Processes With Elevation Terminated Randomly?

Feb 10, 2016

Programs I run with elevation (i.e. as Administrator) have been randomly terminated. I'm not sure why this is happening. Is this a new Windows 10 security feature?

Examples: I run Process Hacker with elevation to access all its features and allow for services to be stopped, processes to be killed, etc. But Process Hacker is one of the applications that is itself being terminated somehow at seemingly random intervals. It will be running, tray icons and all, then suddenly be terminated. I won't know it has been killed until I move the mouse cursor over its tray icons, which disappear as soon as I do.

There are several other examples of programs I always run with elevation. They are all being terminated at the same time, but I'm not doing it. Nothing jumps out at me in the event logs.

EventID 7031 Errors - Service Terminated Unexpectedly

Jul 11, 2015

I have cleaned up most of my errors but these four keep being produced at shutdown in the System log.

Event Id 7031 service terminated unexpectedly.

User Data Access_Session2
User Data Storage_Session1
Contact Data_Session1

What to do to stop them? OK, they don't seem to be doing any harm but it is nice to keep a tidy ship!

I got rid of a long list of DCOM errors relating to the Runtime Broker CLSID. That was satisfying!

Performance :: Processes Becoming Suspended

Feb 10, 2016

For some reason starting about a week ago certain processes occasionally become suspended on my laptop. I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro on a Sager laptop with 16 GB of RAM and then i7 processor. The processor becomes suspended varies but IE 11 is one of the ones that become suspended and when it does obviously cause all kinds of problems. I'm attaching a screen capture showing 4 processes that were just suspended when I checked. How this is happening and how to prevent it?

The Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

That's the Event Viewer error message at every reboot (appears to occur during the shutdown phase).

There is a concurrent fault listed for the Canon scanner driver, CNC210C.DLL, which is not corrupted.

Performance :: Which Processes Prevent Computer To Go To Sleep Mode

Dec 7, 2015

My computer will go to sleep after 30 minutes, as scheduled, but only if I have not signed in to my user account. Once I sign in, it will not automatically sleep, and the monitor will not dim.

What processes are likely to be interfering with sleep? I can put it into sleep manually, and it will stay asleep. but it won't do so automatically, if I am signed in.

Keeps Randomly Hanging

Feb 23, 2016

Bought a new HP laptop with 8Mb RAM and 2Tb HDD. Installed Office 2016 and using Panda Gold firewall and AV. Windows frequently freezes when using various programmes and all I can do is remove the battery and disconnect mains power. Now I run without the battery installed as I need to shut it down and reboot frequently. What is causing this problem and how to fix it? Never had this problem with Win 7.

Randomly Wakes Up From Sleep

Jan 28, 2016

So as the title says, every now and then Windows 10 randomly decides to wake itself up from sleep. It doesn't happen at any consistent time, some days it stays asleep until I actually turn the PC back on. Using powercfg /lastwake just gives me a wake history count and doesn't provide any information.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I've tried googling it and have found similar complaints but no real solution. It's not hardware that is waking it up and I have already disabled the "allow wake" setting for my network adapters in device manager.

Resizing Text Randomly

Oct 25, 2015

I have had W10 for three days and it has been sending me mad. The text has been resizing and windows closing randomly. Particularly bad when typing. Finally found the cause. The new feature which allows two finger use on the mouse pad is a nightmare while typing. My wrist or fingers touch the pad briefly and then when another thing touches it then all sorts of things happen. So as I typed the text kept changes size. I found myself changing the text size back every few minutes.

It took me some time to find the problem and disable the two finger ability. It might be nice to have if I am editing pictures but it is very difficult to get too. The control panel is difficult to find. It is not in the menu.

I seem to have spent most of three days disabling everything in W10. I seem to have paid for something which is useless.

WiFi Disconnects Randomly

Aug 9, 2015

So, firstly I would like to say that I'm sure most of you have at least heard of this issue if you have never directly dealt with it yourself. This did not just start happening after I upgraded to Windows 10; in fact, it followed me from 7 to 8 to 10 now. Although, each time a new Windows is installed, the issue stops happening for a few days. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

The Problem : I can be doing anything. Listening to music, playing a game. Then suddenly, everything will stop and I'll look. Sure enough, I've been disconnected from my internet. Again, this has happened throughout Windows 7-10. All I have to do is manually reconnect, and I'm back. But usually only for a few more minutes. What I have noticed, however, is that it happens more frequently depending on what I'm doing/playing; I just don't know what makes this occur.

What I have tried : I have been trying to solve this problem for years, which obviously means I have scoured the internet, searching for every possible method that has been suggested. Here's what I've attempted:

Reformatting Windows (like I said, it goes away for a few days after a reformat/an upgrade, but it never stays away).Uninstalling my Wireless card and having Windows automatically reinstall it (this seemed to work for 30 minutes.)Playing with my router settings.Changing my Power Save plans.Playing with the Firewall settings.Uninstalling programs that seemed to be part of the problem.Searching for viruses.

