I recently got a new computer after my old one crashed. i installed my old 750 ti that was in the last computer and updated the drivers. I plugged it into the same 4k tv my last computer was hooked up to. However, when i try to switch to 4k resolution (3840x2160p) I am met with a black screen until it switches back to 1080p.

i5 6400
8gb ram
1tb hdd
win key/L....select account..enter pw....get black screen with cursor. ctrl/alt/delete does nothing and suggestions i've tried do nothing.
View 1 Replies I cannot give a lot of details about the PC because it is not mine and the user does not want to give a lot out (not sure why). However, it has Windows 10 64-bit and is very powerful (i7, 16 GB ram, 2TB hdd). Whenever I go to switch users or log off, the screen goes black. There is no cursor and the keyboard buttons stop working (i.e. light for Num Lock doesn't light up). The only way to get back onto the computer is to force shutdown by holding the power button. There are no problems with the initial boot or login, only when you go to "switch users" or "log off". The computer resources are not being taxed and the heat is in control. I do not receive any BSOD, only a black screen with no response.
I have tried:
- Removing an update from Windows 10 that caused boot loops
- Rolling back video driver
- Installing NVIDIA driver updated 10.7.2015
- Ran sfc /scannow (found errors but couldn't fix it)
- Ran DIMS after and it found nothing to remove
- Ran dskchk and did not have any problems
- Searched over five hours for a solution
- Changed power settings to never sleep for: Display, PC, HDD
- Disabled USB service that was causing a different issue
- No egregious problems in Event Viewer
- I checked registry for proper paths before and after sleep mode/shut down/boot and that was also fine (explorer.exe I believe)
My friend says that, in no way, will he reload Windows 10 because it was just recently loaded and was working originally.
Since upgrading to Windows 10 from 7, I ran into the same issue as [URL] ....
So I tried the catalyst scaling option for my desktop and this seemed to fix the issue for mostly everything, desktop and most games, However, the problem still seems to arise with some games I try to play, such as Xcom Enemy Within or Dawn of War 2. Changing resolution in these games doesn't appear to have any effect, the image is still falling off the screen, I use my desktop on a 32 inch TV as opposed to a monitor via HDMI, and keep it set to 1600x900 as opposed to its native 1920x10180, but even leaving it at 1920 has the same effect.
I have my specs on a dxdiag file, dunno where to upload it here, but I'm using a AMD Radeon R9 200 Series on an Asus I built.
While viewing a thread here, the forum went from perfect visual clarity to a washed out appearance. The most obvious example is on any given topic page where the listed threads I have viewed are a lighter shade of blue and unread ones are bold blue. Now the bold is 2-3 shades lighter and the lighter blue ones are just easily discernible but washed out looking.
View 1 RepliesI was working on my MIL's laptop over the weekend, and she was having problems with games on Windows 10. She's running a Yoga 2 Pro, and launching full screen games requires a resolution change. The game would launch, and be running normally, but attempting to give it focus would always drop you back into the desktop.
After doing some research, it's a remaining bug from the beta. Resolution changes causes the start menu to steal focus, which causes you to drop down into the desktop. Alt tabbing into the game repeats the cycle. The games (in this case) were not crashing, just unable to display.
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my desktop (upgraded from Windows 7, activated and then did a clean install) and ever since I've been encountering an odd issue:
Every time I reboot the PC, the resolution changes from 1600x900 to 1024x768. This happens after both restarting and shutting down. Every time Windows boots, it resets the resolution.
My specs are as follows:
CPU - Intel Xeon X3220 (OCed to 3.2GHZ)
RAM - 8GB DDR2-800
MOBO - Gigabyte EP45-UD3R
GPU - XFX Radeon HD6870 (Using latest drivers)
OS - Windows 10 Pro
how to fix it? Once I'm logged on, I can change the resolution back fine, and games run fine too, so it's definitely detecting my card properly and using the Radeon drivers
I must say, I'm a bit disappointed with Windows 10... Under Win 7 everything worked flawlessly, whereas under 10 I get loads of these small issues that make the experience particularly frustrating. Chief among them is the fact that Windows 10 is slow as anything - a fresh install takes longer to boot than my year old Windows 7 install did, and just generally feels less responsive than 7 did.
We installed windows 10 on our desk top computer from direct download. once everything was completed. The resolution on monitor is stuck on 800x600 and the desktop is compacted in the middle of the screen. The monitor is 19 or 20 inches, but nevertheless the desktop is about an inch and half smaller on each end of monitor. We were able to change through settings icon size, but still left with compacted screen.

View 3 RepliesThe monitor is connected to the computer via HDMI and we can see Windows on the screen but Windows sprawls beyond the physical edges of the screen in every direction. That means we see only the top little bit of the task bar and the Windows button is beyondn the left edge of the screen and the clock is beyond the right edge of the screen. I've tried a few different screen resolutions but the image ALWAYS sprawls so that all four edges are lost. What do I need to do so that this sprawling stops?
View 2 RepliesThis has only started happening recently - every few boots, the screen choice between Windows 10 and XP appears with the wrong resolution. The image is small on the screen. If I select Windows 10, the full boot sequence continues with that resolution. However, if I select 'Advanced options' and then 'Continue to Windows 10', the resolution changes to the correct format.
A week or so back, I went back to a previous set point and that seemed to cure the problem. Then it returned.
I upgraded from windows ultimate to windows 10. my computer boots through everything and finally brings up my old windows 7 desktop screen and then everything goes black, but mouse shows up on black screen. Is this a driver problem with windows 10? However, before the black screen appears the new start button and screen appears as the windows 10
View 1 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
When I boot up my computer (to windows 10). It will do the Asus splash screen then instead of going straight to windows if does this black screen with the kinda terminal thing (with no writing/text) then goes on to windows. Does this affect my computer?

View 1 RepliesThe black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?

View 3 RepliesI don't know what to do. I've tried everything. I am literally about to break down crying. I've been at this for six and a half hours now. I've completely run out of space on my 320GB hard drive, and I've been trying to clone to my new 1TB since I got home from work.
I've currently got windows 10 on a small HDD that I need to transfer to my newer, bigger drive. I do have multiple hard drive slots, as I need the OS on the big one. Don't ask why, it's complicated. Point is, I can't use the little one anymore and I need the OS as well as my files on the big guy.
I've tried 2 different cloning programs, each one taking ages to finish copying. The problem is, everywhere I go says the reason I have blackscreen when I try to boot is because I'm missing the 100MB hidden boot partition. But it's sitting right there.
I've tried booting with only the new HDD installed, tried 100 boot and BIOS settings, different slots, completely formatting the new HDD and starting over from scratch with the same program and a different one.
I've even tried booting from a recovery disk. That won't work either, and gives me the same black screen with a single horizontal bar blinking in the top left corner.
When I boot my pc sometimes I get a black screen. But by pressing ctr alt & delete I can log out, and then login and its then OK. I have reset my pc but its still the same.
View 4 RepliesIf you have an on board Intel graphics controller as well as an add on graphics card, windows thinks you have one more monitor connected than you actually have. so when windows loads its outputting the video signal to a bogus monitor.firstly wait long enough so the mouse cursor to appear when you move the mouse.(blank screen with a white mouse cursor).Then press the space-bar and enter your login password or pin (yes your doing this blind)
You should now be logged into windows.if the desktop dose not appear after 30 seconds then press WindowsKey-P down arrow twice and enter.
So.. I screwed up.. I used a small program called something like Windows 10 Login Background Changer (something along those lines) and when I restarted my computer, it never reached the login screen. I can move the mouse and open Magnifier (was pushing random controls), but I don't know how to get past here.
