Nothing changed, nothing installed. Edge stopped working, Cortana stopped working. Mail stopped working. SFC scannow found corrupt files but unable to fix.Reset keep files and settings failed to boot and rolled back. As did remove everything.Stuck with a very broken PC that is filling logs with everything stopped working and was closed.Just defender installed.

IE, Firefox and chrome will not connect.Of course I was way to smart to do any kind of back up.Was thinking about taking back to factory specs, just have to find the rescue media I created when laptop was new.

View 1 RepliesRecently, I decided to do a factory reset, to cleanly wipe my drive, with the exception of Windows. When the reset was about 30% through, the reset failed. Now, when I try and use my laptop, it only gets to the ASUS logo, then goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore symbol on the top left corner. I've tried doing F9, SHIFT+F9, and everything else in between. My laptop is an ASUS G74SX, and I don't have a recovery partition for the laptop. I also cannot get any external programs for the laptop, such as ISOs, etc.
View 1 RepliesSo my computer has been kinda laggy and running slowly so I figured I would do a clean reset of Windows 10. It noted that it would take hours, which was fine. However about an hour into it, it said there was an error resetting. It then restarted the computer however I can't get passed the "ASUS" start up logo. It goes black and then loops. I hit F9 but none of the options work for me - automatic repair won't work because it says my computer doesn't have an administrator and when I try to reset again from there, it tells me that "a required drive partition is missing." I don't have the greatest knowledge on computers, so I really don't even know what that means.
I've read that I might have to reboot from a USB - how would I go upon doing that? Is there something I can download on the Microsoft website? I don't have a key because the computer came pre-loaded with Windows 8 and I upgraded to Windows 10 for free last year. Will I still be able to boot from a USB?
I recently upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 ( Build 10240). I had my overclock settings at 4.4 GHz/1.172 CPU Vin (specs listed at the bottom). My computer had no issues prior to switching to Windows 10. However, my computer always crashes and gives me the "overclock settings have failed" error within the first 10 minutes. This seems to only happen during the first boot session of my computer.
After restarting, the computer seems to run fine with no problems. I've tried restarting with default CPU settings and my usual OC settings. My computer runs for several hours with no issues. The issue comes back after I've turned the computer off for a long period of time (~3-5 hours).
I think its a Windows 10 issue, but I'm not sure.

I have a problem, I installed windows 10 and now I'm stuck in a boot loop after attempting a reset to wipe my files in hopes to make things a little faster, and now I'm unable to do anything other than enter the BIOS.

View 1 RepliesMy Acer Aspire One was upgraded to Windows 10. Eventually, I ran into some issues with the start menu not popping up, so I decided to run a clean reset of Windows 10. The reset failed, so I turned off the notebook. When I turned it back on, the message "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart," popped up. My first option was to try to use either f2 or f12 to see if there was some way to get around the issue, but then I remembered that, recently, my notebook had stopped responding to those commands. I do have a USB Logitech K120 keyboard hooked up to it (since the original keyboard messed up,) but it had been working fine for those commands and such up until now.
Today, I downloaded Win 10 using the Media Creation Tool in an attempt to create a bootable USB drive. I plugged that in, yet it doesn't seem to recognize it at all. The same message pops up as before. My acer doesn't have a CD-ROM or anything of the sort, so the USB appears to be my only hope. Is there anything that I can do? I'm hoping there's a way I can force the notebook to recognize the USB, or at least boot into the f2 or f12 commands to see if I can use them in any way.
i tried to wipe my hard drive using the system wipe function in windows settings, and I let it do that while I had to go do something else. I came back to an error that it had an error during the process, and a sole button "cancel." It now tries and fails to boot up past the hp splash screen, and then black screens and resets. It does this in a loop, f8 does nothing, and it detects nothing. My warranty expired a mere 5 days ago, and I am absolutely lost.
View 9 RepliesMy father hit yes to upgrad his HP Probook 6407b from Windows 7 to Win 10. He did not realize what he was saying yes to.He brought it to me before it finsihed. I got into win 10, but then had issues with HP security software at boot. It would hang at boot, say something about a finger print reader, and then allow me to log in. So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. Goes to try a startup repair and it does not work. It looks like win 7 trying to do it and not 10.
Is there any way to recover either win 7 or 10?I tried a win 10 usb drive, but it says the upgrade was previously started in windows, turn off machine and restart, but that fails.
I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.
I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).
After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.
My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.
I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.
I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.
My Windows 7 was updating to Windows 10. When it appeared to almost be done configuring a message appeared stating the Windows 10 could not be installed and it was restoring the previous version of Windows.
Well that did not work. The pc will not boot up now. Instead I get: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file"
I hope I can add the file using the win7 dvd. I know I was getting low on hard drive space, but had cleared enough to have 4 gig or so free. It was either not mentioned anywhere or I missed how much hd space would be needed. Of course I am assuming that the install bombed due to this?
So I upgraded to windows 10 but I wanted a clean install of it so i figured a factory reset would do it thinking it would have windows 10. But that was stupid now I have windows 8.1 with no windows 10 icon so my question is will the icon come back so I can upgrade back to windows 10 or am I stuck with the older version?

View 8 RepliesI set up a wake-up alarm in the Computer management --> Task Scheduler that automatically plays a custom mp3 every morning at 7AM.The speaker is in my monitor and it goes sleep 10 min after idle. It's ok, I don't want to keep it turned on for whole nights. But, when the scheduled alarm comes, it does not automatically turn back on the monitor and therefore its speaker doesn't play the MP3 because the monitor remains in sleep.I tired various ways to make the alarm turn the monitor back on but failed.I just need my music file played as an alarm in the mornings.

View 3 RepliesMy laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?
I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.
My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.
All my files are gone, but when I go into Windows Explorer the file system says that this PC has 856 GB out of 1.81 TB full, but I have nothing there. When I click on it all my games etc are not there, and I don't know how to get them back. When I reset Windows I clicked "keep my files" so where are my files? My internet is really slow and would take way to long to re-download and i wont have enough space because all my files are there i cant find them anywhere.

I tried the command-line suggested and right after I hit enter, I get a flash of a window popping up on my screen and then it's gone. It's so quick I can't see what it's trying to open.
I installed (took 8 hours of updating 7 then installing 10) windows 10 and it worked for a few minutes but then I added some software.
Control panel won't work, settings wont work, I cannot uninstall software, I cannot get to reset, restore is turned off (I did not turn it off), safe mode will not work.
Sometimes it will boot sometimes not. No I cannot boot to safe mode when I get logged in, I set boot mode to safe but it did not work.
I want to tool back to 7 but I don't have a disc. If I am forced to stay with 10 how can I reset it? There is no disc.
I made the mistake of setting project mode to second display only even though I have no second display on. I had to un/re-plug my monitor to correct it.Ever since it has been booting to the non-existent display, and will spuriously change over.The BIOS loading screens to show but as soon as windows is up, my monitor shows the "no signal" message.Is there a way to hard reset the project mode settings?I corrected the issue by fully uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers.
View 1 RepliesI downloaded Windows 10 a few days ago, and every time I turn off my computer and log back in, my mouse settings revert back to their defaults. The defaults have a lot of annoying extra features, and the scroll is backwards. Every time I change the mouse settings to my preferences and apply them, on the next restart they are back to defaults.
How to make my settings permanent? I'm sure once a patch or two for Windows 10 comes in the problem will sort itself out, but in the meantime?
Is there any way to take Windows 10 back as if I had just installed it without losing programs I have installed?
