View 4 RepliesPreviously if I double clicked the shortcuts of Steam, Origin and Uplay while they were running instantly maximized their windows. Now if I double click them it takes a long time before they are maximized as if the computer is reloading them from scratch. I also have GOG Galaxy as a shortcut but it does not happen with that icon. What do you think changed?
The only thing that IO think might be related is that I disabled indexing of C drive but I later found that it was not a good idea and changed it back to indexing enabled.

Right so, I have been trying to create application shortcuts in the "all apps" of the start menu. I've had success with some shortcuts. Here is a screenshot, with an example of what I am talking. The following shortcuts are behaving as I want them to,The following shortcut is not behaving as I want it to.. it keeps pinning to start despite all my attempts to unpin it and recopy to the folder, they are all shortcuts to executable files. Why is windows handling some of them differently?
store app not launching in my windows 10
View 1 RepliesToday I've been setting up my new rig and I've been hitting an issue, some programs will not launch. The three main programs I've been having issues with are:
-Paint, won't start no matter what I do
-Geforce Experience, starts the launcher but wont open the main program
-League of Legends, Launcher works but trying to start the game usually wont work.
I've tried various compatibility modes and administrator modes with these and yet nothing, not even an error.
GTA 5 don't work on my windows 10 X64 , every time I receive error 0xc00007b , I just tried all solutions (that I saw here: [URL] ....) , but still don't work.
View 2 RepliesI have just upgraded my windows 7 to windows 10 and everything seemed to go through as expected. However I have found that now when I click the Start Menu nothing happens, it is similar for the Search Bar, Network, Volume, Notifications, etc.My biggest problem is that I can't get to the Settings app to roll back to windows 7.
View 1 RepliesFor the past few weeks, File Explorer in Windows 10 launches at random during the day. No keyboard action is involved...it just launches.
Is there a way to defeat this behavior or is this just a bug within Windows 10.
I have a new computer that came with W10 installed. Now one week on the above apps fo not launch. I have run System file Checker that reported it had found and repaired corrupt files (already!!). However the apps still do not launch.
View 9 RepliesI have been trying for hours to install windows 10 home on my newly built PC but i can't because there is a problem. I bought the usb version since i don't have an optical drive bay.
The problem: I can start the setup, but when i launch the installation my pc suddenly restarts and boots the usb again, so i get back at the 32/64 bit selection screen. This happens when i click "next" after choosing my drive (see included video). The drive i'm using is a Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
I have tried numerous things to fix it including: removing the ram (2x8GB) and putting it back, trying with one ram stick, removing the graphics card and use the integrated graphics card, use different usb ports, use different sata ports, removing the hdd (i can't even start the setup with the hdd plugged in).
I also downloaded Windows 10 from the official website and put it on an other usb stick, the same problem occurs.
I even tried with Ubuntu and the same problem happens!! When i launch the installation my pc reboots and the setup restarts!
I have made a video showing what happens (win 10): [URL] ....
I also made a video that shows my BIOS: [URL] ....
Everything looks fine... but it doesn't work!!
I seem to be unable to launch the media creation tool. Everytime I try to run the .exe (even in safe mode or as an administrator) after I get the UAC dialog nothing happens.
I don't get any kind of error dialog or even see the program or process in my task manager.
I have windows 10 running in Bootcamp ( MacOS. I upgraded to Windows 10 pro from Wind 8.1 Pro.
After upgrade I notice that Maps app and Photos app keep launching automatically , even after closing them. I'm not sure what is triggering them.
I have verified that these apps are not in autostart ( msconfig).
Just this past week I have been getting windows 10 crashes, either at launch or just entering World of Warcraft. I have over 20 tickets with gm's of the game and they have now told me that they have exhausted all their efforts in attempts.
I pretty much tried everything I could and now am in the hands of the experts. I tried to look at all I could but cannot find a solution. Only once I got the message driver irql_less_or_not_equal windows 10 jraid.sys , otherwise the computer hangs. I have a video of what happens on my googledrive account
MOV_0446.mp4 - Google Drive
I hope I attached the correct file. I used the exe to provide a report.
Things I have already done.
-removed addons from game
-performed repair of game
-re-installed game
-tried to update all drivers as best I could
-cleared video drivers using CCcleaner twice and reinstalled
-tried to find a jraid sys file online and replace it
I had five games installed on my son's laptop before upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10. These games were all running perfectly before the upgrade, but now only two of the five will launch.
The ones that won't open, are Gardenscapes, Mortimer Beckett and the Lost King, and Mortimer Beckett and the Crimson Thief.
They are all still in the Games folder. Is there a way of getting them to launch, or will I have to uninstall and then reinstall them?
TI had a problem with Windows store not working or edge not launching on my PC etc etc what is the best method to try and fix without draconian measures? if something went wrong I would want to try and restore functionality with as little requirement to go back and re install stuff as possible. I'd look to a measure that leaves user accounts intact and things like iTunes, steam, all my games, game clients, office 2016 all still installed and not removed. To lose all of that just to try and get the store or edge back and running seems too severe. It would take many, many hours perhaps days to get back to where I was. Especially would be nervous about iTunes which with its connection to iCloud music library would be disastrous to unsettle. I have my boot SSD drive and a larger secondary mechanical hard drive. All my software is installed across both locations although the steam library resides on the secondary given the colossal game install sizes we have nowadays.
View 2 RepliesLately i have been receiving BSOD kernel security check failure EVERYtime i lauch Corel video Studio x8 pro on my laptop. I have been using it for a while and it has never crashed on me when i used windows 8. On windows 10 it worked for a while but few days back it just started to BSOD me everytime i have opened the app, and yes, i have tried to run it with different graphics processor. I have uninstalled it completely and then reinstalled it. Then it worked for a day and it happened again.
View 7 RepliesI just installed the TP Link T6e 1300 WiFi adapter card and everything was ok until I noticed that all my applications are launching in 32-bit instead of 64-bit. Some programs won't open, but are "running" according to task manager in 32-bit. Is there anyway I can troubleshoot this?
OS:
WIndows 10

