I am looking to disable the store from the taskbar in Windows 10. I found a local group policy for Windows 8 but it didn't seem to work in Windows 10. This is for business so I don't want the store pinned to the taskbar.

View 2 RepliesI've got a clean install version of Windows 10 10240 on my machine. The store Icon recently changed from the all white minimal version to the one shown in the image attached. The background color changes with the theme. I've run the SFC /scannow command and found no errors. Additionally, I've cleared the Icon cache using the instructions at the link below.

Weird issue.... the Store tile and all modern apps originally looked nice with monochrome icons on my taskbar, but after restarting now they are showing as ugly tiles on my taskbar (i.e like it did in 8.1). Is there some sort of setting for this to put it back to the transparent icon on my taskbar?

View 2 RepliesI originally wanted to completely disable the UAC as the admin permission messages that popped for almost any/everything i wanted to do were very annoying. I dont remember exactly what i did, but it was something in gpedit or something similar to it. After i did that my windows store app stopped working, and appeared as a blank space in my task bar as it was still pinned there. As the store wasnt working, apps related to it like the calculator disappeared from my pc. They dont appear when i search for them, and links to DL ones from the store dont work either.
I tried the guide here Apps - Reinstall and Re-register in Windows 8 and 10 - Windows 10 Forums and did step 2, but that managed to break powershell and make it disappear as well as disabling my task bar and start menu. I cant right click anything in my task bar, and can only use the start menu's right click menu.
A few days ago, after an automatic Windows 10 update on my desktop computer, I found that: right clicking icons on the taskbar does nothing - none of the options appear; the start button on the left of the taskbar only works by right-clicking and accessing the old Windows 8 style options; the search icon on the taskbar does nothing; the Windows 10 calculator has disappeared - when I press the calculator key on my keyboard a message appears saying "You'll need a new app to open this calculator". It seems to have been deleted from the computer.
Until these things happened Windows 10 was working well.
I'm using Build TH1 10240 with all updates (just checked before I posted this to be sure) dual booting W7 and W10 with no known problems other than the taskbar issue.
The taskbar hides and appears fine when nothing is up but the desktop, or the settings window and other items from the computer but doesn't hide when a have IE up, I'm using IE11, just don't care much for Edge yet, maybe as time goes by I'll start using it more.
Anytime I have IE up the taskbar stays visible and will not hide, I went to properties to reset it, tried this a few times, uncheck the box>apply, then check the box>apply, after I click apply the taskbar momentarily hides and immediately pops back into view.
I know others (Jimbo) were having an issue with this on earlier builds. It didn't happen every time for me, just every once in awhile but on 10240 it's every time.
It's not a huge thing but I've always hid the taskbar and would like to do it on W10 too.
I am having some trouble getting the default store apps to work. As for the store itself, it used to briefly show the splash then crash. Now it is just an unknown file type that doesn't do anything when clicked. I have tried some of the more common fixes, like the powershell re-register scripts, but none work, all returning errors of one kind or another. At this point, would it just be easier to "Reset this PC", or is there another fix I may not have tried?

I can't find where the shortcuts are (most of them), even with this tutorial "All apps in Start menu - Add or Remove Items in Windows 10".
Where is that listing, that W7 had, to easily remove installed programs ? Was called Add/Remove

And, if I plug in an external HD, how do I access it/switch to it, to use ?
I couldn't fit it all in the title. Basically what I'm trying to ask for is if there is a way to remove the folders from "This PC" so I'm just displaying my hard drives like before. I'd like to keep the folders under quick access, and I would like to keep the folders in general, but they simply do not belong right by the drives under "This PC". I like change, but this one, I do not like at all.

View 3 Replieswhat I installed or accepted any firewall configuration but every time I try to get on the internet via the chrome it blocks and the notice of proxy, I disable the proxy that is active (127.0. 0.1: 8080) and then to use the chrome for a while, until the proxy returns to be activated. Already excludes via regedi also but nothing worked.
Additionally avast blocked and no longer opens and the windows security center is disabled and can not enable. The firewall also disables alone.
So I recently got an HP Stream 7. I removed office of course and it seemed to work. BUT I've updated it to Windows 10. And low and behold office 365 returns flashing a offer to try a 1month trial. And no matter what I do it will NOT go away from my start-screen. I clicked the uninstall and it seemed to be uninstalling, but now it's still there only the uninstall button is gone.
I tried unpinning, but all the tiles just go transparent and then it returns to normal after a few minutes, and the tile is STILL there.
Is this really how Microsoft wants to push their office software?
When I try to log in I get message must enable cookies. I have my cookies enabled, but it does not work.
View 3 Replies I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading my desktop this week while I'm on vacation. I've done my laptop with no problems at all, it's a Dell Latitude E6400 with Win7 Pro bought refurbished from Newegg. The laptop was a mid 2008 model and W10 works great on it.
My question is about my desktop drives, my OS drive is an SSD and my backup drive is an HDD. There is nothing but the backups and system image on the HDD, it is an inside the box drive connected to the second SATA on the MB. Is there a chance the W10 upgrade will put it's boot loader/manager on the backup drive?
I have seen posts where for best results, all drives except the one being upgraded/clean installed on should be disconnected to avoid the boot loader/manager showing up on another drive. I can do this but it's sort of a PIA due to pulling the tower out, disconnecting cables, and opening it up. Then repeating after the upgrade to put things back.
My backup drive is an HDD with nothing on it other than backups which are done every Sunday night. There is no OS on the backup HDD.
Background is, I created another partition on my 120G SSD (30G) where I've been dual booting 7 and the W10 TP's, the plan is to delete that partition and recover the space for the W10 upgrade. Then have a single partition with W10 on my 120G SSD C drive and to continue to use the WD 500G for backup and system image. I will create another partition on the backup HDD for the W10 backups (right now I'm using a 100G partition on the HDD for Win7) and keep the Win7 backup and image until I'm fully on and comfortable with W10.
The new search box take too much space on my toolbar. Can I reduce it or remove completely the search box?

Recently I have seen that my laptop desktop seems to have a "frame" on it. I have marked the frame on the attached screenshot. I can't seem to get rid of it.
(1) how it happened, and (2) how to get rid of it permanently? It has no effect (except for my frustration) on the workings of my laptop. The "frame" cannot be re-sized, nor moved.
Is it possible to remove the "Name Group" from the Desktop?

View 3 RepliesI'm not a fan of quick access/frequent folder/recent files. I liked the windows 8 system. Reason is because I don't want people who use my computer to have quick access to files that are personal or nsfw.
I don't to use a type of security system because I use my computer often at work and at home so it would waste time. I just want to avoid those moments when people borrow my computer spontaneously and Quick Access is the first thing in the files explorer. I just want to classic file explorer system.
After upgrading to Windows 10, some Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook, Etc..) have this obnoxious decoration with pipes and arrows in the top right above menu icons. Any way to remove/customize this? (see below)
