SSD Does Not Show For Boot Order

Oct 8, 2015

Fresh built I7 6700k build with Windows 7 on it. I want to upgrade to Windows 10. I see in advanced settings i need to set win8/8.1/10 enabled, but it my SSD does not show for boot order (where the downloaded upgrade is). I got a boot error on first install and it jacked my Win7 license key. I am back on 7 and i will try again. On a broader note: am i to assume Z170a boards do not like Win7?

Changing Boot Order With Secure Boot Enabled

Oct 27, 2015

Basically, I have a really bleepty BIOS that will only let me change the boot order with secure boot disabled and legacy boot enabled. I need secure boot because I just installed windows 10 onto a new drive and it won't activate. I have heard that this has something to do with secure boot being disabled. I still have the activated drive, which is the primary drive. Is there anything I can do to change the boot order?

Apps :: Windows Photo Viewer - Sorting Order Not The Same As View Order

Aug 5, 2015

The Windows Photo Viewer will not display photos in the order they are sorted by Windows Explorer. This is not referring to the slide show feature, just the forward and back arrows. The only order pictures can be viewed is by name despite Windows Explorer being set at view by date, ascending.

I have repaired Microsoft Live Essentials, uninstalled and reinstalled but the issue remains. This is also not an issue with photo tags or photo names. Windows Explorer sorts as selected but click a picture in the middle to view, click the forward arrow and instead of the next date picture being viewed, the next name picture is viewed.

After Upgrade Can't Access BIOS To Change Boot Order For W7 Reinstall

Jan 6, 2016

Have a Lenovo H420 desktop that was upgraded about 2 months ago. We backed up everything and want to reinstall Windows 7.

But I can find no way to get into the Setup screen. I've gone to Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Startup and Restart Now. But I have no option to Use a Device. If I choose Troubleshoot then Advanced Options, the subsequent screen has no option for UEFI Firmware Settings.

I've disabled Fast Boot through Power Options in the Control Panel, then tried F2 and the Delete key when starting. Nothing...

The fact that I can't do something that was so easy in Windows 7 is enough reason in itself to remove 10. Throw in the fact that the scanner part of my printer no longer works is just icing on the cake. I have the Windows 7 disk. I just can't figure out how to use it.

Files Don't Show On HDD Whenever Boot From SSD

Jan 20, 2016

Right so I purchased an Kingston 120GB SSD and installed it without a problem. I wanted to put my OS on the SSD and boot from it. So I downloaded windows 10 from microsoft.com and put it on my USB drive. Booted from the USB drive and installed windows 10 to my SSD. I can now successfully boot from my SSD.

But there's a problem. Whenever I boot from my ssd non of my HDD files are there. But when I boot back from the HDD everything is back to the way it was. Is there any way of getting the files when I boot from my SSD? It's like there's two separate windows 10 on my ssd and hdd.

How To Print Pages In Reverse Order

Feb 1, 2016

My old printer printed the LAST page of a document first - so that when you got the document from the out tray it was in the correct order. I have just got an Epson 2550 and it's printing the first page first so I need to reorder every document. I did their online chat and they said I needed to change settings in powerpoint/word etc - but I can't find anything.

Installation :: Partitions Not In Correct Order?

Feb 10, 2016

Windows 10 Pro
Biostar TZ77XE4

I have been able to "successfully" boot the CD Drive into UEFI mode to install Windows 10 onto my new 4TB SSHD, but I run into the error were it stats that the partitions are not in the recommended order, when the ONLY partitions on the disk are the primary and the "protective MBR" before it at slot 0. Now, when I am in windows for the first time everything seems fine, but as soon as I restart after doing basic setup, I run into an issue where I cannot browse any partitions (I try to open "This PC", but it acts like it is indexing indefinitely and I never see the drive listing).

It looks like Windows 10 may not be appropriately setting the order for the partitions. the moment I left my original installation on my 1TB HHD intact, so that I can still have an operating PC, and find out some info on this.

Desktop Icon Sort Order

Desktop Shortcuts - Preserve Order Of The Icons?

