View 9 RepliesI love my computer search bar I would like to use it, I can go without the other two, but why this is going on?
View 4 RepliesI got this problem on new "open with" menu. A empty entry appears for image file extensions. (see picture below).
View 5 RepliesHow to dis-associate (un-associate, remove) one option from the windows-explorer "open with" menu.
For ex.:
Windows 10 -> Explorer -> file.mp4 -> "Open with" gives me these options:
VLC, GOM, Movies & TV, Photos, Windows Media Player, etc..
I want to remove Photos and Movies & TV from the menu.
Trying to figure this out in Windows 10. I have a file on my system, and windows doesn't yet know what program to open it with. When I right click the file and select "open with", the dialogue is quite different. Now I no longer have the option of selecting a perfectly fine program from my computer and open the file, my only option is to search for a program in Windows Store which turns out to be a dead end. What option is there to associate a program with a file extension in Windows 10, as the on the fly method that always used to work perfectly.
View 5 RepliesI did a clean install of w10 from w7 a couple of months ago and everything has been running fine until about a week ago since when I've not been able open the start menue. Reading through other posts on line with the same problem has not provided a solution so far. I've ran the DISM/Online/Cleanup-Image/Restor Health and that "completed suucessfully" Then ran a fsc/scannow and that "did not find an integrity violations". I've tried to do a system restore but it fails saying a fil;e is preventing it, maybe the anti-virus.
View 7 RepliesUpgraded a few days ago - and everything was flawless.
But yesterday - noticed the Windows Store app won't open anymore. It looks "greyed out" in the start menu - and in the all apps area - shows a bar that won't move that appears like it was supposed to upgrade or something.
Tried a few things saw suggested - like removing the cache folder in the user app data folder and also the powershell command. Looks like the system didn't take a Restore Point.
I've been unable to open the start menu or the cortana/search menu for about 3 days now. Even enabling the regular search bar doesn't work, as I Can't click into it.
View 1 RepliesCan I use switch user option on power option list or on start menu list ?
View 3 RepliesSeems odd. Lot's of tips about how to turn it off, but I have no option to turn it on, via right-click toolbar > Cortana or via right-click toolbar > Properties > Toolbars, see attached.
View 4 RepliesI am enjoying Windows 10 very much, but I don't have the option for the Cortana search bar. When I right click on the taskbar and hover over Cortana, I can only choose between hidden and icon. I tried to change the value in the registry to 2, but that didn't work.
View 1 RepliesWin 10 Enterprise. Worked fine for a couple of days, but now I cannot seem to bring up the start menu and start typing anything. It will not search. I also tried in the search box or spyglass... I just click on it and nothing happens. It is a major inconvenience. I don't want to do a restore and keep my files, because there is a HUGE list of applications I will then need to restore. I also tried to click on Cortana, but clicking the app does nothing, doesn't even bring it up.
I tried re-indexing search items, I tried the search troubleshooter. I have rebooted, I have installed all updates. Someone on another forum said kill the Cortana task... well there isn't one running.
So I just installed Windows 10 a day ago, and all I have to say is wow, Microsoft did great. I'm blown away by it's speed/ease of use! Anyways, when I click on Cortana, the only options that I have are to show or hide the Cortana icon, I don't have a "Show search box" context menu selection. I installed Windows 10 through the insiders program page when I installed.
View 8 RepliesI have 2 machines running windows 10, and it seems like a lot of struggle of late. My latest problem as of this eve on my downstairs machine, is that Windows Search seems to be confined to just the store and web. Meaning, if I click on search and type in firewall, it will lead me to a couple options in the store and the rest of the options are up on the web. Same if I punch in notepad. It won't search locally for some reason.
View 2 RepliesRunning Windows 10 and whenever I tried and right click a file and select "Open with" I don't that that small window to appear and show me what apps to select. The window where the file is on loses focus but nothing happens until I click or press a key.
View 2 RepliesWhen I type in the search box in the task bar, the results are only from the web and the store and not my files, folders or my settings on my pc. This was working fine a few days ago.The example below is when I typed "device manager"...
View 5 RepliesI upgraded my HP EliteBook to Win-10 Pro. For few hours the performance of EDGE was very great. Search Box was getting connected to Internet and Store was performing great.
But now the EDGE is horrible and it is taking ages to open the Homepage. The Search Box now not getting connected to Internet. Store-it is taking ages to display the Apps.
I can't open the Windows 10 Store on my relatively recent upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It did originally work, but the start menu currently looks like this (tooltip when hovering): I've followed the PowerShell advice at URL....but this didn't work with errors like:
Code:
Add-AppxPackage : Cannot find path 'C:ProgramFilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.WindowsStore_2015.1013.14.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
AppxMetadataAppxBundleManifest.xml'because it does not exist.At H:Downloads
einstall-preinstalledApps
einstall-preinstalledApps.ps1:35 char:2+ Add-AppxPackage -register $PackagePath -DisableDevelopmentMode+
[code]....
After upgrading to Windows 10, everything was fine. But after the Store updated itself, I get this message: "Store can't be opened. An update may be available in Store." How can I update store when I even can not open it??!!
View 2 RepliesToday my windows search window will not even open. When you click on it nothing happens. Even trying to open search from the windows button does not work. I don't even see the search in the task manager. But in services windows search is running.
View 3 RepliesFrankly I would like to be able to customise what used to be the Start Menu. I would like to have the run option available as well as the search option to search files/folders etc, as before.
Right clicking on an empty spot in the start menu doesn't give me anything. I've looked at tutorials on the search bar, but all I have available is Cortana, and hiding her doesn't give me any other search option. I don't use Cortana because I prefer google. Edge takes a very long time to load for me.
I'd also like to add Paint to the Start menu.
So, I just updated to Windows 10 today, and I'm having some problems.
1) I click on the Windows/Start button on my desktop... and nothing happens. What's up with this and how can I fix it?
2) I can't open the App Store. It will not open from the button on the little tray on the bottom, it just flashes an outline of a window and then it closes itself.
I did a little more exploring, and I somehow got to a Settings app and tried accessing the store from changing one of the default apps on the Default Apps tab. It threw up an error message at me, saying something about how the process was illegal because a registry key was marked or something.
I cant seem to get my Windows store to open. My install is about a day old, and was a clean install. When I click the store icon I get a brief view of it loading and then it disappears.
I've tried going to my app data and deleting the windows store files.
I've gone into command prompt and tried resetting the store and it doesn't work.
Tried WSReset.exe and the store pop up and disappear again.
After the last major update to windows 10, Microsoft solitaire collection and windows 10 store will not open. When I click on either one I get a flash screen and then it disappears (both).
View 6 Replieswhen i open any video it simply says the app cant start and the many other app are also not working like store music photo viewer.
View 7 RepliesWindows store won't open and thus can't get to any games. Sound is all muffled. Can't find toolbars for Microsoft Edge. Lots of issues in Windows 10. Wanted to rollback and got the notice that files needed to rollback were deleted. Great job Microsoft.
