Reverting Back Using Recovery Discs

Apr 25, 2015

So, I did a custom install on my laptop to Windows 10. I will like to know if it is possible for me to revert back to my previous windows version using the recovery discs I created?

Installation :: Upgrade Failed Reverting Back To 7

Jan 31, 2016

My father hit yes to upgrad his HP Probook 6407b from Windows 7 to Win 10. He did not realize what he was saying yes to.He brought it to me before it finsihed. I got into win 10, but then had issues with HP security software at boot. It would hang at boot, say something about a finger print reader, and then allow me to log in. So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. Goes to try a startup repair and it does not work. It looks like win 7 trying to do it and not 10.

Is there any way to recover either win 7 or 10?I tried a win 10 usb drive, but it says the upgrade was previously started in windows, turn off machine and restart, but that fails.

Desktop Icons Keep Reverting Back To Default Positions

Aug 17, 2015

First, my desktop icons keep reverting back to default positions. I place my shortcuts at custom locations in my desktop and when I refresh, they go back to the left. And whenever I restart my computer, they change back to the default large icon size.

I've searched the web on how to fix this and I haven't been able to find a working solution on this problem.

Then, Edge is now having a problem too. Edge starts just fine but the problem shows up when you type in a website you wanna go to. It will just sit there doing nothing. It's responding but it's just not doing anything... If you click the open new tab (The plus button) nothing happens. When you try to close it, nothing happens too....

I can still browse the web using other browsers (chrome for example) so it must be on Edge's side.I've ran virus scans with ESET and Windows Defender and they haven't found a virus so I'm pretty sure my computer is clean.

Get Back After Recovery Brought Back Windows 7?

Oct 10, 2015

I was running Windows 7 and upgraded to Windows 10. I lost no data or programs or pictures, etc. Windows 10 worked fine for about a month and then developed a "restart required" loop. After several attempts I tried the Recovery option, thinking it would take me back to a restore point as in Windows 7. Instead it took me back to Windows 7 and all data and programs (other than the Windows 7 default programs) are gone. How can I get back to either 7 with my data and programs or 10 with my data and programs?

How To Go Back To 8.1 (No Recovery Option)

Aug 10, 2015

I've searched around the internet for a bit and I know the easiest way is to go to Settings>Update&Security>Recovery>Go Back to Windows 8.1

but... I don't have that option. I only see "Reset this PC" and "Advanced Startup". I only just got Windows 10 on August 1st so I haven't passed the 30 days yet. Also, I still have the Windows.old on the C drive. I'm not sure what to do here as I can't find much about this issue.

- It took nearly a week to get my display driver to work properly.. and that was only after I had given up on it. I assume that Microsoft sent out some sort of silent, ninja fix.

- My taskbar stops working at least once a day, can't click on anything.

- Microsoft Edge crashes after being open for not very long at all (10 minutes? ..or sooner if I have 2 tabs open.)

- Unable to install CCleaner as it hangs at about the 50% mark of unpacking.

There are more issues with getting games to start up, but those aren't as important.

After Update DVD Player Don't Read Discs

Feb 21, 2016

Well before some months i updated my windows 7 to windows 10.. ALL GOOD my pc is faster.. okay all works fine except my reader which I didn't check it on time..So recently i found that my reader ( drw 00032dvdrw lg 22x sata black) don't read any discs! it has power but it doesn't read! I unplugged it several times ( 2 times with power on and 1 time with power off..) I also can`t find it on the device manager so I thought that my system cant find it because of the changes that may have been from the update 10 . After that big finding, I searched for any update for the reader but i cant find anything...

Drivers/Hardware :: CD / DVD Drive Not Reading Discs

Sep 5, 2015

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my PC has been unable to read any CD/DVD disc I put in. I hear it spinning so I doubt there's any problem with the CD/DVD Drive itself.

I was thinking it could be a driver issue, but there doesn't seem like there's any problems with it. (As usually there's a yellow ! mark if there seems to be a problem.) How to resolve the issue?

Apps Keep Reverting To Taskbar

Sep 8, 2015

I have upgraded to 10. I have Outlook on my task bar and when I open it it opens just fine but if I do something in Outlook like delete an email, it reverts back down to the task bar (it is still open mind you). Same with file manager - say I delete a file then it also reverts to the task bar but again in an open state. I have to click on it again in order to bring it up on screen. My preference is that my app stays on the screen until I have finished with it.

Reverting To Windows 7 Isn't Working?

Aug 20, 2015

i have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 recently, and one day my pc crashed (black screen) so i had to force restart it (the button on the tower). After that, my Profile user got corrupted, and several issues (common for the Windows 10) appeared. (Like: Windows 10 start menu taskbar icons wont respond, Calculator no longer works (You'll need a new app to open this calculator) message, and the view in all the folders reverts to (details) no matter where i change it to (i had it on tiles, and every time i close the folder window and i reopen it, its on Details).