Aug 19, 2015

Noticed that their shortcuts on the desktop gets rearanched from time to time for no apperant reason? When I had last shutdown, I had a shortcut to Firefox and Excel located just below the "Recycle Bin" which is the second icon down on the left hand side of the screen below the icon for "My Computer".

When I next turned on my computer the shortcut icons had changed order with the shortcut to Excel at the top, followed by "My Computer", Firefox and "Recycle Bin".

Is there a setting in the registry somewhere that preserves the order of the icons?

Toolbar Link Order - How To Arrange Non-alphabetically

Oct 9, 2015

I prefer to use the toolbar for multiple tabs, each with several links to launch programs. In Win7, I was able to arrange the order to my preferences, the most used programs at the top. Since I updated to Win10, some tabs are still in non-alpha order, and some not. If I rearrange them to my preference, the next time I open the toolbar tab, they are back to alpha order. How to arrange in non-alpha order?

In What Order Should Install ASUS Laptop Drivers

Jan 31, 2016

ASUS N61JQ, Win 7.

I just did a fresh install of win 7 home Premium, and installed the windows updates that came up automatically. I'd like to keep this system free of bloat and I do NOT have the driver update/laptop install disc.

I have formatted the SSD twice now because (I think) I installed drivers in an improper order; I keep having different issues with unrecognized hardware or sound not working etc. This time around I have gone only with Win 7 updates and now I would like to install only what is necessary to get this back to gaming.

So what is the order I should go on? Here is the list of drivers available from ASUS: [URL] .....

So is it chipset 1st... then restart... then GFX drivers+restart then... etc. Just getting this machine to work properly again

Browser/Email :: Rearranging Order Of Mail Accounts

Aug 15, 2015

I have six e-mail accounts established in my Windows 10 Mail. It appears the accounts are listed in the order they were created. However, I just had to add another e-mail account and it is at the bottom of the list. Is there any way to rearrange the list? In Windows 8.1 you could move the accounts up and down in the order that you wanted them listed. The procedure used in Windows 8.1 does not work in Windows 10.

File Explorer Has Changed The Order It Shows Stuff

Win 7 did it, and Win 10 did. I have my downloads go to E:Downloads, like to keep them separate. Win 10 use to show first the files by date, and then any folders under them. Now it is showing all folders first and then the downloaded files. I have tried everything in the view/group by, and sort by to try and get it back to where it was but no luck.

Keep Hanging And Using High Disk Usage Partition Order?

Aug 10, 2015

So I've tried multiple different installations of windows 10 on my hp envy 17 (no slug of a machine, i5-12gb ram etc) Stretching back to the previews. I'm also running windows 7 on the laptop in a dual boot situation. The disk has a built in HP recovery partition from the original windows 8 that came with it. I had split the HDD and started dual booting windows 7 as my main OS, but left the other Win 8 OS alone.

When I went to install windows 10 to a new partition from the start, the system became almost unusable. Hanging every few seconds, sometimes taking 1-2 minutes just to write a short series of words as each key press would take ages to register or the mouse wouldn't move. All the troubleshooting showed no particular reason. The only odd standout would be that the disc usage would keep spiking to 99-100% every time, and almost each one of those times it happened as I watched in the task manager/performance manager, i'd be seeing an item at the top usage showing fraction of the normal top write/read speed, something like 1.5mb/s....even with that low a transfer rate, it just kept reporting the disc was at 100% usage while it proceeded to freeze for the next 10 seconds-1 min+.

So I tried re-installing using different methods, different builds, tweaking the paging file and fastboot settings as recommended. Eventually, I figured maybe I'd have more luck booting up the existing windows 8 partition and doing the "get windows 10" upgrade root over the dvd/usb upgrades and clean installs route I had tried. No luck. Marginally better. I've already tried getting proper drivers/upgrades. I've tweaked settings and tested the disc in multiple ways. No errors or issues. If I restarted an install, I never just reinstalled over top, it was wiped to rule out cross contamination. One thing I haven't covered yet is this.

