View 2 RepliesI upgraded to Win10 last month, use Firefox browser and gmail. Often when typing something, the computer will erase the last several letters, usually no more than 7 letters.....nothing obscene that may be recognized and erased. How to keep from erasing?

Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard
Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck). When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
E.G.:
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up –Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )
This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.
In -Device Manger – Keyboards- The keyboard driver is dated 2006 so tried to update the driver but says I have the best driver software for my device is already installed. Noticed there are 2 entries for the HID Keyboard Device both are the same driver version. Maybe I should delete/uninstall one? Both (under event tab) , dated 310715 Device migrated, Device configured(keyboard.inf) and Device started (kbdhid). It was prob around this date I first started having probs.
Pressing Ctrl on hard keyboard highlights Ctrl on onscreen keyboard only whilst being pressed. Let go of the hard key, the soft key turns off.
Sometimes the 9 gets stuck and does 99999999999999999999999999999 but saying that I just restarted the machine and pressed the key -d- and it acted like a stuck 9 as in 999999999999999999999 not dddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.
I've NOT tried the following:
System restore (seems harsh)
Rolling back the keyboard driver (not sure how on win 10 )
Deleting the keyboard from System (not sure how on win 10 )
Here is the problem:
In file exlorer:
when I have the preview pane is open,
I select a file,
I start typing the name of a document to find it, but the file explorer doesn't take me to the file. (it doesn't find it/highlight it)
When I turn off the preview pane, the file explorer finds the files without any issues.
In Windows 7, it did this without a problem, in the same folder.
Admittedly, I do have over 40,000 files, but since it worked fine with Windows 7, I don't think this is a problem with the number of files.
Today after starting my computer, I realized that quick access items disappeared and I am unable to pin anything.
In addition, all pinned items in the menu that appears when you right click on the file explorer disappeared as well.
I am attaching images to clarify the issues. How to solve?
When I try to drag shotcuts to it, it shows a no symbol (red circle with a dash through it) no matter which item I try to add to it. I had no problem adding anything in it every time I upgraded or reinstalled Windows 10 but after the last reinstall I'm having this problem. I suspect that this could get resolved by some registry hack.
View 2 RepliesWhen I download a pdf file (A billing statement in this case), I would like to select "Save As" and be able to select the folder directly from one of the folders shown in Quick Access that is shown in File Explorer without having to rummage through all the folders on my three drives. Right now, "Save As" causes the folder selection to start with My PC. Is there an easy way for the list of folders in Quick Access to be displayed when I select "Save As" to save the file? Starting in My PC makes me go through the mess of finding the folder in which I want to save the file.
View 2 RepliesIt happens on right clicking on left pane only..or document, music, downloads.
View 1 RepliesSo File Explorer Quick Access shows Recent Folders, because I pinned it to be there:
But, when you go to "Save as" dialog box, Recent Folders inexplicably disappears from Quick Access:
Why is that? How can I fix it so that "Save as" and "Open" show Recent Folders in Quick Access in navigation pane?
I was erasing a movie (The Mists of Avalon). The folder with the files inside could not be deleted, so I opened the folder and deleted each item one by one. But one file could not be deleted. It was called "installer.exe" (without the quotation marks) and weighed 0 Kb.Eraser could not get rid of it and rmdir q/ s/ The Mists of Avalon did not erase it either. how to get rid of that file and folder?

Until today I was able to open .jpg etc pictures that were emailed. They were shown in Photos.
Photos is showing pictures on start up screen as slide show but apparently is not accepting additional ones.
When I search for *.mp4 in Public Folders > Video, the results don't show the file. The problem is the file is in there. When I search *.* in Public Folders it is not shown either.
When I search the entire C: drive, though, it shows up in the Public Folders > Video directory.
I did a download of Windows 10 a while ago, but didn't update straight away. I now want to upgrade but I cannot find the file to do so.
I used to get notifications telling me to do the upgrade. The reminders really annoyed me as they kept popping up in the most inopportune times, so I turned off the reminders off according to the instructions for not getting the reminder.
What to do to the actual upgrade from Windows 7.1 to Windows 10.?
I have a custom hosts file which has a lot of entries redirecting back to 127.0.0.1 (this is normal). One of my DNS servers is being updated, so I added a new entry to the hosts so I could get to my sites. This worked fine.
After about 30 minutes I noticed I'd lost access to my site and when I checked my hosts file it's reverted back to how it was first thing this morning. All of my custom entries are there apart from the one for my server.
