Screen Went Blank During Download Now When Switch On Only Power Light Comes On
Sep 17, 2015
when downloading windows 10 on my HP notebook the screen went blank and stayed that way. Now when I switch on the power light comes on but the screen stays blank and the computer does not boot up.
I upgraded my Toshiba "Satellite" laptop two weeks ago. Now when I press the power button to turn it on, the white power light flashes but nothing else happens. The laptop does not switch on. Is this a Windows 10 bug or have I a hardware problem?
Ran win 10 for a couple of days, all seemed fine. this morning I awoke to a black, blank screen tried to restart computer and got an "Entering Power Save Mode" on the screen for a few seconds, that's it ! I now have a Dell XPS anchor...
Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.
Whenever I on my computer after I wake up or come back from work, my windows sometimes do not boot up fully. it will load and then gets stuck on an empty orange screen (might be related to the fact that I have orange set as my colour theme for my windows 10). I will then hold on to the power button on my computer to force a shutdown. Right after that, I will power on again and the computer starts up fine.
This has been occurring for a while - I didn't have this issue when I first installed (upgraded from windows 8) windows 10.
I tried googling my issue, and I have turned off Fast Start-up under power options but it did not solve the problem.
This has gone from bad to worse. It started with an error message when I went to close down, to the effect that the Start Button wasn't working and would reset on restart. I restarted; it didn't reset. I could use programs but the Start button still wouldn't work. I tried to restart in Safe Mode, but the computer wouldn't go into Safe Mode -- I got the screens that let me select reset but the final step that would select Safe Mode with Networking just got skipped. I'm a little sketchy on what I did next (I got kind of ticked and had to step away from the computer for about a week to cool off, and I'm afraid I didn't write out a history while it was still fresh in my mind) but I tried a variety of things to force it to start in Safe Mode and the result is that it doesn't start at all now: the power light comes on, but the screen stays blank and there's no action on the drives. Should I use my laptop to create a USB Recovery Drive to start the desktop computer on?
When I sign out of my user profile on my 2 Acer laptops and then click shut down, the computer goes black indicating that it is shutting down. However, the power light blinks until it shuts down completely. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or what but when hibernation is disabled, it tells you its shutting down and the power light doesn't blink (instead it shuts down normally). This is not a UEFI BIOS, it is a Legacy BIOS therefore it doesn't have the option to enable or to disable fast startup. This occurs on my Acer Aspire 5250 and Acer Aspire 5749 laptops. My Acer desktop doesn't do this, but it has a UEFI BIOS.
Any way of making it so that when I press the Power Button on my Windows 10 desktop that the computer will power down without me having to click with the mouse to turn off various programs or clicking the "restart anyway" button that appears. I managed to do this with windows XP in the past. I think it might have been a registry alteration?
A few of us have Dell laptops (mine is 7537) are having problems updating to Windows 10.
Just after installing drivers, the screen goes black with NO cursor, the HDD light stays on solid, the computer no longer responds (there's a backlight on the laptop screen), personally, I've left mine for over 8 hours while at work, nothing happens.
Powering off and back on restores the installation procedure and it does the same again within a couple of minutes.
Powering off and back on again restores Win 8.1 where it deletes the Win 10 files and re-downloads it all, I've tried this 4 times so far.
These laptops have NVidia AND Intel graphics, all drivers are up to date before installing, there's nothing in the BIOS of my laptop to disable multi-monitor or either of the gfx cards
some people have reported they can press enter, enter their password, press enter again, wait a few minutes, then press Win+P, arrow down twice and press enter to get something to display, the majority of us do not get this though so we assume it's a different issue with ours. Everyone I know who's having this issue has the same model laptop or a Dell Alienware.
For the last 3 weeks anytime I "restart" my hp 32 bit pc it takes 6 minutes and all the while the screen is black with a small blinking light in the upper left corner everything is fine after it finally restarts and if I shut it down and start it back it starts normally and in the morning when I first start it up it starts normally it just happens any time I restart it for any reason.
New Windows 10 Laptop is downloading update for version 1511,10586, and it has taken hours to get to 49%. Storm coming and I really need to turn off machine. Will the part of update that has downloaded be there when I turn laptop back on? We have lots of lightning and I have been hit before, I do have protection, but don't like to rely on it in this case. At the download has been going, it could take another four hours to get the last half of download.
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
Have the above laptop and when trying to upgrade from Windows 10 I get the dreaded black screen problem.I get to 85% after I few reboots and it hangs at that point. No cursor on screen, clt alt del not working nothing, just blank screen no hdd movement. I tried plugging laptop into TV by hdmi still no screen. Power of laptop and previous version of windows reinstalled.
When at login screen if it says login using your email (Microsoft etc) is it possible to switch to local system at that point, so as to not have to login with email address but just the local account. I know it can be changed in the user setting but thats once you are in windows, I'm interested in just switching accounts at that point.
I have 'Start' full screen. When I open programs from here, they open on the desktop and the Start screen disappears. That's how I expect it! I noticed that if I create a web shortcut on 'Start', it behaves differently. When I open it from the Start screen, it opens and I can see it on the taskbar, but I'm still looking at the Start screen; it doesn't disappear.
If I have the Start screen up, and I click on anything in Quick Launch, it's the same. They open, but focus doesn't switch to them, the Start screen stays there. If I have 'Start' not full screen, and I open that web shortcut, I see it open behind the Start menu, but the menu stays there. What I would like is to have everything behave the same. When I open anything from 'Start', I want focus to switch to the item I just opened and 'Start' to disappear. Is there a setting I've overlooked?
After closing down computer the other day, when trying to switch back on Windows start screen comes on with 4 squares and rotating dots, but the screen then just goes black or white with no mouse pointer.
I have tried F8 which goes into recovery mode and I have tried all repair modes, but none of them work.
it must surely be something to do with Windows as I can go into recovery mode.
I upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of days. The system was up and running that day and the next (yesterday 17 September). Today, the screen is blank and the mouse pointer comes up but no login box.
I accidentally hit hibernation button last night. Woke up this morning and the computer will start up but that's it. There's only blank screen. And I can hear the computer on. I also see the power light on from the power button and the plug into the computer.
I instigated the ugrade last night and (on my PC) and left computer to do its thing. Now, the screen is completely blank (if I unplug and replug it says 'no signal). What do I do now?
Whenever I boot up my computer my monitor receives no input from my computer, however the computer will still be on. I can't even turn off my computer through holding down the power button, I have to unplug the power. The first time my computer crashed into this state I was playing a game, the second time I had managed to successfully boot up my computer but it crashed again when I was browsing the Internet.
Today I have been using my PC as usual, I got info of Windows Updates (I'm using Windows 10) I opened up the updates and restarted my PC. As the PC was launching I got no display at all. Blank screen, nothing at all as if the PC was not detected. I tried restarting PC, removing graphics card / ram then replacing them but no use.
when I start up windows 10, type in my password and hit enter, it takes a bit longer to load and but doesnt even load my desktop. I can ctrl+alt+del to get task manager going and open up chrome with that, but it wont load any web pages. I didn't change anything the day before so I dont know whats up. I tried booting into safe mode but it still does the same thing. Luckily I had my old hard drive with 8.1 still installed so I could get on, and everything works fine on it.
