LI from WP8.1 LI files? App or batch file? Creating zip file and appending it to jpeg file does not seem to work...
With Adobe Reader DC, the folks at Adobe made every thumbnail a plain pdf icon. They removed the preview where the pdf icon is replaced by the first page of the pdf file. Seeing the pdf content is much more useful than just looking at the same icon for every file.
I am trying to find a way to prevent image thumbnails from displaying on my Desktop only.
I have my folder options set to allow for thumbnails. I embed images often, and I find it much easier when I can look for the image by sight, rather than by name only. I am trying to find out if I can leave my folder options set to allow for this, but not to allow thumbnails on the actual Desktop.
I thought that thumbnails would only work when the icons are set to size 'medium' and above, however I did right-click the Desktop and select "Small Icons," but the files still show as thumbnails.
I included a screenshot below of the thing I'm referring to, because I've never been told what the actual name of it is.
Basically if Windows has been running a long time, the thumbnail previews for windows (from the taskbar) start to hang indefinitely until I click on them, or in an unfocused window. As you can imagine, this gets really annoying when I just move my cursor over an item in the taskbar, and one of these thumbnails pops up indefinitely, until I manage to make it go away manually.
Should windows 10 (by default) be displaying thumbnails within explorer for m4a files? I'm browsing my iTunes media folder and I can see thumbnails only for .mp4, .mp3, .m4p but not for m4a. If I play an m4a file within media player or iTunes I can see the album art. It's just not on the file when viewing it from explorer. The settings are correct. I have no additional codecs installed (or Quicktime though that's prob not relevant). Can it only display them with a codec pack downloaded? Seems strange that it does display thumbnails for the m4p protected files though.
The caveat is that if look at an album folder that contains m4a files then I can see the album art preview on the folder, but double clicking into the folder where the specific songs reside just shows the default windows music icon. Whilst m4p, I don't see album preview on the folder, but clicking into the folder shows the individual songs with their album art thumbnail.
I was trying to save an image from the internet and my fingers slipped on a key. Since then every time the save-as box opens, where the files should show, it is just grey. I will attach a picture to show the issue. Need getting back the thumbnails which should show where the grey bit is.
my video thumbnails wont update. It shows me the preview of the first video thumbnail but when i select another, the preview remains the same in the preview pane. I use the "List" view. i am a video editor who just pdated to windows 10

I was using windows 8.1 -- and didn't have this problem -- when I upgraded to Windows 10. I like everything about 10 so far EXCEPT this.
Someone in another forum recommended installing VLC media player and associating all video files with it. This worked for some users who were experiencing this issue, but it didn't work for me unfortunately.
I was using my laptop last week to find all taskbar icons were all using a default icon and that the desktop icons and file explorer icons had all gone completely blank (no icons or Thumbnails).I also cant right click and get Properties to work on Drives in file explorer.System Restore no longer works, I get a "Catastophic failure" warning dialogue every time i open the panel to create restore points. If I open the "system" menu the written options down the left hand side are no longer there. If I open Control Panel and it is set to display by category there is nothing on the screen, but if I choose view small icons then the text comes up but no icons.Apart from these problems all programs function properly on the laptop, most icons are working on my start menu.
Was originally a Windows 8.1 installation upgraded to Win10 about 6 months ago. What has caused this, no new hardware or software. No changes of anything. My laptop always runs problem free!I did however notice and only saw this once, a system restore point from 6am in the morning, seems to of been created by a windows update while I was asleep, but after I saw that and tried to restore I have never seen it again, but looking on windows updates there was no new update that day.Tried setting up a new user but the issue exists in the new account also. I have also done virus checks and disk checks, restarted explorer.exe. No luck in safe mode either. Reinstalled graphic card drivers. Tried lots of delete and rebuild icon cache suggestions. Used windows defender to scan and Malwarebytes
Ran Dism commands Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Ran sfc /scannow
[code]....
I ran chkdsk /scan but nothing found and this error only appeared once on a chkdsk scan
My video thumbnails in preview pane wont update. It shows me the preview of the first video thumbnail but when i select another, the preview remains the same in the preview pane.

After the upgrade, all my files , folders and shortcuts icons and thumbnails starts to have this blue connection arrow on the right upper corner. What does it means? And how to get rid of it?
I got the free Windows 10 upgrade yesterday and everything seemed to work really well until I tried using the Search Bar.The problem is that although search results are returned (The indexing seems to be correct) the images displayed under the Photos section are mostly missing their thumbnails which makes the feature pretty useless. Some images have thumbnails but most don't and it isn't any specific file type that does or not display it just seems random.
If you start up the Windows Photos app, it opens with a screen displaying all the photos in your user/pictures folder in thumbnail form which I find highly annoying. I want it to start with a blank screen. Is there a way to do this? I thought I might get it to clear up by pointing the folder it monitors to an empty folder and removing the user/pictures folder from settings but the thumbnails are still there...
I just installed the BIG Windows 10 update (can't remember what it was called, 1511 or something) and so far it seems all right, except my desktop is a little different. One, my desktop background picture was removed and needs to be reset, no big deal, but all my Microsoft Word files open in Wordpad now (yes, I have a current license, just bought 2016 a few weeks ago--Excel comes up normal...) and the thumbnails have these mysterious blue arrows that point at each other in the corners. I think they might have something to do with file compression? But the arrows are also on some of my program icons in the taskbar, too.
I'm using Insider Preview 10166 on my Lumia 1020 and just noticed something. Default camera app does not capture raw and there is no Lumia Camera app in the store. In older versions of Insider Preview I could download Lumia Camera, but now it's not available. Is there any way to capture raw? It's the reason why I got L1020 in the first place, are they going to remove it?
Windows 10.I am at this location: This PC > S3500 [my Nikon model] > S3500 > DCIM > 100Nikon
File.. Picture Tools Manage Rotate Left Rotate Right View [The word 'View' is a bit faded, so maybe needs to be live]
When I click Rotate Left or Rotate Right nothing happens. I need to rotate many images before I upload them to Amazon.com, where they cannot be rotated. By the way, if I need to go into Windows Live or the Edit, where you use the paint brushes and such, (No longer have the original MS installation disc.)
