View 1 RepliesI'm having a weird issue since i installed windows 10, After installing, drivers, apps, etc., suddenly after using the PC for a few days, after startup apps finish loading and everything, when i try to open any application (browser, explorer, something with uac prompt, anything..) The screen flashes and turns off for a second and then everything come back to normal, This is my 2nd fresh installation for windows 10, I thought there could be something wrong with the drivers, i double checked them, I even replaced all of the apps that i used to have! , spent lots of time to look for alternatives (Avira instead of Kaspersky, 7zip instead of WinRAR, etc.),
View 9 RepliesWindows 10 installed beautifully and seems to run fast on my Toshiba laptop but the screen flashes every 30 seconds. When it flashes it looks like a small window opens and closes immediately. Any dialogue box open is reset, and there is disk activity. 2 tasks pop up to the top of the list in Task Manager: dwm.exe and explorer.exe. It happens all the time, whether there are any applications open or not.
View 10 RepliesAfter installing Windows 10 my laptop screen is flashing during thw start up menu. Some of the icons are loaded, others are not. The screen flashes constantly. I have not attempted to go into safe mode yet. My laptop met all the requirements for an upgrage so I am frustrated todaay with this.
View 9 RepliesW10 (64 bit Home) has been working OK on this laptop but recently I have been able to open the settings screen for only a micro-second. Having found people having the same problem I have tried running SFC several times, as suggested, but it says it found an issue it could not resolve.
Again following instructions on the forum I tried running DISM with an iso loaded and this hung at 40% for hours (overnight).
I do not understand what to look for in the log file, but there are several lines that mention an error. I attach the log file (zipped)....
Yesterday, after getting infected with malware, I decided to freshly reinstall windows 10 on my computer. However, after reinstalling it, I noticed that my bootup was very slow. During the windows logo part of the bootup, the screen flashes once, and the loading circle of dots becomes slow and low quality. Afterwards, the screen turns black for ~40 seconds, and then I get to the login screen.. And sometimes, I get that issue after logging in.
What didn't load in my bootlog:
BOOTLOG_LOADED SystemRootSystem32driversdxgkrnl.sys
BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED SystemRootSystem32driversdxgkrnl.sys
BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED SystemRootSystem32driversdxgkrnl.sys

BOOTLOG_LOADED SystemRootsystem32driversWdFilter.sys
BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED SystemRootsystem32driversWdFilter.sys
after performing an upgrade, I have 2 recovery partitions, the same size, one at the beginning of the disk and the new one at the end of the disk
I only need one, right?
Two ideas came to mind:
1 boot into linux, copy the contents of the second partition to the first partition, and then delete the second partition.
2 use EaseUs partition master to delete the first partition and then move the second partition to its place.
I have VAIO E VPCEH3AEA...

I searched for sony shared library but I couldn't find my product...
Today I had a notification of a Win 10 updates. The updates installed and my PC booted and now I have a Black Background screen which I am not able to now change.
It was after installing these updates and I do not know which one is the culprit.

