Search The Web And Windows Feature - Can Use Google And Not Bing
May 16, 2015
I'm using a windows 10 TP virtual machine, the "Search the web and Windows" feature, can I get it to use Google and not Bing? I changed it to use Chrome and not IE, but can't figure out if there is a way to use Google search on it.
I like the concept / idea of being able to search from the taskbar but I want to change the default search engine used by the search box from bing o google without changing my browser or installing another app or extension. I don't want to use google chrome and its bing2google extension.
There has to be a way to force Win10, Cortana and the search box to use another search engine of your own choice. Changing the default search engine of IE & Edge is easy enough to do.
It would be great if Google could develop an app to change the search engines used by Win10's search box, IE & Edge in one click. It would be a lot quicker and less tiresome than doing it all manually.
In windows 10 it says I can chat with Cortana and ask it questions and get a personalized response, but this isn't the case for me. It says I can speak aloud or type, but since I've no mic, I choose to type.
When I ask it something like "How's the weather" or "How tall is Jeff Goldblum?" I get a bing search page that pops up instead of a Cortana response. All of the interests are enabled and such and I've filled out the about me with my name.
As soon as I start typing ANYTHING, it shows results for "The Web" and "My Stuff" but doesn't even try to ask Cortana the question.
Every time I click a link to open it in a new tab with both buttons on my laptop the search menu opens up which get pretty annoying. how to disable it?
I just got new computer with WIN10. Before that I use win7. I want to set Internet Explore and Google search as my default to use on the internet. Can I do that and how to set it up.
I found this video on youtube. It fixed one of my major problems with windows 10, bing! As much as i love having a search right on the taskbar, bing just does not seem to work with me !
I have google.com.au set as home page as I mainly start browsing with a search. I first started to have problems last night when opening a new TAB for a new search and selecting Home page rather than using the Bing search on the new TAB. As soon as I start typing the search bar jumps to the top left corner and gives you a few suggestions, but after I finish entering my search word/term and click the search icon or press enter I can see internet traffic by the light on 3g modem but the page remains blank.
This is now starting to happen on my homepage when first opening Edge. I type in my search the search bar jumps to top left corner showing a couple of suggestions, but that's as far as it will go.
It does however work normally sometimes. Last night was the first time I came across this problem and I'm sure I've done searches this way since I started using EDGE without any problems.
I had my wife try the same thing (in EDGE) with the same result, though she uses Firefox as her default browser.
Problem:I press Start / I type the filename of any files I know exist in my Google Drive folder (c:/users/Luke/Google Drive) nothing appears. It says "Windows is still indexing some files. This might not be everything just yet."
Thing is, if I go to Indexing Options, it clearly says "Indexing complete." and there's no HDD activity (and it's had ages to rebuild the index)... and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).
The best workaround I've found is switching off Indexing (which reveals files in Google Drive folder, but now searching the whole computer takes forever)
I have a problem when pressing the search button. When I press the search button it launches the browser and goes straight to Google and in the search area reads "{searchTerms}". I have the latest version of WP 10 (insider fast). According to one site I found it could be virus?
My Maps app that came with Windows 10 no longer works in Aerial view. It's just blackness with my location dot in the middle. The blackness remains, even when I pan and zoom, but the road/normal layer works fine. I have the most current & up to date OS, Win 10 Home, 10586.36 & new Dell laptop.
I managed to change the search engine to Google in the new Win10 search located in the menu and also in Edge. However, the little address toolbar, that can be added to the taskbar by putting a checkmark in the address toolbar after right clicking on the taskbar and choosing toolbars has suddenly switched to Bing as the search engine. I would love to have this set at Google as it always was. I find this toolbar so much more convenient than the one that came with the new win10 menu. I have already turned off Cortana over there.

...oh and I rebuilt the index (~500,000 files).

I was just wondering if it is possible to keep website as the home page but change the search engine to google? I current have the default homepage where all the news and everything are there as soon as I open edge. but I HATE bing as my search engine and would like to change it to Google search engine but keep the same home page is there anyway to do this?
When I open up the start menu it shows "We are getting search ready" forever. Worked until when I started my computer up today. I have attached a screenshot of this.
I am trying to uninstall google chrome on my hp laptop which is upgraded last week to windows 10.but the problem is i did try to uninstall. Its show a msg saying plz close all goocle chrome open windows from windows 8 then try again.
I upgraded to Windows 10 the second day it was available and have had problems with not being able to use any Microsoft account features. When trying to sign in on the Xbox app I get the error 0x3fb and get a button that says try again. When I try to click "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead" it just sits there and does nothing no matter how long I wait or how many times I click it. The same issue occurs when I try to make a new local account or add a Microsoft account to the Cortana app. not being able to use the features of Windows 10 make the upgrade pointless.
I just noticed a lot of music in my collection was not downloading, when trying to manually download any "steaming" albums in my collection I get an error saying "Couldn't download to your library. Your library doesn't contain any folders that are not associated with a cloud storage service"
I don't recall having this issue before, but I'm pretty sure its because my profile's Music folder is stored in OneDrive. Does this mean we must have two music folders now? One for music stored in OneDrive, and another local-only folder for music downloaded from our collection?
