Recovered With ISO On USB - Now Will Not Boot On Screen

Feb 10, 2016

I just recovered my pc due to a wdf_violation from the win10 iso on a usb. I did a recovery where my personal files would not be deleted. I left the computer to sit as it recovered and came back to a black screen. I've restarted the computer several times and nothing appears to be happening as the monitors stay black, but the pc is running.

Recovered Data Hard Drive Slow And Hanging

Feb 5, 2016

I use a 2 drive set up, a small solid state for my operating system and whatever game I'm currently into, and a 2TB storage drive.

My storage drive (D:) bombed and I took it in for data recovery. The tech saved about 1.3TB of 1.6 used. He put the image onto my new drive and got it going again. However when I try to access explorer or anything pertaining to D: it hangs for about 45 seconds before giving me access. I ran CCleaner first off to knock out registry entries that lost their home but haven't seen any improvement.

What else should I do to get this thing back in order? I'm on Windows 10.

Graphic Cards :: Display Driver Stopped Responding And Has Recovered

Sep 3, 2015

I'm having this frequent problem with my desktop computer. Since updating from Windows 7 to Windows 10, every time I use my PC (at random times) the whole screen will just go blank and I'll get a little message popup in the right hand corner saying.

Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

I don't use my PC for anything real heavy it just randomly happens.. From either scrolling up and down a website page or watching a YouTube video etc... I've tried upgrading my graphics driver but still no luck.

OS: Windows 10

Graphic Cards :: Display Driver Stopped Responding And Has Recovered - Shows Wrong Drive

Aug 7, 2015

Since upgrading to Windows 10 from 8.1, I've seen the following message several times.

Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

When it happens, my laptop screen goes black for a few seconds, except for the taskbar and toast notification. I also have an external monitor that doesn't seem affected at all.

I can reproduce the error pretty consistently if I rapidly switch a Flash video back and forth between full-screen and embedded, but that's not the only time I've seen the problem.

As far as I can tell, everything continues running. Even the full-screen video continues running after the screen isn't black any more.

The weird thing is that the driver name it shows isn't the driver I'm using. I've already upgraded my display drivers to the latest available from Intel's site.

Some things I've observed:

The information presented by Windows in Settings -> Display -> Advanced display settings shows the driver for Windows 10 that I downloaded from Intel. The "Intel HD Graphics Control Center" that was installed along with the driver shows the latest driver version that I downloaded from Intel. In Settings -> Apps & Features there's only one "Intel(R) Processor Graphics Driver" listed.Event viewer shows very little useful information:

General
Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.Details (XML View):
- <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="Display" />
<EventID Qualifiers="0">4101</EventID>

[Code] ....

It's conceivable that Intel updated the driver, but forgot to change the string somewhere so the error is actually for the Windows 10 driver. I don't know how to find out exactly what failed or why. It's getting that string from somewhere.

Boot To Start Screen

Aug 26, 2015

Right, it is clear that the value of live tiles is rather reduced if they don't appear at boot to announce all updates. Especially if you don't want them clogging up the notification centre with stuff less important than emails and other comms. Don't suggest tablet mode. Until W10 works properly with swipes on precision touch pads like the T650 (rather than basic touch pads only like the ones on laptops) touch mode is pretty horrid on desktops.I found the group policy setting to force boot to start screen in W10 but it is bugged and does not work. Until MS get around to fixing it, we need a work around.

All we need is to make a Windows script that runs at boot to bring up the start screen. But how? What is the command to bring up the start screen from Power Shell or Command Prompt? Is there a way to trigger a virtual keypress at start to trigger the start screen?

