Jan 21, 2016In Windows XP, when I print a doc from my PDF viewer, I can select my network attached printer's FAX machine and send a fax. In Windows 10, when I print I have a print destination of 'Fax' which puts me into the Windows 10 Fax code which tells me that I don't have a fax machine set up and then we go downhill into total irrelevancy.

View 9 RepliesInstallation :: Boot Error After Clean Install To SSD Old HDD Still Attached
Sep 23, 2015Inserted my new SSD to a SATA3 port and, next to my HDD 1TB, and went for a clean install right away. The system installed without problems (wiht the old HDD still attached), then i booted up the system (was a bit weird, because two versions were showing, however i formatted the old windows partition) and installed my programs. I saw that a 110 MB of data were still sitting on my old partition where the Windows 10 was earlier. Tried to delete those files but could not. However I shut down my pc and wanted to boot up again. Then it showed me a screen with "select proper boot device or restart computer". I went to BIOS to see if my SSD was set to primary boot device, but it was. But when i manaully select the boot device, my SSD, after starting up the computer, it boots into Windows and is running normally.
Can it be that there is no boot partition on my SSD and it wants to use the boot files from the HDD?? I also tried to unplug the HDD and boot up, but the same massage was showing up. But when i select the boot device manually it works.

Jan 10, 2016I have recently purchased a new 4k television and sometimes plug my laptop via an HDMI cable to it for gaming. When I connect, the desktop is zoomed in and some games do not run because of this.. Now I had this issue with a standard 1080p TV, it was a simple fix of adjusting the Change the size of text ,apps and other items slide bar under settings/system/display. Games would start working and thedesktop would resume its normal size. But with this 4k TV, the Change of size of text bar and not selectable along with a number of other options, like resolution (I have to do this via the Intel Graphics Control Panel. Sep 11, 2015Since upgrading to W10, My puter will no longer load when I have my external hard-drive attached. When I switch on my puter, I get a black screen with the message 'Non-System disk or disk error, Replace and strike any key when ready'.
When I reboot with the ext HD disconnected the reboot is fine and W10 loads no problem. If I reconnect the Ext HD while the puter is up and running, no problem, and both the computer and now attached external hard drive function perfectly.
I have tried reformatting the external hard drive but I still have the same start-up problem when the ext HD is attached on start-up.

Aug 1, 2015I am on an iMac using Bootcamp & I have just upgraded from Win 7 to 10. Working GREAT! My only problem is Win 10 cannot read my 2 x WD 3Tb USB hard drives.
Error message" The parameter is incorrect". In Disk management it says the drives are active but RAW. I have tried the same two drives on another Win 10 & Win 7 machine & they are showing as NTFS & can be read, so no fault with the drives. I have tried changing the drive names etc but no change. So why does one machine refuse to read these?
I cannot find any solution apart from reformatting the drives which I do not want to do.

Oct 23, 2015Ever since I upgraded to W10, I get this problem wherein if I insert a disk in either of my two optical drivers, it would take Windows forever to read them and if I click them before they complete loading, Windows would become unresponsive and Explorer would crash. Mind you, it also happens even if the contents of the disk have already loaded. But even though the contents of the disk have showed, they all have blank white icons.I already tried sfc /scannow and they it reported no issues.

Aug 7, 2015I did the update "circle" my computer completed it restarted and my monitors have been black and not reading my gpu now for about 4 hours. This is my second time tryingg the update. I have a nvidia 660 and made sure I had the right drivers installed before doing this. Is there something I can do to my tower to get the "asus" screen to pop up. Sep 5, 2015Since upgrading to Windows 10 my PC has been unable to read any CD/DVD disc I put in. I hear it spinning so I doubt there's any problem with the CD/DVD Drive itself.
I was thinking it could be a driver issue, but there doesn't seem like there's any problems with it. (As usually there's a yellow ! mark if there seems to be a problem.) How to resolve the issue?

Aug 12, 2015Since upgrading my SATA DVD/CD RW will not work. I insert a disk the light come on showing it is reading and than the drive opens and the pop up box appears stating "Insert Disk" . So I cannot install any of my software. I have read that a lot of people are having the same problem.
I went into Device Manager and it show this device is working, the drivers show 2006. The Drive is TSST corp CDDCDW SH-203N. I am Dual booting and at least get some work done on the tried and true Win 7 Ult.

When I'm reading pdf files using adobe reader, the screen locks itself after 3 minutes as it is supposed to when I'm not using the pc. But I am using the pc and I'm scrolling through the pdf file using the touchpad and yet the screen still locks itself after 3 minutes. This doesn't happen if I'm watching a video or working with documents

Dec 19, 2015I found out that the hard disk is 100% utilized. In Task Manager, the process that utilizes the disk the most is ESET Service. If I open Resource Monitor there are many instances of the System process that are reading the disk, not writing it. I have two partitions on my disk - one for the system and the other one for data; the extensive disk reading is done for Pictures (I assigned a folder with pictures, about 140 GB in size, to the system My Pictures folder) on the data partition.
I am not running any tests in the ESET Endpoint Antivirus software and it seems to me that the high disk activity starts when I do not do anything and just e.g. browse Internet or look at something. So, it feels like Windows is doing something, but what it is and how I can influence it. If it were disk optimizations I think I should see also disk writes, not only reads. Could it be that Windows is doing something automatic with Pictures, Documents, etc.?
I wonder what is going on - I dislike the fact that something is going on with the hard disk, making is 100% utilized and making other work very slow and non-responsive.
Drivers/Hardware :: Eizo EV2750 / Windows Not Reading Monitor EDID / Only Recognizes As A Generic PnP Monitor
Feb 10, 2016I recently got a new monitor, an Eizo EV2750, which Windows only recognizes as a generic PnP monitor.
I've tried connecting it thorugh DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI without any luck. The often mentioned sollution, to unlplug everything and wait 10 minutes, does not work either.
The graphics card seems to read the EDID however, as in nVidia control panel it displays correctly as EV2750. Same thing with other applications, like DisplayCAL which I use as my color management system.
Seems like it's only an issue with Windows. This issue, however, also means that I can't get full functionality from the monitor. For instance, the ambient light sensor does not work (which is typical when Windows doesn't recognize the display properly).
Networking :: Goove Music Not Reading Music From NAS
Aug 7, 2015I have mu music collection on a QNAP NAS. This is mapped as a network drive. I can add this a loacation for Groove to get it's music from but while it accepts this is doesn;t actualkly find any music even though it's there. Odd thing the old 'Music' app did work after the upgrade to 10 but then seemed to stop after the recent update when I think 'Groove' replaced it.I found this on a MS article: If you have music stored on a network or network access storage (NAS) drive:To use a network drive with the Music app:
The drive must be hosted by a Windows operating system.You must have Windows Search and Desktop Experience features installed.You must enable Indexing for the share.
