Jan 31, 2016I needed to delete the first profile that had been set up as the person had left the charity I work with. I followed the directions to delete the user. All fine except the MS login has gone but the local id remains and is the first profile on the login screen. I have to skip it to get to the live user profiles. Is this a bug. I have run Delprof2. Nothing is found for this user and its not listed under users anywhere.

Jan 21, 2016I am running W10 on a laptop and I have libre office installed.
I now have several docs that I want to delete but i cannot do so. When I look this up on the internet I am told to delete them as I would any other doc. but I can't do this because I can only delete docs that are on my desktop and I can delete by clicking the right hand button and get a sub-menu with delete on it.
The LO docs only appear in LO and clicking the RH button does not produce a menu with delete on it.
Apps :: Ccleaner - Secure Deletion (Overwriting)
Jan 15, 2016I want to always Permanently Delete (Shred) files and folders on my PC so that no one can recover those data. Now I heard for a program called Eraser which allows us to shred files/folders by clicking right click of mouse on the files/folders and then choosing Shredding (Permanently Delete).
So my question is: can I normally delete all files/folders which means that those files/folders are now in Recycle Bin. And then I just open Ccleaner and I set Secure Deletion to Very Complex Overwrite (35 passes) and I also check 3 boxes there (Wipe Alternate Data Streams, Wipe Cluster Tips and Wipe MFT Free Space) and I also check Local Disc (C) and Local Disk (D) boxes and then I just click Run Cleaner and now all the files from Recycle Bin will be Permanently Deleted (Shredded) and no one will be able to recover those files? If this is true, then I don't need Eraser to permanently delete (shred) files/folders.
Performance :: Strange Massive Deletion Of Files
Oct 14, 2015I encountered a very strange problem last night. A bit of backstory first:
This is my second 'reset' of Windows 10. My first attempt to update into W10 went smoothly for about 1.5 months, then I got a black screen that looped continuously and would not get past startup. After trying many solutions, I figured the installation was corrupted, and started anew.
Everything on this incarnation of W10 has been fine, for about a month. However, last night, something VERY STRANGE occurred. As I went to switch the video I was watching in VLC, I double-clicked a video to load into VLC. VLC changed the video, but my PC lagged for about 20 seconds (unusual for my PC to lag at all). When it stopped, I went to look at my desktop, which is on my first monitor (second monitor has video playing on it), which was previously covered by full-screen explorer to look for the video. I was extremely surprised when I noticed that every. single. icon. was gone from my desktop, except the folder that housed the video I picked to watch.
The only things left were the Garbage Bin and that folder. I figured they went into the Garbage Bin on mistake. Checked. Nothing.
Long story short, after I went into 'My PC' to look in other folders, I was utterly baffled to notice that 400 GBs of data had been deleted from my computer. Yes, everything that was on my desktop (massive amount of videos, games, etc) were gone. Simply.. deleted.
After looking EVERYWHERE for the files, included my Program Files, Windows.Old, etc, and realizing that the items had not only been deleted, but REMOVED FROM PROGRAM FILES in many instances, I did a System Restore. Unfortunately, this did nothing except restore the FOLDERS, as the files themselves are still gone, and the 400 GBs is still missing.
Can't Access Facebook Or Gmail - Worked For A While After Deletion Of Registry Entries
Nov 23, 2015I bought a new Acer Aspire desktop about 6 weeks ago and immediately upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10. I have intermittent problems with accessing both Gmail and Facebook, often having to switch browsers, shut down all browsers and reopen, or reboot the computer. Even when I gain access it doesn't last for more than an hour or so before I start to have trouble following links, viewing pictures, etc. I have AVG (full version) installed and have checked Firewall options. I ran Malwarebytes once and that worked for a while (deletion of registry entries??) but then the problem recurred.

Aug 25, 2015Even when using disk cleanup in admin account it will say deleted but after restarting and going back into disk cleanup they are back.Even using Windows app they come back after deletion.On another note system restore doesn't seem to work , i did a system restore and even though i got the message that system restore completed successfully after i rebooted my screen was frozen and i had to do a system refresh to get it up and running again.I have been waiting for it to delete my temp files for 8 minutes already.

Jul 31, 2015I am in the process of attempting to install Windows 10 on the system listed in my profile. I have downloaded Windows 10 as an ISO and transferred this to an NTFS formatted memory stick. The installation process works ok but I am having problems getting the SSD setup for UEFI mode and secure boot. what settings I need to apply under CSM to get the SSD running in UEFI mode? And if there are any other settings needed?

The only option we get is to either use a USB or a pin. As per the compliance officer we have to require an encryption passphrase upon boot and I am not big on pins. How do I get my passphrase ability back?