So something is monitoring and resetting it.. I've ZoneAlarm firewall and anti virus, avast anti virus and super anti spyware installed. I'm assuming it's one of them, but I'd like to be sure.
Is there any way to monitor the hosts file and see who/what is changing it ?
I was transferring all my photos on my phone to a folder on my desktop, named 'Photoa'. A couple of seconds after the last photo was copied over I watched the folder suddenly disappear from the desktop. I was not performing any action at the time.
A search of the computer has failed to find it, a check of the recycle bin turned up empty and I also attempted to use 'Recurva', which didn't find a single photo (about 400 or so were copied to the missing file).
The only clues are when I search for 'Photoa' on the computer, which gives:
A broken shortcut at "C:UsersDanielAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentPhotoa"
A broken internet shortcut at "file:///D:/User%2520Data/Desktop/Photoa"
I'm not sure where to start, I am quite desperate to get the folder back as I cut/pasted my pictures - I do have a backup but this problem happened seconds after transferring!
My neice had a virus which I successfully cleaned out, but now every time I start up the laptop I get an error message that it couldn't load "C:Usersher nameAppDataLocalCall KitCallKit.dll" and I am having a real trial with attempting t identify what program is calling for the absent .dll file.
View 4 RepliesOne thing that drives me bonkers is having a mouse pointer open any file whose name I might inadvertently hover over for a few seconds. I want files to open ONLY when I double click them. In earlier versions of Windows it was easy to turn the open on hover feature off, which I always did. However there is no option to turn it off in Windows 10 that I can find anywhere in Settings.
View 9 RepliesBeen trying M. Reflect free edition on a Dell Studio XPS 8000. I did as usual and created a boot rescue CD with the PE file with no problem. Then I continued to make an image of my boot disk C and save it on my hard drive D.
Went to D and the image is there. Next I booted with the restore disk without problems, but after choosing restore, I can't find the image that was created on the D hard drive. I noticed that the naming of the drives also has changed and as such I looked everywhere but I can't find the image and as such I can't restore.
After I backup I get an error message: The system cannot find the file specified (0x80070002).
View 13 RepliesSo I used a AWESOME custom picture for my lockscreen. I look at it so much, I realized I wanted it as my desktop. Only one problem....I cant find the damn picture! Where I put it on my computer. Shouldn't windows be maintaining a copy of the file somewhere? WHAT CAN I DO?
View 1 RepliesCannot move, copy or delete folders in widows 10 file explorer. I get the message "cannot find item This is no longer located in F:video. Verify the item's location and try again." Does not matter which drive or which folder, this is always the result. I can however click on the folder, open it and move, copy or delete the files inside the folder. I am then stuck with empty folders all over my computer.
I have been using Windows 10 for a number of months without this issue, just stared happening this morning.
I upgraded to windows 10 today and when I restart my PC, I always get an error issue called rtwlan.
"cannot find device configuration file, load default settings"
Is there anyway to solve this issue and is it related to my wifi drivers?
Recently I am notice Media Player is crashing while Groove cannot even find a single media file out of 100GB music. Audacious stupid Groove asks: "My dear please tell me where to search for your lovely music files?", but then turns over and goes to sleep. Very disappointing. Now I cannot play any music neither by Media Player nor Groove.
View 1 RepliesSo when you click All apps, you get an alphabetical list. If you have more than two programs installed, scrolling through it becomes cumbersome.A friend from the Insider program mentioned clicking on the title letters in the list, which wasn't at all obvious, and that produces a list of all the title letters, and enables you to jump to the letter of interest... if you know it [1]. But it takes three clicks to get to the list... Start / All Apps / A (or whatever).
Is there any way to reduce the number of clicks to get to that title letters index?Or am I better off to install Classic Start Menu, once it is working for Windows 10?
So, I got a new DELL XPS 13 last night and on my other computer, I used to do alt+164 to get the "n" but on this computer it does not work. I also tried Ctrl +~+n and that did not work either.
Is there a setting I have to activate? I already have the "Spanish Keyboard" installed but I don't think that makes a difference...I'd just like to know the list of keyboard commands
I can capitalize every letter/symbol except for letters "t" and "m." In order for me to capitalize them, I have to use the caps lock function.
I can't even use the on-screen keyboard to capitalize said letters, it simply doesn't go through.
This might or might not be a hardware issue as I've used two different mostly new keyboards and the function works fine on a different PC.