PC Won't Boot At All - Black Screen

Sep 10, 2015

CPU/GPU: AMD A10-7850K
MOBO: MSI A78M-E35
SSD: SanDisk Plus 120GB
RAM: EVGA 8GB 2133MHz
PSU: EVGA 80+ 430W
Monitor: Acer G237HL bi

I installed Windows 7 Home Basic and did all Windows updates; this went fine. Reserved Windows 10 and downloaded/installed it when it was ready; this went fine. Once in Windows 10, tried to "reset this pc" by choosing "remove everything" and "just remove my files"; this went fine until doing a restart after reaching 100%.This issue being the "inaccessible_boot_device" error that many others have gotten which causes the PC to enter a restart loop.

Well, during this loop I made the (apparent) mistake of turning off my PC. Now, I can't even boot my PC at all. I get a black screen. I can't use the Windows 7 disc, can't use my MOBO disc, can't even boot into bios... nothing. All I see when I turn on my PC is literally a black screen with nothing on it. What can be done to fix this? I've read that putting Windows 10 on a USB by using the Microsoft media creation tool and booting from that to clean install works, but if I can't even boot from the Windows 7 disc, how can I boot from a USB? And I can't even enter BIOS to force a USB boot.

Okay, my PC will now boot into the "inaccessible_boot_device" error blue screen and does the restart loop. Not sure what I should do now. I'm afraid to power off my PC again.

Not sure why, but I was finally able to boot into BIOS. My only guess would be that, maybe when I tried(but failed) to remove my MOBO battery, just from me wiggling it caused it to reset? Idk.

Anyway, once in BIOS, I changed boot priority to DVD and was able to access reinstalling Windows 7.I am right now reinstalling Windows 7, on Disk 0 Partition 2(if that matters. wouldn't even allow me to install on partition 1 or 3).So, from the looks of things, everything is back to normal? I should be able to finish reinstalling Windows 7, do the updates and redownload/reinstall Windows 10 without issue? Though, this time I will NOT attempt to "reset this pc".

I'm back into Windows 10. So, I'm still not sure why I was finally able to boot into BIOS, but once I was able to, I changed DVD boot drive to top priority and was able to reinstall Windows 7 from the disc. I then did all Windows Updates. I then downloaded the Windows 10 ISO and mounted/installed it with Virtual Clone Drive.ng.

FAST BOOT Causes Lockup After Welcome Screen?

Feb 23, 2016

Laptop is Lenovo X220 that had Windows 7 Pro and upgraded to W10. It has had already 5 vanilla installs of 10 Pro 1511 on it.

2x install with an old 3.5" 5400 RPM stock HDD drive and the 4-5th and final install with an upgrade to an SSD. The HDD was changed to SSD because of me thinking the HDD was dead and was causing the computer to lock up at boot.

Tried 3 different operating systems on the machine as well, Windows 7 (no problems) (stock with computer), Windows 8.1 (with Fast Boot) enabled and no problems on Windows 8.1 O/S and finally W10 PRO 1511, vanilla from Microsoft directly.

For some reason after W10 installs, does its updates, reboots, drivers are updated and everything seems fine after a couple of reboots and such. Works normally, wakes up from sleep. Only 3 programs get added. Firefox, Chrome and WinRar.

After that shutdowns OK, but when she boots up it gets past the welcome screen and hangs on the desktop. Complete hang everything becomes unresponsive, but the mouse pointer. I can dance the pointer around but No keyboard input no GUI input, nothing. Only way to come out is with a POWER BUTTON DOWN. Was trying to solve this issue since December and never found any solution, thought it was drivers or internet, or hardware but nothing, no dice. Even if it didn't connect to the internet after install and a program or 2 were added via USB and I shut down it would hang upon next boot.

So I did reading and reading and researching and I came upon a thread that mentioned W10 hangs on welcome screen with Fast Boot on, I thought no this can't be it because I make it past the welcome screen. I hang on the desktop when I'm actually in Windows. I can manage to click Start button and the system will hang. Only way to get it to respond is to hold down the power and power it down. Temps seem OK, MEMTEST came back fine, replaced HDD with SSD, only other thing I could think out was drivers or hardware (mobo) failure or something else ....

