Recent Items Not Showing In Quick Access Or Start List
Nov 27, 2015
I've only just upgraded to windows 10, so still getting to grips. I have the recent items option enabled in both the quick access panel and jump lists, but they're appearing in neither.
I've learned to like the "Quick Access" feature of Win 10. Recently it has shown a strange trait. That is, instead of listing my "frequent folders" in a list in a pane at the top of the window and "recent files" in a pane at the bottom at the bottom of the window (in a separate pane), both "frequent folders" and "recent files" show up on the same detail list (in a single pane).
Likewise, the entries are all sorted by name instead of (recent) date, as I would like.
See image:
Here is a sample (imaged grabbed from Internet) of how it should look. ("Recent folders" in a separate pane at the top and "recent files" at the bottom. This is how I want my Quick Access window to look again.
How can I get Quick access to once again separate the "recent folders" from the "recent files"... and make them sort by "most recent date first"?
By the way, I tried "restore defaults" but that was to no avail.
I have pinned "Recent Places" folder (%USERPROFILE%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecent) and this folder shows in explorer windows in Quick Access area. This is OK.
But why this folder disappears from Quick Access aren in open / save dialogs in all applications?
Every other pinned items show up in both explorer windows and open/save dialogs...
Where I can find the settings for the Start menu of Windows X? I forgot where it is. I managed to put a link of the download folder in the start menu. Forgot how I did that in the first place.
The situation is I can't add any item to the "start list', which is the list on the left of the start icons. As far as I've read, it's supposed to be as easy as dragging an icon, but it can't be done I get an "x" when I reach the destination at the left.Strange also, is that in my context menu there is no option named "start list", which posters point as an option to add a program icon to the list. Also, right clicking on an item on start list does not show me the "remove from this list option".
if i click file explorer right under frequent folders there is a recent files list this is a privacy issue is there a way that it wont show a list of recent files.
I have about Windows 10. Back on Windows 7, under the all programs list I was able to delete anything I didn't want listed there. Unfortunately with Windows 10 I can't remove everything. So I am wondering how can I clean up the "All Apps" list under the start menu?
For example, I want to remove "Calculator", "Calendar" and "Camera" from all apps. When I right click on these items I can only either pin to start bar or task bar.
Is there any way to remove these items so the All apps is a little bit cleaner?
1. Recent folders in explorer jump list are not updating. They seem to be random folders from my second HDD and clicking on them says the folder has been moved (which is not true) and it offers to delete the shortcut. Deleting also does nothing, item still remains. Disabling recent folder in settings > personalization > start also has no effect
2. If I tick 'show recently used files in quick access' in folder options it also has no effect. When I open folder options after this it is unticked again.
3. I can't pin anything to quick access, I get 'parameter is incorrect' error.
Where you open your jump list in File Explorer and then click on something like your Videos or Downloads Folder to have the jump list close like normal, but then nothing open? I also noticed that when I right click on the start button, I can't get any of the options on the menu to launch either.
I was just working with my Task Manager startup items and noticed there are several items that have numbers in parenthesis next to them. What do those numbers mean? Are those numbers telling me I need to do something, as in are they registering any sort of "alert" message?
In versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)
In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.
My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....
I have recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and everything was fine then. But recently I am experiencing an issue which is "Pinned items and Jump List are not displayed in File Explorer in both Taskbar and Start Menu". Pinned items and Jump Lists are displayed for other programs in Taskbar as usual but the issue is only with File Explorer. I have restarted the PC but still the problem persists and I have also disabled Cortana.

I'm running windows 10 that was upgrade from windows 8.1, the first time i don't care about this quick access feature so i change the default explorer to 'This PC' and then i find this feature is somewhat useful for me, and when i want to use it that looks like this feature not grouped and it's a little annoying, is there any way to fix this problem.
I'm not a fan of quick access/frequent folder/recent files. I liked the windows 8 system. Reason is because I don't want people who use my computer to have quick access to files that are personal or nsfw.
I don't to use a type of security system because I use my computer often at work and at home so it would waste time. I just want to avoid those moments when people borrow my computer spontaneously and Quick Access is the first thing in the files explorer. I just want to classic file explorer system.
I have dual screens and have two task bars. I have an exe I'd like to pin to either Quick Access or my second task bar, but I can't find anyway to do either. Any way to do this ?
I just installed Windows 10 and have noticed that the quick access tab doesn't work. I have turned on "show recently used files in quick access" and "Show frequently used folders in quick access" , but still nothing show up on the quick access tab, even though ive accessed many files and folders. Also i can't pin any folders to the quick access.
While it shows recent files, somehow my pinned folders were removed.
This is after doing a clean installation of Windows 10 (via Reset my PC post-upgrade from 8.1 Pro).
Here's the dialogue box when I try to pin my user folder to Quick Access:
Here's what my Quick Access folder looks like:
As you can see, my recent files show up, but my pinned folders have disappeared and Windows does not allow me to pin any folders at all (via error above).
I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either.
I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:UsersRobAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations folder.
Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.
This all started when something happened to my registry and I was unable to create new folders.
On my "Quick Access" tab in my File Explorer, it duplicated all the folders. At first I thought it would simply correct itself if I restarted my laptop, but it made it worse. Now the duplicated folders have no names and I can not delete them because an error pops up saying that the folder does not exist.
If i click the the files icon it doesnt work, but if i go to the pinned file explorer folder downloads and close it and try quick access again it loads just fine
This has been going on ever since i updated from Win8
