Another issue I see (on a different Win10 machine) is when i right click the start menu the links that are pointed out in red do not work. all other links work fine. It seems the shortcuts are broken but i looked in the user folders and they are all there. clicking the links in the users folder opens the screens but using the shortcut doesn't seem to work. it's very odd.
This is a Win10 Pro machine.
I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had problems going into and out of sleep mode which seem have been resolved by installing updates for Intel Graphics. Now I can't get anything to come up when I left click on the Start button. All of the other icons in the task bar will only work with a left click of the mouse, nothing happens with a right click. Also, I did not get Cortana when I upgraded to Windows 10 on this device. I also upgraded another lap top and have Cortana on that one. With all of these problems occurring one after the other, can I reinstall Windows 10?
View 14 RepliesI have four computers running Win10. On two of them the windows "Start" button on the task bar doesn't work. So I can't get to Settings or Apps. I can right click on the Start button and get the "right-click menu". All of the other task bar buttons work.
What's going on with this? It used to work. For a while it didn't work on my laptop, now that is working but on two other desktop computers it doesn't work. All computers have same Win10 version and latest updates (although hardware differs some between them).
Can I add the "Settings" and "All Apps" shortcut I would normally get left-clicking on the Start button to the Start button's "right-click menu"?
I cannot left click my Start Button, only a right click works, but does not give the same results.
View 15 RepliesSuddenly when I turned on my machine, the left click button on touchpad will no longer work,right click works fine but no left click. This is also true for the touch screen. If I touch the window icon to open the menu, it changes color but does nothing. Things I tried:
1-Connected an external mouse and it also doesn't work with left click.
2-I tried a restore point from last week to see if that solved the problem. Still the same.
What I did to disable the left click button. Could have been caused by a windows update?
This problem is on a desktop computer (HP Pavilion). When I click the start button, the start menu does not display. Pressing the Windows key on the keyboard also does not take me to the start menu.
I can access the right-click menu on the start button and most of the items on the right-click menu respond correctly when clicked (a few don't. No response from "Search" and "Desktop"). I installed Windows 10 over a month ago and have had no problems until now. Everything was working fine yesterday and to the best of my knowledge I have changed no settings since then.
Clicking left on start button should open Cortana and Start Options.
Nothing happens.
There's a hamburger on the top left which will bring up the start menu, Most Used, Recently Added and File Explorer, Settings, etc. At the bottom, Power Symbol and a half hamburger that brings up all Apps.
It does not open the Cortana search.
Don't know what the owner did but all was OK at setup.

I've tried the sfc /scannow on Command Prompt (admin) and the result was nothing detected. I understand that to mean the problem lies elsewhere?
Then I tried the same sort of task typing in powershell, then the following:-

When it was running it came up with 67 'activities not showing' (or something like that!). Looked like they were all apps? The advice was to try the start button when it finished. Nothing. I restarted the laptop, still nothing. I don't know what to try next.
In fact I didn't even know the 'window' on left bottom should show anything. I figured out by right clicking I could turn the computer on/off and just assumed that was the way!! It was only when I had to try to change the 'default' settings so I could open my photos with Windows Viewer that I realised. Then I wanted to change from Bing to Google as default and had to do it in a roundabout way. I have no Microsoft Edge icon either anywhere although when I go to a website through another email it always comes up.
The other thing is that I used to be able to swipe in from right corner to get all my apps. Now I can't. I have a Sony Vaio laptop which had Windows 8.1 and I upgraded to W10 when prompted it was ready for my computer. About 6 weeks ago?
I have just upgraded from seven to ten. At first things were ok but I no longer have anything on the windows icon with left click. Also the new browser will not start and internet explorer browser icon went away.
View 5 RepliesHad a buddy pick up a laptop (W10 home) (lavono) setting up his web connection WIFI, when I was messing around with things I did a rfi9ght mouse click on the start menu where the other items are, and found it was "white" background with black lettering??
I was wondering how to set this? I have the black background with white lettering (W10 Pro) is this the way it is for the different versions home vs pro, or is there a setting to change this? I'd rather have the background white with black lettering.
Yes I know about the personal settings and the colors thing, and the items to check, but nothing seems to change that one area as far as I can see. There's no white color to choose on my list of colors anyway.
My Windows 10 Start button no longer responds to a left click. I now have to resort to right clicking that icon to shut down my laptop.
View 9 Repliesmy start button wont work, i cannot restart my computer and even from the sign on screen the only option i ave it to shut down. my icons are still on the taskbar but i cannot view them and when i open my browsers its deleting my last sessions even when i have them saved to appear each time i open the browser. my time and date is gone as well as any viable option to get to my drivers and computer settings. the only thing ive been able to get to is the actio of using the windows button and pressing r but each seach i get an error message that anything i type cant be found.

