Remote Desktop At Login Screen?
Sep 10, 2015
I go to Canterbury College and they have the school system set up so that students can do a remote desktop connection a there server and login into their accounts using there own computers. I bring my laptop to college and I have to login to the remote desktop using a shortcut on my desktop to use it. I have searched the web and do not know if it is possible for me to set it up on Windows to let me instead of clicking my user name on the lock screen but let me sign into the remote desktop as soon as I turn the computer on. This will make it easier than login into my home account and then the school account if I could log straight into the school system. At the moment the school laptops automatically connect to the remote desktop server when you turn them on.

I took the plunge today and did a clean install of Windows 10 pro downloaded from MSDN. The performance is also incredible, everything is very snappy & responsive.
during setup, i opted for "my organisation owns this computer" and i signed in with my Office365 (E3) login details, i also opted to apply the default security policies. the office365 account had only been used to sign in to outlook online, and was never used for Azure active directory / windows login. the setup completed and i can log in directly to the desktop no problem. i noticed however that i could not sign in to one drive, i kept getting prompted for the username and password, and it was rejected every time despite being correct. i have no trouble accessing one drive via the web interface. also, now i noticed that i am unable to access this PC when logging in remotely via remote desktop (from a Win 8.1 PC). the credentials are correct.
it's a mystery. i have a microsoft ID (personal email address - no outlook/hotmail/live email etc) that i've had for years and this is linked with a Microsoft Action Pack subscription. i needed to sign in with these credentials on the Visual Studio license activation screen. i now notice that when i sign in to Office365 via web browser, i am prompted with this question (new since installing windows 10):
Sign in with your work or school accountIt looks like XYZ@MyCompany.com is used with more than one account. Which account do you want to use?Work or school account (Assigned by your work or school)Microsoft account(Personal account) having searched around a lot today, i came across this thread which explains how users are forced to have separate Microsoft accounts - even with the same username/email - to span services like Office365 and MSDN / Action Pack. this seems to describe my situation well, but i can't find any solution to the onedrive & remote login issues.

Using Windows 10 on both PC's.
I have managed to get PC 'A' to remotely connect to PC 'B' but cannot connect 'B' to 'A'.
Both PC's allow remote access.
I used the Win 10 Remote Desktop App.

If remote computer has user password all works well, but if no user password can't log on. In windows 7 this was not a problem,is there a work around so if two windows10 computers have no user passwords you can connect?. This is on a private home network. Don't want to use third party software for this process.

I recently upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate to Win 10 Pro. After upgrade, I can only start Remote Desktop once if done shortly after a boot/reboot. I believe it's only a matter of several minutes, but can't say for sure yet.
Shortly after rebooting, Remote Desktop will start and function correctly. If I close that connection and attempt to restart, the "loading" circle appears for about 5 seconds, then disappears. Nothing happens after that.
The mstsc.exe process starts, but nothing happens. A new process will start for each successive time I attempt to start remote desktop. I've stopped the processes and tried again with same results.

I have been unable to find anything. It's quite simple, the Remote Desktop options have both become greyed out. The 'allow remote requests' is still available. I have seen posts saying to check group policy, but I have done that and I have no group policy settings set.

my remote desktop connection has suddenly stopped working on windows 10.
1) how does one uninstall and reinstall it in windows 10? I've searched on google but can't find a solution (that works) anywhere.
2) are there any (free) alternatives to windows' own remote desktop connection?

When I opened up System and Security>System>Remote settings the remote tab only display the 'allow remote assistance' box and I do not see 'allow remote desktop' box.
I think someone is trying to get onto my PC and I cannot stop it.

after installing a replacement GPU, RDP now only connects to the home server when i have "use all my monitors" enabled. If i have it unticked the session will try to open on my second monitor - which is connected to the onboard GPU, unlike the first, which is connected to the discrete one - as usual, but blurt out a connection error after starting to render the remote desktop. If i tick "use all my monitors" in RDP settings, a connection is made, but displayed on my main screen.

I never had this problem on Windows 7. But when I remote to a Win 10 PC, start a process, let's say copying files, when I close the connection (via the X at the top...NOT disconnect from start menu), it closes the copy process.
Are there some new settings or something that I need to change to correct this?

I've been noticing that RDP is a toss up on my Windows 10 machines. It hangs and I have to close the connection, then try again and get an error stating it's not available because it's busy, then try a third time after a few minutes and it works. I have disabled connecting to printers, clipboard, smartcard, etc. and still have the problem.

I have noticed since upgrading to Windows 10 I am unable to Log into my work network which uses Server 2008. It keeps giving me the following error. I have added it to the compatibility mode settings but still get the same error. This is the following error I am getting " The wizard cannot configure Remote Desktop Connection settings. Make sure that the client version of Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) 6.0 or later is installed on this computer"...
I have attatched a screen shot also.

I have related issue. Every time Windows 10 forces a critical update. The computer ends up on the lock screen instead of finishing loading as it does on normal restart. It's a problem becuase the computer is remote location. So every time critical update happens. I blocked regular updates. can't connect then to drive 40 mins to slide the screen. I created task that reboot:s it nighly but that doesn't work as its not fully loaded.

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.

I reinstalled windows the day before yesterday and since then every time I turn my laptop on after entering my password the screen turns off for like 2 seconds then turns back on. This have never happened to me before. I tried putting my old windows back via Macrium Reflect and I even tried reinstalling it again but neither of those things worked. I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g laptop.

I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.

The black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?

I've got a Lenovo Desktop that was upgraded from 8.1 to 10 just after the release. I have a Toshiba Laptop which I upgraded from 7 to 10 about a month ago. Occasionally, the desktop screen for the desktop would be the default desktop image for the Toshiba laptop with "Toshiba" in the lower right corner.
Last night I performed a clean install of 10 on my Laptop. I went to bed and let the laptop work the updates as I was sleeping. When I woke up the Lenovo, again, the desktop showed the Toshiba default image rather than the one I had changed it to previously.
I had researched the issue but only after making this post is when I realized that all accounts under the same Microsoft ID will sync, including the desktop personalization. Not exactly a feature that I like. I'd like to turn that feature off.