Anyway... i got sick of these problems, and the only solution i had was to create a new profile and abandon my current corrupted one. But i really want to avoid this option because its a new start over, and there are too much apps and programs that i have to reinstall, along with all the folders i have to transfer.

So i wanted to try to revert back to windows 7, and then re-upgrade to windows 10. That would fix the corrupted user. But it seems like there is another issue i have here. When i go to settings -> update & security -> recovery -> Go back to windows 7, and i start the process, my pc make 2 restarts and at the second one, it doesnt continue the downgrade, but it boots the Windows 10 again! It wont let me go back to windows 7. It just reboots...

Indexing Options Keeps Reverting To Default

Aug 21, 2015

I have been trying to set my Windows 10 Home 64-bit computer to index only the Start Menu but not anything else (such as IE Favourites, Documents). I know exactly where all my documents are; the only time I use search is something like, I press the Win key, and type in cmd, or ccleaner, etc. So I really only need Windows to index the start menu.

However, every time after reboot, if I go into Indexing Options they will just revert back to default. Is there a way I can make the changes stick?

Installation :: Keeps Reverting To Password Protected?

Jan 14, 2016

How do I get rid of the password when I start Windows 10? I have successfully done that a few times but it keeps reverting to password protected. I have used windows+R to get to netplwiz.exe and when that didn't work, I went on to regedit and followed the directions at [URL]..... It worked initially but now I'm back to having to use a password after the computer was put in sleep mode. Why does it keep reverting?

Startup Fail After Reverting To Windows 7?

Sep 20, 2015

I downloaded windows 10 from Microsoft windows website and I installed it but I thought of reverting back to windows 7 and so I did. The windows 7 boot up logo showed up but got stuck in between the boot logo. then the windows startup fixing program would be recommended for me and I did it but failed to fix the boot up error. and i cant even start windows from the safe mode as well. So what do i do to bring back windows 7 back up. and which one windows is good 7 or 8 or 8.1 and sure that i wouldn't wanna go back to 10. so how do i start up windows again?? Yeah i guess i will have to make a bootable USB or DVD drive. I would like to go for usb but not sure how to create one bootable usb drive.

Updates :: How To Get Latest Build After Reverting To Earlier One

Jan 25, 2016

Somewhat unusual situation here. A machine running the latest build (11102) got badly infected by malware. It was such a major attack that I was about to reload the earlier day's image from my Windows Home Server. But it seemed even easier to revert to the previous build, not yet removed from the Windows.old folder. This I did, and everything soon was running fine as expected.

The issue is that the Updates check is not offering Build 11102 again. This isn't a showstopper; I'm sure there will be another newer build soon. But it would be nice to be back up on this latest build, just as all my other Win10 machines are running.

Updates :: Windows Update Reverting To Automatic After Being Manually Disabled?

Mar 5, 2016

1) I disabled Windows Update in Services to avoid having to deal with the updates. Later I put it on "manual" instead of "disabled". Today I find that my computer is "installing updates" WITHOUT a) my permission and b) without notifying me that there were updates to install. This thrashed my hard drive with near constant 100% usage from something called Windows Modules Installer Worker. I killed the process, rebooted after some Adobe Reader issue (unrelated....I think). Upon selecting "restart" Windows informs me that it is updating my system WITHOUT my permission. It continues, updates, says finished, restarts to 0%, finishes, reboots.

Upon restart--which takes FOREVER by the way without the "updating" message, when it used to only take a few seconds to boot up--I go to Services where I find Windows Update is set on "running". Even though I manually stopped it, and set it to "manual trigger" start....

2) After restart when I am in Services to kill Windows Update and set to manual--again--I see something called Update Agent, set to run automatically. I do not remember this service from before, and what it does different from Windows Update. I set it on manual as well.

What does Update Agent do differently from Windows Update? They are listed as separate services

What happened to make my computer update without my consent??

Apps :: Windows Keeps Reverting Apps To Default

Jan 10, 2016

After latest update, Windows keeps reverting my apps to default. For example, my default music app/program is Winamp, and after a while I'll just find that it is Groove music again. It is not a huge problem, but you see how it can be irritating. Also, Windows 10 won't recognize some of my usb devices. Mp3 player, and an USB hub. They work in Linux though, so it is not a computer issue.

Recovery Options Gone

Dec 25, 2015

What I'm expecting:

What I get:

I just discover that my recovery options have disappeared, leaving me with the only option to Turn Off my PC instead of the usual "Reset your PC or see advanced options". I enclove two snapshots: One with the expected screen, the other one with the actual screen I got each time I invoque the Windows 10 recovery.

I have no clue whatsoever about how to fix that. My recovery partition is present as well as the EFI partition. Except for this problem my PC is working fine.
