For the last few weeks I've had this bizarre issue where my screen will randomly dim. I can't click on anything when this happens.. The only way to fix it, is to either restart my computer or re-log.
I tried everything I can, but can't seem to fix it. I reinstalled windows several times (actually, seven times), trying to get an update to not install, but it still got installed. So basically, what's happening is that whenever my screen is light, it's brightness goes up, and whenever my screen is dark it's brightness goes down. Now I wouldn't have minded if it were not noticeable, but it's very distracting.
The laptop works fine with a keyboard but whenever i try connecting a mouse it stops sleeping or dimming and i know it's not the mouse because i tried it on a different laptop (windows 10).
I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and whenever i right click on desktop the screen turns black. Check out video for more details(The video is in windows 8.1 but the problem is the same and still persists).
I'm running a small, industry specific program in Windows. It runs fine on a LOT of Windows 10 installs, but on the occasional Windows 10 machines I have the following happen.
- The program loads like normal. - The user is prompted to enter a PIN to enter the software. - The software just sits there, showing no input even though the user has entered their PIN. - If I right click on the taskbar, all of a sudden the PIN shows as entered. - The user then presses the login button and again, nothing happens. - If I right click on the taskbar, again, the software refreshes and the next screen is shown.
This goes on and on. The app will only refresh when the task bar has been right clicked.
Now interestingly out of the say 10 or so Windows 10 machines that we've had issues with, some of them can be fixed by running a Windows Update. Others can be fixed by running in compatibility mode. The screen of a program won't refresh until you right click the task bar?
In any account, including Administrator ones AND the Administrator account:
If I right-click a desktop shortcut, the screen blinks black. No sign of the context menu.If I locate an .exe in its folder and right-click that, the screen blinks black. The folder closes. No context menu.
Related, perhaps: In a Standard account, if I try to turn down the UAC settings (so my son can use Steam without me logging him in each time), the Windows accepts my administrator password, then ignores my changes.
I have recorded the blink and played it back frame by frame. No message or anything appears. The screen merely goes black.Windows 10 otherwise seems to work fine.I have done virus scans etc.
All this makes it very hard to set up Standard accounts that are any use.
I used to see icons on my desktop and today, they disappear altogether. There is a side bar you work with and I don't feel comfortable.
The screen is black and if I right click on screen, it does not work and nothing is coming up to chose. When changing screens, I see glimpse of icons on the desktop momentarily.
So, my true desktop screen seems to be covered by this new black screen with left side bar.
I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. I had problems going into and out of sleep mode which seem have been resolved by installing updates for Intel Graphics. Now I can't get anything to come up when I left click on the Start button. All of the other icons in the task bar will only work with a left click of the mouse, nothing happens with a right click. Also, I did not get Cortana when I upgraded to Windows 10 on this device. I also upgraded another lap top and have Cortana on that one. With all of these problems occurring one after the other, can I reinstall Windows 10?
Updated my Win 7 Pro x64 computer last night to Windows 10. Now can't click on the start menu items or really any windows menu. Some other random things won't accept a left click either. Chrome seems to respond just fine but not firefox. I'm puzzled. I have a Razer Naga 2014 but tried a Cheap little logitech mouse with same results. I also logged into my machine Via team viewer from work and left click still doesn't work on things.
I'd be totally fine doing a fresh install but not sure of the procedure yet to have it activate without installing windows 7 first then doing the upgrade again.
I just upgraded to windows 10 and when I right click on the desktop and click on "Personalize" or "Display Settings" I get the following error message:"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel".
I installed wind 10 in aug 2 days ago my right click in my icons on the bottom wont respond it works every where else I went to windows update and it says I last updated 7/15 but I put win 10 in on aug 30th? Im not sure if windows did something as far as I know I didnt and I have added anything.
When I click on my desktop and right click, I get a few options under the title "New" indicated by the red arrow below. How do I get rid of some of those?
I was trying to add to the right click menu and to get to it requires a registry tweek, well I can get into reg edit HKEY_ CLASSES_ROOT but having difficulty getting DirectoryBackgroundshell.
When I right click in certain areas on my computer, I get a Not Responding error. This happens with my mouse and trackpad when I right click, so it's my computer and not mouse. For example:
Applies to: - Desktop folders/icons/files. When my desktop stops responding, it flashes white, refreshes, and it's fine. - Any folder or white space in any of my folders
Doesn't apply to: - Browser (Chrome) - Desktop empty space (right clicking on my desktop, not any icons)
when I right click on the start menu and the conext menu appears like this:
the only links that works are the first four starting from the botom (desktop, shutdown, run & find), when I click on any other option in the menu nothing happens.
It's not a terrible problem because I can access to the same links in other ways but this menu is really usefull.
The first 2 days after upgrade from win 8.1 this menu worked OK but suddenly stop working. In the middle I installed several programas, uninstal others and update some drivers. But I don't know when exactly start this behaiviour.
I can't right click taskbar apps, left click works as it should but not the right click. Also left clicking start button won't open start menu, right click works on this one as it works on other system icons (volume, network, clock and notification) but not the left click. Another weird thing is that always when i boot up, onedrive instantly crashes, i dont know if this is relevant. I tried rebuilding search index and "sfc /scannow" as i tried this powershell command with no luck.
Tried both Edge and Chrome browsers as default. Hyperlinks work properly from progs, as they should, but nothing happens when I try to click on links from Apps.
Seems like the new start menu has some hyperlinks and nothing happens when I click them:
Red boxes do not work.
Same goes for the Twitter app, every time there is a tweet with a browser link, nothing happens.
Tried messing around with the default browsers, but never got it to work.
Hyperlinks seems to work from normal progs though.
Is there any way to set the color background on this? I don't much like the dark with white letters, I'd rather have a white background and black letters.
My send to menu (activated by right-clicking a file) is not working now - seems to have changed with latest Windows update to version 1511. All I now get is bluetooth device. I checked the send to folder and all the old choices are there, but they don't show up with a right click.
I am running 8.1 pro 64 bit. I click the icon at the bottom, it says "this pc is compatible" and I click upgrade. I click continue and it checks for updates. None are found. No updates are hidden. I have read and seem to have all necessary updated already installed. Why would this be happening and how do I correct it to download 10? I feel like I "hid" the update a while back, but when I look at view hidden updates it isn't there, nothing is.