View 3 RepliesMy computer tech had me download Windows 10 on my husband's computer. While we were using it last night the Start button quit working. Part of the toolbar were deleted also. It appears this is a common Windows 10 issue. I have tried all the fixes I can find, but am hesitant to download from unknown sources.
View 5 RepliesSee my post below about upgrade issues. I just downloaded and installed the old Windows 7 games. I went to start to find them and up came this error. A blue rectangle appears on the screen and says they will try to fix it when I sign out and in again. I have just done that three times. I have also switched users. The other user has the start menu working just fine. Stupidly I am back to my own login so I can't tell you exactly what the error message says.
Is there any other way to access programs (apps as they are now called) other than via the start menu?
Since my start button does not work, is there any other way to get to settings to view installed updates?

It has been working well until about a week ago, when suddenly one evening (it worked well throughout the day) when I clicked on the start button the tiles did not show up. I have done sfc scan and DIMS/restore health many times; all of them show there are no system integrity issues. I am able to work on my files by going through file explorer. Right click on start button works, but left click doesn't.
About two days ago, I got a notification windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n142txeyewy!microsoft.windows.in. I searched all over for a solution to this problem...and finally in one of the threads in this site I found the following solution provided by USgroupie in August 2015 (13th Aug) to enter the following command in Powershell - Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} - I entered this and the system ran the whole process and did come up with a number of red-notifications saying it could not register a number of Apps...
However, the beauty is that after I upgraded to w10, I have not installed any apps except ofcourse the office 2010, adobe reader and such. In fact I have never used the app store...I have an MS account but I use only a local account.
i try to left-click on the windows start button, nothing happens. the other half of the time, the appropriate menu of apps comes up. the right-click part of the start button ALWAYS works. is there a way to fix the start button so it always works? OR is there a way i can bring up the menu from the right-click menu--perhaps a command prompt....

View 2 RepliesTried both Edge and Chrome browsers as default. Hyperlinks work properly from progs, as they should, but nothing happens when I try to click on links from Apps.
Seems like the new start menu has some hyperlinks and nothing happens when I click them:
Red boxes do not work.
Same goes for the Twitter app, every time there is a tweet with a browser link, nothing happens.
Tried messing around with the default browsers, but never got it to work.
Hyperlinks seems to work from normal progs though.
Start button, keyboard windows button and Microsoft Edge do not work any more.
View 9 RepliesI upgraded windows a few months ago. about a month ago my search bar and my start button didnt work and no matter what i clicked i couldnt get it to work. I wasnt to mad about that but now i cant right click my icons and ive tried restarting windows explorer and ive googled alot. Its starting to bug me to the point where it may be better to go back to windows 7 or do a fresh install to get rid of all the problems.
View 1 RepliesI updated to windows 10 last week and everything worked. Now if I right click on the start menu, the context menu items other than Run, shut down, search or desktop no longer do anything.
Cortana always asks me to switch my speech language, but if I ignore that it works and answers typed questions. (no microphone). I can type in words like Control panel or file explorer or device manager and they work. Clicking on the menu items does nothing. There are many old threads on this forum on the subject, but none of them work. (cannot try the restore computer option due to large data files and existing programs). Just checked on my laptop and it all works as it should (except Cortana)...
I was about to change my Wi fi settings, to detect my working Internet, when suddenly I clicked Wi Fi button the whole control panel freezed. I used task manager to terminate it. Later, some links couldn't work, for example, I needed to press "change adapter settings" for priority, but it did not immediately open.

Have tried sfc/scanow, DISM.exe/online/cleanup-image/scanhealth & many of the remediesfrom the net with no luck. Surprisingly the second profile on the computer is working fine. I am at a point of returning to windows 8.1