Then I decided to clean install update drivers via Internet, reboot and then disable FAST BOOT via @Brink regedit hack, because for some weird reason, on this machine on every clean install, FAST BOOT IS NEVER SHOWED in the POWER menu. I could not understand this. I do not have this option at all like @Brink has in his diagram photo. The option is just not there!!! But the registry though the hiberbootenabled value is set to "1".

So two questions, why is it checked and greyed out (that I cannot uncheck it) and 2, the only way I was able to change the value was manually via @Brink registry edit.

OPTION 2 - using a bat file because option 1 was unavailable.
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Once I disabled FAST BOOT, the laptop has been fine since. No locking up anymore period!

SSD is 850EVO and W10 PRO is the only O/S on the machine, legit with digital entitlement upgraded from W7 PRO key on the Lenovo, because its an X220 thinkpad so 'business' series. No problems since.

#1 Fast Boot option to disable on startup is not avialable on the machine? Value is "1" in registry but cannot make changes to it via control panel as it simply is just not there. (This was the case with both HDD and new SSD). Windows 8.1 shows the option, not 10.

#2 Hangs on startup after welcome screen

#3 Only way to prevent is to run the .bat file from @Brink or manually edit value in regedit, save, exit, shutdown, go on with life.

AFAIK value in REGISTRY is set at '0' and machine works ....

Brink has this option on his machine via control panel but I do not on the laptop. Brinks:

My PC does not give me that option at all. Is if it doesn't even exist.

30-60 Second Black Screen With Cursor On Boot?

Aug 29, 2015

This has been happening ever since I upgraded to 10 about 2 weeks ago. I start the computer, 3 second ASUS logo, then windows 10 logo comes up and it loads for about 10-20 seconds, then I get a black screen with a cursor for 30-60 seconds, followed by another loading screen and finally the login screen. About the same boot time I had on 7 except for the long black screen. I can move the cursor around during the black screen, and it sometimes has the blue loading circle next to it. I've tried disabling fast startup and my video drivers are up to date.

Device manager doesn't show more than one display adapter, but it does show 4 monitors if I show hidden devices. My BenQ monitor in DVI-D and Generic PnP monitor, which is my TV plugged into the DVI-I port on my 770, and then a hidden copy of each of those. I usually have the TV off with display on my BenQ, but windows seems to think the BenQ is the second monitor, calling the TV the PC screen when I check windows key + P. I don't know if that's relevant or not, but it caused a problem during my win10 install (windows switched to the TV display mid-install.) I tried switching the display ports while booting up but I still had the black screen.

Very Long Boot And Black Screen

Jan 27, 2016

So recently I have been getting very long boot times, not sure how long as after 20 mins I get bored and walk off. After silly amount of time trying to boot it comes to a black screen with a mouse curser. Ctrl + alt + del does not work but I found pressing start + r and typing explorer.exe makes everything work. I installed some Intel drivers other day while rooting my tablet, maybe this is the issue?

Not Giving Boot Option Screen?

Mar 19, 2015

I partitioned my drive to have Windows 8.1 as my daily driver and Windows 10 to play around with. Today when I went to update to the new 10041 build (which did not work, it's stuck on a Windows Defender update and an Intel display driver update) I don't know what happened that now I don't get the screen upon booting my computer to choose between the two partitions. It just boots directly into Windows 10. When I check the Disk Management I can see the other partition is there, but I have no way of booting into it.

Infinite Boot Screen After Power Cut

Apr 6, 2016

Today I had left my computer turned on for some time to download a torrent and then there was a power cut due which the computer had switched off. Now when I turn on the computer there is a Windows 10 logo with a loading loop(which is usual) but then appears a blue screen with a loading loop which loads for ever. Usual this loading screen did not last more than a second but now it is loading for ever. Due to this I am not able to do anything. My system was running on Windows 10 64bit which was up to date. I do not have Windows 10 CD or any other windows 10 installation media as the windows 10 ISO was stored on my PC. Though I have a Windows 7 boot-able pen drive ready, can I use it to fix this(disk check or system restore)?