Nothing was effective. And if it was at all effective, it was only temporary.

Computer Randomly Turns Itself Off

Dec 1, 2015

I have recently upgraded to windows 10 pro from windows 7 and prior to this i have been getting BSOD and it turned out to be a faulty ram which i replaced. Now my pc runs with two different brand rams bu have same spec, ddr2 2GB 800.

anyway I have my pc connected to the 60 inch tv in our lounge and I have been getting this problem for a week now. My tv would suddenly lose signal and after 5 seconds the computer turns off. It's not a BSOD or instant shut down. This happens once or twice a day. When i turn the pc back on the lights on the pc turn on but then about 5 to 10 seconds after it shuts down again (still no signal on tv). After i turn it on a second time it turns on fine with signal coming back on instantly. This happens everytime (i have to turn the power on twice to have it actually come on and let the first time turn itself off).

I have checked the temp and its perfectly normal. I dont play games on it, just watch youtube or movies etc.

Could it be the new RAM? I haven't tried taking it out but my pc was fine up until last week (its been atleast 3 weeks since i've upgraded).

edit: only setting i remember changing is the display setting. "change the size of text, app, and other items: 150%(recommended)" this to 100%. the settings to this changes randomly after the restart or on normal boot. sometimes when i boot its on 150% even after changing it to 100% the day before. and after several hours pc would turn off and when i turn on again its on 100%.

Mic Stops Working Randomly

Oct 14, 2015

It all started when I installed Windows 10 on release day. (I was using windows 7 before). I downloaded mumble and then all my games and started playing with friends. After a while I noticed that my friends weren't responding to me I alt tabbed and realized my push to talk wasn't working (this goes for every voice program, the same thing happens the push to talk key stops working). In my Recording options the mic isn't disabled. When I go into recording devices after it stops working when I speak I do not see any green bars, when I go to steams voice test and nada, no green bars. To fix it I either go into Mumble settings and just hit 'apply' or I open up the mumble audio wizard and close it right away and my mic will work again along with push to talk. For some reason this makes my mic work again.

I've tried a fresh install of windows 10, I've tried different mics, different sound cards and the same thing keeps happening. Before I reformatted it got so bad it was happening every 2 minutes. Now it happens every couple of hours and progressively happening more often. To me it seems something is disabling my mic and doesn't re-enable it.

Computer Randomly Restarts?

Aug 16, 2015

So I'm a programmer. Sometimes I take breaks, go to my couch and watch TV for about an hour. However, I still have documents open on my computer. My monitors turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Randomly, I will see my monitors turn on and a blue screen on my computer saying something along the lines of "Getting your computer ready". Then the computer restarts. This happens at various times, I've seen it happen at 1:04am, 4:38pm and 10:15pm. The timing seems completely random and its a major issue because it closes all my documents.

PC Randomly Turned On During Night

Aug 15, 2015

My pc used to be on windows 8.1 and I never had this problem. Ever since I installed windows 10 I have noticed that it has been randomly starting up. I shut it down and then wake up the next day finding that it had randomly turned on during the night. It shows the log in page as usual with no signs of being locked, standby or anything else. it shows as if i shut it down and turned it back on again manually but i haven't. This only started to happen after I updated windows 8.1 to 10 so i dont think it has anything to do with the motherboard.

Hard Drive Randomly Filling Up

Oct 16, 2015

My 256 GB hard drive has zero space left (programs now shutting down, etc.). I deleted or moved all duplicate files ; documents and applications only account for about 50 GB. When I free up a few GB, it rapidly fills up again. This is not a defrag issue; this is something eating up my hard drive.

Right now, those files are lurking in my Intel ProSet/ wireless software. The Apps heading under System Settings says it contains 105 GB which is absurd. How do I stop this? When I stop one app or file, another grows elsewhere.

In the beginning, I thought it was a synchronization problem. I think it started when I activated Dropbox sync. I found another Dropbox file in my backup, so I thought maybe it was a continuous feedback loop where Desktop copied Backup, copied Desktop, copied Backup. But I shut off Dropbox and it still continues.

Any thoughts? BTW, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad S1 yoga with 8GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD hard drive.

BSOD :: Crash And Reboot Randomly

Nov 13, 2015

I have a gaming PC that I built about 18 months ago that runs like a tank except for this occasional lockup I get. It locks up entirely and then reboots shortly after. It's only been doing this for the past few weeks and I get no BSOD. Today I checked the event viewer and saw that it saved a memory. dmp file with more info but after trying everything I can not get windb to open the dmp file due to symbol errors. This board has a killer Ethernet adapter with garbage drivers that I think are my issue. The only issues I've had with this system over the past year have all been related to the killer Ethernet drivers. The system hang usually happens when I'm in a download client or leave something downloading for an extended time.