Sep 11, 2015So I thought I'd give Cortana a try since I can turn it off again if I don't want it, however I get to the point where it makes me login, I enter my email address and password and then it takes me to the next step where it tells me something like you need to enter your current password just one more time.
I enter the same password one last time and it tells me it's wrong.
I go through it all over again and reset my password and try again, go though the first login and get to the second stage where it asks me to enter my password one "last" time, and I do and it tells me it's wrong again.
Try a third time, this time leaving the password blank on the 2nd step and still fails.
Edit: I know the password is correct as I've used it to login to live this morning, so not sure why it's not accepting it in the 2nd stage of the Cortana setup.

I thought this was just for Cortana so I agreed. Now my whole system has been changed. I have to log in with my Microsoft account which I never had to do and don't want to do. How can I get back to my original name with no long-in at startup.

Aug 23, 2015What is the deal with windows and contrast? For many years windows has been lowering the contrast to the point that now with windows ten it is often impossible to see. The box I'm typing this in is basically invisible. The scroll bars are gone and I have to find them by waving my mouse around until I cross it. The selected link in my side bar is reduced to a then slightly grey line that simply cannot be located. This is just silly.
Is there any setting that can get some contrast back? And I don't mean the text contrast. I can read text fine. It is the controls, gadgets and highlighting that needs to be fixed.
Keeps Defaulting To Factory Setting
Feb 6, 2016I got a new laptop (Pavilion 17) and first time using windows 10.
Problem 1 - I originally had to turn on scrolling for the click pad which was yesterday. Now today scrolling was turned off and I had to turn it back on again. Stopped using computer last night while it was copying files over (via network). Computer was left open and running.
Problem 2 - This morning the network was completely disconnected and I had to go in and 'join the network' again. I did have to 2 this 3 times yesterday while I was using the computer as well.
Problem 3 - This morning all my windows had been closed? Explorer windows that were being used to copy and firefox also.

Manually Setting Location
Sep 5, 2015As my desktop PC (like a lot of I suspect other PC's) doesn't have built in GPS, it means that whenever Windows 10 tries to automatically determine where am I (for example, when I'm looking at the built in map client, or Cortana is finding something nearby) it actually thinks I'm around 70 miles away.
Is there any way to manually set my actual location more accurately in Windows 10?

Aug 26, 2015Can't set any resolution on 1600x900 on my pc after that i installed win 10. I also downloaded nVIDIA.GeForce.Driver.341.81.win.10.R2.x64 but again it didn't work.

Setting Start Screen As Default
Nov 10, 2015I am irritated by the "Windows 8" apps screen, set as my default. It shows all the tiles I need and seems to work well enough, but if (for example) I go into emails and then want to come out, I'm taken back to the start menu and must click on "Windows 8" again to open the apps screen.
Is there any way I can change settings so I'm returned immediately to the apps screen? I know it's just a couple more clicks but it seems so pointless to be slowed down every time in that way.

Setting Default For Folder Tree?
Dec 14, 2015I would like most of my folders to open with Details for the view. Then when I want it differently I can change it. It seems like every time I open a new folder or one that has not yet been opened within 10 they all are large icons which provide little information.
Is there a way to set a one time default for all folders? Also is there a way set a default for a folder tree?
Display Monitor Setting Changes On Startup
Aug 16, 2015I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows 10. My main display monitor is a LG 24 widescreen plugged into the laptop.
With Windows 7, I had no problems in using Fn key f5 to set the display to only the LG (showing as "CRT" on the screen). This did not change when I re-booted the laptop.
With windows 10, it reverts back to to the default setting and I get the laptop screen and the monitor lit up.. I frequently get a different resolution on the display too, until I open the laptop and re-set the display with the Fn key. This is annoying, as I use an external keyboard (which doesn't flip the Fn key) with the laptop lip down.
I've also tried via Control Panel (Display) but that doesn't hold the setting either.
Installation :: Setting Data Pathway To HDD On SSD?
Sep 8, 2015After suffering an HDD failure on my Lenovo Y500 Ideapad, I opted to replace the HDD with an SSD as the :C drive to run the OS and software applications and to install a new HDD in the ultrabay as the drive to hold all data. This was done at a shop which then did a clean install of Windows 10 onto the SSD for me.
All good so far, but the default pathway for data is still set to the SSD. I want to keep my data on the HDD and I don't want to drag and drop it from the SSD every time I need to save or import something; otherwise, I could just be using an external back-up drive. How do I set the default pathway for data (documents, music, photos, downloaded .pdfs, etc) to the HDD?
Seems like it should be straightforward but I'm a novice. Haven't found specific directions for this in Windows 10 and it looks to be somewhat different than those described for Windows 7. I want to make sure that downloaded applications and the like still go to the SSD. And I'm concerned about making changes that might mess up the registry.
Suddenly, the SSD/HDD configuration is seeming a little overly-complicated and maybe even out of date. Possibly I should have sprung for a bigger SSD and left it at that, but this is what I've got so I'd like to make it work.