I've noticed that while with Vista you could choose as a background screen the folder Pictures and the slideshow would includes all the sub folders as well, now you can choose only a specific folder ( if you choose Pictures and it contains only sub folders the screen get stuck with the last picture displayed ).
View 3 RepliesI upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and I notice that some of the "Start Menu" functions do not work.
For example:
- When I use "Pin to Start" nothing gets pinned.
- When I try to use "Don't show in this list" under the "Most used" section the app still remains showing.
- When I go under "Settings > Personalization > Start" screen and turn OFF "Show most used apps" this section is still visible under the "Start Menu".
How I can fix these issues and get the "Start Menu" working properly again?
Is there an easy way to change the Login screen background?
View 4 RepliesMy Windows 10 is having major problems. So many that I would rather just remove the entire thing. I found a website that said you can revert to your previous OS in settings, but my problem is I cannot even get there. The entire task bar and start menu are not working, although I can see them. I saw in another post that Windows Logo Key + I opens up settings, but my Windows Logo Key doesn't do anything.
I also cannot click on the notification icon to open up the settings. The few things I can do: double click on desktop icons to open them, right-click on desktop, and Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Task Manager freezes when I open it (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). How can I remove Windows 10 given these constraints? Also, the time on the taskbar is also not changing from when I turned the computer on.
After several restarts the windows button started working, so I took the opportunity to remove Windows 10.
The new Operating System has damaged the mouse drag and drop usage in many of my programs that I use.
It takes between 5 and 20 times to effectively grab an item and move it to the location correctly with many false results in the meantime.
Also, many other mouse uses are affected as well, Marking items in lists and selecting multiple items really has become very hard to do.
Mostly MSN seems to have ignored these new problems and has made no effort to point out that they even exist.
you can set both your sleep & hibernate timings in either Battery mode or AC mode; very straight forward; it is a page in settings where you can a) set up a "power plan" , and on the same page, a setting for 'how long before the unit sleeps", ie-1 sec, 5 sec, 1 minute, 5 min, 15 min, 1 hr, 5 hour, Never (in both battery and AC modes); no matter what I set it at, even "Never" the screen drops off in approx. 3-5 sec ....
View 1 RepliesThis started yesterday, I can use the windows searchbar ONCE, then later on it will not work until I restart my computer, I cant open the adjust menu where I change my background and windows theme. My sound is randomly turning off, I've tried different headsets so that's not the problem.
I feel that my windows is overall not working like it should, Is there a way I can go back to Windows 7 or some update I've missed? I just noticed I cant play youtube videos either
I would assume people may want to tinker with their logon screen background picture. (an example of this screen, to clarify, is below)
This is the picture that is behind the logon screen, which is by default the Windows 10 hero wallpaper. If you would like to change this image to your accent color, here's how
WARNING: To do this option, you will have to mess with registry settings. As you may know, registry settings influence the way Windows works on your machine. Therefore, if you do something incorrectly, you may have to reinstall Windows. Proceed with caution.
The first step is to open Run (+R) and type regedit
Once Registry Editor opens, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem. There, make a new DWORD value called DisableLogonBackgroundImage and set the value to 1 to change it to your accent color. If you ever wish to revert this change, setting it to 0 will revert it back to the 'Hero' image.
Restart and your logon screen background will now be your accent color that you have selected. If it changes, the color of your logon screen will change as well.
Just installed Windows 10 on my primary laptop and the lock screen is a solid blue (if I change my theme color, the lock screen changes too). However, I have Windows Spotlight turned on. I've tried setting a static picture or slideshow as the background. I also confirmed that the files needed for Windows Spotlight are indeed downloaded onto my computer. It just refuses to change. It's worth noting that on my secondary computer with Windows Insider builds, I have, and have been having, the same problem.
View 9 RepliesHaving difficulty adding a picture / wallpaper to the lock screen. I have just set up windows 10 screen saver and I see you can change the lock screen back ground picture.
I have tried adding either one of the windows wallpapers or one of my own pictures but I can't find any option to save the image. on closing the window & returning to the lock screen the picture does not appear to save and returns to the standard blue background with date and time.
I can't find any option to save the image as a lock screen wallpaper.
I was wondering where the login screen background image is stored? I'm trying to change it to a different image
View 6 RepliesI am currently unable to set a lock screen background image (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit). When on the Lock Screen customization window, it is pretty bare with no images to choose from. Browsing and choosing any image results in nothing happening and it does not add it (refer to LockScreen image attached). If I try to set it when viewing any image it has the error "Can't set as lock screen. Make sure the file isn't damaged and try again." (refer to PhotoSet image attached). Also note that the Slideshow option is not in the dropdown either.
Some background on this is probably needed, so here's what has happened/been done:
In Windows 8.1 I customized the default lock screen to a custom image using the guide at [URL] (the manual method/Option 2). Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 10 and it set the lock screen to a basic color. Then the fun started...
1. Lock Screen customization appeared normal/functional. Tried choosing a different image or custom image. It would appear set, but lock screen would not change (even after reboot).
2. Tried troubleshooting by taking the same actions as in Windows 8.1. Did the same actions for the new folders that Windows 10 uses in the %ProgramData%MicrosoftWindowsSystemData folder (deleted the images within the lettered folder(s)).
3. Checked every Registry Key I found mention of when searching online (none needing to be changed).
4. I renamed the SystemData folder as a website recommended. Windows did make a new, fresh copy. However this is what kicked it over to the state I am in now. Restoring the old folder did no good.
5. Before coming here I did one last thing. I ran sfc /scannow. It claimed the img100 was corrupt and replaced it, but nothing changed.
What I can do to restore the functionality of the Lock Screen customization without reinstalling Windows? Note that I am not trying to change the logon screen background...even though I would love to do that too. Other than this issue everything is running great/perfect.
I don't like the default one-color background when startingshutting down WIndows. I don't mean logon screen nor the lock screen. I mean this:
Is there any way to replace this one-color background with any wallpaper?
The actual upgrade process went completely smooth, without a hitch. HOWEVER, after restarting the now upgraded Windows 10 environment does not allow for basic functions such as taskbar, web browsing, right-click desktop, click on Edge or Notifications and nothing happens, etc etc...
View 9 RepliesI need MSDN in offline mode specially for Windows API functions. I downloaded VS2013Documention.iso (~4GB) but it is not contain full Windows API (WIN32) Reference like MSDN2004, I have MSDN-April2004 discs but when want to install in Windows10 encounter some errors and could not complete setup (I pointed out in Win7 its worked properly).
View 1 RepliesI am pretty good with computer but I have ran in to a problem I just can't fix. The operating system will not let me change the lock screen background mode from Windows Spotlight to something else. I have searched for an hour without any luck. My laptop has had a history of breaking down. The first time was hard drive failure and I have lost all my data. The second time I needed to repair was when the computer got so slow it was unusable and eventually got blue screens at boot And I needed to reinstall the operating system. When I try to go to edit the setting it is grayed out and on the top it says Some settings are managed by your organization" I am not apart of any organization and I am the only user on the computer with Administrator privileges.
View 9 RepliesI have a clean (other than a few new programs) windows 10 install on my pretty powerful desktop. Just today for some irrational reason, when I boot up my PC, and select the OS I want, I'm met with a great screen with the spinning dot animation. So j left it. I left it for a while. It took nearly 2 hours to get to the lock screen. I thought it was running a disk check or installing updates or somthing annoying so I ignored it. Fast forward to this evening. I had a BSOD from what I think was a bad OC. Booted up PC and was met with the same grey background with white spinning dots. I'm able to press ctl+alt+del and get the options for power/restart/sleep and ease of access/accessibility in the bottom right corner, but no amount of restarts seems to get past this. So I'm sitting here waiting for it to muscle through to the lock screen like it did this afternoon...
P. S. Windows 10 installer USB drive startup repair said it couldn't do anything.