Boot Screen Restart Loop?

Aug 9, 2015

Last night I was trying to watch some good ole' dragon ball z. When this site gave me a virus. I tried system restore and was denied. So I hard reset my PC which I just upgraded from 7 to 10.

The reset was stuck at 50% for about an hour so I turned off my PC and flipped it back on to see if it'd retry the installation.

To my surprise I'm stuck in this loop where my computer shows the boot up dell xps screen and then restarts. F8, F9, F11. NOTHING WORKS. I can't get to any recovery screen like I could with Windows 7. I don't have a disk because it was of course the free upgrade on July, 29th. Also can't burn one due to not being able to get to my Desktop.

Black Screen And WAIT During Boot-up

Aug 30, 2015

For two years I have had three hard drives installed. One small one went bad and at bootup I would get that information with "Press F1 to resume" which I would do and then windows would load. I upgraded to windows 10 from 7 three weeks ago, same message, and no problem, as it would still go right into windows. Last week I noticed windows update had a list of important updates. I believe I also had an nvideo GeForce driver update which I am sure I did first without problems.

When I did the windows updates and had to restart, I noticed I had a slightly different look but it still took me to the same press F1 to resume. However, the result was it went to a totally black screen with a tiny band of the new windows blue across the top and in the middle of the screen it said WAIT, not in windows type but in the same script when you first begin booting computer. It just remained there and there was no activity taking place, no blinking red light or solid red light like my computer always does. After at least 20 minutes of no activity I rebooted with the same result. Repeating the F1 kept giving the same result, and further reboots and then the F1 caused the computer to reboot maybe 2 out of 5 tries instead of directly going to the black screen. At one point I quickly saw something where I believe it askd to press tab or possibly delete and then gave an option to press F1 or F2. I am not sure which I pressed but it did go into windows and everything was fine for the rest of the day. I let my computer on but at some point overnight it had rebooted and back to the press F1 to resume which results in back to the black screen WAIT and this is where I am at again (I am using a different computer to send this). Black Screen No Cursor During Boot

Jan 9, 2016

Specs:
-Intel I7 4790K (NOT OC'D)
-250gb Intel ssd (boot and os)
-16gb Hyper x ram
-1tb seagate barracuda (games etc...)
-750w evga supernova psu
-HIS amd r9 290x (liquid cooled)
-Asus Z97K Mobo

Occasionally when I power on my computer it shows nothing but a black screen no cursor. Assuming its the gpu or display connection but hey could be something else. I switched over from HDMI to display port. I usually end up having to pushing the reset button on my case and it boots up perfectly fine. Just bugs my really badly when I have to boot to a black screen and having to push the reset button every time, the asus loading screen doesn't show either.

Blue Screen At Boot Up - Resume From Hibernation

Oct 21, 2015

I have been using Win10 since July. It has been working fine. Just recently I noticed a blue screen at boot up stating, "resume from hibernation". I have never used hibernation in my life. Sleep mode, yes. Hibernation, no. But I have an SSD and don't use sleep anymore. I do a full shutdown every time. I noticed the same issue on my Dad's Win10 computer.

The reason I am asking is I want to boot from a USB flash drive, but "resume from hibernation" will not allow that.

Black Screen After Boot Logo - No Cursor

Feb 23, 2016

All was good and well, until my Windows 7 on another drive gave me an NTOSKRNL.EXE error (fixed now). My Windows 10 booted fine at this point, but after entering my password, it was stuck on "logging in" for quite some time. I forced a reboot, and then I was stuck in the "Performing Automatic Repair" loop.

I eventually got out of this, only to be greeted by a "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" BSOD. After replacing files from RegBack, I managed to get it to boot, but now I just see a black screen with no cursor. I've tried logging in and I had Chrome Remote Desktop but that didn't work either.

It's really not okay for Windows to just mess up randomly. The NTOSKRNL error from the other drive COULDN'T have caused this problem.