I have downloaded Windows 10 as I am sure you all have. When I right-click [on a .jpg] on the desktop it takes ages to bring-up the context menu and invariably does NOT RESPOND [so my task manager tells me]. How do I fix this?
View 2 RepliesMy Win10 Home 64 bit computer was working correctly yesterday. Today there was one notification which just showed 'windows.immersivecontrolpanel-cw5n1h2xyewy! microsoft.windows.it', although I am not sure if the last part was something like 'immersive' as the last character looked strange, so could have been part of a letter.
At the same time I had update KB3081438 which required a restart, so I powered down as usual, rather than restarting, waited 20secs and then started up again. Now clicking the start button does nothing except that the icon changes colour. In addition I had Settings pinned to the task bar and now there is just a space where it used to be. I can click on the messages icon in the tray on the right and open Settings that way, but it is quite slow to respond. I have also noticed that a couple of other icons are missing, but there is a space where they used to be.
I did a System Restore to a restore point created yesterday but all that did was mess up Office 2016 which I had to do a repair on. Quick Repair did not solve the problem but the full repair did, although it was a bit of a struggle to get Office to reconnect to my account as it did not like my MS Passport login, and did not accept the key I copied from MSs website.
So I just realized whenever I click on any folder (desktop or file explorer files) it will not respond then the folder will exit and my monitors turn black then back to normal. I have also searched for a virus but cant find any.
View 1 RepliesWhen i try opening a folder, an error pops up. That's because cmd is my default action when double clicking. This all started after installing some Windows 10 updates. how to get rid of cmd on my context menu?
View 1 RepliesI have been having this issue(described in the thread title) since last week. Everytime I open the windows store and click on any app displayed in the first page or if I search it and then click on an app The windows store simply shutdown...
I have tried so many different things that I don't even know what else to try. I have already run sfc /scannow ..Dism restore health commands.. reinstalling all windows store apps through powershell and a few more things...
What should I do next? I don't want to reinstall windows 10 again.. and by the way, I created a new account and it still doesn't work.. This is what I found in the windows administrative logs :

when I try to open a specific app (Plex), it opens that one plus another one (iTunes). I've tried reorganizing the tiles, removing them then pinning them back again but it still happens. I made sure I have the latest updates installed.
View 2 RepliesMy second HDD (Samsung HD155UI, 1,5 TB) is, as of today, clicking every 30 seconds, as in briefly parking the head or something. I've been using that drive for over 3 years without one single problem, and only recently (i.e. less than a week ago) did I upgrade to Windows 10 - while at the same time swapping out some parts for good measure - CPU, Motherboard, GPU and RAM. Of course I did the whole clean install shebang, and in the beginning everything ran absolutely smoothly. Installed all of my apps and drivers, moved all of my data back, and no problems whatsoever. Yes, Windows is activated.
Now today I'm playing - ironically - Clicker Heroes on Steam. I usually leave it idling in the background while I'm doing other stuff on the PC, however I've started to notice this regular clicking sound. At first I thought it was my external hard drive - turned that off, no dice. Eavesdropped into my PC and quickly found out it was the secondary HDD, as my main SSD couldn't possibly be the source of the noise. Panic ensued, immediately ran a backup in case the drive went south. During the backup, no clicking whatsoever. After it was done, the clicking resumed.
Chkdsk'd the quick way, and once with /r - during the checks, the drive's quiet as a ninja, but once those completed without errors, click. Click. Click.
CrystalDiskInfo also shows my Drive in good health, and I have the latest firmware for it too. Event viewer showed no irregularities (apart from one single "ID 157 - Disk 2 has been surprise removed"), so I thought it must be some idle setting or power management thing. Checked power options a thousand times, "turn off hard disk after" setting was initially at 20, I set it to 0, then 60, then 120. Nothing changed whatsoever.
BIOS power management settings are all turned off as far as I am concerned. Pretty sure I combed everything through, unless there's some hidden setting.
Now, cue the Resource monitor. It clearly shows some activity spikes (blue curve) every time the drive clicks, which happens exactly every 30 seconds. However, I cannot for the life of me identify what it is that is causing these spikes.
At some point I suspected something with the Chipset or something, maybe RST was messing with my HDD. But uninstalling it (as well as disabling RST in BIOS) yielded no substantial improvement.
So now what's left for me to do is:
- Boot into Safe mode, see if issue prevails there
- Plug the SATA cable of the HDD into a different port, see if that changes anything
- Try a different hard drive (that I don't have right now so meh)
- reinstall Windows 10 (last resort, I'd rather avoid this)
Does it turn Location privacy on and off?
