I have a problem when pressing the search button. When I press the search button it launches the browser and goes straight to Google and in the search area reads "{searchTerms}". I have the latest version of WP 10 (insider fast). According to one site I found it could be virus?
View 3 RepliesI have google.com.au set as home page as I mainly start browsing with a search. I first started to have problems last night when opening a new TAB for a new search and selecting Home page rather than using the Bing search on the new TAB. As soon as I start typing the search bar jumps to the top left corner and gives you a few suggestions, but after I finish entering my search word/term and click the search icon or press enter I can see internet traffic by the light on 3g modem but the page remains blank.
This is now starting to happen on my homepage when first opening Edge. I type in my search the search bar jumps to top left corner showing a couple of suggestions, but that's as far as it will go.
It does however work normally sometimes. Last night was the first time I came across this problem and I'm sure I've done searches this way since I started using EDGE without any problems.
I had my wife try the same thing (in EDGE) with the same result, though she uses Firefox as her default browser.
How do I delete Bing search enging from Microsoft Edge and change to Google. I've already added Google, but how can I delete Bing?

I current have the default homepage where all the news and everything are there as soon as I open edge. but I HATE bing as my search engine and would like to change it to Google search engine but keep the same home page is there anyway to do this?
View 1 RepliesWhen I open my email account from my browser I am taken straight into my emails without having to put in my account name or password. I always sign out. I never check the "keep me signed in" box. But this invariably happens. Surely there should be some security measure to prevent this as it seems to leave the system open to hackers.

View 1 RepliesMy windows 10 button, cortana, and google chrome won't work. The image for Microsoft edge and the windows store on the taskbar are black now and also won't open. I tried using the scan in powershell and it said that it couldn't find any problems. Also I believe my Nvidia drivers need updates but they also won't open it says it had to close. I already used malwarebytes to check for malware. I'm not sure what to do its been working for the whole time I have had windows ten which has been a decent amount of time but it just yesterday started this.

View 10 RepliesI'm having a persistent problem with Google Chrome. Although Windows 10 says Chrome is the default browser, Google Chrome itself does not "believe" it, and I keep getting the "Google Chrome is not your default browser" notification when I bring up the browser.
In settings it says that Google Chrome is NOT the default browser and no matter how many times I click on the button to tell Google Chrome to make it the default browser, it just pops up the Windows 10 window that shows me that according to Windows 10, it IS the default browser. I have run a Repair Install Windows 10 With an In-place Upgrade hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not...
I have no Ethernet what so ever... I updated everything I could including the Ethernet from ASUS. I get limited connection.

Currently when we type anything into the taskbar search, it launches Edge + Bing to give the results.
I would like it to use google and my chrome browser cos I find it gives better results.
I'm using a windows 10 TP virtual machine, the "Search the web and Windows" feature, can I get it to use Google and not Bing? I changed it to use Chrome and not IE, but can't figure out if there is a way to use Google search on it.
View 1 RepliesI like the concept / idea of being able to search from the taskbar but I want to change the default search engine used by the search box from bing o google without changing my browser or installing another app or extension. I don't want to use google chrome and its bing2google extension.
There has to be a way to force Win10, Cortana and the search box to use another search engine of your own choice. Changing the default search engine of IE & Edge is easy enough to do.
It would be great if Google could develop an app to change the search engines used by Win10's search box, IE & Edge in one click. It would be a lot quicker and less tiresome than doing it all manually.
I found this video on youtube. It fixed one of my major problems with windows 10, bing! As much as i love having a search right on the taskbar, bing just does not seem to work with me !

Thing is, if I go to Indexing Options, it clearly says "Indexing complete." and there's no HDD activity (and it's had ages to rebuild the index)... and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).
The best workaround I've found is switching off Indexing (which reveals files in Google Drive folder, but now searching the whole computer takes forever)
I accidentally deleted google as my search engine from windows 10 no longer available for selection ..
View 1 RepliesI managed to change the search engine to Google in the new Win10 search located in the menu and also in Edge. However, the little address toolbar, that can be added to the taskbar by putting a checkmark in the address toolbar after right clicking on the taskbar and choosing toolbars has suddenly switched to Bing as the search engine. I would love to have this set at Google as it always was. I find this toolbar so much more convenient than the one that came with the new win10 menu. I have already turned off Cortana over there.

So I upgraded to W10 on my laptop (MSI GT-60), and ran into several problems, most annoying are these two:
1. Search button next to start isn't working, I tried to restart Windows Search in services, but that didn't work, the only solution is to create a new windows account, then it works, but that's just not ideal
2. A minor problem, but still - icons on my desktop cant be moved to the very bottom of my screen - it simply puts them back one "box" above, and that's just annoying, since I am used to having the trash can at the very bottom of my screen.
I've done sfc/scannow several times, tried to clean the PC with CCleaner, but nothing worked, the computer is otherwise running smoothly, but this is just annoying...
So I recently updated to Windows 10 on my custom built PC (here's the components in case you want to know: [URL] ....) Anyways I like it, but I'm having a few issues with it. Some have to do with my CPU, but the main thing is that Windows Explorer is being very annoying. I almost always put my computer to sleep as opposed to shutting it down because I have a slow HDD.
However, after I put my PC to sleep once or twice I can't click on the Windows button or the "Search the web and Windows button", which means I can't open any applications that aren't on my desktop. It's pretty annoying. If I try to restart Windows Explorer in Task Manager, it never fully restarts. I just get a black screen and the task bar, which still doesn't work. I've had to switch the power button on my computer's task to putting the PC to sleep instead of shutting it down because I can't put my computer to sleep the normal way.
I just updated from windows 7 to windows 10. The internet was working fine in 7 and now only google will open in 10. I tried explorer and chrome. Same results. I tried disabling norton virus, no change. My computer says I have internet access.
View 1 RepliesI'm running Windows 10 and have been since it was first released. This morning I was playing a game, and my sound stopped working, so I rebooted my computer to see if that would fix it. It fixed the problem, but I had no icons pinned on my taskbar, no time & date, and the search and start button would not work. After hard-booting the computer for a second time, there was still nothing. When I open a program the icon doesn't show on the taskbar.

View 3 RepliesI have tried everything under the sun to fix this. The search/Cortana button on the taskbar is unresponsive. Whenever I try to adjust setting under Cortana & Search I get this error:

The app didn't start
Apparently it is my turn: Photos app no longer launches (clicking on the icon does nothing; no error report in Event Log). Trying to double-click image files associated with Photos results in "Invalid Value for Registry" message box. No explanation as to for what value is "invalid" and why it is "invalid".
It appears that the damage is user-account-specific, meaning that Photos typically continue to work fine under different (undamaged) user accounts. So, the only known solution appears to be to create a new user account and set it up from scratch.
Considering that setting up a new account requires quite an effort, this is not a real solution but more of a last resort "loser's way out" kind of measure. Hence the question: any additional information/research about this error? What specific "registry value" is responsible for this problem? I see quite a few reports about this error on the Net, but most of them seem to settle with creating a new account.
I got Windows 10 home a few months now. No problems whatsoever with the installation or setup/usage and it'd fast and bug free. My problem happened just last week...
I used to press the WIN key & S to search for files. Or i can press the START button and just start typing. It will search for my files & search the internet (cortana search). Now nothing happens when i search.
When i press WIN+S, and type something, it just sit's there doing nothing, but it seems like Cortana is thinking or about to give out information, but nothing happens at all. Same as on the start menu. I type out something and no information is given, it wont search for any of my files or nothing.
I am at a lost. In the past, it worked perfectly, like Windows 8.1. Press START, & type.