During the installs, I originally had issues with being told I couldn't install to "this gpt partition" That would be fixed by using rufus to make the bootable usb with the file structure. When I try these installs/win 10 logins, it's been either as regular uefi boot mode OR legacy mode (windows 7 support) So i've ruled out the boot mode as a source...I think. A few times I received a message about the partitions not being in the optimal/preffered order by the windows 10 installer. After having read about the issue at the directed ms link, it sounds like it could be an issue. I include the following screen shot of the partition manager, as I don't want to mess with the wrong partitions. Windows 10 is C drive in this case. The partitions before are either recovery or boot partitions. For what system/os

Browser/Email :: Favorite Bar Icons Changed Save Order After TH2 Update

Dec 3, 2015

Using Win10 x64 with IE11, and after the latest major update(TH2) immediately I noticed that whenever I save anything in "fav bar" it now saves and the icon appears from left-hand side. Earlier any saves I did the icons started from right-side/far end side of the fav. bar.

So, is there a way I can revert so tht new saved icons get saved on right-side of the bar?

Customization :: Change Order Of Items In File Explorer Jump List

Feb 11, 2016

In versions prior to 10 one could drag and drop items in jump list. In Windows 10 it's different (but certainly not better. Why do they mess with this stuff????)

In Windows 10, if you open File Explorer, you can drag and drop the pinned folders under the Quick Access header on the left. When you right click File Explorer icon pinned to taskbar, the items will be in the same order as established in the Quick Access heading in File Explorer.

Installation :: Wrong Drive Letter In Msconfig / Boot In Dual Boot System

Jan 27, 2016

In my desktop I have two hard disks ( disk 0 and disk 1 ) . Disk 1 is a clone of disk 0 created by Macrium Reflect
Disk 0 : ( C: ) windows 10 pro , upgrade from windows 7 , ( E: ) windows 8.1 pro , ( G: ) Storage partition
Disk 1 : clone of disk 0

problem description : I see in msconfig / boot a wrong listing

windows 10 ( C:WINDOWS) : Current OS ; Default OS

windows 8.1 pro ( H:WINDOWS ) instead of ( E:WINDOWS )

Nevertheless the dual booting works fine as well as the shift between the disks via BIOS.

The question is , could I fix the situation using the EasyBCD of Neosmart Technologies to edit the bootloader ?

I see can change drive letter H: to E: and save the change , am I right or wrong ? or any other way ....

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media After Installing From USB?

Nov 10, 2015

After installing a 32 bit windows 10 from a USB by mistake I decided to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I have 3 hard drives, one of which is an ssd that I am trying to install the OS to. After downloading and setting up the media creation tool and creating a USB I restarted and boot form USB.

I followed the steps and deleted the existing windows 10 partitions on my dad and tried installing straight to the unallocated space. After the installation completed it restarted the installer, which is not what happened when I previously successfully install windows 10. I then changed the boit order to have my ssd first and rebooted, which gave me the Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media error.

Confused I loaded up the installed and there were correctly partitioned installs already on the ssd ( although one partition looked a little small). I tried reinstalling windows 10 with the same result over and over.

Installation :: Upgrade Path From Dual Boot Back To Single Boot

Sep 24, 2015

My laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?

I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.

My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.

Recovery Drive Boot Fails With Missing Boot Configuration Data

Feb 2, 2016

When I try to boot from a recovery flash drive, it fails with: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD error status: 0xc000000f and message: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

The recovery flash drive was created on a Lenovo ideapad originally with Windows 8, now upgraded to Windows 10, latest upgrades applied. Checked the box for copying system files. Target drive was a 16GB DataTraveler flash drive formatted as FAT32. Creation ran to completion with no errors. When booting normally, Windows 10 runs fine with no issues. I tried re-creating the recovery drive with the same results.

I created a repair disk and tried to use bootrec to fix the issue, but I suspect it did nothing or fixed the c: drive. I ran boot rec while in the root directory on the flash drive.
